David Frost will return to 'Nixon-style' interviews with Paul McCartney

Al Jazeera English series will begin with an in-depth interview with the former Beatle on November 9.

Veteran interrogator David Frost is returning to what has been described as 'Nixon-style' in-depth interviews for the TV channel Al Jazeera English.

First up for Sir David is musical knight Paul McCartney to be followed by Archbishop Desmond Tutu. 73-year-old Frost says of the 60-minute episodes: "The longer conversation not just allows us to go into more depth, but relaxes interviewees to talk more about their life and work."

The series is due to start on November 9.

Frost, who has worked for Al Jazeera English since its launch in 2006, is busy in other areas, too. His production company David Paradine Productions is overseeing a remake of the wartime classic The Dambusters, which will be directed by Peter Jackson.   "

Paul McCartney Receives Award For Live and Let Die

Paul McCartney has received a BMI Million-Air Award to honor over 4 million U.S. broadcast performances of his James Bond film song, "Live and Let Die."

The designation has been bestowed on many of BMI's iconic songwriters, including Dolly Parton, Isaac Hayes and Roy Orbison. Sir Paul McCartney has received a staggering 75 BMI Million-Air Awards throughout his career, including one for achieving 5 million U.S. plays for The Beatles' "Yesterday" in 1988, which now surpasses an awe-inspiring 9 million count.

"Sir Paul McCartney's recognition emphasizes BMI's commitment to celebrating and bringing value to music," said BMI President & CEO Del Bryant. "'Live and Let Die' shows the incredible magnitude and cultural impact of a single song, both as a musical composition and an integral piece of cinematic history."

In similar stride to Sir Paul McCartney, recent BMI London Awards Song of the Year writer Adele debuted "Skyfall" last week, the premier track for upcoming Bond film of the same name. The song was recorded in London's Abbey Road studios, a thematic tie that continues BMI's historic role as a driving force in music and pop culture.

" This all could have been handled so much better.
This is just a preview of things to come next year.
The thing that hits me is Charlie was perfectly content in that
club setting last summer, and now this spectacle.
You would think they would want to have more control of their destiny.
More control of their legacy.
Do something different, be the band which did surprise club shows for a tour.
Or have a residency series in a few different cities.
Something no band has done before.
Instead, we get this charade.
I hope folks who get tickets have a good time.
Never thought I would say this, but I'm moving on.
Yeah, I'm moving on........   "

http://www.eonline.com/news/358083/paul-mccartney-yoko-ono-did-not-break-up-beat...

" If you believe Paul McCartney, Yoko Ono was the not the cause of the Beatles' breakup more than four decades ago.

In an interview with famed British journalist David Frost set for broadcast on Al Jazeera English next month, Macca makes it clear that in his view, the band was already on a long and winding road to splitsville before John Lennon's widow even came on the scene.

"She certainly didn't break the group up, the group was breaking up," the Guardian quotes the 70-year-old McCartney as saying about the moptops' 1970 demise.

Of course, that line of thinking isn't exactly shared by Beatles fans, many of whom assert that once Yoko and John fell in love, that marked the beginning of the end for the Fab Four as Lennon wanted to strike out on his own. The singer-songwriter would subsequently record his 1970 debut solo album, John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band.

But according to Paul—who once chafed at Ono's presence in the recording studio during the Beatles' final years—the Japanese artist's influence opened Lennon up to the avant garde and new musical paths without which he would never have penned songs like "Imagine."

"I don't think he would have done that without Yoko, so I don't think you can blame her for anything. When Yoko came along, part of her attraction was her avant garde side, her view of things, so she showed him another way to be, which was very attractive to him," added McCartney. "So it was time for John to leave, he was definitely going to leave."

Imagine that.

If anything, the "Get Back" singer chalked up much of the divisions that erupted within the Beatles to talent agent Allen Klein, who took over running the group's business affairs after their original manager, Brian Epstein, died in 1967.

"I was fighting against the other three guys who'd been my lifelong soul buddies," noted McCartney. "I said I wanted to fight Klein."
We're glad he set the record straight on an important piece of pop history.

PAUL MCCARTNEY SAYS YOKO ONO WASN’T RESPONSIBLE FOR BREAKING UP THE BEATLES
by: Chad Childers

For many years, there has been much speculation that John Lennon‘s wife, Yoko Ono, influenced the Beatles breakup, but Paul McCartney says that it’s not true and that the band was splitting regardless of Ono.

Classic Rock magazine reports that McCartney shares his feelings on the subject in a new interview with Sir David Frost that will be broadcast on Al Jazeera next month to celebrate his 70th birthday.

McCartney says, “When Yoko came along, part of her attraction was her avant-garde side, her view of things. She showed him another way to be, which was very attractive to him. So it was time for John to leave. He was definitely going to go. She certainly didn’t break the group up — the group was breaking up.”

The vocalist credits Ono with Lennon’s inspiring single ‘Imagine,’ adding, “I don’t think he would have done that without Yoko, so I don’t think you can blame her for anything.” As for the band’s split, McCartney says, “It wasn’t a bad thing … [We left] a neat body of work.”

Speaking of bodies of work, McCartney is increasingly adding to his. The singer has his ‘Live Kisses‘ DVD, which features his take on several standards, arriving on Nov. 13. He’s also covered ‘The Christmas Song‘ for Starbucks latest compilation, ‘Holidays Rule,’ which is in outlets tomorrow. Plus, there’s word that McCartney may have two albums currently in the works.

November 1, 2012 -- Columbia Reports

Paul McCartney too loud for Bogota

The organizer of a Paul McCartney concert in Bogota faces a fine after the legendary British artist "broke the sound limit" during one of his concerts in the Colombian capital in April.

The ex-Beatle is reported to have exceeded the permitted levels of noise during the song "Live and Let Die" and the promoter, Fernan Martinez, is now set to be punished by the Department of Environment for Bogota.

Martinez revealed via his Twitter account that the noise from the crowd and McCartney was the main source of the problem.

When interviewed by W Radio, Martinez questioned the decision to impose the punishment and sarcastically questioned what the mayor of Bogota thinks happens at concerts.

He said. "They are punishing public euphoria... the sanction has curious components, but there are no complaints or appeals from any of the neighbors near the stadium ."

Martinez then added that the mayor of Bogota should have asked people "not to clap, bring headphones and don't cry."

Paul McCartney contest winner gives tickets away to scam victim

A News Channel 5 viewer who won Paul McCartney tickets from a KSDK online contest is giving her tickets away to a woman who got scammed out of hers.

As soon as tickets went on-sale to see the former Beatle at the Scottrade Center, Karen Wheat of Highland, Illinois went online.

"I've been so psyched up about this," Wheat said. "It's a lifelong dream. I've marked it off my bucket list!"

Wheat was on the Scottrade Center website looking at possible seats and a logo for the "iconcerttickets.com" website popped up. She assumed it was associated with Scottrade and clicked it on and got her debit card ready for a big purchase.

"(They) got all my ticket information, the seat, the row. They took the money out of my checking account, of course, everything right then," she said.

Wheat believes she was scammed. She paid $252 for two tickets. Iconcerttickets.com promised that her tickets would arrive by November 4 for the November 11 concert.

Soon after, Wheat received a similar guarantee from a different company, OfficialOnlineTickets.com. Official Online Tickets had all of Wheat's information, although the relationship between the two companies is unclear. But on October 23, a woman from OfficialOnlineTickets.com called and told wheat that her tickets were no longer guaranteed.

"She said they cannot get iconcert tickets on the phone. They can't reach them by email, nothing," Wheat said. "So they're afraid that all the people that purchased tickets on this are not going to get their tickets now."

Wheat's fear is that not only will she probably not receive her tickets but the online sites now have all of her personal information. A spokesperson for Scottrade Center said they don't do business with iconcert or the other company. They only do business with Ticketmaster.

Iconcerttickets.com has received an F rating from the Better Business Bureau in Boca Rotan, Florida.

And Karen Wheat said she hopes what happened to her will be lesson for others.

Henry McCullough Heart Attack: Family says Paul McCartney and Wings guitarist is critically ill

Sad news for the family and friends of Henry McCullough.

(left to right)- Denny Seiwell, Linda, Paul, Denny Laine, Henry McCullough

The 69-year-old Paul McCartney & Wings guitarist is critically ill after suffering from a heart attack on Monday, Nov. 5. His family says McCullough, who is one of the world's best-known musicians, is not doing well.

"He is a very special person," his sister Rae Morrison tells BBC News, adding that she and her siblings have recieved many messages of support from friends and fans. "We really are very worried for him, his sister is on her way home from Florida and his brother is coming home from Glasgow," she continued.

McCullough was invited by McCartney to join Wings in the 1970s and spent 18 months touring with them. He was also a member of Joe Cocker's band and performed with them at the legendary Woodstock concert in 1969.

And McCartney wasn't the only Beatle McCullough worked alongside. He joined George Harrison's label, Dark Horse, to record his 1975 solo album, "Mind Your Own Business. "

Our prayers are with him and his family.  "

12:57PM GMT 11 Nov 2012

Sir Paul McCartney and his wife Nancy Shevell narrowly avoided disaster after the helicopter they were travelling in almost crashed into trees in the driving rain, according to air traffic reports.

The couple were travelling back from the launch of Sir Paul's daughter Mary's new cookery book in London to their home in London when the incident happened in May.

According to reports released by the Air Accidents Investigations Branch, that monitors air traffic, the helicopter came within "two feet" of crashing into the trees.

The report said that the "commander" of the helicopter became disorientated in bad weather and skimmed the trees while trying to land.

In the end, the unnamed 55-year-old pilot, was forced to abort the landing and instead land at nearby Lydd Airport in Kent.

The near miss was recorded as a "serious incident", which it defines as "involving circumstances indicating that nan accident nearly occurred".

No action will be taken against the charter company Air Harrods, although recommendations have been made over flight safety.

The firm, that is also used by Tony Blair, charges £3,000 an hour for helicopter flights.

Sir Paul, 70, married his 52-year-old third wife Nancy Shevell last year.

His eldest daughter Mary McCartney, has written a cookbook on vegetarian dishes.

His spokesman declined to comment.

Paul McCartney and wife two feet from disaster in helicopter drama: Pilot forced into terrifying climb after brushing tree-tops

Sir Paul McCartney and his wife were just two feet away from disaster when the pilot of their helicopter became 'disorientated' in bad weather and plunged towards trees. (on May 3, 2012)

They avoided a potentially fatal crash with just a split second to spare when the pilot dramatically lifted the chartered Sikorsky S-76C away from the rain-lashed tree tops.

The drama happened as the aircraft, with the couple on board, attempted to land at night on a helipad at their East Sussex estate.

The helicopter eventually touched down safely after diverting to a nearby airport.

It is understood that Sir Paul, 70, and his 52-year-old wife, Nancy Shevell - who have declined to comment about the incident - were unaware how close they came to crashing.

The near miss is being investigated by the Department of Transport. The Mail on Sunday can reveal that the Air Accidents Investigation Branch has categorised the episode as a 'serious incident', which it defines as 'involving circumstances indicating that an accident nearly occurred'.

According to the AAIB report, the minimum reading from the helicopter's altimeter - which measures height by focusing on a fixed point - was 'two feet'. It is understood the fixed point was the tree tops rather than the ground.

In pulling hard away, the 55-year-old pilot was forced to put immense pressure on the engine, which can itself be dangerous.

The report also reveals flying conditions that night included 'low cloudbase, poor visibility and rain'.

Despite this, the pilot pressed ahead and prepared to land on the former Beatle's helipad, which is in the corner of a field encircled by woodland.

It adds: 'While manoeuvring, the commander became disorientated and the helicopter descended towards tops of trees in the forested area to the south and west of the landing site.' The pilot then 'executed a go-around' or aborted landing.

The £5 million nine-seater helicopter, which weighs 5.3 tons, was chartered from Air Harrods, which describes itself as the leading London-based business aviation service provider. The firm counts Tony Blair among its clients and charges around £3,000 an hour.

Earlier in the evening, the couple had been to the Liberty department store in the West End for the launch of a vegetarian cookbook written by Sir Paul s eldest daughter Mary.

They took off from Battersea heliport in South London at 9.30pm, reaching East Sussex 25 minutes later.

Following the aborted landing, the pilot eventually landed safely after diverting to Lydd Airport in Kent, 15 miles from their home near Rye.

The report also reveals that weeks after the May 3 incident, the flight data was examined using incorrect software. This meant Air Harrods was unaware the helicopter had exceeded its limitations and a 'maintenance' inspection was required.

It prompted the AAIB - which makes no judgment on blame in accidents and serious incidents - to issue a safety recommendation about the software.

The report does not mention the helicopter's speed at the time of the incident, although some experts suggested it may have been about 60mph. The Sikorsky's maximum cruising speed is 178mph.

Peter Norton, chief executive of the British Helicopter Association, last night described the incident as 'alarming'.

He said: 'He [the pilot] was going to land and realised he wasn't in control of the aircraft because of the weather conditions and visibility; he pulled in lots of power to climb away and correct the aircraft to its proper flightpath and missed whatever it was by two feet.'

The Air Harrods pilot thought to have been at the controls during the incident lives in Hertfordshire with his family.

He told a reporter yesterday: 'I can't say anything.' His company declined to say whether he faced disciplinary action.

As well as executive travel, the S-76C twin-engine helicopter is used for search and rescue missions.

On its website, Dawn Wyatt, Air Harrods's operations manager, says: 'The beauty of helicopter travel is that you really can be picked up from a suitable local site, possibly your own garden, if it is big enough. This negates the need for airports and all the associated hassle they entail.'

Elsewhere, the website says: 'Throughout the past ten years, the Air Harrods fleet has been constantly updated to ensure that our customers have the very best and latest machines available; today we have the finest examples of VIP helicopters.

'Air Harrods's future looks set to continue the long established statement of quality, safety, comfort and style.'

A spokesman for Air Harrods said: 'Harrods Aviation can confirm that an incident took place on May 3 involving an Air Harrods helicopter.

'We are working in full cooperation with the AAIB which are currently investigating the incident.'

Last night Sir Paul's spokesman said: 'Paul has been spoken to. It has been put to him, everything. It's a no comment.'

'This Is 40' Soundtrack Includes Paul McCartney, Yoko Ono

It's not every day that Paul McCartney and Yoko Ono work on the same project, but music fans have Judd Apatow to thank for making just that happen. The two music legends have both contributed songs to the soundtrack for Apatow's "This Is 40," joining a stellar line-up that includes Paul Simon, Fiona Apple, Ryan Adams, Norah Jones and many more.

Ono's song is called "I'm Your Angel" while McCartney's is titled "Lunch Box Odd Sox." The latter tune was first released in 1980 as a bonus track on a Wings album, as NME notes.

The two recently made headlines when McCartney said that Ono was not to blame for The Beatles' breakup, refuting a long-standing rumor. (He did, however, say that it was difficult to always have her around.)

"Dull Tool," Apple's contribution to the soundtrack, marks the first time the singer has crafted an original song for a film.

"This Is 40" is the sequel to "Knocked Up" and features an ensemble cast that includes Megan Fox, Lena Dunham, Jason Segel, Paul Rudd and Chris O'Dowd. The movie's score was written by on Brion and Graham Parker. The film lands in theaters on Dec. 21, but the soundtrack is available Dec. 11 on Capitol Records.

Paul showed up first at 5:14pm and then was looking for the other band members who weren't there. They started showing up one by one and Paul joked "this is like a reality show," which got laughs.

Paul was in great voice and very animated. He read signs in the audience several times and interacted with the crowd. He especially liked one sign from a couple that read -- they named their child Jude because of the song. Paul said that the actor Jude Law was also named after the song.

During "And I Love Her" Rusty messed up the guitar solo. When the song finished Paul said that Rusty never goofs up the solo but did this time and will have to do it over. So he made Rusty do the solo over again.

The band wasn't as tight. Some of the songs like Back In The USSR, Paul kept singing when the chorus was supposed to end. The band looked confused but followed. The same thing happened with Band On The Run.

Paul messed up the lyrics on "The Long And Winding Road" singing "the wild and windy rain" instead of "the wild and windy night".

No fans were brought up on the stage at either the sound check or concert.

During "The Abbey Road Medley" Paul slipped and fell as he ran down from the grand piano. He popped right back up with a smile. After the song he joked about the deliberate mistake that he made during the song.

More details to be added...  "
