Justin Bieber Horrified after Singing Legend Paul McCartney Refuses to Work with Him!

Justin Bieber thinks he’s the classiest of all acts, and he can’t understand why anyone would refuse to work with him; after all, he is one of the most popular celebs in the world. Just imagine the horror sweeping across Justin Bieber’s face when he was turned down by The Beatle’s singer Paul McCartney, who nixed the duet offer almost as fast as they presented it to him.

While Justin felt a duet with McCartney would boost his artistic edge in the singing world, the Beatle’s great didn’t agree and wasn’t eager to risk tarnishing “his stellar reputation” by singing with a lil’ dude who wears really weird drop-crotch pants. Stop wearing the drop-crotch pants, Beebz. Please, I insist. Stop wearing them! In case you don’t know which pants I’m referring to, I’ve included a picture of the signature Bieber drop-crotch pants below.

According to the Globe, “Paul feared it would tarnish his stellar reputation. He turned Justin down flat!” Allegedly, Paul didn’t hesitate one bit before making the decision. While a performance with The Beebz can make virtually any star popular and relevant, Paul McCartney — to put it lightly — isn’t really in the need to gain popularity and/or relevance. He’s one of singing’s greats, so I think he’s fine in the credibility department.

I don’t know the true nature of the conversation, or even if the conversation was real, but if Paul (we are on a first name basis) really did turn Justin down in such a harsh fashion . . . well, I think that’s kind of rude! Don’t you? Justin Bieber is like a delicate flower that must be treated with great care so as not to get his feelings hurt or allow that Beiber hair to wilt.

So, McCartney thinks Bieber is simply a flash in the pan and doesn’t want anything to do with the little diva. So how did Justin respond? What is he going to do now to try and prove his worth to the legend? Simple. He’s going to get down with artists who write deeper and darker songs, ones that really tug at the heartstrings *ugh* to prove his worth. He intends to “hook up with people who write darker, edgier songs hoping one of the tunes will capture Paul’s attention.”

55 YEARS AGO: GEORGE HARRISON JOINS JOHN LENNON AND PAUL MCCARTNEY IN THE QUARRY MEN
by Dave Lifton

...
Hulton Archive, Getty Images

The third part of the equation that would become the Beatles fell into place on Feb. 6, 1958. George Harrison joined the Quarry Men, the John Lennon-led group that Paul McCartney had joined as a second guitarist and singer the previous summer.

Harrison, who was a few weeks shy of his 15th birthday, had known McCartney for about a year. The two were students at the Liverpool Institute and frequently took the same bus to and from school. A friendship blossomed, and the two began jamming together, even after McCartney had moved from Speke to Allerton.

When the Quarry Men – named after the Quarry Bank High School where the band was formed the years earlier – were looking to bring in a third guitarist (they had the idea long before Lynyrd Skynyrd), McCartney suggested his friend. The audition took place, strangely enough, on the top of a double-decker bus. At McCartney’s prompt, Harrison took out his guitar and played Bill Justis’ R&B instrumental ‘Raunchy,’ a No. 2 hit on Sun Records in 1957.

Lennon was impressed with the note-perfect rendition. But the 17-year old Lennon, who was already at Liverpool Art College, had reservations about being in a group with such a youngster. As McCartney put it in ‘Anthology,’ “It seemed an awful lot at the time. If we wanted to do anything grown-up we worried about George looking young. We thought, ‘He doesn’t shave…can’t we get him to look like a grown-up?’”

Typically, Lennon, also in ‘Anthology,’ put it more bluntly. “George looked even younger than Paul — and Paul looked about 10, with his baby face.”

But Harrison’s skill was too good to overlook for Lennon who, despite leading a band was still very much a novice on his instrument, “We asked George to join because he knew more chords,’ he said. “We got a lot from him. Paul had a friend at school who would discover chords, and these would be passed ’round Liverpool. Every time we learnt a new chord, we’d write a song around it.”

Another advantage to having Harrison in the group was that his mother didn’t object to the boys coming over and rehearsing. In fact, she welcomed it and would often give the teenagers small glasses of whiskey.

Three of the pieces were now in place. Over the next four years they would try out different names and bandmates, honing their musical and songwriting chops all the while, before the unstoppable force that became known as the Beatles were unleashed upon the world.

Did Sir Paul McCartney get a ticket to ride the New Orleans streetcar during Super Bowl 2013?

...
Is this Sir Paul McCartney enjoying a streetcar ride in New Orleans, Super Bowl weekend? (Photo by Courtesy Robert Retz)

By Alison Fensterstock, NOLA.com | The Times-Picayune
on February 08, 2013 at 3:00 PM

New Orleans businessman Robert Retz is having a pretty good Mardi Gras season so far. His rental properties are filling up, and he just secured a three-year commercial loan at a fixed rate for his company, SL Contractors. Oh, and he met Paul McCartney on the streetcar, he says.

Since Super Bowl 2013 weekend, a photo that appears to be the former Beatle has been circulating on Facebook (as of Friday afternoon, it has 18,626 “likes” and has been shared 7,270 times on the site.) The woman McCartney is sitting next to, Retz says, is Retz's childhood friend Evelyn Trahan.

Retz, 57, and Trahan, 56, grew up together in Mid-City. The two friends had recently gotten back in touch, and on Super Bowl Sunday, were waiting for the streetcar at Canal Street and Carrollton Avenue with their families, heading back toward the old neighborhood to pick up their cars. When the streetcar pulled up, there was a bit of a surprise on board.

...
Here is the full photo that New Orleanian Robert Retz said he shot of Sir Paul McCartney enjoying a streetcar ride during the big Super Bowl 2013 weekend.
Courtesy Robert Retz

Here’s the story, as Retz tells it:

“Paul was sitting there on the first seat, not the long seat, the first double seat,” Retz said. Nancy Shevell, McCartney’s wife of two years, as well as six or eight other riders were on board, he said. Retz assumed that all were part of the musician’s entourage; he noticed a limousine keeping pace with the car as it rumbled down Canal Street.

“The security said, no, don’t get on,” Retz said. “And Evelyn said, ‘Paul, you’re not going to take a picture with me?’”

Sir Paul was indeed in New Orleans for the Super Bowl 2013 weekend. He attended Rolling Stone magazine’s party at the Bud Light Hotel on Feb. 1, and GQ’s soiree on St. Charles Avenue the following night. Many celebrities were photographed over that weekend enjoying New Orleans – Jay-Z was apparently seen drinking cognac “out of plastic cups,” in a dive bar, and Snoop Dogg spent an evening at the R Bar in Marigny – so it’s not that farfetched that McCartney might get a ticket to ride the streetcar.

The story, besides going viral on Facebook, has been picked up by dozens of blogs and websites, including MSN Music and the UK’s Daily Mirror. Most of the posts misidentify Retz as Robert Senft, and quote a version of his original Facebook post joking that “this guy got on the streetcar, and started singing Beatles songs to my friend Evelyn. Turns out it was Paul McCartney.”

“I was completely misquoted,” he laughed. “You’re the first person to actually talk to me.”

The NME reported that streetcar passengers “ignored” McCartney after the star “burst into a medley of some of the Beatles’ biggest hits.” That is not exactly what happened, Retz said.

After Retz and Trahan’s group boarded the streetcar, he said, Trahan sat next to McCartney, and started singing “I Want To Hold Your Hand.” The former Beatle joined in for a few bars, and posed for pictures.

“He leaned over and put his cheek on her cheek,” for a photo, Retz said, “but her sister was so nervous she turned the camera off instead of taking the picture.”

Retz and Trahan’s group hopped off the streetcar after a few blocks.

“We kind of felt like we were imposing,” he said.

After getting home, Trahan emailed the photo to half a dozen friends. Retz uploaded it to Facebook, and soon after, the chain reaction started. Trahan called him, mystified, when she began receiving phone calls and emails from friends she hadn’t spoken to in years, asking about her ride with the star.

“’She said, I’m going to have stalkers!’” Retz said. He himself has been getting a flood of Facebook friend requests: “I’ve got people friending me from Argentina, Brazil,” he said.

Of the encounter, Retz said: “It only lasted a few minutes, but he could not have been nicer. It was extremely cool. Extremely cool.”

PAUL MCCARTNEY MISTAKEN FOR STREET BUSKER IN NEW ORLEANS
by Billy Dukes

...
Christopher Polk, Getty Images

Paul McCartney and his wife Nancy Shevell were in New Orleans for Super Bowl Sunday, and over the weekend he found himself on a street car with fellow revelers. The former Beatle used the time to serenade those around him with hits from the Fab Four’s catalog, but most thought he was a lowly busker who would soon ask for tips.

The London Mirror reports that those on the street car ignored McCartney as he worked through hits like ‘A Hard Day’s Night.’ “He started to sing directly to my friend Evelyn,” says Louisiana resident Robert Senft. “We realized it was Sir Paul McCartney and were in shock.”

Within moments the rest of the street car was taking photos of McCartney with Shevell. “It was a once in a lifetime experience,” Senft tells the Mirror.

The 70-year-old singer was allegedly in New Orleans to party with Justin Timberlake and company during the big game. It’s not immediately clear if McCartney was cheering for the 49ers or Ravens. Of course he performed at halftime during Super Bowl XXXIX in 2005.

Joey, something has got to give...

U2 won't be adding to its closetful of Grammy Awards this year. The band was nominated in the Best Long Form Music Video category for their documentary, From The Sky Down, but that award's already been announced and it went to Mumford & Sons' film, Big Easy Express.

U2 was looking for its 23rd Grammy Award. Maybe next year?

"  February 13, 2013 -- BBC News

Sir Paul McCartney surprised at 17th Grammy win

Sir Paul McCartney said he was "surprised" to win his 17th Grammy Award for his album Kisses on the Bottom, which was released last year.

"It came as a big shock to me to know there were 17 to tell you the truth," he told BBC 6 Music.

"I don't keep count, I suppose that's somewhat flash - people know my figures better than I do."

The best traditional pop vocal album Grammy was his first for a record of new material since his Beatles days.

He might have lost count of how many Grammys he has on the mantle-piece, but Sir Paul said receiving praise from the American awards is always flattering.

"I don't think a lot of the best musicians in the world got Grammys, it only goes to select few, and so to be one of those for the 17th time is phenomenal," he said.

Grammy success theory

Sir Paul did not attend the awards ceremony in Los Angeles on Sunday but watched it on television.

The musician said the moment he and his wife received news of the win via a text message from his manager was "particularly exciting".

"We were watching it on telly, it was like 'Oh yeah!'. You can imagine the room went wild," he said.

The singer also shared his theory for Grammy success - not to attend the awards.

"The only way to win one is to not go," he laughed. "The minute you go and you're sitting in the audience it'll be 'And the winner is... John Mayer', and you do that face, and you smile and clap and go 'how good humoured am I?'.

Last year, Nirvana members Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic joined forces with Sir Paul for some casual recording sessions.

They created the rock behemoth Cut Me Some Slack, which features on the soundtrack to Grohl's Sound City documentary, Sound City: Real to Reel.

It resulted in them playing on stage together in December, joined by guitarist Pat Smear, to perform the track live at a New York charity concert in Madison Square Garden, in aid of victims of Hurricane Sandy.

"One thing I love about what I do is that so much of it happens organically," Sir Paul said about working on the project with his "friend" Grohl, who he described as "likeable", "enthusiastic" and "on the ball".

Upon deciding to make up a new song rather than do a cover, Sir Paul said he turned up to the recording session with a "crazy guitar" actor Johnny Depp had given him.

"It's a cigar box guitar, but it sounds like the hottest piece of kit on earth... it just takes over, it's amazing, it's like it's alive," he said.

"I was so excited by it, I took it over and I think Dave was a bit surprised. I think he thought I might play bass."

After jamming, they gave the song some more structure, recorded it again and formed Cut Me Some Slack.

"The organic aspect of just showing up for a jam and then we made this track - it's something a major label should have spent six months planning, but it just came out of the blue and I love that," he said.

New album

"When we started we really were just four kids from Liverpool hoping to get a bit of money to buy a car, that's all there was to it," Sir Paul said.

"It wasn't this great artistic voyage, but it happened and it was phenomenal."

A follow-up album to Kisses on the Bottom is currently being recorded at Air Studios in London.

Sir Paul said he was working with a stellar line-up including Mark Ronson, Ethan Johns, Sir George Martin's son Giles and acclaimed producer Paul Epworth.

"They're cool people whose work I liked and of course, what's happened is I like them all," he said.

He added he aimed for the "modern songs" to form a new LP which will be finished within the next few months.  "
