This is why I love the city I live in!

Prop. R: YES YES YES!!!
Because Bush deserves his own sewage plant.

published: October 29, 2008

The editors on Proposition R The Bay Guardian is always giving us crap for not doing endorsements, but we've always believed it was more important to maintain our journalistic independence than to become political power brokers. But sometimes there are matters of such importance and urgency that even a news organization must shed its neutrality and take a stand. Gentle reader, we submit to you that Proposition R is such a call to arms, and we insist that you vote for it on Election Day.

This initiative proposes renaming the Oceanside Water Pollution Control Plant as the George W. Bush Sewage Plant. We can't think of an honor more befitting the country's worst president ever.

Prop. R represents San Francisco at its finest. The fact that a couple of local goofballs devoted their personal time and energy to collecting 7,168 signatures to get this on the ballot just shows the lengths people in this town will go to for a laugh. Prop. R isn't just a ballot measure — it's performance art.

The opposition to Prop. R represents the annoying segment of San Francisco's too-serious populace that just can't take a joke. Apparently some folks think it unfairly maligns the hard-working proles collecting a paycheck at the plant. Jeez, come on — how can you work at a sewage treatment plant and not have a sense of humor? Brian McConnell, one of Prop. R's proponents, actually has a good response to this in the voter information pamphlet: "It will also become ... a potential tourist attraction, and therefore an opportunity for the dedicated plant workers to educate visitors about this essential and heretofore unknown public works."

Of course, that argument didn't assuage the humorless editors at the Guardian who told their readers to vote against Prop. R: "The problem — not to be killjoys — is that sewage treatment is actually a pretty important environmental concern, and the Oceanside plant is a pretty good sewage treatment plant. It's insulting to the plant, and the people who work there, to put the name of an environmental villain on the door. Let's name something awful after Bush."

I don't live in the city limits, but if it passes I'll think of george every time I flush Kiss my undercover ass....Another wacky SF proposition.I think it's K. It would decriminalize prostitution. Fuck you Gazza, Will ya?....Wacky indeed.

Thank you guys. It may get heated in this thread, but as I have said many times before I would happily have a beer with anyone on this site. Even the people that I don't get along with at all. There are some that are as passionate as I am from the other side that I would share a laugh and a beer with. Then there peeps like this a-hole that posted that crap. Hey you may not agree with me on the issues. You may hate my views, and I yours, but have the balls to come right out and say it instead of hiding behind a lameass alias. It's just such a douche thing to do.

well Riffy - i aint no douche bag - and so I'll come clean -  it was me.

and I don't hate your views - i try and avoid feelings like that - they are no good for either the  soul or the reasoning process - and you should think about that imho cause i can feel (as have others) a lot of hate coming off of your posts

anyway I am sorry if I offended you - it's not necessarily your views that have gotten me to this point but your patent inability  to get past your own point of view plus your lack of grace and humour with it has angered me to a degree - your dismissal of your fellow ROers as idiots because of their views is , i think, just as offensive as my renegade post - sure I know you feel everything you believe in is under threat - which i disagree with - but again it's your attitude - intentionally or not you give the impression that you are the Great Arbiter of what your country stands for  - it certainly gets on my goat - so I can only imagine how some of your fellow- american posters might feel

i mean i tried debating some issues with you but your response was really just a mono-tone (cf. drone) repetition of what you'd already said and it really seemed to me you had hardly even read what i had to say much less tried to understand it

so  to close i am genuinely sorry if i caused you any offence  but i wouldn't be surprised if i haven't - if you've convinced me of one thing over the course of this thread that is you have the hide of a rhinocerous (or should that be an Elephant!!)

yours out in the open

SIA I think that you're a gent for coming out and admitting that you were the one that made the post. So, for that, I thank you. I am well aware of the fact that I get frustrated at the ideology of people that support Obama. However, the reason is because I am genuinely afraid of what his man represents. The thing that makes it so frustrating, and downright maddening to me is that he has gotten a free pass from not only the media (which even they have fessed up to in recent days), but also many are voting for him. Most of which have no clue as to what his belief system is. Mention the decidely Marxist Saul Alinky Action Group, and the response usually is something along the lines of "go readjust your tinfoil hat!" When the radical associations are mentioned they are dismissed outright. When his tax policy is brought up it too is likewise dismissed. Same goes for his massive spending propossals. When questions conserning his very shady fund raising is mentioned. Nada. Nothing about him seems to sink in with the average voter other than "change" and "hope". To my mind there are many more questions that should be asked of him that the media, and (again to my mind) syncophants can't be bothered with.

I am a happy go lucky kind of guy that gets along with anyone that has ever met me. Just ask people here that have met me. If I sound, or act, meanspirited towards Obama supporters it's because I feel that any negativity about the man is ignored for all the wrong reasons or just flat out dismissed without review. I have studied this election cycle more closely than any other in my lifetime. So when I ask an Obama supporter outright what they like about him and all they can say is that he makes them "feel good" it strikes me as sheer idiocy.

I was talking to a friend of mine a few weeks ago in fact. She was an avid supporter of Obama's. She knew next to nothing about the man, but that didn't keep her from an unwavering support of him. I was racking my brain trying to "show her the way". I respect this woman and I like her a lot, but was puzzled by her blind devotion to a candidate that any other year never would have been in the running. I told her about William Ayers. Nothing. Jeremiah Wright. Nope. Tony Rezko. Same story. ACORN. Nothing. I told her about his constantly changing definition of who is rich. Nothing. I mentioned the higher taxes that she was about to be forced to pay. Zip. Finally I asked her to read a transcript of one of his speeches. She agreed. I then gave her a photocopy of a chapter from Saul Alinsky's Rules For Radicals that Barack had borrowed heavily from for this particular speech. She took it upon herself to read up on Saul Alinsky and his core values, and his open distain for free market capitalism. That's all it took! She had seen the light, so to speak. Her husband is an independant electrical contractor and all of the sudden it hit her like a ton of bricks. Her family would be greatly affected by Obama's views and his tax plan and she had been previously unaware of this fact! She was drone-like in her devotion. The funny thing was when we got together over some cocktails at their house last week she mentioned to her husband Joe that we had had this huge discussion about the election. She told Joe that as much as she hated to admit that I was right about Barack Obama, and her studying of him had shed a new light on him as her choice. Joe, without missing a beat, said, "I sure as hell hope that you'd have had enough sense not to vote for that man!" We all laughed about it because heretofore they had never even talked about the election. Joe had just assumed that Donna would vote for McCain. Donna was about to cast a vote for a man that would have forced her own husband to either go underground with his employess pay or lay them off. Happily Donna did some reading before she cast that ballot. Sadly it may not matter.

I am not a hater though. If I have seemed that way please understand that my rants are always done with a smile on my face and with zero ill intent meant towards anyone. I don't mean to sound pissed of, but I'm genuinely worried for the future of my country because of this man's "fundamental change" that he promisses. I don't want fundamental change! And I sure as hell don't want him to "spread the wealth around". I'll make my own wealth thank you very much, and I'll spread it around to whom I see fit. I am not looking for a free ride from Big Daddy Government.

and I thank you for accepting my apology - as most who have known me over the time I have been here I am not one for getting in to fights and alienanting people - but i'm sorry man i just couldn't resist  Wink

yes emotions are running high - and fair enough too - even for outsiders like myself -  while I know you wont agree with me and my views are  those of a non- tax paying non-american  nevertheless  i tell you what riffy  if BO is elected i will feel a certain sense of vicarious pride in your nation particularly and western democratic systems generally - it will be made manifest that all that American Dream /all (wo)men are created equal stuff isn't just a bunch of George Washington/Apple Pie/Horatio Alger horseshit after all -

i know that it's essentially symbolic but it will be a very heavy symbol rooted in reality and  it will be more than mere "lip service" to ideals that are usually more honoured in the breach than the observance - POTUS, after all, is very heavy gig

Either way, you have not heard the last of the John McCain Army.

" Either way, you have not heard the last of the John McCain Army "

The ' John McCain Army ' waited waaaaay too friggin long in order to go ahead and start airing those ' Jeremiah Wright G.D. America ' Anti - Obama ads .

The GOP should have been running those ads nationally for WEEKS !!!!!

I'm your top prime cut of meat, I'm your choice
I wanna be elected
I'm your yankee doodle dandy in a gold Rolls Royce
I wanna be elected
Kids want a savior, don't need a fake
I wanna be elected
We're gonna rock to the rules that I make
I wanna be elected, elected, elected
I never lied to you, I've always been cool
I wanna be elected
I gotta get the vote, and I told you about school
I wanna be elected, elected, elected
Hallelujah, I wanna be elected
Everyone in the United States of America
We're gonna win this one, take the country by storm
We're gonna be elected
You and me together, young and strong
We're gonna be elected, elected, elected
Respected, selected, call collected
I wanna be elected, elected

What are the odds that I go projectile vomit on my neighbor's (white, Scandinavian) Obama sign if McCain loses?
