Sir Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen silenced by noise curfew

Bruce Springsteen and Sir Paul McCartney were silenced by organisers of a London concert this weekend due to a sound 'curfew'.

The two singers had been performing in Hyde Park on Saturday evening when their microphones were cut off.

Sir Paul had joined Springsteen on stage at the Hard Rock Calling music festival following a performance by the American rock star that had lasted more than three hours.

The US singer greeted Sir Paul saying "I've been waiting for this for 50 years", according to members of the audience.

But after singing two Beatles hits ("I Saw Her Standing There" and "Twist and Shout")both performers were forced to leave the stage in silence after their sound equipment was turned off - meaning they were unable to thank the audience.

The three-day event has a nightly noise curfew imposed at 10.30pm and Springsteen, who had been playing with his E Street Band, was due to play only from 7pm until 10.15pm.  "

New U2 Album in 2013, Mercury Records Says

Mercury Records, which is U2's label in the UK, has apparently announced that U2 will release its next album in 2013. The news was reported a few hours ago in a pair of tweets by the London-based Music Week.

Iley is a friend of U2's going back many years. In fact, U2 left Island Records in the UK for Mercury Records in part, the story goes, because the band wanted to continue working with him. So, he would seem to know what he's talking about.

I'd just add this caution: U2's record labels have previously announced when new albums would be released, and U2 has sometimes missed those target dates (think Pop). Mercury may expect a new album next year, but U2 generally decides when it's ready to put out a new album, whether the label likes it or not.

Still not bored of the attention! Paul McCartney is mobbed by fans as he leaves restaurant... but it doesn't look like he minds

He was one quarter of the most successful band of all time.

So you would think that Sir Paul McCartney would be a little jaded when it comes to excessive attention from fans by now.

However the 70-year-old looked more than happy to indulge his admirers last night as he left the Cecconi restaurant in Mayfair.

The star had enjoyed dinner with his wife Nancy Shevell and Bruce Springsteen and his wife Patti Scialfa.

The fans were so excited to see Paul that they made it nearly impossible for him to reach his car.

Paul was gracious as he posed for photos, despite the obvious inconvenience.

He signed with his hands to say everything was fine as he finally made it to his car.

The singer had certainly had a bothersome night, having been silenced midway through an appearance on stage with Springsteen earlier in the evening.

Bruce's microphone was cut off at the end of his headlining slot at Hard Rock Calling in Hyde Park last night when he broke the sound curfew.

The legendary singer had been playing for more than three hours when he was joined on stage by Sir Paul McCartney for an encore.

However, the musical veterans both found their microphones silenced before they could address the crowds as it became clear they had defied the strict curfew by half an hour.

Before the subdued ending, the pair had delighted the crowds by collaborating on the final two songs of Springsteen's 29 song set, I Saw Her Standing There and Twist and Shout.

Paul McCartney's New Album to Be Produced by Mark Ronson

Rumors are circulating that Paul McCartney has hired Mark Ronson to produce his new album. Adding fuel to the fire, the two were recently spotted at a New York studio working together.

A source told the Sunday Mirror about the studio session, "This week they went to the studio and started knocking about together to see what they can do together. Everybody's really excited about the prospect of Mark working with Paul."

The source also added, "Paul respects Mark's knowledge and is wanting to produce a classic album with a young hip edge. And obviously Mark is over the moon to be working with a Beatle." The new album will reportedly be more contemporary as opposed to McCartney's previous record, "Kisses on the Bottom", which featured jazz covers.

Ronson has previously worked with Adele, Christina Aguilera and Lily Allen among other big names. In 2008, he won a Grammy for Producer of the Year for his work with Amy Winehouse on the album "Back to Black." In more recent events, he is credited for bringing back a more '80s feel to Duran Duran's "All You Need is Now" album.

McCartney performed in London with Bruce Springsteen on Saturday, July 13 but their performance was cut short. Springsteen had already gone past the curfew by half an hour when McCartney popped up onstage to perform "I Saw Her Standing There" and "Twist and Shout", both tracks from The Beatles.

The singer and producer met at McCartney's wedding to Nancy Shevell in 2011 where Ronson was the DJ.  "

Joey, when will jb accept that top gross is simply out of reach?

U2 has hired Blitz, a Los Angeles-based digital advertising agency, to create some kind of "digital application."

The Los Angeles Times let the cat out of the bag a couple days ago in an article about Southern California ad agencies that are working heavily in the web and mobile space. You can read the full article here; the brief U2 mention is on page two:

Blitz currently is working on a digital application for the Irish rock band U2.

Blitz's website also lists U2 on its Clients page.

In an Irish Times interview last year, Bono talked about U2's next album having some kind of app version.

Earlier, he was using an iPad with the Achtung Baby songs and videos on it. "That's probably what our new album will look like," he says. "I've been talking about this for the past four years.

"Our last album was the first album to be made available as an app with BlackBerry devices, but it didn't work: the functionality was not what it could have been. New formats are going to happen. I'm always banging on about this. The app format brings you back to that world of gatefold sleeves, of being able to read lyrics – and [now of] being able to play the album at home on your plasma TV."

Prior to that, there was also app-related talk in 2010 while U2 was on tour in Europe. An Italian newspaper included this quote from an unspecified band member:

We are planning to release our next record as an application. Today, with laptops, iphone and ipad music can go back to being a visual phenomenon.

jb set to return in 2013...

As I mentioned in a previous post back in January 2012 about a 2013 album release, Mercury Records has confirmed that U2 will be releasing a new album next year!   This is news that we've been waiting for.

Here on in, the slow drip of rumours will trickle into the public sphere.  Next, barely coherent fan recordings of demos being played by Bono outside of his French summer home will emerge.  We'll hear of stories from lucky fans who were picked up in Bono's Maserati as they stood outside of U2's recording studio in Dublin, and were treated with a preliminary listen to the new album.

Afterward, an album single will be leaked on the internet, and then the whole record will appear on the web a few weeks before the actual release - prompting a debate between purists (who will wait until the official release) and insatiable fans (who desire anything U2 related as soon as possible) about the merits of downloading leaked material.  Then there will be the actual album release, and hopefully followed by a pre-tour starting in the fall (2013) in small and unexpected venues.  Die-hard fans will begin to renew their U2.com memberships to gain access to pre-sale tickets at the same time.  Details for venues and tour dates will permeate and a tour to be confirmed in the winter (2014).  We will begin to draw up a tour schedule ourselves and picking out which cities to visit on the first leg of the tour and start booking accommodation and flights accordingly.  Once the tour hits the ground, and we are in the GA line for that first concert, I'll look back on today, and remember the one line in that gigwise.com article which prompted this posting, "Mercury Records also confirmed new albums from Metallica, U2 and Noah and the Whale, which will all contribute towards a good year [2013] for the record label."

Those on the outside may think this is strange behaviour.  For us, this is normal every four years!  I can't wait for 2013...

Arlen to Nancy: He's A Keeper

The honey-pie phase continues for His Royal Beatleness, Paul McCartney, and his blushing bride, Nancy Shevell. The rock legend is building Nancy, 51, whom he married in October, a new home. "Paul is renovating a penthouse condo in Winter Park, Fla., for Nancy," a source tells Star.

The 70-year-old music icon already has homes in London, Arizona, East Hampton, N.Y., Beverly Hills, East Sussex in the U.K. and New York CIty. But this abode has a special meaning-it's close to Nancy's son, Arlen, who's is a student at nearby Rollins College. "He's graduating in 2014," the source said. "So he'll be there for at least two more years. Paul knows how important Arlen is to Nancy, and he wanted her to be as happy as possible."

Nancy clearly brought a new level of happiness to her bighearted hubby since going through a draining divorce from Heather Mills.

"Paul is in such a good place in his relationship," the source continued. "He wants to be the perfect husband to Nancy." We'll just assume Sir Paul is motivated by love-not the desire to make Heather jealous of his largess.  "

If I'm feeling down, and I want to feel a little better, there are two ways to heal: listening to Macca or to the Ramones (the Kinks and the Rolling Stones are also handy, or Sly Stone --great stuff--.) And you know where the Ramones got their name from.

" We know that Paul McCartney is taking part in the Summer 2012 Olympic Games by closing out the Opening Ceremonies, but his interest in the games is not just in passing.

The onetime Beatle has taken to his Twitter account to offer a photo posting and a supportive message for the athletes as the ceremonies near. The singer stated, "All of us wish our U.K. teams in the Olympics and Paralympics the very best of luck. We hope they enjoy this great competition and create great memories for themselves and us all and at the same time bring home a bagful of lovely medals. All the best, Paul McCartney."

The singer will take part in the 'Isles of Wonder' production that will open the Summer Games. 'Slumdog Millionaire' filmmaker Danny Boyle is directing the event, but many of the details are being kept under wraps. The one thing that is known is that McCartney will close out the production.

In addition to the official ceremony, there will also be Olympic Games opening performances from Duran Duran, Snow Patrol, Stereophonics, and Paolo Nutini. The closing ceremonies will feature headliners the Who, with comedian Russell Brand and music acts Take That, Emeli Sande, Annie Lennox, George Michael, Ray Davies, the Pet Shop Boys and Madness taking part.  "

" July 22, 2012 -- Daily Star (UK)

SIR PAUL McCARTNEY TO PERFORM FOR JUST £1($1.56)

Musi superstars including Sir Paul McCartney and One Direction are being paid £1 to sing at the Olympic opening and closing ceremonies.

All of the headlining acts will pocket the minute nominal fee to appear, regardless of fame or status.

Performers such as Jessie J, George Michael, and Take That will initially be out of pocket as they still have to pay full rates for their band, backing singers, make-up artists and crew.

Our source said: "Macca could earn up to £1million ($1.5 million) for a one-off gig but even he is being paid a token pound coin.

"But with four billion people watching around the world, potential earnings from record sales could be huge."

All acts will have to sing live thanks to a condition in their Olympics contracts. "

" Music heard coming from the stadium in recent days ranges from "Jerusalem" - of course - to songs by The Beatles, The Who, the Sex Pistols, and Vangelis' theme from "Chariots of Fire."

There are also songs by newer acts, including Dizzee Rascal and Tinie Tempah, two homegrown stars forged in the gritty London environment that Boyle is celebrating.

The final act will be former Beatle Paul McCartney - due to lead the audience ( with jb attending ) in a sing-along of "Hey Jude," with thousands of voices urging "take a sad song and make it better."

Joey, why is jb boycotting the Olympics?

A moment of silence is currently creating a clamor. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is resisting a proposal for Friday’s opening ceremonies in London to remember the 11 Israeli athletes killed in Munich 40 years ago by Palestinian terrorists. The committee should reconsider.

The 1972 Munich Olympics were a watershed in the quadrennial games. Politics had long played a role in this international sporting event, but never with such brutality. The fact that the slain athletes were Israelis may play an uncomfortably large role in the IOC’s decision-making, but fear of complaints from Israel’s enemies should not prevent the committee from doing the right thing.
