Obammie's just a hip, cool Raffracan Ramerican snake oil salesman.

http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/02/10/elkhart.reax/index.html

People won't buy them because they're too scared," she said. "I don't personally see how spending the amount of money [Congress is] talking about spending is going to stimulate the economy."

Robert Dunlop runs a different kind of business, but he agrees with Sell.

"Unfortunately, when you drop a ton of money to pay billion-dollar bonuses on the East Coast, it kind of sucks on the Midwest," said Dunlop, president of J.A. Wagner Construction Co. in Elkhart. "If banks can free up a little bit of credit so that people can buy products and get people back to work, that would be good for this area."

People in Elkhart who were interviewed said they don't have much confidence in the government's ability to resolve the crisis, though Dunlop said he thinks tax relief would help some.

"Unfortunately, you still have to have a job to have relief from the tax burden, and a lot of these people are behind in house payments and, quite frankly, it's a vicious cycle: You don't have a job, you can't make your house payment, you're not out buying anything. Even if you reduce the tax burden to those people, they still need to have some sort of income. When that occurs, they start buying things, which creates more jobs, which then starts the cycle back up again."

But gift shop owner Joanie Smith said she thinks government programs are no solution.

"I think that the government and the banks are the biggest problem, because we have checks and balances to make sure what happened didn't happen, and obviously it didn't work," she said. "They've already bailed out the banks; I don't know why the banks aren't lending money or offering the assistance that most businesses run with."

Geitner was very clenched up during his speechy.  He is a tense troll.

Btw, DC's former crack-loving mayor Marion Barry may go to jail because he hasn't paid his taxes in years.
He may be Obama's next Cabinet pick.  Better seen on weed! Fuck you Gazza, Will ya?

I'm still waiting for a response from my last two posts. Obama is going to destroy much of what this nation has been founded on. That is a fact. This bill sucks hard, and our children are going to pay for it. Thanks to all the drones that voted for this moron! He's an idiot and the sooner he, and his hard left buddies are out of the WH, Senate, and House the better we will all be!

He's a one term chump, and I'll gladly wager any takers and flat $100.00 right here and now to make the bet that he'll win another term. It's not gonna happen folks.

So much for this one...

End the Practice of Writing Legislation Behind Closed Doors: As president, Barack Obama will restore the American people's trust in their government by making government more open and transparent. Obama will work to reform congressional rules to require all legislative sessions, including committee mark-ups and conference committees, to be conducted in public. By making these practices public, the American people will be able to hold their leaders accountable for wasteful spending and lawmakers won't be able to slip favors for lobbyists into bills at the last minute.

The investment banks that securitized mortgages and the consumer banks that overlent have already taken this country down with their greed. The dirty little secret that the FDIC is desperately trying to keep from the American public is that most banks in this country are already insolvent (ever wonder why the FDIC bank takeovers get buried in the Sat news?). Why bankers thought lending 35 times their capitalization was a wise idea is baffling.
I have no idea whether the stimulus will work or not. Doing nothing and letting the banks fail would be the most free market solution. The destructive effect this would have still cost the government money trying to deal with 25%-35% unemployment. Shit, our children haven't even begun to pay off the trillion dollar Iraq war and you folks are squawking about the stimulus bill?
Obama inherited this mess and he's fucked no matter what he does. They print more money and the dollar continues to devaluate. They do nothing and millions more people end up on the streets. Riffy, what's your solution?

LONDON (AP) - World stock markets fell Thursday amid pessimism about the Obama administration's plans to fix the U.S. banking system and restore the overall health of the world's largest economy. European stocks were also undermined by a raft of disappointing earnings.

The FTSE 100 index of leading British shares fell 58.82 points, or 1.4 percent, to 4,175.44, while Germany's DAX declined 96.81 points, or 2.1 percent, to 4,433.28. The CAC-40 in France was 45.08 points, or 1.5 percent, lower at 2,982.64.

Sentiment in Europe, already depressed by further losses in Asia earlier, was hit by the news that a number of companies across the continent reported worse than expected earnings and predicted further difficulties for the months ahead.

In Britain, drinks maker Diageo warned that its profits for the 2008-9 fiscal year would be lower than previously anticipated because of the global economic slowdown, while BT PLC, the telecommunications company, issued its fourth profit warning in the space of just six months as a result of further one-off charges.

Meanwhile in France, EDF, the world's biggest nuclear reactor operator, reported a 40 percent drop in net profit last year, due mainly to a provision related to changes in the regulation of power rates. And carmaker Renault SA swung into the red in the second half of the year and said it expected the outlook to darken further this year as the economic crisis continues to ravage car sales.

"There are no green shoots of recovery; with profit warnings, continuing bad news on the global economy, there is a risk that equity markets will continue to lose ground," said Neil Mackinnon, chief economist at ECU Group.

The raft of grim corporate news in Europe comes as the markets have largely given the thumbs-down to the passing of a $789 billion stimulus bill in Congress and U.S. Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner's bank rescue plan, which could cost up to $2 trillion. On the Geithner plan, investors worried about the lack of detail, specifically the absence of any indications about how the banks' toxic assets would be bought.

"Policymakers will argue these details will be hammered out over time, but in the meantime the economic and financial black hole will potentially deepen, and for markets this means risk aversion will likely remain elevated," said Daragh Maher, an analyst at Calyon Credit Agricole.

That risk aversion was certainly evident in Asia earlier, where Japan's Nikkei stock average tumbled 240.58 points, or 3 percent, to 7,705.36 - the lowest in nearly three months. The Nikkei's losses were accentuated by the fact the markets had been closed on Wednesday for a national holiday.

Meanwhile, Hong Kong's Hang Seng lost 310.91 points, or 2.3 percent, to 13,228.30, while South Korea's Kospi lost 0.9 percent despite another rate cut from the country's central bank. Shanghai's main index was off 0.6 percent and Taiwan's benchmark retreated 2.4 percent. However, Australia's key stock measure gained 1.2 percent.

Shanghai's market came off lows late in the session after Aluminum Corp. of China, the world's biggest aluminum producer, announced it was investing some $19.5 billion in global miner Rio Tinto Group - China's biggest overseas investment ever. The state-controlled Chinese company, also known as Chinalco, will take a bigger stake in the Australian firm by setting up a joint venture and purchasing convertible bonds.

The deal, coming at a time when China's economy is being squeezed by the global economic crunch, reflects Beijing's determination to line up future resources it needs to sustain economic growth. It will also help Rio Tinto pay down some of its nearly $39 billion in debt.

The company's shares jumped 5.6 percent in Shanghai, but lost 4.8 percent in Hong Kong. Shanghai and Hong Kong price moves often differ, with mainland China's markets strongly reflecting local sentiment because they are largely closed to foreigners.

Oil prices fell slightly, with light, sweet crude for March delivery down 60 cents at $35.54 a barrel in electronic trade on the New York Mercantile Exchange. The contract shed $1.99 to settle at $35.94 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange on Wednesday.

In currencies, the dollar dropped 0.4 percent to 90.31 yen while the euro fell 0.7 percent to $1.2808.

Timmy "the Savior" Geithner looked like a deer in the headlights before Congress on Tuesday. Even the most liberal of pundits were less than thrilled!!!!!!!!!!

And don't give me "he's brand new". Bush opened the doors to the Transition team and Geithner came to this job with "the BEST experience" per our President.

I remain pessimistic.

No kidding, huh?!

Obama was asked at the press conference about the stimulus plan and he deferred to the Hobbit because he didn't want to "steal his thunder."  Turns out our Treasury Secrectary had no thunder, no plan, no specifics.  It's like a bunch of kids running the country.

Nanky, you are BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Ouch!

What's this?? Maureen Dowd is not pleased???

Trillion Dollar Baby
Maureen Dowd

Tim Geithner, the learned and laconic civil servant and financial engineer, did not sweep in and infuse our shaky psyches with confidence. For starters, the 47-year-old’s voice kept cracking.

Escorting us over the rickety, foggy bridge from TARP to Son of TARP by way of TALF — don’t ask — Geithner did not, as the president said when he drew on the wisdom of Fred Astaire, inspire us to pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off and start all over again.

The Obama crowd is hung up on the same issues that the Bush crew was hung up on last September: Which of the potentially $2 or $3 trillion in toxic assets will the taxpayers buy and what will we pay for them?

Despite the touting, the Treasury chief unveiled a plan short on illumination, recrimination, fine points and foreclosure closure. The Dow collapsed on its fainting couch as Sports Illustrated swimsuit models rang the closing bell.

It wasn’t only that Geithner’s own tax history — and his time as head of the New York Fed when all the bad stuff was happening on Wall Street, and when he left with nearly a half-million in severance — makes him a dubious messenger for the president’s pledge to keep the haves from further betraying the have-nots.

It wasn’t only that Americans’ already threadbare trust has been ripped by Hank Paulson’s mumbo-jumbo and the Democrats’ bad judgment in accessorizing the stimulus bill with Grammy-level “bling, bling,” as the R.N.C. chairman, Michael Steele, called it.

The problem is that the “lost faith” that Geithner talked about in his announcement Tuesday cannot be restored as long as the taxpayers who are funding these wayward banks don’t have more control.

Geithner is not even requiring the banks to lend in return for the $2 trillion his program will try to marshal, mostly by having the Fed print money out of thin air, thereby diluting our money, or borrowing more from China. (When, exactly, can China foreclose on us and start sending us toxic toys again?)

There’s a weaselly feel to the plan, a sense that tough decisions were postponed even as President Obama warns about our “perfect storm of financial problems.” The outrage is going only one way, as we pony up trillion after trillion.

They are pessimistic because not one person that has any sense of history believes that throwing taxpayer money at the problem is going to fix it! Ask Japan how that worked out for them! This has always been the Democrats MO. They have always loved to tax and spend! Is this shocking to anyone?! Throw the most inexperienced, unqualified, radical leftist into the mix and the spending is going through the roof! The rest of the world knows damned good and well what the Obamadrones are still refusing to see. Namely, that this administration is a fucking disaster!

As for the bet. You're on. Obama is done after one! He looses the majrity in 2010, and then the drones awaken from their mass hypnosis by 2012 after the man/child has destroyed what's left of our country.

$100.00 or $200.00? Let's make it $100.00. The way this man/child is treating the economy neither one of us will probably have a dime by then anyway.

Yeah the bastard has been in office less than a month and the world hasn't been saved yet......Is that you chicken little Kiss my undercover ass

I'm still waiting for a response from my last two posts. Obama is going to destroy much of what this nation has been founded on. That is a fact.

- Actually, this is an opinion. Do you get it? It's just your opinion. Think about it . . .

This bill sucks hard, and our children are going to pay for it. Thanks to all the drones that voted for this moron! He's an idiot and the sooner he, and his hard left buddies are out of the WH, Senate, and House the better we will all be!

- Obama is a moron? Wow, pot kettle black dude.

He's a one term chump, and I'll gladly wager any takers and flat $100.00 right here and now to make the bet that he'll win another term. It's not gonna happen folks.

- Wrong again. You're batting 1000.

Funbag, I suggest that you go check out the Gasx3 messageboard. They could use a few more Obama sycophants we're all full up here. They serve Kool-aid around the clock over there. You'll fit right in.
