I have no idea if ammo supplies are low.

I have plenty, so I don't care.

But you are damn right there are people in this country that think the Democrats are looking for a way to confiscate guns!  Eric Holder is a big gun-control advocate.  And others in the Administration and Congress have a clear disdain for gun owners.  Take Hillary's recent statements about how many % of guns in Mexican drug cartel hands are US made!  Not only was that "fact" clearly disputed only minutes later, but the shear idiocy of the statement is worthy of consideration.

In the US, you cannot legally obtain fully automatic "assault weapons" like AK-47s or M-16s.  You can get semi-automatic versions in some places for between $250-$500.

Conversely, Central Amercia is literally flooded with FULLY automatic versions -- especially AKs -- for less than $200.

Okay, so Mexican warlords are coming to the US to pay more for a semi, when they can dial up Hugo Chavez and get boxes of fully automatic weapons for less!!

Why do you suppose Hillary (and others that have echoed her "statistic") make such a claim?

When the ATF comes to my place, they'll be in for a treat, I have all three and I will use them!

So you're thinking once you start firing they'll all go away?

I hope it doesn't come to that . . . I can see a different outcome.

Wow!

Not to worry tho -- Obama's got other problems to attend to...
NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) - Somali pirates on Wednesday hijacked a U.S.-flagged cargo ship with 20 American crew members onboard, hundreds of miles from the nearest American military vessel in some of the most dangerous waters in the world.
United Kingdom maritime officials have been able to contact the vessel and were told "everyone is OK," according to a U.S. defense official in Washington who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on the record.

British maritime and defense officials did not immediately return phone calls seeking comment.

The 17,000-ton Maersk Alabama was carrying emergency relief to Mombasa, Kenya, when it was hijacked, said Peter Beck-Bang, spokesman for the Copenhagen-based container shipping group A.P. Moller-Maersk. It was the sixth ship seized within a week, a rise that analysts attribute to a new strategy by Somali pirates who are operating far from the warships patrolling the Gulf of Aden.

The company confirmed that the U.S.-flagged vessel has 20 U.S. nationals onboard.

Cmdr. Jane Campbell, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Navy's Bahrain-based 5th Fleet, said that it was the first pirate attack "involving U.S. nationals and a U.S.-flagged vessel in recent memory." She did not give an exact timeframe.

Press secretary Robert Gibbs said the White House was monitoring the incident closely and "assessing a course of action."

"Our top priority is the personal safety of the crew members on board," Gibbs said.

When asked how the U.S. Navy plans to deal with the hijacking, Campbell said she would "not discuss nor speculate on current and future military operations."

It was not clear whether the pirates knew they were hijacking a ship with American crew.

"It's a very significant foreign policy challenge for the Obama administration," said Graeme Gibbon Brooks, managing director of the British company Dryad Maritime Intelligence Service Ltd. "Their citizens are in the hands of criminals and people are waiting to see what happens."

Brooks and other analysts interviewed by the AP declined to speculate on whether American military forces might attempt a rescue operation. A senior Navy official in Washington said the Obama administration was talking to the shipping company to learn "the who, what, why, where and when" of the hijacking.

The U.S. Navy confirmed that the ship was hijacked early Wednesday about 280 miles (450 kilometers) southeast of Eyl, a town in the northern Puntland region of Somalia.

Noel Choong, who heads the International Maritime Bureau, a piracy watchdog group in Kuala Lumpur, said depending on the speed of the ship, and where the pirates wanted to take it, it could take a day or two to reach shore.

U.S. Navy spokesman Lt. Nathan Christensen said the closest U.S. ship at the time of the hijacking was 345 miles (555 kilometers)away.

"The area, the ship was taken in, is not where the focus of our ships has been," Christensen told The Associated Press by phone from the 5th Fleet's Mideast headquarters in Bahrain. "The area we're patrolling is more than a million miles in size. Our ships cannot be everywhere at every time."

Somali pirates are trained fighters who frequently dress in military fatigues and use speedboats equipped with satellite phones and GPS equipment. They are typically armed with automatic weapons, anti-tank rocket launchers and various types of grenades. Far out to sea, their speedboats operate from larger mother ships.

Most hijackings end with million-dollar payouts. Piracy is considered the biggest moneymaker in Somalia, a country that has had no stable government for decades. Roger Middleton, a piracy expert at the London-based think-tank Chatham House, said pirates took up to $80 million in ransoms last year.

A NATO official said from Brussels that the alliance's five warships were patrolling the Gulf of Aden at the time of attack.

"That's where most of the shipping goes through and we can provide most of the protection in that vital trade route," said the official who asked not to be identified under standing rules.

The official said the taking of the crude-filled Saudi supertanker Sirius Star also happened in open water far off the Somali coastline. The Sirius Star was released in January,

NATO has five warships that patrol the region alongside three frigates from the European Union. The U.S. Navy normally keeps between five to 10 ships on station off the Somali coast. The navies of India, China, Japan, Russia and other nations also cooperate in the international patrols.

NATO sees piracy as a long-term problem and is planning to deploy a permanent flotilla to the region this summer. On March 29, a NATO supply ship itself came under attack by Somali pirates who appear to have mistaken it for a merchant ship. The crew quickly overcame the attackers, boarded their boat and captured seven.

This is the second time that Somali pirates have seized a ship belonging to the privately held shipping group A.P. Moller-Maersk. In February 2008, the towing vessel Svitzer Korsakov from the A.P. Moller-Maersk company Svitzer was briefly seized by pirates.

Before this latest hijacking, Somali pirates were holding 14 vessels and about 200 crew members, according to the International Maritime Bureau.

Chuck's take....
Day off, but not such a pleasant one as it’s cold, damp and raining on and off. We managed to get out just a little for some lunch at a pub not far from the hotel…and also dealt with laundry. We stumbled into a neat jewelry maker in the process of walking around after delivering our laundry to a “fluff and fold” place…. the jeweler’s was called “The CRAZY PIG” and is a place that has made a lot of pieces for Keith through the years. They had pictures of him and the owner scattered around the place. Rosie and I admired some pieces and decided we’d come back again another day. Then we strolled around the area popping in and out of several shops and eventually ran into Richard and Nat Kerris in a men’s clothing store. Had a nice chat with them and made our way back to the hotel. For dinner we again stayed close to the hotel, going to a restaurant in the theatre district called Joe Allen’s that had been recommended by Norman Perry, the owner of the Stones’ merchandising company, Anthill. It was fine…and low key…which suited us. Then we wound up the day.
Our second show in the Arena was a step up from our first, and we rocked the house. It felt great from beginning to end. It’s nice to be indoors for a change…and the sound was pretty good for all of us. I had some guests to attend to before the show…John and Mike were back as was Dan Ashley and some of his family. I saw them and others in the Rattlesnake, and we had the usual warm up playing in Keith’s room. We all are feeling the end is near now…. and there is that mixed bag of being happy to move on and sad that we probably won’t see each other for a long time. But we all want to make a good finish, and tonight’s show was a really good one.
Rose Lane and I didn’t go out after…. as I have to leave tomorrow to go to Frankfurt to rehearse with my German band and to play the first show of my Green Leaves and Blue Notes tour.
I had made these arrangements quite some time ago, and knew that it would be challenging with the travel, rehearsal and show, and then to get back for the last Stones’ show in London. I had made Mick and Michael Cohl aware of these plans back when we were rehearsing in Brussels…but all of a sudden they got nervous about me doing it and told me to try and get back the night of the 25th. This would be impossible for me, as my show is in a place called Laubach, Germany…about an hour and a half outside of Frankfurt….and I would not finish until past 10pm. Anyway, I told them that it was nice to “…feel so loved and needed”….and I just brushed off their concerns knowing that it would be no problem for me to get back on the 26th. I had already looked into it, and there were about 5 different flights that would get me there in plenty of time.

Yeah, this is really out of control. I heard that some cruise liners have a sonic weapon that blasts a very loud sound, apparently loud enough to cause pain to the ears no matter what ear protection is used. I I remember watching David Bowie talking about something like this, years ago on Dick Cavett or the BBC. He (Bowie) had purchased the plans to build one for himself from a French patent office . . .

Sounds like a good defense to me.

Shouldn't we be throwing some virgins into a volcano too???

WASHINGTON (AP) - The president's new science adviser said Wednesday that global warming is so dire, the Obama administration is discussing radical technologies to cool Earth's air.
John Holdren told The Associated Press in his first interview since being confirmed last month that the idea of geoengineering the climate is being discussed. One such extreme option includes shooting pollution particles into the upper atmosphere to reflect the sun's rays. Holdren said such an experimental measure would only be used as a last resort.

"It's got to be looked at," he said. "We don't have the luxury of taking any approach off the table."

Holdren outlined several "tipping points" involving global warming that could be fast approaching. Once such milestones are reached, such as complete loss of summer sea ice in the Arctic, it increases chances of "really intolerable consequences," he said.

Twice in a half-hour interview, Holdren compared global warming to being "in a car with bad brakes driving toward a cliff in the fog."

At first, Holdren characterized the potential need to technologically tinker with the climate as just his personal view. However, he went on to say he has raised it in administration discussions.

Holdren, a 65-year-old physicist, is far from alone in taking geoengineering more seriously. The National Academy of Science is making climate tinkering the subject of its first workshop in its new multidiscipline climate challenges program. The British parliament has also discussed the idea.

The American Meteorological Society is crafting a policy statement on geoengineering that says "it is prudent to consider geoengineering's potential, to understand its limits and to avoid rash deployment."

Last week, Princeton scientist Robert Socolow told the National Academy that geoengineering should be an available option in case climate worsens dramatically.

But Holdren noted that shooting particles into the air—making an artificial volcano as one Nobel laureate has suggested—could have grave side effects and would not completely solve all the problems from soaring greenhouse gas emissions. So such actions could not be taken lightly, he said.

Still, "we might get desperate enough to want to use it," he added.

Another geoengineering option he mentioned was the use of so-called artificial trees to suck carbon dioxide—the chief human-caused greenhouse gas—out of the air and store it. At first that seemed prohibitively expensive, but a re-examination of the approach shows it might be less costly, he said.

I don't want anyone to get the wrong idea about me.

Although I own a gun, I am not an NRA member.

And while I am not what most people would consider a gun nut, I do support the Second Amendment and our individual right to bear arms as affirmed in the Supreme Court's decision last year.

But based on my statements in today's posts, I wouldn't want anyone to get the idea that I am Ruby Ridgin' it here in DC!!

Agreed. I don't own a gun but would certainly vote against gun confiscation, even though I don't agree with most NRA positions.
For instance, I cannot support one's right to own an AK47. I just don't see the argument for it.

Somebody pointed out to me another reason ammo sales may have gone up. The ability to defend against armed criminals.
I totally agree that if guns were rounded up, criminals would become more bold thinking the mass public was unarmed.

In the early 80's, I was "home invaded" by a couple of completely wasted gun toting teenage robbers. One held a nickel barreled sawed off shotgun in my gut while the other ransacked my house. Pretty scary to say the least. I was watching the eyes of the guy that held me at gunpoint. It appeared he might fall asleep standing there. I don't have any idea what he was high on. Needless to say, I was pretty concerned about his trigger finger while this was going on. Anyway, they left and the police arrived 45 minutes after my call, which was immediately after they left. And they were eating donuts!! I shit you not . . .

I still don't own a gun, but have taken other measures to make myself safer against this type of crime . . .

Seems like The Woman With The Clumsy Gait isn't actually all that popular...

The media attention that Michelle gets is over the top for sure. They dwell on her appearance. WTF does that matter?
Still, the smartest first lady since Hillary. Hope it does the country some good to have a smart first lady, rather than a stepford wife.

So smart that they won't let her talk anymore. She's more of a Stepford wife than Laura ever was. Plus her hips are twice as wide!

Obama will be fine, just getting into a groove now. Best Obama bar none.

Oh I agree that he's at his best right now; it's just that his best isn't good enough. The Euro papers are filled with articles about how badly he played over there. Seems we've replaced "cowboy" diplomacy with "meek & mild" diplomacy. All those countries refused his pleas to take Gitmo's bad guys. See, electing a massive pussy to the nation's highest office is killing us.

Broheim, Obama is doing just fine. Let the haters hate. Our President was great on the world stage. The surprise visit to Iraq was brilliant, heard thru a friend of a friend over there that he really boosted morale with that move so well that we may have just won the Iraq war. You see, tater, he saw a million faces and he rocked them all.

LOL When President Bush went to visit the troops, that was daring. This joker goes there & suddenly we're winning? And no, he wasn't "great" on the world stage; he was a meek & mild pussy cat. He's WORSE than I thought possible.

I remember one year the NY Times ran 23 front page stories about how Augusta National should allow women to be members there.
