The notion that all these insurance companies
who say they’re giving consumers the best possible deal,
if they can’t compete against a public plan as one option,
with consumers making the decision what’s the best deal,
that defies logic,
which is why I think you’ve seen in the polling data overwhelming support for a public plan.

I'll take your opinion of a disaster over anybody else who is capable running . . .

So much for the UN resolution against North Korea.

That resolution "with teeth" hasn't done a thing.

Instead, we are following a NoKo ship suspected of carrying something (missiles, nukes, etc) around the Pacific with no apparent sign that we intend to intercept it and ask permission to search it.

And North Korea says any attempts to stop it will be considered an act of war.

What a joke.

which is why I think you’ve seen in the polling data overwhelming support for a public plan.

Any support for his "public plan" is probably due to the fact that no one understands the details - including Obama who cannot even explain the part about how he will save billions on drugs.

250 million in this country have some form of health insurance.
Obama wants to expand that to 300 million.

But first he needs to explain how this new "public plan" will work more effectively when Medicare and Medicaid are the two biggest drivers of the deficit.  And, he needs to explain how this public plan will not simply be a government subsidized plan (meaning the taxpayers are footing some of the cost so that the actual amount you pay is not indicative of the actual cost of the service).  As more people choose to go to the public plan, the private insurers will have less and less people in their pool of insured, and they will have to raise their rates or go out of business.  Once the "public plan" has enough people in it, the private insurance system will cease to exist, and then the public plan can monopolize the system.  Nationalized health care by doing essentially what drug dealers do -- give away their product until the competition is gone.

Stay Tuned for More of 'The Obama Show'

By Dana Milbank
Wednesday, June 24, 2009

In his first daytime news conference yesterday, President Obama preempted "All My Children," "Days of Our Lives" and "The Young and the Restless." But the soap viewers shouldn't have been disappointed: The president had arranged some prepackaged entertainment for them.

After the obligatory first question from the Associated Press, Obama treated the overflowing White House briefing room to a surprise. "I know Nico Pitney is here from the Huffington Post," he announced.

Obama knew this because White House aides had called Pitney the day before to invite him, and they had escorted him into the room. They told him the president was likely to call on him, with the understanding that he would ask a question about Iran that had been submitted online by an Iranian. "I know that there may actually be questions from people in Iran who are communicating through the Internet," Obama went on. "Do you have a question?"

Pitney recognized his prompt. "That's right," he said, standing in the aisle and wearing a temporary White House press pass. "I wanted to use this opportunity to ask you a question directly from an Iranian."

Pitney asked his arranged question. Reporters looked at one another in amazement at the stagecraft they were witnessing. White House Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel grinned at the surprised TV correspondents in the first row.

The use of planted questioners is a no-no at presidential news conferences, because it sends a message to the world -- Iran included -- that the American press isn't as free as advertised. But yesterday wasn't so much a news conference as it was a taping of a new daytime drama, "The Obama Show." Missed yesterday's show? Don't worry: On Wednesday, ABC News will be broadcasting "Good Morning America" from the South Lawn (guest stars: the president and first lady), "World News Tonight" from the Blue Room, and a prime-time feature with Obama from the East Room.
-----------------------------------

Obama is playing the country and the media like a fiddle.
Is state-run media really far behind?
The newspapers and broadcast TV stations are all but dead because they have absolutely zero credibility anymore and ABC's Obama-mercial may well be the death knell for them.
Watch Obama "bail" out the MSM and essentially nationalize it.

HA! -- so much for that "overwhelming" support...

New York Times Poll Showing 72% Support for Obama's Health Care Plan Was Stacked With Obama Supporters
Wednesday, June 24, 2009
By Christopher Neefus

A New York Times/CBS News poll released Saturday that showed broad bipartisan support for President Obama’s health care reform, over-sampled Obama voters compared to McCain voters, critics say.

The poll, administered June 12-16, found that 72 percent of respondents favored the creation of a government health-insurance plan that would compete with private insurers.

It also said 50 percent of respondents thought the government would do a better job providing medical coverage than private insurers, up from 30 percent in 2007; and that 59 percent thought the government would be better at holding down costs, up from 47 percent two years ago.

But critics including pollster Kellyanne Conway say the results are inaccurate because they are heavily skewed toward those who voted for Obama in the 2008 presidential election.

In addition, other indicators point toward a repeat of the defeat Hillary Clinton's proposed government-run faced in the early ‘90’s.

What's a joke, Nanky?  The UN?  North Korea?

I find the specter of nuclear war -- even if remote -- to be most alarming and an issue to be considered beyond partisanship and UN-bashing.   Frankly, I oppose it.  Very much indeed!

The UN and its resolutions are nothing more than a multilateral wrist slap and have absolutely no mechanism of enforcement.

Those that believe that North Korea will play nice based on UN resolutions are deluded.

You want to stick your head in the sand and pretend that the North Korea issue will go away?
How did it work out for Iran?
or Iraq?

Fact is, the UN is powerless.

I am not advocating nuclear war.
I am just pointing out that the UN will not deter it.
The threat of annihilation by the US might.

What Obama should do is come right out and say that unless NoKo heads back to the bargaining table, the US will consider any future missile launches or nuke tests to be an act of agression and that we will launch airstrikes to take out their capabilities.  If North Korea wants to play hardball, they do so at their own peril!

I agree completely Nanky. However, with this inept fuckstick in office there is no way that any deterrent is going to slow down NK or Iran from moving forward on their nuke plans. Barry honestly thinks that he has some kind of power through his own inflated ego! He thinks that he can talk to them and all will be well! God how I wish a Republican with balls would just stand up say it out loud,"Our president is an absolute fucking idiot!" Bush looks like Hawking or Einstein next to this moron.

How weak is this fucking tool in the WH? Well, on the 4th of July, of all days, NK has announced that they will be firing a missile towards Hawaii, and on that same day Barack "I suck with Teeth" Obama will be hosting the Iranians for a 4th of July Party in DC!!!!!

Defend this fucking clown you drones! Defend him! Doing so only proves just unbelievably stupid you are!

This man is destroying the country and some here are too god damned stupid to even realize it. Wait until he completely devastates the private health insurance business. You people that support this cocksucker are going to get exactly what you deserve!

Cmon now, we just had 8 years of your alternative policies, with no success. The UN seems useless, but going it alone is futile.

Don't you think that we have taught other countries that they better acquire nukes, or we will always have the option of invading?

NK is screaming for attention. Their dictator is a menace, true. He doesn't care about his citizens, so sanctions won't work.
I still don't believe they would launch an attack on us, not so sure about SK though.

Actually, there's a world of difference.  President Obama said:

"I think John McCain has genuine passion about many of these international issue. But only I'm the president of the United States."

"Members of Congress, they've got their constitutional duties, and I'm sure they'll carry them out in a way they think is appropriate. I'm the president of the United States, and I'll carry out my responsibilities the way I think is appropriate."

Former President Bush said:  "See, I'm the decider, and I decide what is best. And what's best is for Don Rumsfeld to remain as the secretary of defense."

President Obama spoke as if he was speaking to adults, took his critics' views into consideration, and politely but firmly addressed the issue.

President Bush spoke bluntly, some might say rudely, as if he was talking to a child, and said something that has since proven to be patently false.  He also said it in such an awkward, annoyed way that people are still rolling their eyes and snickering about it.

See the difference?

So what is YOUR idea of the correct solution to this problem?

UN is useless.
Sanctions won't work.
Kim Jong-Il doesn't give a damn about his fellow Countrymen.

Seems to me you've just outlined the EXACT reasons why the ONLY way to deal with this MEGLOMANIAC is to convince him that his ASS will be INCINERATED in a split second if he so much as puts his finger on "the launch" button.

I would just say that this is more complicated than this list can solve, but interesting to read the opinions.

Maybe the answer lies with the maniac's generals? Maybe China holds the key?

The maniac surely knows he can't "wipe out the U.S. once and for all". It's just rubbish.
His generals must be scared shitless. Same for South Korea, where we still have 30K soldiers.

For the US to match ramped up rhetoric seems pointless to me.
For the US to gather support from other countries in dealing with the maniac seems very helpful to me.

"Cmon now, we just had 8 years of your alternative policies, with no success."

No success?

Bush went to the UN, got sanctions against Iraq and no one dared enforce them.

So we did go at it without full UN support and look -- Iraq is far better off today than it was under Saddam.

Once Iraq was invaded, NoKo was pretty quick to get to the bargaining table - wonder why!

Once Iraq was invaded, Libya walked away from its nuke program and gave us all their intel on the Kahn network in Pakistan which has since been shut down.

It is not a question of alternative policies.
It is a question of other nations understanding that you mean business when you say you intend to enforce sanctions.
