Paul McCartney Not Getting Married This Weekend

Despite reports that Sir Paul McCartney and longtime girlfriend Nancy Shevell are set to wed in just days, Access Hollywood has learned there will be no nuptials for the couple this weekend.

A source close to the couple told Access the reported wedding at the former Beatle's farmhouse in Sussex, England will not take place this weekend.

McCartney, 69, and Shevell, 51, who announced their engagement in May, first started dating during the summer of 2007.
This will be the third marriage for the music icon.

He wed Linda McCartney in 1969, and the couple remained married until Linda died of breast cancer in 1998.

In 2002, he tied the knot with Heather Mills. However, McCartney filed for divorce in 2006 and their divorce was finalized in 2008.

McCartney has five children from his previous relationships, ranging in age from 48 to 7 years old. "

" September 15, 2011 -- Daily Mail (UK)

McCartney's fiancee Nancy Shevell offered a pre-nup but he refused (She has got daddy's money after all)

Making small talk at a recent party in Las Vegas to celebrate a new Beatles musical, Paul McCartney found himself separated from his wife-to-be, Nancy Shevell, for the first time that evening.

He was, according to those present, suddenly distracted - his eyes darting around the large room until he spotted New York-born Nancy, stunning in a thigh-skimming gold-silk dress.

As soon as there was a suitable lull in the conversation, Sir Paul nipped back to the side of his 51-year-old fiancee.

When he returned to the group, he had Miss Shevell with him, clasped firmly by the hand. Sir Paul noted the amused glances of fellow partygoers and sheepishly conceded: 'What can I say? She's my comfort blanket.'

Few who know the couple well are in any doubt that, after the catastrophe of his second marriage to ex-model Heather Mills, Paul, 69, has finally found a woman who can fill the void left by his beloved first wife Linda, who died from breast cancer 13 years ago.

'Most of his friends saw Heather as a mental aberration on Paul's part,' one of his circle told me yesterday. 'But in Nancy he has found what Linda gave him: someone who nurtures him, but who quietly cajoles him when needs be.'

Certainly, Nancy, who has kept out of the limelight during their four-year relationship, is seen by many in Macca's circle as a formidable figure.

Friends say there was 'some good-natured negotiation' before haulage heiress Miss Shevell finally relented to her fiance's wishes and agreed to make their marital base in Britain, instead of at her home in New York's exclusive Upper East Side district.

Finally, they say, a compromise was reached, which means the couple will spend most of their time at McCartney's London townhouse in St John's Wood and his 933-acre estate in East Sussex.

But once a month, the new Lady McCartney will travel to America - where she is vice-president of her family firm, New England Motor Freight and the patron of her drugs charity.

'Paul's got his way on that one,' says a member of his entourage. 'But Nancy is no pushover. Paul's never been interested in women he can dominate.'

Indeed, visitors to McCartney's homes here say his new wife-to-be has already been subtly stamping her mark on the cluttered farm in Peasmarsh - the McCartney family home where Linda's ashes are scattered.

Nancy has persuaded him to do away with the more dreary furniture, invested in scented candles, new expensive linens and soft furnishings.

But if her tastes are more Park Avenue princess than Linda's bohemian style, the success of Paul's relationship with Miss Shevell is precisely because she is, in so many ways, similar to Linda.

After all, both came from rich Jewish-American East Coast families. Photographer Linda Eastman, who McCartney married in 1969, was the daughter of wealthy New York showbusiness lawyer Lee Eastman - who later managed Paul's career.

Divorcee Miss Shevell, who is 18 years younger than her new fiancee, is the heiress to a £250 million haulage firm built up by her trucking magnate father Myron Mike Shevell, in nearby New Jersey. And like Linda, Nancy has battled breast cancer, after surviving a brush with the disease in the Nineties.

Both women are a world away from working-class, pushy Heather who Paul married in haste nine years ago while still struggling to come to terms with Linda's death.

Crucially, Nancy s background and aversion to the limelight has endeared her to the rocker s children: Mary, 42, Stella, 40, James, 34, and 48-year-old Heather, the daughter from Linda's first marriage, who Paul adopted.

That they have so readily taken to her is in striking contrast with the McCartney offspring's loathing of Miss Mills, who was awarded a £24 million pay-off when the couple divorced amid acrimony in 2008.

Even so, family friends say it took time before fashion designer Stella, who more than any of the children has her father's ear, completely warmed to the idea of her father walking down the aisle again.

When Sir Paul first floated the possibility of marrying Nancy, who has a son, Arlen, 19, from her 20-year marriage to New York lawyer Bruce Blakeman, Stella is said to have asked: Do you have to marry every woman you meet?

But the charming Nancy worked her magic on her future step-daughter, and made a point of wearing Stella's fashion creations while on the arm of Sir Paul.

Last Christmas, Miss Shevell even hosted a vegetarian Christmas for all the McCartney clan at the family estate (although not a vegetarian herself, she never eats meat in Macca s presence).

By way of illustrating the warm nature of the relationship, Nancy and McCartney were the guests of honour earlier this week at Stella's 40th birthday celebrations in London.

In fact, the children have known Miss Shevell on and off for the best part of 20 years, since Paul and Linda became friends with Nancy and her first husband during family holidays in the U.S. at their respective summer homes in New York.

And an added bonus is that, while detractors of Miss Mills accused her of being a gold digger, the latest Mrs McCartney is clearly not after Sir Paul s money.

Indeed, Nancy is said by his friends to have offered to sign a pre-nup agreeing to take nothing from his £495 million fortune should the marriage end in divorce.

As with Miss Mills, however, the musician rejected the offer. Even so, Nancy is believed to have signed a short one-page legal statement giving up the right to make any claim on the trust funds of McCartney s children and grandchildren.

Those close to the couple insist Paul did not instigate asking his new wife to sign the papers, but say it was a legal requirement because his divorce from Miss Mills stipulates he must protect the trust of Beatrice, their seven-year-old daughter from the marriage.

And yet despite her moneyed upbringing, Miss Shevell's life has not been without its share of controversy.

Her 74-year-old father, a tough-talking self-made man, was charged with fraud, along with his brother Daniel, in 1975 when it emerged one of their haulage companies had a convicted mobster on its payroll.

The case never went to trial, but the brothers were forced to relinquish control of their businesses. The firm later went bust leading Daniel, Miss Shevell's uncle, to commit suicide.

Undeterred, Nancy's father was soon building up another trucking business, which now turns over £250 million a year.

But claims of links to the underworld remained. In the late Eighties, he was accused of cultivating a corrupt relationship with Tony Provenzano, an infamous mobster hitman who was later jailed for murder and extortion.

In 2009, Mr Shevell was put under investigation by the U.S. Government s Organised Crime Strike Force over his alleged links to Vincent the chin Gigante head of the Genovese family, one of New York s principal crime dynasties.

A lawsuit claimed Mr Shevell paid off Gigante's mobsters in return for sweetheart deals, which gave his company carte blanche to operate outside of union rules, although Mr Shevell later maintained the suit was settled without any charges against him.

None of which has damaged Miss Shevell's position as one of the leading lights of Manhattan society or put off her fiance.

After their London wedding, the newlyweds are said to be planning a party in New York for her family and friends next week.

Sir Paul is also due to premiere the debut ballet he has written, Ocean's Kingdom, in the city at the same time.

It promises to be a triumphant homecoming for the newest Lady McCartney. "

Joey, what if jb never left?

The story of U2 is so deeply etched in the annals of rock & roll we can scarcely imagine it unfolding in any other way.

Yet at any point in the past 33 years it could easily have taken a turn. A small, seemingly inconsequential decision, an impetuous act, even just a subtle shift in taste … any of these could have left us with a band and a body of work wildly different from what we know today.

In November of 1991 U2 released their darkest, most introspective album to date. The Joshua Tree and Rattle And Hum had earned them a reputation as humorless and self-important. So with the new record they sought to deflect attention from the fierce melancholy of the songs with both the title -- Achtung Baby, a line lifted from the Mel Brooks movie The Producers (much of the album was recorded in Berlin) -- and the montage of disparate images on the sleeve.

Bono started quoting Oscar Wilde -- "Man is least himself when he talks in his own person, give him a mask and he will tell you the truth" -- and on the Zoo TV tour of 1992-1993 always took the stage in character. At the same time, giant TVs above the stage flashed contradictory messages and images both provocative and mundane. Through all of this he was able to speak the truth of the new songs.

But what if U2 had never discovered irony, which they mined so well during the Zoo TV period? What if they had never mastered the art of self-deprecation writ large?

Cue the squiggly lines and flashback music.

Dublin. Summer, 1991. U2 have just finished recording their latest album, their first since the 1989 release of Rattle And Hum and the subsequent backlash against the group. Begun in Berlin even as the Soviet bloc was crumbling, the new music is wildly divergent from that produced by the band in the final years of the eighties. Gone are the overt American roots music influences and in their place is a sort of musical obliqueness that might be described as "European" in approach.

Having completed recording, U2 turn their attention to other matters. First up: packaging. The band decide that the title and cover of the album should reflect the themes of emotional vulnerability and betrayal found in the music. One idea is to call the record Adam and put a nude photo of Clayton on the sleeve. Bono argues passionately for this, using words like "raw" and "authentic" and somehow weaving in several references to The Rime of the Ancient Mariner.

Other contenders include Fear Of Women and Cruise Down Main Street. Eventually, though, they settle on Man -- an allusion to the band's debut album, Boy, as well as to the adult themes on the new record, the stark portrayals of relationships after romance. Yes, they all say, as they smile broadly and pat each other on the back, Man will do quite nicely.

For the cover, they choose a black-and-white photo of Bono's lower half standing in front of a microphone stand in a studio, or perhaps a rehearsal hall (in another universe, this image appears in the lower right corner of the back cover of Achtung Baby). They all agree that it works. It's ambiguous, suggestive, and yet still austere in that U2 kind of way.

In interviews to promote the record, Bono talks about the "European-ness" of Man and holds forth on the links between the lyrical content and the backdrop of Berlin, noting that relationships are often like "little cold wars" with no hope of dιtente. He soliloquizes about the history of Eastern Europe: about Sarajevo 1914, the Berlin Blockade, the Solidarity movement in Poland.

Audiences don't always appreciate the pedantic nature of these interviews -- especially younger audiences, who are already prone to think of U2 as their older brothers' band. "Why can't they be more like Jesus Jones," one music fan is quoted as saying. "I mean, Jesus Jones sing about history and stuff [in the 1991 hit "Right Here, Right Now"], but they're not all in your face about it."

Others bemoan the impossibly high standards to which Bono holds journalists. Was it really necessary, they ask, to berate Kurt Loder like that when he said the Bolshevik Revolution took place on October 23, 1917 (Old Style Julian Calendar), and not on October 25 as history records?

The other members of the band begin to worry that it's too much. Maybe the press and the public haven't moved past the Rattle And Hum debacle; maybe they still can't look beyond U2's outsize image and Bono's tendency to harangue. In the end, they decide the music is strong enough to withstand any prejudices against the group -- the singer, in particular. They choose not to rein him in.

In October, lead single "Until The End Of The World" is released to mixed reviews (People magazine's assessment: "Kind of a downer"). The album drops in November, and while generally well received, its ascendance on the charts is cut short by the release of Michael Jackson's Dangerous the following week. By February, with the explosion of alternative music onto the scene, Man is yesterday's news.

The Man tour kicks off in March. Like the album, the tour is dark and unsparing, and decidedly free of irony. Playing arenas only, it features a mostly unadorned stage, stark lighting and several screens behind the band. At key moments during the show, as during the emotionally charged climax, these come to life with images of, for example, street scenes in Soviet-era Berlin.

The tour draws impressive crowds but there is still a sense that U2 are, more than anything, a holdover from the eighties. Anthony DeCurtis sums it up in a 1992 issue of Rolling Stone. "It's not so much that U2 are out of step with the times," he writes. "They aren't. You have to remember, though: In the latter half of the eighties, Bono and the boys defined the times."

The hoped-for resurgence of interest is nowhere in sight, but still the band soldier on. During a break in touring, Bono, Edge and Brian Eno record and release an EP of Jacques Brel songs. The music is sublime, with pulsing synths, shimmering guitars and the refined vocal stylings of yer man. No one buys it.

The band know their relevance is slipping; they know something needs to change. At one of the final shows of the tour, Bono, by now sporting slicked-back hair and a pencil mustache, speaks of the need to find a new direction, a new approach. "It's no big deal," he says. "Its just, we have to go away and dream it all up again … again."

(c) @U2/Boas, 2011.

Can we post political stuff in here?  Obam (Bamo) likes to kill terrorists.  Bush and the Bush G**** had an aversion to doing so.  They are all the world's pansies now.  But anyway, lets hope fat boy from New jersey wins the White House.  Is every guy in New Jersey short and fat?

What Could U2's Next Tour Be Like?
@U2, September 29, 2011
By: Becky Myers / @bmyers

Now that the U2 360 tour is in the record books and the band and fans alike have moved on to other aspects of their lives, the obvious question is … what's next?

It's well known that U2 like to reinvent themselves, both musically with their studio albums and through their live performances. After 30-plus years of touring, performing gigs both great and small, it seems as though U2 have done it all in terms of their live act. But they continue to surprise us, and likely themselves, as they demonstrated on the epic 360 tour.

We know the band members feel strongly about topping their previous achievements and they focus on remaining relevant as they advance in their musical journey. As much as we'd like U2 to return to the road next year, we know that's unlikely to happen.

So, until U2 has a new album and supporting tour, fans pass the time by talking about what we think should happen next.

Speculation among fans runs the gamut. Will U2 simplify their concerts again, hearkening back to performances in their early days and through the 1980s? Will they put on another global stadium tour? How about returning to arenas, a venue where they are quite comfortable and can still reach a lot of fans? Will they experiment with the club scene to create a more intimate atmosphere? Maybe we'll see a greatest hits tour, or catch them at more festivals. Will they do something altogether different, such as producing an online-only experience and playing songs on request, or perhaps performing a single album straight through?

A look at our forum, a poll of the @U2 staff, and a review of what the band members themselves have said present some very interesting scenarios of what could lie ahead.

First, it's widely agreed that we have not seen the last of U2's tours. Forum member markreed suggests that the band has another 12 to 15 years to tour. With eight years left on their contract with Live Nation, that prediction seems realistic.

However, there are varying opinions on the venues the band should play, and even more widely varying opinions on the music they should play.

The Venue

Hands down, most fans prefer to see U2 in an arena (a sentiment validated in the 2010 @U2 fan survey). It is more intimate than a stadium, the sound is better, you don't have to worry about the weather and there are fewer people to deal with. Some people would like another stadium tour because it's easy to get tickets, and they like the outdoor atmosphere. Others suggest a mix of stadiums and arenas, like we saw on the Vertigo tour.

Our staffer Scott Calhoun offers a unique idea: U2 should create an inflatable dome, customized for excellent sound quality and the ability to project images on the inner walls of the dome. This touring circus approach might be similar to Cirque du Soleil. Of course, Bono would be the ringmaster and they would have to play "Acrobat" and "Who's Going to Ride Your Wild Horses."

Timing and Frequency

U2 set the bar high for themselves by taking their show to 7 million fans during their two-year tour. We got used to the idea that we could easily see them in person or follow them online throughout the tour. It was like they were always "there."

Forum member The Wanderer suggests a Jimmy Buffet approach to touring by playing eight to 10 shows per continent on an annual tour. They could play Europe for a month and then North America for a month, then mix in stops on other continents such as South America and Australia on alternating years. Break out the Claw - it is paid for, after all!

Staffer Sherry Lawrence predicts the band may revisit the idea of scheduling breaks in between a certain number of shows, so their downtime factors into the schedule. After all, they're not getting any younger!

The Set List

Probably the most hotly debated item of any tour is the set list. Assuming the band will tour to support a new album, what additional songs should make an appearance?

There are as many opinions as fans:

Some people, including @U2 staffer Joe Hebert, call for full-on set list reform. "Get rid of the tired old warhorses from the list. There is only one song that fits the 'must play' requirement for me and that is 'Streets.' Nothing else is mandatory in the set list. OK, 'Bad' as well."

The 360 tour began with a lot of songs from The Unforgettable Fire and No Line On The Horizon, along with standard war horse songs. As the tour progressed, the band dropped NLOTH songs in favor of more music from Achtung Baby and numerous rarities.

Forum member spooked1oo predicts the band will play "Love Is Blindness," "Please," "If God Will Send His Angels," "Twilight," "Love Comes Tumbling," "Heartland" and "Seconds," among others. Other forum predictions include "Bullet The Blue Sky," "Get On Your Boots," "Magnificent," "Crazy" remix and "Moment Of Surrender."

Consensus in this thread shows that Pop songs will make an appearance, including "Gone," "Please" and "Discotheque," which was played only twice on the last two tours.

Staffer Jill Marino would like to see the return of more NLOTH material. "Who cares if no one knows these older/newer songs that well? A U2 show is for the fans, not for people who bought a ticket to say they only went so they could say they saw U2. So bring on the classics/rarities and No Line back into the set!"

Joe Hebert suggests that the band prepare two different set lists, starting with a core group of 12 songs that appear on both lists, then adding 15 songs for set list A and 15 for set list B. The band should pick 10 songs from either A or B, he suggests, for a total of 22 songs. The band responded very positively to set list changes at the end of the 360 tour, so why not go forward with that concept? Of course, the band would have to commit to major rehearsal time to pull off this approach.

What U2 Say

Band members also have talked about future plans. Recently, Bono said it would be a while before U2 returns to the public arena. After the grueling 360 tour, the guys are taking a much-needed rest to recharge before they return to the studio.

Bono has said Pop songs will reappear on the next tour, along with more rare songs.

In an interview with Rolling Stone magazine this summer, Adam and Edge voiced their opinions.

"I imagine everyone will get away from this tour and get a bit of breathing space, then in two or three years time, they'll be able to do it again," Adam said. "You have the same set of questions: 'Do you want to play in a stadium?' 'No, we don't want to play in a stadium.' 'Do you want to play in an arena?' 'Yeah, we like playing in arenas.' 'But if you play in arenas, it will take you this long to get around the world, if you play in stadiums, you can do it over a couple of summers,' and the debate will start."

"I say it will be a while before anyone wants to think about it, but I'm sure the next time we go out, it will be quite different," Edge said. "That, I'm pretty confident about it, but what that might be, there really is no clue at this point."

U2 have talked about new albums numerous times through the 360 tour, offering album names and performing songs like "North Star." It's unlikely those will materialize on a new album. And history tells us a tour will not begin until a new album is released.

Adam insists the band has many more albums in it. "There's a mythology within music is that you have to be young to create it. As musicians, I think we're getting better. As a band we are getting better. We're better at editing ourselves and performing so we're in a much better place than we were when we made those early records."

My favorite interpretation of what should happen next is provided by our own @U2 cartoonist Kelly Eddington.

One thing all fans can agree on: We await the next album and ensuing tour with great anticipation! We'll take any tour as long as it's NOT a farewell tour!

Come back soon, boys! We miss you already.
