Joey, don't forget Sukkot! The Festival of Sukkot begins on Tishri 15, the fifth day after Yom Kippur. It is quite a drastic transition, from one of the most solemn holidays in our year to one of the most joyous.

" October 13, 2011 -- Liverpool Echo (UK)

Sir Paul McCartney tickets for Liverpool ECHO Arena gig sell out in two hours leaving fans disappointed

Sir Paul McCartney's Christmas return to Liverpool sold out within two hours after "unprecedented" demand.

But the huge response to the ECHO arena concert in December left some fans who had queued for hours disappointed and ticketless.

Around 40 people were turned away in the arena's busiest ever ticket sale, outstripping Oasis, with almost 1m hits on the official website and 100,000 attempted phone calls.

Today profiteers were already trying to make a quick buck, demanding up to £1,200 ($1,891) a pair on eBay for tickets originally priced at £50 ($78), £75 ($118) and £95 ($150).

Macca devotees began queuing early Wednesday afternoon, with around 50 bringing tents and sleeping bags to camp out overnight at the arena. At least 250 more joined throughout the night and early morning.

The vast majority of tickets -- limited to four per person -- sold out within an hour.

Dominique Smith, 28, from Kirkby, was among the last to secure tickets at the Box Office.

She said: "I've dragged my three friends along with me and we've been here since 5.30am. I should have been in work at 8am but I've taken holiday leave to be here.

"I'll be gutted if I can't get tickets, I think I'll cry."

When the girls eventually got to the front of the queue they were told the only remaining tickets were the expensive ones at £95.

The same happened to Dave Halpin, 19, a student from Formby.

He said: "We wanted the £75 ones but they were all sold out by the time we got to the front of the queue. It doesn't really seem fair since we were in the queue from about 7am but I'm just relieved we managed to get some.

"A few people around us were annoyed that they couldn't get the cheaper tickets. One guy couldn't afford the extra but his mate lent him some money."

Tim Banfield, general manager of the ECHO arena, said they had tried hard to strike a successful balance.

He said: "We try very hard to meet the demands of all our customers whether on-line, over the phones and in person at the Box Office across all ticket prices, however tickets are sold on a first come first served basis and due to the popularity of the artist the event sold out very quickly and some customers will have been left disappointed.

"It's Paul McCartney and it's Liverpool so we didn't expect anything other than massive demand and a sell-out."

By 11.30am the only queue reminder was a cleaner sweeping up debris.

He said: "It doesn't seem right that people have been queuing up all night and some have been turned away without tickets., while others have been buying them online and over the phone. Surely the people who made the effort to get down here should have been given priority. But there were many happy faces.

Jenny Clark from Aintree said: "We joined the queue at 11pm last night and it turned into a bit of a party, we haven't slept at all.

"The time has gone so fast and we're really thrilled to have got the tickets."

The ECHO arena has warned people to beware of fake re-selling of tickets and only buy from box offices featuring a Society of Ticket Agents and Retailers (STAR) kitemark.  "

" Sir Paul McCartney has whisked new bride Nancy to the private island of Mustique for their honeymoon.

Locals believe the Beatle has borrowed Rolling Stone Mick Jagger's luxury villa on the West Indies paradise island, where the rich and famous have holidayed in total seclusion since the bands' heyday in the 1960s.

The Japanese-inspired beachfront mansion, called Stargroves, normally costs £10,000 ($15,796) a week.

One islander told the Sunday Mirror yesterday: "Sir Paul is a regular visitor to Mustique and has stayed before at the home of Mr Jagger.

"He loves the privacy the island offers and there is no better place to spend a honeymoon. Everyone will just leave them to enjoy their special time together. "

Sir Paul, 69, and Nancy Shevell, 51, who married at Westminster Register Office last Sunday, landed on Mustique late on Friday after flying from London via St Lucia.

They are thought to have immediately headed to Stargroves for a four-day break. They will then leave for a post-wedding party with Nancy's family in New York.

Mustique -- a paparazzi-free island-- became a haven for celebrities after Princess Margaret began holidaying there with pal Lord Glenconner.

It has been a regular holiday spot for Sir Paul, but despite his huge wealth he has not bothered to buy a property there himself.

Jagger s six-bedroom retreat is named after his former Hampshire home where the Stones recorded tracks for classic albums including Sticky Fingers and It's Only Rock n Roll.

The sprawling villa overlooking L'Ansecoy Bay has stunning views of nearby islands, a hot tub in the master bedroom with its own sea views, plus a butler and private chef to prepare Sir Paul s favourite vegetarian meals, which are served in an open-air pavilion.

There s a 25ft swimming pool, a pond filled with giant Koi carp, and a floodlit tennis court as well as a pale-pink games room complete with a pool table in matching pink baize.

And down on the white sandy beach Sir Paul and Nancy, who are both fitness fanatics -- they even went to the gym together on the morning of their wedding -- have their own personal watersports instructor to take them jet-skiing.

Although the villa can be hired by anyone with the cash, guests have to provide their names, addresses and occupations to be personally vetted by Jagger himself. In the evenings, if the couple decide to venture out they can head to the island's famous Basil's Bar.

Run by Basil Charles, it has become a popular spot for celebrities such as Kate Moss, David Bowie and Liam Gallagher, all regulars on Mustique.

It is also a favourite of Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge, who have joined in karaoke sessions and are so fond of owner Basil that they invited him to their Royal Wedding.

Last night, Basil told the Sunday Mirror: "I've not seen Sir Paul yet but he's been in a few times in the past.

"Everyone would love to see him and Nancy and raise a glass to the happy couple. I met them in February the last time they were here and they seemed so happy together."

He added: "You never know he might even sing a song or two, which would be lovely."

The island, which is leased from the St. Vincent government, has 63 privately-owned villas and people are allowed to visit only with the express permission of one of the owners.

Patrolling security teams keep any unwelcome visitors away. But the undoubted attraction for guests are the secluded beaches.

With clear blue sea and all-year sunshine on the island, they are among the best in the world.

Details of the honeymoon come seven days after Macca exchanged vows with American heiress Nancy at the register office in Central London.

Nancy was showered with confetti by fans as she and Sir Paul emerged as husband and wife. It was a far cry from his second marriage to Heather at a private castle and his first wedding to Linda Eastman in 1969, when screaming girl fans chased the wedding car in tears. The honeymoons were a world away too -- with Linda, Sir Paul spent a fortnight in New York, while he and Heather went to a five-star Seychelles eco-resort.

Sir Paul's latest wedding was a family affair. His son James was best man, daughter Mary designed the menu and took the official photographs, and fashion queen Stella designed the bride's dress.

EMOTIONAL

Father-of-five Sir Paul used his website to pay tribute to everyone who sent goodwill messages, saying: "Nancy and I want to thank everybody for the wonderful greetings and messages of goodwill that we received.

"We had a really great day with family and friends; it was relaxed, fun, emotional, heartfelt and a total pleasure for the two of us and everyone involved."

Mother-of-one Nancy, was first married to US politician Bruce Blakeman, 53. The pair have a son, Arlen, 19. "

Early Paul McCartney Letter Offers Drummer Tryout
Posted Mon Oct 17, 2011 3:14pm PDT by Gregory Katz, Associated Press in Stop The Presses!

LONDON (AP) -- Somewhere, an aging drummer (identity unknown) is probably still kicking himself. A newly discovered letter found folded in a book at a Liverpool yard sale has shed new light on the Beatles' early days, revealing that Paul McCartney offered an audition to a mystery drummer in 1960, just a few days before the band left for a formative two-month gig in Hamburg, Germany.

The letter, to be auctioned next month by Christie's, has surprised Beatles scholars. It was written two years before the band bounced drummer Pete Best in favor of Ringo Starr, who arrived just in time to help the Beatles' conquer first England and then the world, earning untold millions along the way.

The Aug. 12, 1960 letter handwritten by McCartney offers an audition to someone who had advertised their availability in the Liverpool Echo newspaper four days earlier. The unsigned ad said simply: "Drummer--Young--Free."

McCartney, who was then playing guitar in the band while the late Stuart Sutcliffe handled bass guitar, offered the drummer an audition with the caveat that if he joins the band he must be ready to travel almost immediately to Hamburg. The Beatles honed their musical chops playing at low-rent clubs in the German's city's famed red-light district.

"Expenses paid 18 pounds per week (approx) for two months," McCartney writes. "If interested ring Jacaranda club."

The letter is signed, "Yours sincerely, Paul McCartney of the BEATLES."

It is not known if the drummer came for an audition, and failed to impress McCartney and the others, or if he simply didn't followup. McCartney addressed the letter "Dear Sir," assuming the drummer was a young man, as there were very few female drummers on the Liverpool rock scene at the time.

Christie's spokeswoman Leonie Pitts said the auction house's Beatles experts are certain that the letter was not an early feeler to Starr, who was a successful drummer with a rival Liverpool band, Rory Storm and the Hurricanes, before he joined the Beatles.

She said auctioneers had not contacted McCartney to ask if he knew anything about the drummer who had placed the ad.

"We think he's on his honeymoon," she said. McCartney married U.S. heiress Nancy Shevell eight days ago. His representatives did not immediately return an AP request for comment.

Christie's auction house said Monday the letter would likely draw more than 7,000 pounds ($11,000) when it is sold Nov. 15 along with other pop memorabilia.

The letter was discovered by a man from Liverpool who has asked to remain anonymous. The auction house said he is a devoted collector of antique coins who regularly checks yard sales.

Paul McCartney's "The Love We Make" Coming to DVD and Blu Ray

"The Love We Make," a look back at Paul McCartney and his efforts to plan and perform a benefit concert in the aftermath of the worst day in the history of New York City, is coming to DVD and Blu-Ray on December 6th.

Eagle Rock Entertainment will release the film, directed by Albert Maysles (Gimme Shelter) and Bradley Kaplan, on DVD and Blu-Ray.

Shot in stark 16 mm black and white, complete with color concert clips,"The Love We Make" juxtaposes dramatic images of "The Concert For New York City," held mere months after 9/11, with that of scenes of McCartney himself as he walks the streets of the town that his former songwriting partner, John Lennon, loved so much.

"It was an honor to be able to help New York and America at that time in its history," said McCartney of the concert. "There was a feeling of shock and fear in the air that I thought we could help alleviate with music and the fact that so many people stepped up to join us made for a very uplifting evening for us all."

Recorded in DTS-HD Master Audio, Dolby Digital 5.1 and LPCM Stereo, the 90-minute film features cameo appearances by President Bill Clinton, Mick Jagger, David Bowie, Eric Clapton, Sheryl Crow, Leonardo DiCaprio, Harrison Ford, Jay Z, Billy Joel, Elton John and many more in onstage and backstage moments.  "

" October 22, 2011 -- Daily Mail (UK)

The party continues for Paul McCartney and new wife Nancy Shevell as they hold another celebration in New York (with some special rock n roll guests)

They looked the picture of happiness when they wed in London earlier this month.

And the honeymoon period was clearly continuing for Paul McCartney and Nancy Shevell as they celebrated yet again tonight.

The 70-year-old former Beatle and his new bride stepped out at the Bowery Hotel in New York City for another evening of revelry.

Neither he nor his new wife could contain their glee tonight as they prepared to celebrate with some of the biggest names in the music industry.

The 51-year-old businesswoman wore an electric blue dress and satin jacket paired as she tucked her arm through her rocker husband's.

She accessorised with a black and white clutch, strappy black heels and her giant Cartier engagement ring.

The couple previously partied into the wee hours of the morning following their October 9 wedding at Paul's home in London.

Paul matched his outfit to Nancy's, looking dapper in a navy blue suit, blue and white striped tie and white shirt, looking his normal animated self as he arrived at the event.

The couple were joined by a slew of famous friends including Yoko Ono, widow of late Beatle John Lennon, and their son Sean.

Both mother and son arrived in hats with Yoko sporting a black top hat and Sean in a maroon number and matching bow tie.

Later, Keith Richards smiled broadly as he arrived with his wife Patti Hansen who wore a clinging black dress and black jacket.

Rolling Stone Keith wore his usual red headscarf under a grey hat which he tipped to onlookers outside the party.

Also spotted arriving at the bash were Foo Fighters singer Dave Grohl, who turned up with wife Jordyn.

Rocker Jon Bon Jovi looked smart in a black suit and grey shirt as he arrived with wife Dorothea, while singer songwriter James Taylor turned up with wife Caroline Smedvig.

Former Eagles band member Joe Walsh also was at the soiree with wife Marjorie (Bach), sister-in-law of Paul's Beatle bandmate Ringo Starr

Paul's marriage to Nancy is his third trip down the aisle after his second marriage to Heather Mills collapsed back in 2008 after four years.

They have a seven year old daughter, Beatrice, who acted as a flower girl at Paul and Nancy's nuptials last month.

Paul was previously married to Linda Eastman, who played in his post-Beatles band, Wings. She died of breast cancer in 1998 and the couple have four children.

Bono: 'We don't know what we want to do next'
Posted: October 26, 2011
By: m2 / @mattmcgee

As part of the promotion for the upcoming Achtung Baby anniversary release, U2 has been doing a lot of interviews and the subject often turns away from Achtung Baby to U2's future album plans. In a new and lengthy USA Today article, Edge says the band may start to go through the band's existing new material before the end of the year. Bono, on the other hand, continues to bang the drum about this being a time of great internal uncertainty:

"We don't know what we want to do next," he says. "It feels a bit like 1990, where we have to dig a very deep well. I'm very proud of our last album. It was very rich. I want to go airborne on the next one. But we have to have very good reasons to put out a new U2 album. There are 150 million of them out there. Why would anyone want another one? I don't know if it will be a year or five years."

Bono also makes similar comments in the new edition of Q magazine, which has U2 on the cover and that CD of other artists recording Achtung Baby songs.

I don't know if it's possible for us to make something current that is meaningful, not just to our audience but to the times we live in. But that's kind of the job for me and I'm not ready to give it up. I think it's unlikely that we'll pull it off, but then so has the last 20 years been unlikely.

Getting songs played on the radio is very important to us. I'm not sure that we'll ever be number 1 on the pop charts [again], but we need songs that go outside of our audience.

Bono's comments aside, the general consensus seems to be that U2 will pursue the work already done with Danger Mouse (as they said earlier this year), and not pursue Songs Of Ascent, the set of songs that continued themes found on No Line On The Horizon. Adam tells Q, "We thought there was more material left over from No Line... we now feel a long way from that material."

" On The Run’ dates sell out!   "

" After just a few days since announcing his brand new tour ‘On The Run’, Paul McCartney has already sold out all eleven dates with staggering speed. The tour kicks off with Paul’s first ever show in U.A.E. at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix before moving through Europe and Russia and concluding with a concert in Paul’s hometown of Liverpool.

‘On The Run’ also sees Paul returning to the O2 Arena in London, his first show there since his much talked-about performance at the venue in December 2009. His new date there sold out before lunchtime after going on sale, while concerts in Helsinki, Manchester and Liverpool all also sold out on the first day of being on sale. Incredibly, Paul’s much anticipated date in Paris sold out in just thirty seconds, while concerts in Stockholm, Bologna, Milan, Koln, Abu Dhabi and Moscow were all also snapped up within days of being available.

The lucky fans with tickets will certainly be in for a treat. Paul’s live shows are simply a once in a lifetime experience, garnering unprecedented reviews from fans and critics alike and leaving audiences breathless with a set chosen from the most respected back catalogue in music.  "

McCARTNEY SET FOR ENCORE "I DO'S" -- IN HEBREW

Last week I scooped that SIR PAUL McCARTNEY told pals he'll convert to the Jewish religion of new bride NANCY SHEVELL by next year, but here's a brand-newbombshell -- the ex-Beatle attended Yom Kippur services at a London synagogue with his beloved on the eve of their civil ceremony, and was so deeply moved by the ancient Hebrew melodies performed that after their official "I do's," he proposed all over again!

"Paul asked Nancy to marry him in a traditional religious Jewish ceremony," revealed a family source.

"He told his new bride, 'I want to say my vows to you in Hebrew.

"I want to recite the ancient prayers and become a Jewish husband.'

"Nancy was overjoyed -- and called it the best wedding gift ever!"

L'chaim!

Don't let me down, Paul - please please be Jewish like me

Maybe I'm amazed. The news broke last week that Paul McCartney is converting to Judaism. Granted, I read this this in the National Enqu-irer, so until I see Sir Paul sporting a kippah or peppering his speech with words like "bubbeleh" and "meshugginah," I will take the news with a grain of kosher salt.

Still, given that he recently married Nancy Shevell, an observant Jew, and spent Yom Kippur with her in a London synagogue, I'm betting it's true. I sure want it to be true.

Of all the things I could have ever wished for, Paul converting would not have made the list. It wouldn't have squared with that Merseyside cockiness I grew up revering.

Yet here we are, with our first Jewish Beatle. And now I feel an irresistible urge to pun. So get back:

New song suggestions for Paul might include "Matzah My Dear," "Maxwell's Silver Candlesticks" and "If I Kvell." Then there's the one song title that needs no Jewish tweaking: "Your Mother Should Know."

I always had a feeling Paul was Jew-friendly.

His first wife, the late Linda Eastman McCartney, was Jewish, which makes his children with her Jewish. In 2008, Paul refused to cave in to Israel bashers and performed live in Tel Aviv to adoring crowds.

Moreover, I doubt there has ever been a more winsome celebrity billionaire genius than Paul McCartney. Why wouldn't he like the Jews?

About 10 years ago, a lifelong friend of mine found himself at a posh London party, with Paul in attendance. My friend sheepishly approached to say hello. Paul sat him down and asked him all sorts of questions about what brought him to London.

Long story short, yada yada yada, an hour later it was my friend who started glancing at his watch and saying things like, "Would you look at the time."

If it were me, I would have been deliriously happy to chat with Paul until sunrise. Interviewing him is a dream of mine. My Beatlemania runs deep and wide.

I was 8 when the band's first single in America, "Love Me Do," came out. A year or so later, when the Beatles were the biggest thing on Earth, my friend (the same who met Paul decades later) decided we had to do something about the band "stealing all the girls." So we bought multiple packs of first-edition collectible Beatles cards and burned them in his backyard.

Oh, the humanity.

In 1964, I got my first Beatles album ("Something New"), and I was hooked. I don't think kids today can relate to the experience of waiting in line at the record store to buy a new Beatles album, rushing home and poring over every melody, lyric and square inch of the jacket. There's nothing magical about downloading from iTunes.

The Beatles' music has been my constant companion for nearly 50 years. Though not everything they did was as great as I used to think it was (I'm not a fan of the White Album), there's no denying the band's epochal impact on countless lives, mine included.

So in a way, I've felt connected to Paul nearly all my life. Does his conversion make me feel closer to him, even though he is probably doing it just to please his wife? The answer for me is: Yes, absolutely.

A Jewish Beatle means the central figure of the most important cultural phenomenon of the last half-century has taken on the same faith and value system as mine.

It means the whole world is watching. People who normally harbor suspicions about Jews and Israel may now reassess. If Judaism is good enough for Paul McCartney, maybe it's good enough for the Jews.

Part of Jewish pride is pointing to particular MOTs as emblematic of our success. Sandy Koufax, Bess Myerson, Jerry Seinfeld, all of those Nobel laureates. It feels good to claim them as our own.

And now this.

I doubt I'll ever cross paths with him, but I can't help feeling my hero is now closer to my universe. My fantasy is that he and I attend a seder together, and after dinner we finally have that all-night chat.

Next year in Liverpool.

Paul & Linda McCartney Shown Love in Nashville With 'Let Us In' Album, Concert

'Let Us In' Benefit Concert on Nov. 7 Kicks Off CMA Week, Will Feature McCartney Songs

Sir Paul McCartney. Nashville. Those two terms might be not necessarily linked at the hip. However, on Monday, those two musical giants will come together for a great cause.

On Nov. 7, at Music City's historic Ryman Auditorium, actor Jeff Daniels will host "Let Us In," a benefit that will kick off CMA Week. The show will benefit The Women and Cancer Fund is a not-for-profit charity led by Dr. Alicia Alvarez and established in the memory of Linda McCartney. Sir Paul McCartney has given his "whole-hearted blessing" to "Let Us In" Nashville, a campaign led by Reviver Music to raise awareness and proceeds for this charity which promotes prevention, lifestyle awareness, enhances available health services and advocates advanced breast cancer and children's cancer research.

The concert will serve as the launch for the album "Let Us In Nashville - A Tribute To Linda McCartney," which will feature all of the acts that will be appearing at the show in addition to Ricky Skaggs and Eagles bassist-singer Timothy B. Schmit.

According to Kelly Krueger of RED Music, the mission of the show is to help raise awareness for the Let Us In foundation.

"The Women & Cancer Fund's founder and CEO, Dr. Alicia Alvarez, has been involved in caring for the ill most of her life," he tells Billboard.com. "Alicia was born in Argentina and spent much of her childhood going house to house with her mother (the town nurse) providing care for the under served people of the community. In her teen years she moved to the United States to further her education and eventually began working for her sister's cancer charity, the "League of Women Against Cancer" (LOWAC). When LOWAC closed its' doors; Alicia moved forward by starting The Women & Cancer Fund to concentrate on natural and integrative medicine with special focus on advanced and advancing technologies. The charity's scientists believe that this type of grossly under funded research will complete the puzzle and pave the path to a cure.

Krueger went on to say that "The "LET US IN. . . the fight against breast cancer" campaign was designed as more than a slogan. It is a battle cry of empowerment and for dollars spent; we should expect results."
