this is where you and i disagree.

it seems bad now because we are a few weeks away from the election. however, 2004 was much worse....we were in the middle of a stupid, useless war started by an idiot who clearly hadn't read so much as a book about the mideast since he was forced to put down the beer and pick up one in college...at least with this election, the winner will be someone we will at least be able to live with (except riffy). at least we won't be electing a fucktard cockmonkey this time.

that being said, times are worse now....(thanks to said fucktard cockmonkey, previously noted.)

Bucky, what am I to make of the fact that I go out of my way to stand up for Riff when someone calls him a Nazi and then in his very next post, his ¡¡¡VERY NEXT POST!!! he quotes me and posts a picture of a "comedy" Nazi?

There is plenty of blame on BOTH sides of the aisle for the mess we are in now, Bucky.
We would be fools to blame everything on Bush. It's the easy thing to do and I did it for years. However it is wrong. I'm not basing this on anything other than all of prep I've done for this election. I've read and listened to both Liberal and Conservative outlets and know that the truth is somewhere in between, as always.

It's gonna get a lot worse before or IF it ever gets better, imhfo, of course.

Scary scary times.

Latest word is President Obama will be appointing Oprah Winfrey as Secretary of the Interiors. Her first order of business will be to implement the New Drapes and Curtains Act. Welfare recipients nationwide will be receiving home improvements funds paid for by redistributing the wealth of Honkey Moms and Bitter Gun Clingers. Happy Days and pass the Gov'ment Cheese!

The dangers of liberal bias
By Joan Chevalier
October 23, 2008

OBAMA sports a halo on a Newsweek cover; the magazine's photo of Palin unveils the witch behind the beauty. Of the many examples of media bias to which the right points, however, it was the Public Broadcasting System poll that swept this liberal into its vortex. The poll asked: "Is Sarah Palin [not Governor Palin] qualified to be Vice President?"

Ranch women friends sent a call to action claiming that, as "80 percent" of the PBS audience is liberal, nonviewers on the right should weigh in, ensure the poll is representative.

Fair enough, I thought.

Then came the e-mail from the left: "The last thing we need is PBS saying their viewers think Sarah Palin is qualified!"

So, we should keep our polling to ourselves?

My otherwise thoughtful friend on the left prefaced the e-mail appeal with this: "Lord, it just never ends with these people."

According to a study commissioned by the Kellogg Foundation, the Republican base depends "greatly on their strength in rural communities." But due to a vacuum of leadership on issues central to its rural base, the Republican Party was ripe for disaffection among "these people" - farmers, ranchers, miners, foresters.

During the primaries, those same ranch women were open to Obama. They found him "likable." It was inevitable that he would sweep primaries in the west, where the Clinton legacy was Secretary of the Interior Bruce Babbit's "war" on local communities and economies.

Echoing Obama, another liberal acquaintance asked me: "Well, rural people don't seem to know what is in their own self-interest, do they?"

It never occurred to this NYC musician, living in an adjacent suburb to the Big Apple, that she might not be qualified to know what is in their best interest. With no direct experience of tacking up a crazed horse in below-freezing temperatures, never having sat in a saddle for 12 hours, not knowing what scours are, with no pig bucket under her sink, not having to drive 30 miles down the road to her own mailbox - of course, she knows what is best for them. She recycles, eats organic produce, and there's a bird feeder in her backyard: all signs that she is right with the world.

The ferocity, bordering on fury, with which the choice of Governor Palin was received by the left sealed the deal. We made our views abundantly clear: The heartland is a red monolith of empty space and empty heads; the great rural reach of the country is mired in "ignorance," and their emissary is Sarah Palin.

There are legitimate questions about Palin's experience level, just as there are legitimate questions about Obama's experience level. But according to The Huffington Post, Obama's lack of experience is immune from criticism because he attended Ivy League schools, "was a serious and successful student," is a well-traveled, published author, and has a diverse background. Heck, he's me!

Yet, in every one of my encounters with America's rural communities, the diversity of my privileged experience was eclipsed by the depth of theirs. I had rhetoric; they had well-measured speech, punctuated by forbearing silences. I had easy answers; they knew there was no such thing.

It is not that the Republican base is anti-intellectual, as David Broder claims; they are anti-elitist. An Ivy League education is hardly a universal signal of competence in anything other than the liberal cultural canon.

Despite the lofty call to unity from Obama, behind which most of us on the left supposedly rallied, this election looks like all of our previously divisive ones. Rural Americans are bracing once again for war on their communities at the hands of liberal interest groups sharing cultural preferences remote from the realities of their lives. The most liberal candidate in a generation has indeed raised up fear of his potential presidency, and I have heard nothing from those most afraid about his race.

It's that darned halo that seems to have the man himself and his supporters so enthralled.

No need to smack down Card - he's an oddball whose occasional vilification by the forces of PC'itude are a pretty good argument for the kind of oppositional shut down that Riffhard (and myself) worry (he more than me) may become more prevalent under an Obama administration, but he's also a smart (like many science fiction writers, maybe TOO smart) cat.

He does tend to be of the, uh, Robert Heinlein school of science fictional thought, however. . .except maybe for the fact that he hates the military.

your last sentence says alot, this guy is the one giving opinion, and he has alot of opinions in direct contradiction to Republicans and Democrats, and some real over the top shit... IMO, using him a source, you set yourself up for alot of criticism... He makes good points, but like you said, maybe he is too smart and way over-thinking stuff... Common sense goes a long way...

Look Pdog I don't know the guy. I don't even know his real politics. I do know that what he wrote in that particular op-ed piece is spot on. If you're trying to tell me that the media has given due diligence to the reality of the sub-prime mess and the Democrats' role in it than you are out of your mind. This may be the only thing the guy writes that I would ever agree with, but that article is one that any honest person would have a hard time honestly refuting. It is telling that you go after the messenger as opposed to trying to debate the substance of the message.

Bottom line-Democrats hid the sub-prime fiasco within Fannie Mae because they were lining their pockets, and the CEO and all the board members were Dems. Obama got $126,000.00 in less than three years from the very people that created the housing crisis. You may not like those FACTS. You may not even want to acknowledge them (most Obama supporters ignore any and all negative truths about their guy after all), but what this guy says is true. Democrats have managed to bury the truth about Fannie Mae, and a willing press has buried it too because the truth would destroy their candidate. The fact that it doesn't bother you that the press is trying to determine the outcome of this election by selectively covering the news is very odd to me. This kind of obfuscation by the major media players should scare the hell out of everyone. Though it never seems to bother Obama supporters. I wonder why?

Answer this question honestly. Had all the major players at Fannie Mae been Republicans, and had John McCain received $126,000.00 from Fannie would a Democrat House and Senate have started a massive investigation into the corruption by now? Today, there has yet to be a single call for a congressional investigation into Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. No, they are investigating Wall Street instead. I wonder why?

The New Obamadrone mantra-"I know nothing, I see nothing!" ...

I stand up for you when someone throws the nazi card at you and then you throw it back my way?!?!? JESUS CHRIST! Shocked

What I want to know is why isn't McCain hollering this from the rooftops?   Couldn't have anything to do with the fact that his own Chief Executive Officer has his own Fanny Mae ties?  Why ain't the entire Republican congress campaigning on the "It's the DEM's fault" ticket?   Couldn't be because they all got their things to hide, could it?  Dude, a mess this big, everybody has got their hands dirty.

You ask Pdog to answer a question about a speculative reality honestly?  Don't you know that only you or a science fiction author can accurately predict "what would have happened/be happening"??  Is congress even in session to call for an investigation?  I suppose getting an investigation underway as to whose fault it was was more important than putting measures to solve the issue before they adjourned?

all he said was I am out of my mind... not a huge put down, but just one of many lumped on me... He might need to be reminded I'm done with him, like we broke up, and I won't take his calls... Although i am using your post to repeat that message.

He grew up in Atlantic City, New Jersey. You ever get jumped by 5 black dudes, who were yelling "mother fucking, white motherfucker" while beating you down? And this all happening in your school, in front of teachers and faculty... and no one does shit about it? And then the same thing happens to a Puerto Rican kid, then a black kid ect... just different slurs. And you go home and your parent talk about hating niggers, and this has been going on since they were kids, and is still going on... And most of the people in AC, NJ are Democrats! It is fucking nuts! Why do you think I left? Imagine being the kid, no one liked who dressed funny in the middle of all that!!!

Oh come off of it Nasty! Please! I mean surely you are can't be serious? I use a fictional television character whose classic tag line was, "I see nothing. I hear nothing", to illustrate the the very valid point that the Obamadrones use the same attitude when they hear any criticism of Barry. Please tell me that you are familiar with Hogan's Heroes. It is just a co-wink-a-dink that Schultz has the same bury-the-head-in-the-sand-attitude that the Obamadrones do when confronted by information that they don't want to hear or acknowledge. It has zero to do with playing the "Nazi card". You, of course, knew that, right?

Today, there has yet to be a single call for a congressional investigation into Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. No, they are investigating Wall Street instead. I wonder why?

The New Obamadrone mantra-"I know nothing, I see nothing!" ...

Riffy

Riffy

I thought the real co-inky-dink was howe much Schultzy looks like "Joe."

Obama is not black enough to get my vote.  If I'm going to cross racial lines, I want someone like Spike Lee or Jimi Hendrix or Marty Lew King or Michael Jordan.  Not some Uncle Tom talking, white ass kissing, Tiger Woods geek-a-like law boy from Poonaho High, for Christ's sakes.

Exactly like that guy.  You know damn well that guy wouldn't go pardoning terrorists like George Walker Bush III does.  When he's not engaging in his Neo-Socialism, George Walker Bush III loves to pardon terrorists who blow up American planes.  Furthermore, Bush Geeks applaud this behavior in him.  Its the most absurd, inconsistent, Fat faced stuff I've ever seen in American politics.  The Big Fat.
