The attorneys for Fox, owned by media baron Rupert Murdock, successfully argued the First Amendment gives broadcasters the right to lie or deliberately distort news reports on the public airwaves. We are pushing for a consumer protection solution that labels news content according to its adherence to ethical journalism standards that have been codified by the Society of Professional Journalists (Ethics: spj.org).
A News Quality Rating System and Content Labeling approach, follows a tradition of consumer protection product labeling, that is very familiar to Americans. The ratings are anti-censorship and can benefit consumers.

Appellate Court Rules Media Can Legally Lie.
By Mike Gaddy. Published Feb. 28, 2003
On February 14, a Florida Appeals court ruled there is absolutely nothing illegal about lying, concealing or distorting information by a major press organization. The court reversed the $425,000 jury verdict in favor of journalist Jane Akre who charged she was pressured by Fox Television management and lawyers to air what she knew and documented to be false information. The ruling basically declares it is technically not against any law, rule, or regulation to deliberately lie or distort the news on a television broadcast.

On August 18, 2000, a six-person jury was unanimous in its conclusion that Akre was indeed fired for threatening to report the station's pressure to broadcast what jurors decided was "a false, distorted, or slanted" story about the widespread use of growth hormone in dairy cows.

The court did not dispute the heart of Akre's claim, that Fox pressured her to broadcast a false story to protect the broadcaster from having to defend the truth in court, as well as suffer the ire of irate advertisers. Fox argued from the first, and failed on three separate occasions, in front of three different judges, to have the case tossed out on the grounds there is no hard, fast, and written rule against deliberate distortion of the news.

The attorneys for Fox, owned by media baron Rupert Murdock, argued the First Amendment gives broadcasters the right to lie or deliberately distort news reports on the public airwaves.

In its six-page written decision, the Court of Appeals held that the Federal Communications Commission position against news distortion is only a "policy," not a promulgated law, rule, or regulation. Fox aired a report after the ruling saying it was "totally vindicated" by the verdict.

Buck Ofama!

He is sucking so bad! LOL! I can't believe that anyone with a lick of sense would defend this fucking clown. Let's see in five short months he has quadrupled our deficit, and has managed to burden the next four generations of Americans with a debt that they could not legally vote on. I'd call that taxation without representation. Yet some brain dead hopeless liberal fools still think that the most underqualified, radically ideological, lefttarded asshat is some kind of genius. Pretty funny in a sick and twisted kind of way. His numbers are sinking like a rock and he will go down as the most fiscally irresponsible president in the history of the USA. Yet the Obamadrones continue to support him! LOL!

He has managed to put us in deeper debt than every president from George Washington to George W. Bush combined, and somehow liberal idiots think that nothing is wrong with that! Care to explain that idiocy libs? Anyone? Do I hear a Bush hiccup coming? In just over three and half months he spent more than all presidents in the entire history of the USA combined!!! Think about that for a second drones!

Why do liberals love big government so much? Why do they want Barry to determine how our money is redistributed? Why is my money going to fuckers that are too lazy to work for their own money? Why is Barry offering free health care to illegal immigrants? Why are liberals so goddamned stupid that they support this kind of shit?!

Why is corporate America evil, and big government good? Did corporate America bankrupt Medicare? Did corporate America bankrupt Medicaid? Did corporate America cook the books at Fanny Mae and Freddie Mac? No! Hell no!!!! Big government did! More accurately Democrats in big government did! Yet for some reason that defies all logic, Obamadrones want to hand over more power to the same fuckers that have led us into the worst recession since the 1930's!!! ROTFLMMFAO!!! You fucking liberals are dolts! The whole lot of you liberals are idiots. You never learn from history! Never! You see that socialized medicine has failed everywhere it has been tried yet you're ready to destroy our entire health care system because some fucker that has never held a real job in his life tells you that we must punish "the profiteers." You are ready to throw our entire system away because an ideologue tells you too! Can anyone of you libs tell me why when leaders of Canada and the UK need medical attention they fly to the USA to get it?

It's true. Liberalism is a mental disorder! There can be no other rational explanation.

Yeah let's not talk about the idiocy that is Barry. Let's just slam the one media outlet that doesn't blow the golden cock of Barry! That makes sense! LOL!

I'd rather have another 12 years of Bush than another six months of this fucking clown. But then again, I deal with the facts not the ideology. Just wait until the massive hyper-inflation hits and unemployment tops 10%. I'll go so far as to say that unemployment will top 12%. We'll see just how popular this idiot is then. That's gonna happen sooner than most of you drones realize, and it all be because of policy decisions that Barry made. Bush won't be responsible for any of it! You better know that I'm gonna rub that shit in every one of your faces! And happily, I might add! It's coming drones! It's coming very soon! Bravo! Barry is destroying our country!

Funny story. This past weekend I was in Atlanta for my niece's wedding. I come form a military family. In attendance were roughly 500 people. Of those there were three generals (one brig. two Lt gens). There was also an Admiral of the Navy (my uncle Ralph) and at least five Colonels and Lt. Colonels. Not to mention a smattering of Captains and Majors. Of these military vets many of them have served at least one tour in Iraq or Afghanistan. Most of them have served multiple tours.

My 2nd cousin is a Major who has served three tours in Iraq and one in Afghanistan. They all told the same story. One which I needn't of heard, because I already knew the truth, but for the drones here I shall pass it along. My cousin the Major, Kate, told me that in Afghanistan the Afgani high command think that Obama is a complete and utter joke. They all fear that is spinelessness is only going to make this war on terror much more dangerous. She told of an Afghani General who was slamming Barry because, "He thinks he can talk these murderers out of their hatred!" He is insane, stupid or both!" As a US military officer she could say nothing. She is a professional soldier and would never undermine her Commander In Chief to an officer from another country. However, to me she said that every officer that she knows in the US military is petrified about his lack of understanding about the enemy we face.

Kate's husband, Jeff, is a Lt. Col. in the Army. He told me that what is happening in Iran is a direct result of the war in Iraq. "Steve, what the media are happily ignoring is the fact that the Iranian people watched as the Iraqis held free and fair elections. This is so stunning in that part of the world that it has shaken up the entire region." I asked him point blank, "Jeff are you talking about the domino effect of Democracy?" Without a seconds hesitation he said, "Exactly right! Iran is about to boil over because they have been denied exactly what the Iraqi just fought for and attained. They are ready to fight for their freedom and Obama wants to hold direct talks with the mullahs that are denying them that freedom. Do the math!." He then added, "Not that Bush will get any credit for it, but he is absolutely partially responsible for it."

I asked these vets what they thought about the Obamadrones that have slammed Bush and the Iraq War since day one. Every single of them, to a man and woman, said the same thing. "Those idiots have their heads up their asses!" Or words to that effect. My cousin Kate put it this way, "None of those idiots would feel that way if they had seen the shit hole that was Iraq before we got there!" She also told me of countless Iraqi families that brought the US military tea and cakes every single day by way of saying thanks. I then asked an entire group of vets that had served in Iraq if the fight was worth the loss of American life and treasure. In unison they said not just yes, but "hell yes!"

Sorry drones. I'll take the word of the US Military that has served the better part of six years in Iraq and Afghanistan over the word of some piss ant liberal.

What is happening in Iran right now is a direct result of our liberation of Iraq. Even the Iraqi troops acknowledge this fact. The same exact thing happened in Eastern Europe when Reagan helped bring down the USSR. The fact that liberals have a tough time dealing with these absolute facts is laughable.

Obama is laughed at by the Iraqis and the Afghans! And I got that straight from the men and women that know the real truth!

Checkmate!

Good comeback funman! Although I wonder where you get the number three? His numbers are sinking like a stone and when the unemployment numbers and massive hyper-inflation hit any hopes of a second term will be long. He sucks. Face it. I know the truth hurts, but it's better to just face up to it. There are so many more conservatives on this site then you know it's crazy. Trust me when I tell you, there are more of us than there are of you guys. They, unlike me, just don't have the stomach to deal with a bunch of brainwashed drones. I look at it as sport.

500 people at a wedding, that's some serious scratch, any grunts in attendance, I've met and talked to alot of those... you get a different take, the military is much like society, class levels, and salaries and what not... The difference you'd see in the presidents staff and say the people who cook and clean in the white house, same place different experience.

Can someone refresh my memory here. What Republican Senator ran his car off a bridge and left a woman to drown. You guys know, the Republican that swam ashore and did not report the accident for more than 24 hours so he could sober up and avoid prosecution. The one that was trying to score a quick fuck, but ended up committing vehicular homicide? What was his name again?

It was a great wedding! My brother has the cash and he figures he only has one daughter so he really went above and beyond.

To your question about and grunts in attendance. Absolutely! Quite a few in fact. They all got along quite well with the officers in attendance too. They too agreed that there is much more going on inside Iraq and Afghanistan that the media is reporting, and they also agreed that Barry is clueless as to the facts on the ground. In fact I heard some stories of some high ranking types who were reassigned because they were "too close" to the Bush administration to be of any use to Obama. This is highly unusual. Most presidents never interfere with the officers in power positions "in theater" guys/gals know the score on the ground. Especially during a time of war. Obama is too political for that tradition to hold. So he had them reassigned. This is just one more reason that many inside the military don't like the man. They see him as all politics, all the time. That can be a very dangerous mindset. Say what you will about Bush, but he put his faith in the Generals on the ground. Apparently many of the Iraqi and Afghan officers hold the same view about Barry. But hey, what the fuck do they know?!

You are right, it wasn't a member of "God's Own Party" responsible for that tragedy. But turning the controls over to the likes of Lee Atwater and Karl Rove and marketing to a specific demographic means different rules and different standards apply.

He must resign immedietly.

Bush put faith in Generals on the ground? Then why did we hire mercenaries to go after AQ in Afghanistan? Why did he wait 3 years to increase the troop size in Iraq? Just two things that come to mind right away, that went against top miltary advice.
Bush fired Rumsfeld, and obama kept Gates on... let's be real, this goes both ways... niether party is embraced by our troops, they fight for each other... I've never met any NCO that has ever disputed that, they never have told me they fight for political parties, just their homeboys.

I guess there's always a way to spin an event one way or the other. If I've got the timeline right, the first (highly publicized) post-invasion elections in Iraq were held in January 2005. In June 2005, Ahmadinejad was elected in Iran. But somehow, 4 years later, the post-election battle in Iran is all about Iraq ?
One could easily spin it the other way and say that Obama's presidency emboldened the Iranians to fight for peace, democracy, freedom and portuguese water dogs. After all, he was elected just 7 months earlier. But to be honest, I think that would be BS too.

Riffy, sounds like a great wedding!

I know quite a few military folk here in DC from every level and every branch.
Many have served under different Presidents/Secretaries of Defense, and have fought in a number of conflicts.
I also know people that are in both State Dept. and intel, and many of them are former military.

With very few exceptions, they echo the general sentiments of your wedding guests.
They see the Obama Administration as ham-handed, unfamiliar with how the military and intelligence communities operate, and more intent on trying to negotiate with our enemies than on taking a tough stand against them.

As for Iran, many of the younger people of that country have wanted change for years.
The problem is, the religious leaders of that country have a stranglehold on the population - they rig elections, the populace in not armed.

So regardless of whether the Iranians were spurred to action after this election by either Bush or Obama, the question is what is this Administration doing now to support the notion of fair and democratic reforms given Obama's recent speech.

By essentially saying and doing nothing, Obama now looks like he does not believe his own BS, or cannot deliver!

As hard as our soldiers fought in the streets of Iraq over the years, with the best equipment available, it was the free money offer that eventually stopped the Sunni/Shia battles.
