The costs I've often heard quoted for even the most basic treatment by several American friends of mine is absolutely jawdropping. The very best private health care here costs only a fraction of what it seems to cost in the US.

That sounds fair and unbiased. Thanks.

And I do know a couple of families here (USA) that have gone bankrupt from medical bills. Very sad.

People that have been recently laid off from their jobs who have medical needs and/or children with medical needs, should have a safety net. But unfortunately some here in the states don't want to contribute their own money to help out. Their reasons may not be as selfish as I make it sound. In my view, a little more money in my pocket isn't worth living with the knowledge others are needlessly suffering.

being poor is a pre-exisiting condition, that can deny people medical treatment... cancer can be a pre-exisitng condition to deny medical treatment...

I have to comment, the picture of Jesus in JC's post is far more accurate than the depictions we commonly see here in the US.

I am always amazed how the usual depiction shows a white Jesus. Same for the depictions of God. Almost always white, sort of like Colonel Sanders in a way . . .

I wonder how many would revisit their faith, if God and Jesus were always shown with a mid east tint.
