What was that FDR quote?

“In politics, nothing happens by accident. If it happens, you can bet it was planned that way.”

Some say he never said it, but I think maybe he did.

A few other quotes,

“The budget is a mythical bean bag. Congress votes mythical beans into it, and then tries to reach in and pull real beans out.”

“I have a scheme for stopping war. It’s this--no nation is allowed to enter a war till they have paid for the last one.”

“I don’t make jokes. I just watch the government and report the facts.”

Will Rogers

“One of the greatest delusions in the world is the hope that the evils in this world are to be cured by legislation.”

Thomas B. Reed (US congressman)

“Government’s view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax
it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it.”

“No government ever voluntarily reduces itself in size. Government programs, once launched, never disappear. Actually, a government bureau is the nearest thing to eternal life we’ll ever see on this earth.”

Ronald Reagan

“Money is the barometer of a society’s virtue. When you see that trading is done, not by consent, but by compulsion--when you see that in order to produce, you need to obtain permission from men who produce nothing--when you see that money is flowing to those that deal, not in goods, but in favors--when you see that men get richer by graft and pull than by work, and your laws don’t protect you against them, but protect them against you--when you see corruption being rewarded and honesty becoming self-sacrifice--you may know that your society is doomed.”

Ayn Rand

“Our government has kept us in a perpetual state of fear—kept us in a continuous stampede of patriotic fervor—with the cry of grave national emergency. Always there has been some terrible evil at home or some monstrous foreign power that was going to gobble us up if we did not blindly rally behind it.”

General Douglas MacArthur

“Occasionally words must serve to veil the facts. But this must happen in such a way that no one becomes aware of it; or, if it should be noticed, excuses must be at hand, to be produced immediately.”

“For the great majority of mankind are satisfied with appearances as though they were realities…and are often more influenced by things that seem than by those that are.”

Nicolo Machiavelli

Wake up, open your eyes, it's plain to see that the emperor has no clothes.

"I for one think it is pathetic to read the opinions of President Obama's detractors here. "

Oh yeah!?

Here's an idea, bright one - don't click on the thread!

Just curious, did you ever have a problem when Bush's detractors were/are bloviating?

You just have a problem when it is your guy under attack?

Ok, fair enough. I usually did side with W's detractors, true. Not all, but many of the issues were important to me. The US Atty scandal, the way Alabama governor Don Siegelman was handled, Katrina, "the air is Ok to breathe" in Manhatten after the Sept attacks, torture, subsidizing corporate farms at the expense of family farmers. This stuff mattered to me. It was as though W appointed people that didn't agree with the charter of the offices they headed. A lot of public safety officials stopped looking out for the public interests. They actually blocked small meat packing businesses from selling "certified non Mad Cow Disease" meat, fearing it would hurt the mega-packers that couldn't certify their own product due to the massive volume they supply.

I also admit that I don't like MOST of the anti-Obama arguments, even though some are fair arguments. The Socialism argument is very weak, IMO. That he has ulterior motives doesn't get it for me. He has stated that he intends to overturn many of W's policies, and we see that starting to happen now.

Still, I painfully read these opinions and sometimes I respond (which is probably painful for you to read).
That and the fact that we're all fans of the greatest f-ing rock and roll band in the world . . . that's why I visit this blog.

I'm not a big fan of large copy and paste posts, but this opinion completely squares with mine.

- Transportation Secretary LaHood spoke to the "Obama is a socialist" rumor:

I don't agree with it. If you go out and interview these people working on this road in Maryland... these people are thrilled. They are thrilled that they are working in March on a good paying job building roads, which is what they were trained to do. That's going to be happening all over America. So the idea that this is socialism -- it is not socialism, it is economic development. It is going to provide an economic engine around communities all over American for jobs; good paying jobs; and help people pay their bills. I don't call that socialism.... We are the model for the world when it comes to infrastructure. We are the model for the interstate system. I don't call that socialism. Our $40 billion [for the Department of Transportation]: not socialism. It is good paying jobs that is going to drive the economies in a lot of states and a lot of communities."

- on blaming Obama for the recession he said:

"This is not an Obama recession * * * He inherited all of this. He inherited a $1 trillion dollar debt. He inherited the recession. He inherited the lousy stock market. All of this was inherited. The guy has been in office a little over a month and what he has tried to do is listen to every economist he could listen to. And he put in place some opportunities to get people to work quickly through the transportation bill portion of it, to help the banks, and to help the real estate industry. And it is going to take time."

I believe these statements are from today, but don't know that for a fact. I think we all agree that the cable news networks (Fox, MS-DNC, CNN, etc) are pretty much a joke. The only redeeming quality they have is the panelist debate, when we get two sides of a particular story/issue.

I have heard discussions about have election day becoming a "day off" (UK?) for those that go to the polls. On it's face I can see room for abuse, but I really like the idea of ALL eligible voters voting. It should be a shameful act to avoid the polls. Unpatriotic. Just don't vote on that which you don't have an opinion or position.

Hey Nanky,

Remeber the whole socialism argument is weak bro! Don't go there my man! Cuz Barry ain't no socialist! Wha....wha....wh....what....what? Hold on now.........

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iivL4c_3pck&eurl=http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/tob...

Damn son! You didn't have to go actually dig up evidence and shit didja?!

Yes funman, he is a socialist. Big time. He always has been a socialist, and there was a time in the not too distant past that he gladly embraced that label. That you either don't know this fact, or you choose to ignore it I know not, but one thing I know for an absolute fact is that Barack Obama is, was, and always will be a socialist. Just like all of his heroes and mentors have been.

You trying to defend Obama as not being a socialist would be like trying to defend a guy that goes to Klan rallies every Friday night, bowls with Klan members every Wednesday night, goes to the pool hall with these same Klan memebers every Monday night and then trying to claim that the guy is not affiliated with the Klan. Obama's own factual history betrays your entire argument!

I hear ya. That's what I tried to say. It is really hard for me to understand some of the positions I read here (and elsewhere), just like others must feel about my comments. How can they believe that, I ask myself. Strange days we're living through, for sure. I really do believe that America will get through this, and I would never say that if I didn't truly believe it. We really are a GREAT nation, and I hate all of the patriotic crap that gets spoken to rally one side or the other. We CAN do just about anything we set our minds to. Foreigners flock to our colleges to get the best education available. These educations need to be available to all citizens so that we can raise the bar and address all social and economic issues that have been put on the back burner in exchange for  band-aids. Citizens need to get engaged, and to question their own positions/conclusions. All of the lobbyist money pouring in to DC is insignificant, if people would show up at the polls. One man/one vote really is a beautiful thing. Even if you disagree with me.

Most are now all digital. Mine included. In some of the smaller markets CDs are still in common use. When I stared in radio I was spinning vinyl and playing carts (think 8 tracks)! Then I went to Atlanta. "WZGC Z-93! Atlanta's Classic Rock in CD Quality!" LOL! Pretty funny really. The business has changed so much in such a short period of time with the influx of so much new technology. The good news is that they haven't figured out a way to duplicate me on the air yet. Though many stations are blowing out their 7pm-Midnight jocks, and many have already done so with the overnight shifts.

Yeah when you work in an industry that is so reliant on technology sometimes that very technology can bite ya in the ass. I'm fortunate in that I get very strong ratings, and I work at a station that has shown great loyalty to it's air staff. Our full time air staff has essentially been the same for close to 13 years now. That is an incredibly long time for this medium. Plus my station has some of the most loyal hardcore listeners of any market in the entire nation. There was a time not long ago when my station had the highest TSL number(time spent listening) of any rated station in the country! I have worked in radio for well over 20 years now, and I have never worked at a station that had such loyal listeners. Put it this way. If I go to any bar within a 25-30 mile radius of the radio station I pay for only every tenth beer. It's like my own little beer stimulus plan. I tip like a fat cat mind you, but many times I'm told that my money is no good at that particular bar. Same goes for the rest of the air staff. Not a bad gig. If you like to drink!

Typical Obama douchebag supporter:

THE surrealness of it struck me yesterday at Bon MarchĂ©. The man at the exchange counter, usually so surly, asked me my nationality. I got ready to do the usual: bowing my head with shame and whispering so no one could hear: “ Americaine”. Then it hit me. I no longer had to feel ashamed! Barack Obama had liberated me and my fellow expats from a lifetime of humiliation. “I’m American!” I practically shouted, loud enough for the Japanese at the next desk to look up and grin. In the 25 years I have lived overseas I have gone through myriad ruses to hide my nationality, ever since I saw my first anti-American demo in Oxford Street in 1982. Then, I was so green I could not understand why anyone could hate the land where the buffalo roamed. After about three years in England, I was marching too — against Ronald Reagan, against the wars in Central America, against Bush Senior and finally Bush Junior. I developed elaborate excuses about my origins: Italian father, British nationality, and so on. But after Barack, it’s different. The day of the elections, I received this email from a French friend: “To my American friends, this won’t happen often, so savour it. Here is a high five to your great country from a Frenchman.” Another French friend wrote: “You guys make huge mistakes but when you do it right, you really do it. Congratulations!” The man in the tabac today called me “cherie” after he realised I was from the US. At my son’s school, one of the more obnoxious fathers was sporting an Obama T-shirt (and he’s not even American). French mums are wearing starspangled banner scarves and French designer Catherine Malandrino has designed a stars-andstripes silk dress. It reminds me of another brief time when everyone wanted to be American in Paris. In the classic 1959 Godard film Breathless, the gangster, played by Jean-Paul Belmondo, falls in love with the gamine Jean Seberg, an American girl who carries the Herald Tribune in one hand and betrays him with the other. How beloved America was at that time, the era when JFK brought Jackie to Paris. But I know it won’t last. As a French friend warned me: “At last, we forgive you for the Bush years. You’re our friend now. But be careful. We have very short memories.”

Totally agree with you. But the money only buys the pols exposure. Votes are what keep them in power.
(I am no fan of Pelosi. There was a pretty big anti-Pelosi movement in the Bay area recently. However, Cindy Shaheen (sp?) was NEVER a threat to Pelosi's seat)

I am one of those that is not always proud, no matter what. I think we have a VERY shameful past, as a nation. And still, we avoid addressing these shameful acts. Doesn't mean I would leave, or that other acts aren't righteous. I tend to dwell on what still needs to be fixed, and quickly dismiss what has been fixed (I never thought I was perfect). I am one who believes that paying one's taxes IS patriotic, as opposed to dodging taxes which I view as unpatriotic. I have informed OPINIONS on how tax dollars should be spent. And I am very  aware how both sides try to manipulate my opinions through clever deceitful wording. Let me tell you, it ain't easy being me. You can stop reading my posts, but I have to live with me 24/7.

You know our new Treasury Sec'y not only didn't pay his taxes but then only paid the last 7 years worth? Those past that time he could get away w/o paying so he kept the money. Sounds like he's not quite the patriot we needed at this time.

If that's true, it's shameful. There is a statute of limitations on back taxes? That can't be true . . .

His address to Congress wasn't effective, but I trust that the market people know what he meant, and that they know where he stands. He is unknown to me, but not to them.
