We'll just always disagree. I don't think I've ever seen a colder pol than Obalama. Remember that "You're likable enough" comment to Hilary? This is a moron who gives the Queen an iPod of HIS own speeches. I'm not gonna run down the litany of his stupidities but the Austrian language still hasn't got off the ground.

I listened to the John Mayall bootleg LP "Dark Side Of Midnight" today.

The album starts off with Mayall's band introductions, where he says "don't know what Austrian for bass is but Steve Thompson on bass".

Got a good laugh out of that.
The whole Austrian thing was nothing to me. It's all German to my ear.

The "your likable enough" comment was bad. Seemed out of character for him. But it did get ugly during the primary.
And WTF do you get for a Queen? Was it Tacky? Yep.

Yep, it's just great when the left hand is in sync with the right hand.....

Drudge has two headlines up now....

4:15 AM: OBAMA SAYS FUTURE DOES NOT BELONG TO THOSE WHO GATHER ARMIES OR PLANT MISSILES...
7:45 AM: Suspected US missiles hit militants...

And, what day would be complete without Joe Biden being a team playa....

Obama: 'Absolutely' no green light for Israel to attack Iran...
Biden: Israel has right to deal with nuclear Iran...

We need a President who can look into Russia's soul.

Also, the Cold War was the greatest period in this country's history. If I had my way it would still be going on today.

Living with the constant and very palpable fear that the US or USSR could launch a nuclear war that could destroy the planet?
The Cuban Missile crisis?
Civil Defense "duck and cover" drills?
Bomb Shelters?
The Korean and Viet Nam Wars which were designed to contain communism?

That was the greatest period in this country's history to you?

Wow.

It wouldn't be the whole planet. That's mostly hysterics generated by the disarmament crowd. The major distress in the southern hemisphere would be to countries economically dependent on countries that are attacked.

The southern hemisphere wasn't even mapped into the SIOP until the 1990s.

The Cuban Missile crisis?

And it was the other guy who blinked. One of the proudest moments in American history.

Quote:
Civil Defense "duck and cover" drills?
Bomb Shelters?

Mostly exercises in futility. Not much to be proud of there I will admit.

Absolutely. The only thing that would have been greater would have been the military defeat of the USSR.

Wow.

A huge part of our belief system in based on the Cold War and our experiences surviving it and winning it. What would we be without it? Probably liberals.

Hey - I was baptized Catholic, if I were practicing I could totally get into torturing infidels. In a less politically correct era, killing non-believers was what being a Christian was all about.

And with the rising cost of energy, there may be new Dark Ages upon us in our lifetime.

I am never stunned at the pure unadulterated Alinsky-Marxist ideology exhibited by Obama, but his speech about the end of the Cold War is a new low for the worst president in American history! This man couldn't even bring himself to acknowledge the USA's role in the end of the Cold War. Instead he mentioned "the countries, and people of Eastern Europe" as the primary factors in bringing it to an end. He made mention of several leaders in Eastern Europe, and of course, he mentioned Lech Walesa (whom he called Lech Wallensa!) and then proceeded to acknowledge the leaders of the USSR-Gorby and the lot. However, he never once mentioned Ronald Wilson Reagan! He never mentioned Margaret Thatcher! He never mentioned Pope John Paul II! It's as if he can't bring himself to acknowledge the fact that the West won the Cold War, and did so through pressure brought ot bear by Republican and Democrat presidents, and of Reagan in particular. I know the left loves to view the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Iron Curtain with revisionist history, but this idiot is just too much!

By way of absolute proof of Obama's idiocy, let's hear what the aforementioned Lech Walesa had to say about Reagan's role in things.

"When talking about Ronald Reagan, I have to be personal. We in Poland took him so personally. Why? Because we owe him our liberty. This can't be said often enough by people who lived under oppression for half a century, until communism fell in 1989.

Poles fought for their freedom for so many years that they hold in special esteem those who backed them in their struggle. Support was the test of friendship. President Reagan was such a friend. His policy of aiding democratic movements in Central and Eastern Europe in the dark days of the Cold War meant a lot to us. We knew he believed in a few simple principles such as human rights, democracy and civil society. He was someone who was convinced that the citizen is not for the state, but vice-versa, and that freedom is an innate right.

As I say repeatedly, we owe so much to all those who supported us. Perhaps in the early years, we didn't express enough gratitude. We were so busy introducing all the necessary economic and political reforms in our reborn country. Yet President Ronald Reagan must have realized what remarkable changes he brought to Poland, and indeed the rest of the world. And I hope he felt gratified. He should have."

That is from Lech Walesa from an op-ed he wrote for the Wall Street Journal on word of Reagan's death in 2004.

There are many statues of Ronald Wilson Reagan in Eastern Europe, including one in Warsaw, Poland. To date there are none of Carter, Clinton, or Omama, and there never will be.

Trust me Pdog given the choice between Clinton and Obama as president I'd side with Clinton 1000 times out of 1000. Hell, make it a million out of a million!

As for "the union guy". We're talking about Lech Walesa here my man. Did you read what he said about Reagan's belief in the state working for the people and not the other way around?

Now take that exact quote and apply it to Obama. Do you think that Obama believes that? Not just no, but HELL NO!

Obama wants an ever expanding role of government in, and over, the individual's life. He wants the state to lord over the masses. Because that is exactly how Marxists view a citizenry, as "the masses" not as a collection of individuals with unalienable rights granted us by "the natural God". He's a damned menace and he way too convinced of his own greatness. He is far from great. He is an ideologue and he was spoon-fed a certain disdain for his own country throughout his entire life. From his socialist mother, and his Marxist father, right through to his professors at Harvard. Remember when he said, "I intentionally sought out the Marxist professors..." They confirmed his own world view! If you read his books you would see that. It's all right there. In his own words, and it's scary as hell.

How many czars has he appointed so far? And these czars are accountable to exactly who? They aren't answerable to congress, or the will of the people through the ballot box. Today there was talk of an "insurance czar"! Gee, I wonder why that would be?

I not only seriously believe that that is what he wants. I know damned good and well that's what he wants! He is without question trying to fundamentally change the role of the federal government, and it's reach into, and it's control over the day to day lives of the people of this country. You act surprised that I would be believe him capable of such a thing. For my part I am shocked that you can't see that that is exactly what he is doing.

I dare you read "Liberty and Tyranny" by Mark Levin. I dare you to! I know you won't. You refuse to see what is becoming clearer and clearer to so many. Namely, that Barack Obama is the leader of a soft tyranny, and that he would love nothing more than a European Socialist cum Marxist state for us in tthe USA.

Listening to Rush?!?! Don't you condescend me! I can see what is happening with my own two fucking eyes! I actually take the time to read all sides of the position. You are clearly in complete denial about what this man is truly all about. I could cite fact after fact. I could arm you ample evidence, but to what end? Barry's close associations with the likes of Ayers, Rezko, Wright, etc. mean zero to you once he opens his mouth and starts "ahhing" and "umming" his way through some ridiculously lame non-excuse excuse. This is why I call you, and those like you, Obamadrones. Evidence means nothing to you! You look at it all as just some right wing lies, and Rush Limbaugh talking points. You never dare to consider that maybe, just maybe, the man who sought out "Marxist professors", and is the son of a Marxist Kenyan Official, is himself a Marxist! Well he is for fucks sake! Look at his entire life story funman! He has choosen to associate with, and pattern his life around a far left/ Marixsit ideology, radical far left organizations, and people who have literally attacked their own nation, and you just can't be bothered with any of these facts.

I noticed the mention of Vietnam and Korea after I made my post. McArthur had a plan to win that war but Truman, a failed president who is looked upon somewhat favorably now opted to keep the war going on indefinitely, only slightly cooled off with a 53 year statemate. These are the kind of pansy asses this country has had to deal with the last half century.

Drone review of Liberty and Tyranny

Book: Liberty and Tyranny By Mark Levin

By: Chris Roberts

In Liberty and Tyranny, a series of essays that are drier than dust and more alarmist than a Noam Chomsky speech, Mark Levin, apparently talk radio's newest thing, lays out a "conservative manifesto." The enemies of which are chiefly; liberals, progressives and "statists," his slur for those who believe that the government should solve the problems of its citizens. His dismay over the power and reach of the US federal government is certainly one shared by millions of Americans and often times his insights serve as an important push back against the decade of government encroachment that is still in motion.

Sadly he all too often relies on partisan politics. Rahm Emanuel is spanked for his "never let a crisis go to waste" comment, but there is not even a whisper of Bush's power grab after 9-11 (Patriot Act, preemptive war, domestic spying, etc, etc, etc). If conservatives are going to recover from the political exile they now find themselves in, they are going to need to discard that old Bush strategy of never admitting a mistake and this book is not exactly a promising start. Be that as it may, Liberty and Tyranny is filled with good ideas that truly could serve a nation, especially the US with its lust for freedom.

However, if these ideas were to ever reach a mainstream audience, Levin would have to do away with some of his crazier hang-ups, such as his constant ranting against the nameless, faceless "statists" and his never-ending feud with Franklin Roosevelt. One look at the best sellers list does indicate that he has struck a chord and it is possible to see why. Besides calling for fewer taxes it also serves as an idealistic dream in which the author and the reader can share in a utopian fantasy, where the free market and faith solve all of Man's problems.

The book would have benefited greatly had Levin actually engaged popular arguments from the left. What about The Wrecking Crew, in which Thomas Frank persuasively argues that the anti-government stance is used by many merely as a covert means for the US government to inflate their bank account? Or The Shock Doctrine, in which Naomi Klein outlines how gigantic corporations have exploited free market economics to exploit the helpless populations of smaller countries?

Unfortunately he does not touch on any of those points. Instead he uses a measured tone to tout the Republican Party line but does a poor job of masking the fact that this is really a paranoid screed. Often times his chapters start off thoughtful and calm, only to soon devolve into complete idiocy. For example, the idea that illegal immigration is bad because it drives down the wages of the average American worker is probably an idea that resonates with a large percentage of the right. However, Levin can't help himself and soon he is spinning in circles trying to prove that Mexico is actively trying to take over a section of Southwest America and that most Mexicans who do jump the border eventually find themselves in murderous gangs.

Who exactly does that speak to? He also, in a throwaway line, blames Jimmy Carter for the spread of radical Islam and in the epilogue pleads with his readers to brainwash their kids with his ideas. That's all fine and good and he is entitled to say whatever he wants, but his total faith in the idea that all government is bad unless it is being used to chase Mexicans out of his backyard is one that is very suspicious.

I think you need to check with your slightly smarter friend Mr. Nankerphelge about what's a strawman and what's not. That's his self-proclaimed area of expertise.  You should stick with shrill, misspelled, profanity-laden screeds denouncing those of us who don't hate the President. That's more your forte.

As Mr. Nankerphelge said so succinctly, "when you make an argument that no one has made, only to knock it down, it IS a strawman."

I fail to see where I've done that in my post. It was following right along with what had gone before. I mentioned czars and quoted one of President Obama's books.  I pointed with terror at sections of it which seem to indicate that he is not like "us".

And I didn't knock anything down, although I did almost spill my chablis when you said "Listening to Rush?!?! Don't you condescend me! I can see what is happening with my own two fucking eyes!"

That was great!

Now, I know how hard this strawman thing can be to keep straight. So, as a study aid, here's a textbook example of one:

"Yeah whatever drone. Here's what I have surmised about you. You claim that you don't hate Christians, but you slam their beliefs as idiotic. Of course you completely ignore the fact that Christians, and more importantly conservative Christians, contribute to charity more than any other group on the face of the earth. Liberals? Not so much! Liberals have no problem whatsoever forcing the tax payer up the cash, but they very seldom willingly give it up to charities of their own accord."

Please refer back to this periodically to avoid embarrassment.  Because I know if Mr. Nankerphelge was here, he'd have no choice but to berate you -- not only for accusing everyone else of things you do yourself, but also for bringing up that lame-ass song from the 90s.
