Bono Reportedly to Perform in Brazil in June
Posted: March 12, 2012
By: m2 / @mattmcgee

Newspaper reports in Brazil say that Bono will give a free performance this June on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro. According to a report on Terra.com.br, citing the O Dia newspaper, Bono will perform June 24th during an event associated with the Rio+20 United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development. The report says that other musicians will also be involved, but it's "almost certain" that the rest of U2 will not be involved in the concert.

Thanks to @ultravioletu2 for the tip via Twitter.

Topless JB  ...... ?!  ... !!!!!!!!! :

" March 16, 2012 -- Daily Mail (UK)

Sir Paul McCartney passes the perfect gent test: Former Beatle maintains eye contact in chat with topless sunbather

He recently grumbled that he can't go anywhere without being interrupted by a fan wielding a camera.

However, one devotee appears not to have been told.

As the sunseeker sprang to his feet at the sight of Sir Paul McCartney, he obviously forgot about his topless female companion who tried in vain to cover her modesty.

Adding to her embarrassment, the tall sunbather was then beckoned over, still topless, and tasked with taking photos of the star with her friends, while his new wife Nancy Shevell looked on.

The ageing rocker and U.S. industrial heiress -- who wed last October - were taking a short break in the tropical island of St Barts in the Caribbean.

Sir Paul, 69, remained the consummate gentleman in the awkward situation -- maintaining eye contact throughout lest his wife spot them wandering --as he engaged in polite conversation with the young brunette.

While his wife, 51, opted for a more conservative outfit than the sunbather, wearing a long-sleeved white beach dress with straw trilby.

The young woman wore tiny string bikini bottoms but attempted to keep some of her modesty intact by covering herself with her arms.

She was with two male friends who were equally excited to meet the music legend.

One of her friends posed for a photograph with the former Beatle, who was wearing colourful pair of swimming shorts, a brown T-shirt and matching baseball cap. They used a camera-phone to take the photograph.

The star posed up just days after he publicly bemoaned the attention he receives from members of the public, especially those who use their mobile phones to take pictures of him.

He told a Swiss newspaper earlier this month: 'Sometimes I want to have a peaceful evening with my wife in a restaurant without every few seconds having to pose for a mobile phone photograph.

'And increasingly people just don't seem to understand that. That sometimes causes unpleasant scenes.

'But I don't want to complain. People like these have given me an enormous amount of happiness. And for that I'm very grateful. I won't ever forget what I owe them all.'

After the unusual beach encounter the couple took to the sea, frolicking in the waves.

And five months into their marriage the pair certainly seem to be firmly stuck in the honeymoon period as they laughed and joked with each other.

Indeed, at one point he took his wife's hand and affectionately gazed at her wedding ring while they went for dip.

It was the couple's second trip in as many weeks after taking in the Paris Fashion Week to support Sir Paul's daughter Stella.  "

On The Run In Mexico

Nearly two years to the day after setting the record for the fastest-selling show in the country's history, Paul McCartney will return to Mexico for his current On The Run tour's first date in the territory: Tuesday May 8th at Azteca Stadium in Mexico City.

The Mexico City date will be Paul's first visit to Mexico since his Up And Coming Tour in 2010. It was the first of that tour's two shows at Mexico City's Foro Sol Stadium on the May 27th 2010 that shattered records, as 960,000 tickets were snapped up in within mere minutes of going on sale. Sources at Ticketmaster Mexico speculated that tickets could have gone even more quickly had technology been able to keep up with the overwhelming demand. A second show was added on May 28th 2010 and both shows instantly became the stuff of local legend, along with Paul's 2002 three-night stand at the Palacio de los Deportes and his first visit on 1993's New World Tour, and deservedly so. It's unlikely that Mexico will ever experience such enthusiastic singalongs and impressive synchronized cigarette lighter work again--that is, until Paul returns in May! "

New 2012 Tour Dates Announced & Ticket Info; Uruguay, Mexico & Brazil

Last year saw Paul make headline news when he brought his epic Up and Coming tour to a dramatic finale with two massive stadium shows in Rio, Brazil playing to over 100,000 people. His 'Up and Coming' tour was seen by nearly half a million people across South America over a handful of special dates. Makeshift fan-made McCartney villages sprung up everywhere the tour went, with fans celebrating the music and life of Paul as they camped outside stadiums days in advance waiting for the doors to open to get the best possible positions inside the venues. Following weeks of excited speculation and internet rumours, today Paul confirms that he is taking his new 'On The Run' tour to South America this April.

On April 15th, Paul will make his first ever visit to Uruguay. If previous visits are anything to go by, Montevideo can expect to make headline news. Paul has played a truly staggering range of venues and locations. From pub gigs to huge outdoor parks and stadiums; Paul has even played into Space, outside the Coliseum in Rome, in Moscow's Red Square and at the White House to name just a few. In recent years, Paul's live shows have even acquired a new legendary status, garnering unprecedented reviews from fans and critics alike wherever he goes.

Paul will also be returning to Brazil with a show in Florianopolis on April 25th, almost exactly twelve months since his last visit, which brought Rio to a standstill and saw over 1.5 million people tune in online to watch the first ever concert to be broadcast live on the internet across South America.

Nearly two years to the day after setting the record for the fastest-selling show in the country's history, Paul will then return to Mexico for the tour's first date in the territory; Saturday 5th May at Estadio Omnilife in Guadalajara. The Guadalajara date will be Paul's first visit to Mexico since his Up And Coming Tour in 2010. It was the first of that tour's two shows at Mexico City's Foro Sol Stadium on the 27th May 2010 that shattered records, as 60,000 tickets were snapped up in within mere minutes of going on sale. Sources at Ticketmaster Mexico speculated that tickets could have gone even more quickly had technology been able to keep up with the overwhelming demand. A second show was added on 28th May 2010 and both shows instantly became the stuff of local legend, along with Paul's 2002 three-night stand at the Palacio de los Deportes and his first visit on 1993's New World Tour, and deservedly so. It's unlikely that Mexico will ever experience such enthusiastic sing-a-longs and impressive synchronized cigarette lighter work again - that is, until Paul returns in May!

The epic three- hour show features music that spans Paul's entire career and unique back catalogue. Speaking about the forthcoming show Paul said:

"I love South America. We've had such fun there on our recent visits. The people and audiences are so passionate and musical. The enthusiasm is mind blowing and we are looking forward to getting back out there to play and party!"

Over fifty years into his career, he continues to push boundaries, perform to millions and make global news with countless monumental shows.

Ticket information for the other shows will be added shortly.

From Bother Jb   ............................   :

" The Playbook for an Israeli Airstrike on Iran's Nuclear Facilities
John Hudson Feb 21, 2012
Thanks to a host of military analysts, cartographers, and TV graphics departments, we have plenty of ideas about how an Israeli airstrike on Iran's nuclear facilities would be carried out.

The latest hypothetical rendering came in a New York Times article Monday, in which Pentagon officials cast serious doubts about Israel's capability of pulling off the attack. "Its pilots would have to fly more than 1,000 miles across unfriendly airspace, refuel in the air en route, fight off Iran’s air defenses, attack multiple underground sites simultaneously — and use at least 100 planes," wrote Elisabeth Bumiller.

But while that rough sketch is generally agreed upon, a number of other geographic and tactical factors also come into play and have been mapped out. Put together, you have a dispassionate, calculated atlas of what such a conflict would look like.

The simplest map we've seen is a Fox News graphic outlining the four most widely discussed nuclear target areas: Arak, Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan. On Monday night, Greta Van Susteren spoke with Major General Bob Scales who said, "This is gonna take days, maybe weeks, [and] the enemy's going to fight back."

What will the Israelis be aiming for? The Center for Strategic and International Studies has mapped out a comprehensive chart of the various nuclear sites and what is known about them:

As we've seen in Iran and Israel's shadow wars thus far, their disputes have spread out across a range of countries (today, we're hearing more about Azerbaijan). An airstrike would also embroil a handful of Israel's neighbors, depending on what airspace the country should choose to invade. In 2009 Reuters mapped out three routes (north, central and south) for carrying out the attack. Whatever the method, it looks as though jamming radars and dodging potential anti-aircraft munitions will be on the agenda.

Then of course, there's the weaponry involved. Equilibri, a European think tank that analyzes events and international dynamics, has outlined the air and sea power involved in a likely attack, which include 20 F-15s, 20 F-16s, 22-26 F15 C/Ds and F-16-Ds, 7 tanker KC-707/135s, and 2 dolphin class-submarines to enter the Gulf of Oman. (Other estimates say at least 100 planes are needed)

Of course, any invasion would also take into effect Iran's missile sites, which CSIS has rendered here:

One of the main targets, and most difficult, is the underground plant near the city of Qom. On Monday, the BBC reported that Iran is poised to expand its nuclear site in Qom, installing thousands of new centrifuges at the plant. According to The Times, the underground site is going to call for American-made GBU-28 5,000-pound bunker buster bombs to destroy the facilities. Here's a satellite view of Qom, courtesy CNN:

Without knowing whether Israel will actually carry out such an attack, what we can say is this would surely be one of the most pre-meditated, pre-discussed, and publicly scrutinized military campaign in recent memory.

Beatles legend Paul McCartney's fame school to rescue John Lennon's Liverpool art college from apartments plan

Sir Paul McCartney's fame school has stepped in to rescue John Lennon's world-famous art college from being turned into apartments.

Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA) has struck a £3.7m ($5.9 million) deal to buy 68 Hope Street -- the Grade II-listed former art college building next door which famously houses the lecture hall where Lennon met his first wife, Cynthia.

Dating back to the 1880s, the building was destined to be turned into luxury flats as part of a controversial £100m ($159 million) Maghull Developments proposal to redevelop Liverpool's historic Hope Street.

But now the building, where art student Lennon met best friend and original Beatles bassist Stuart Sutcliffe in the 1950s, will be retained for education, thanks to the intervention of Macca's LIPA.

Sir Paul is fully behind the development.

LIPA, which opened in 1995, is housed in Sir Paul and George Harrison's old grammar school, the Liverpool Institute for Boys.

Speaking exclusively to the ECHO, principal and chief executive Mark Featherstone-Witty -- who co-founded LIPA with patron Sir Paul -- said there were sound business reasons behind the deal, beyond the "romance" of bringing two Beatles-linked buildings together.

He said the multi-storey Georgian Quarter venue provided more than 5,000 sq m of extra space, which would secure LIPA's future growth and keep it "at the forefront of performing arts institutions".

He added: "There are sound business reasons why we are buying the building next door, but there is no denying the romance of bringing together two buildings where three Beatles once did their learning.

"I am glad this historic building will not become yet another boutique hotel or, yet again, be turned into flats.

It will be used for what it was intended learning.

"I have mentioned this to Paul, who is supportive."

The ECHO understands the deal was self-funded by LIPA.

Lennon attended the nearby art college between 1957-60, and legend has it that he used to play Buddy Holly covers with his band, The Quarrymen, in the college canteen.

He also liked to unwind in the nearby Ye Cracke pub.

The deal is sure to be welcomed by the area's arts community, which feared losing the building to apartments would undermine the city's cultural heritage.

Although contracts have been signed, LIPA is due to complete the purchase from Maghull Developments on Friday, March 30.

LIPA currently trains 693 degree and 62 foundation certificate students, as well as offering part-time performing arts classes for young people through its youth academy "

Paul McCartney Launches The Meat Free Monday Cookbook

52 Weekly Menus Feed Meatless Monday Movement

Starting today, Meatless Monday fans will get a year of enticing menus from one of the movement's most famous supporters. Sir Paul McCartney, along with his daughters Stella and Mary, are launching The Meat Free Monday Cookbook (Kyle Books), which features menu ideas for every Monday of the year, from packed lunches to comforting stews. The colorful hard-cover book features favorite recipes from the McCartneys along with contributions from some of their famous friends, including Mario Batali, Woody Harrelson, Vivienne Westwood, Kevin Spacey and Pink.

"We applaud the McCartney family's unwavering efforts to promote a healthier, more sustainable diet," said Sid Lerner, who founded Meatless Monday in 2003 with Johns Hopkins. "This beauty of a cookbook is truly a delicious way to help spread the global Meatless Monday movement!"

McCartney started Meat-Free Monday in the UK in 2009 as a simple and straightforward idea to show everyone the environmental value of eating less meat. Meatless Monday has since blossomed into a global movement, with 22 countries promoting the idea of cutting out meat once a week for our health and the health of the planet.

"We feel that the vast majority of people are conscientious and would want to do something in their own lives to help secure a happier future for the generations that follow," the McCartneys said of their decision to launch the campaign and do the cookbook. "While many solutions can be quite difficult to put into practice, the idea of one meat-free day per week is something that many people find do-able and something that can be achieved relatively easily," McCartney said.

Individuals interested in starting a Meatless Monday in the US can visit www.MeatlessMonday.com to learn more about the benefits of cutting back, get information kits to spread the movement in their community, and discover the growing international network of supporters.

Super Vegetable Salad by Paul McCartney Recipe excerpted from The Meat Free Monday Cookbook (Kyle Books; 2012)

Serves 4

28 cherry tomatoes, 3 florets of broccoli,12 green beans, cut into 1 inch lengths, 2 carrots, peeled and sliced into 1 inch pieces, 1 lettuce -- I like Romaine, 3 scallions, finely chopped, 2/3 cup cornmeal, a handful of chopped herbs of your choice, 9 ounces tofu, cut into slices, olive oil for frying

Dressing

2 tablespoons olive oil1 tablespoon red wine vinegar1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)1 teaspoon maple syrup (if you like a bit of sweetness)

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F and roast the cherry tomatoes for 10 minutes.

Cover the bottom of a pan with cold water and place a steamer above it. Put the broccoli, green beans, and carrots in the steamer, turn the heat on quite high, and steam for about 15 minutes, occasionally prodding the carrots with a fork to see if they are done. Some people like them slightly crunchy, others prefer them a little softer.

While the vegetables are steaming, make a salad with the leaves and scallions.

Combine the cornmeal and herbs in a bowl. Heat some olive oil in a frying pan. Dip the tofu in the cornmeal mixture, then fry until golden.

Whisk together the ingredients for the dressing, but only pour over at the last minute.

Assemble your meal by first putting the salad on the plate, then the warm vegetables, and finally the tofu. Pour over the dressing then add a little seasoning sauce or a sauce of your choice.  "

Adam Clayton & Dallas Schoo confirm: U2 is in the studio
Posted: March 22, 2012
By: Matt McGee / @mattmcgee

I was a bit skeptical when an Irish Independent article yesterday mentioned that U2 is working on its next album, but this sounds much more re-assuring: Adam Clayton appeared on Irish radio on Tuesday of this week, mainly to talk about the Walk In My Shoes campaign that he's supporting. But, according to U2place.com, he also briefly mentioned what the band is doing at the moment:

"We are working on the next album. According to Bono, it may be published tomorrow but I think it will take a little longer."

Meanwhile, Dallas Schoo, The Edge's longtime guitar tech, apparently sent a note to Sadowsky Guitars confirming that "U2 is in the studio." The guitar company posted Dallas' note on Facebook:

Just received this report from Dublin, where U2 is in the studio...

Just a heads up on how wonderful your 4 basses are....beautiful instruments and so much "weight" and deep tone with a very light weight bass......amazing. The Will Lee is killer and the PJs so balanced. Adam has been tracking away and not having to break the momentum dialing in his sound.....Just a very good marriage of effortless tone that seems inherent with the overall design. The entire band and the production team could not be happier.

Nice one,
Dallas Schoo/U2

Macca's cancer mission

Sir Paul McCartney has re-arranged his world tour to bring his arena show to a charity concert in London on Thursday night.

The Beatles man booked extra shows on the Continent this week so he could easily get to London for the Teenage Cancer Trust event at the Royal Albert Hall, avoiding costly disruption to his tour.

The Who's Roger Daltrey, organising the annual charity event, said: "Sir Paul has been brilliant. We almost got him last year but he couldn't make the date work.

"He said, 'I'll be there for you next year, Rog' -- and here he is.

"He did a few extra shows in Europe to make it work so no one had to foot the bill of getting his show here -- and that means a lot.

"To see his full arena show in the Albert Hall will be a once-in-a-lifetime thing.

"He's the most iconic figure in the world."

Good on Macca -- it's a great cause.

Paul brought Zurich to a standstill last night with a staggering show at the city's Hallenstadion, which saw fans travel from across Switzerland for the much-anticipated concert.

Performing on an immense stage, Paul ensured the wait had been well worth it as he played an incredible set list that spanned his entire career, featuring highlights from The Beatles, Wings and his unrivalled solo material including tracks from his latest album 'Kisses On The Bottom'.
