That 2000monkey -- he's pretty funny making fun of Newt and the EMP device.

But the sad reality is, anyone with a decent sized nuclear weapon (1 megaton or greater) and a reliable method of delivery could indeed create a real problem for any country.

So the Cold War notion that you need enough nuclear weapons for Mutually Assured Destruction is somewhat dated.

For example, if North Korea were able to deliver one of its nukes over the continental US at a very high altitude, it could disrupt power in the country from power grids to your personal computer.  Anything with any type of solid state circuitry could be 100% fried in miliseconds.

Power in your home and office would go out.

Your car would not start.

Your computer, television,, radio -- all fried, even if overall power were restored.
So no communications to determine what happened or what to do.
Within days, people would have no food, water, or any way to get resupplied.

Battery operated devices, like jizzy's butt plug, would be fine.
Aside from that though, even one nuke could paralyze a country.

It is so "out there" that most people have a very hard time understanding the consequences of it.

But the truth is out there Scully!

Actually, our major weapon systems would not be fried due to rad hard components (the military already thought about EMP implications). True, home electronics could be fried, and the continental power grid as well. However, this scenario is worst case and certainly nothing for you and I to worry about.

If North Korea tried this, it would be all over for them . . . even if their missile could even get close to the US.

Well the government has certainly thought about it enough to generate a recent report on the threat and how to handle it.

Now if it was a report on global warming...ah, climate change, brought about by all the hot air you libs spew, you'd probably take it more seriously!!

You're right, I am more concerned about the climate change issue. Not you huh?

A lot of citizens think it's a big farce, I hear. That the glacier melting is part of a normal Earth cycle.
I know the big oil companies have financially supported researchers that make that claim.

Fuman you have GOT to be kidding me.
MORE concerned with climate change that a rogue nation getting it's hands on a nuke??
UN-FUCKING-BELIEVABLE.

I, too, do NOT dismiss global warming as left wing psychobabble.
However. I do know that if the WRONG people are in possession of a nuclear weapon than it ain't gonna matter how fast the glaciers melt. There won't be anything left anyway.

Time to dig out the cluepon.

I am concerned about Iran or NK developing nukes, but not worried that they will use them. To do so would mean certain annihilation for them. They want them as a deterrent, IMO. Leverage. Easy for me to say right, I don't live in Israel or Japan or South Korea.

If terrorists get a hold of one, they probably WOULD use it, and that scares me. Russia and the US are probably the only nations that could "end it all" with their arsenals. China nope, Pakistan or India nope. Great Britain or Israel nope.

Anyway, just opinions . . .

PS I never figured it out, why some believe that I'm "very young". Somehow I don't think it was meant as a compliment though.

Well North Korea already has nukes.
The only thing they need is a long-range delivery system and they are close to that as well as evidenced by last week's launch.
Although it reportedly never reached orbit, who knows whether that is true.
And even if it did not, who knows why!
What is clear is that they are still in the business of testing and now they want to start their nuke program again.

Whether they would use them is, for me, not even a question.
Iran in particular has announced its desire to wipe Israel off the Earth and the theocracy in charge is run by a number of hard-cores that are looking to usher in the 12th Imam.

And there is nothing stopping them from passing a nuke onto a terrorist group that Iran backs such as Hezzbolah.  How do you respond to that?

I agree that North Korea is not likely to start something themselves.
But I have little doubt that if they could pass a nuke on to someone, they would.

And, in an age where you don't always know who your enemies are and what they really have, I would prefer to hope for the best, but certainly plan for the worst.  Most people in this country did not think a bunch of Islamic fanatics would hijack a handful of our planes and slam them into the World Trade Center on 9/10/01!!
And those that did see it coming had a pretty good tip -- the terrorists themselves had provided plans for using aircraft as weapons back when the WTC waqs first bombed by Yousef.  Pakistan, a nuclear power that has already passed nuke tech around, is on the brink of an overthrow.

I take a nuclear threat very seriously and in my mind, those who think some of these whackos one won't do something catastrophic are borderline delusional.

"passing a nuke onto a terrorist group that Iran backs such as Hezzbolah.  How do you respond to that?"

Yeah, that's a big worry, true. Or even if they just hand over fissile material. Still, I really don't think that a detonation would happen. Good thing our government doesn't rely on my opinions, huh? Hey, Obama is with you on this issue.

Thing is, we're not going to stop them with force. We would need to eliminate them entirely. I don't know what the answer is. (this is probably obvious to you)

what i find so amusing is that the righties (you know who you are) are so blind that you can't see that you're bitching about the exact thing that the lefties bitched about dubya.  it's hilarious!  the folks who continuously blame bill clinton for everthing from chicken pox to osama bin laden, now say, "isn't it terrible that the only thing obama can do is blame dubya".  classic!

In all fairness, Clinton does have some responsibility regarding Bin Laden, hind sight being 20/20 and all.

This tea party stuff is pretty perplexing though. I guess some have said they are upset about the bailouts, which I think is fair. But taxation without representation? We had an election, and Obama won. He has a high approval rating with Americans. He cut taxes for most Americans.

Good point, actually.

The fact that US Intel had some forewarning and yet the Administration failed to appreciate just how devastating an attack could be mounted by 19 people is exactly the reason why nuke terror is so frightening!

Now I understand that you'd rather poke fun at the Bush Admin, and that's fine -- but your "wit" exposes a very sad reality that some very bad things can happen despite warnings.

Where was your outrage during the W years regarding such things? Oh right, it's the old double standard, eh? Why do you even waste your time with these things? You hated the man and were ready to dismiss him as a  failure before he even took office.  Yet you have some weird obsession with him and apparently with Springsteen too . piss off
