This week’s edition of Entertainment Weekly features a piece called “Dining With The Stars”. It features 11 celebrity-owned restaurants in the greater New York City and Los Angeles areas. It states “think star maps …for your stomach.”   Of interest to us here is the eatery that has been given the honor of the “Best Burger” in New York City. It is none other than the 7-year-old West Village restaurant called the Spotted Pig. Some fans may already know the place. It actually has more of the feel of a village inn than a London gastropub it is supposed to resemble. This place is credited with starting that trend.

It is owned by Jay-Z, Michael Stipe, Fatboy Slim and none other than our beloved Bono. If you are lucky enough to be seated on the brownstone’s ultra exclusive third floor where the owners dine, you may see celebrities such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Matt Damon, Beyonce, and Rihanna on any given day. The list goes on and on. The burgers are famous for being smothered in Roquefort cheese.

Well, what about the price? It states a meal is about the same as “one ticket to Spider-Man : Turn Off The Dark on Broadway ($150.00), though Bono’s burger is better than his score.”  Ouch…that last statement hurt! The magazine gives it a grade of B+ .

If you are in the New York City area or are visiting and would like to try a burger, the address is 314 West 11th Street. Here is the website if you’d like more information.

" August 10, 2011 -- Macca Report EXCLUSIVE!!!
By John Cherry, Macca Reporter

PAUL McCARTNEY IN CONCERT-WRIGLEY FIELD-7-31-11

The last time I was in Chicago to see Paul McCartney in concert was for his return to touring in 1989. I was at the Rosemont Horizon in Chicago to see Paul for two shows. It was very emotional, as it had seemed for many years that Paul might not ever tour again, especially after the tragic assassination of John Lennon in 1980.

While not as emotional, being in Wrigley Field was a unique experience.

Arriving by train, I get to Wrigley some 90 minutes before the scheduled start of the show. I picked up my tickets for both shows and proceeded to my seat that was 18 rows from the stage and about 10 seats from the center of the outfield seating. The stage is set in center field, with the city of Chicago providing a beautiful back drop. Even more exciting is the rooftop seating behind the stage, which is filled up by the start of the show, just as are all of the seats inside the stadium.

At just a tick past 8:30, Paul and the band walk on the stage. For about 30 minutes prior to that, the crowd had been entertained by both music and a scrolling screen of pictures, drawings, and videos. This treasure of history and memorabilia contains material from Paul's career, as a Beatle and solo artist, along with displays of many others that were influences on him or a direct part of his life.

Soon after the scroll is making a repeat run, Paul opens the show, wearing a fashionable blue jacket. "Hello Goodbye" is the opening number and the sound is excellent and the crowd is thrilled. Although I think Paul may have flubbed some lyrics at the end, the opening number is overwhelmingly well-received.

The second song, "Junior's Farm" is a bit of a surprise for most of the crowd, but it is nice to see it resurrected from the 1976 tour collection. Following the song, Paul speaks to the crowd for the first time saying "Good Evening Chicago-Welcome to Wrigley Field." After telling the crowd they may remember the next tune, Paul begins "All My Loving," which was the song that introduced The Beatles to the world on The Ed Sullivan Show on February 9, 1964.

Prior to the next song, Paul acknowledges being at a historical place and expresses pride about becoming part of the current history. He also takes a few moments to "soak it all in," a practice he started the last several years.

A staple from all of Paul's shows, "Jet" is next and the crowd is happy to join Paul and raise their hands when the title word is sung. The blue jacket comes off after "Jet," revealing Paul in a blue-gray shirt that is already soaked in sweat, along with suspenders. He looks just as trim as he did last year when I saw him in concert in Miami and Charlotte. He tells the crowd that the first time he played in Chicago (with The Beatles) that he only heard the screams, not his music. As expected, there is now screaming from the crowd, bringing a smile to Paul's face.

A well-received "Drive My Car" is the next song, followed by the lesser known and much more recent "Sing the Changes" from the Fireman album "Electric Arguments." As noted in my book "Paul McCartney's Solo Music Career 1970-2010"(available at betterthanlennon.com), this is one of my favorite songs. Tonight, Paul adds additional lyrics and instrumental pieces.

Announcing that the next song is a first for this "On the Run" tour, Paul launches into "The Night Before," which made its appearance in The Beatles movie "Help!. After the song, Paul hoists his famous Hofner bass, which is then almost dropped after the toss of it to his assistant John Hammel.

Now on guitar, Paul leads into another song from the "Band On The Run" album in "Let Me Roll It." Paul changes guitars again and tells the crowd he is now playing the guitar originally used for the Beatle song "Paperback Writer," which is received with strong applause. He adds a long extra instrumental lead guitar portion to the song, a nice addition and another clear indication of his amazing overall musical abilities.

Moving to the piano, Paul slows the pace a bit with "The Long And Winding Road," another staple from his tours.

The next song is one of my favorites, having used it in my wedding, and is announced by Paul as "for the Wings Fans." Also from "Band On The Run," "Nineteen Hundred and Eighty-Five" was added to his set last year, and I hope it will remain there. Great song, perfectly done, and well-received. From this high point, the enthusiasm is dampened a bit by "Let 'Em In." Although Paul and drummer Abe Laboriel Jr. have a fun time doing the song, it was not a high point for the show.

That was followed by a song that was dropped for awhile from his shows, possibly because of the near screaming portions of it, but "Maybe I'm Amazed" was very popular with the crowd, and Paul had no problem pulling off a strong performance of it.

The acoustic portion of the show, mostly with Paul on his own, started with the 1965 Beatle song "I'm Looking Through You," followed by Paul proudly talking about the recent royal wedding in England with Prince William saying "I Will," in his wedding vows, which preceded a lovely performance of a song with those same words as the title.

A huge hit of the night followed in "Blackbird," one of the several "singalongs" from the crowd. This high was sobered a bit by "Here Today," Paul's touching song written for John Lennon. Paul called it what he wished he had said to John before he passed away, and implored the crowd to "say what you feel."

The sobering feeling was quickly changed by Paul performing "Dance Tonight" on the mandolin, along with Abe doing a hilarious dance (the sprinkler) in the background, when not performing his drumming duties.

With an extended "ho-hey-ho" portion, Mrs. Vandebilt (again from "Band On The Run") kept the crowd enthused. The gathering was then electrified by "Eleanor Rigby," and even more so when Paul talked about George and started off Harrison's "Something" with a ukulele given to him by his late band mate. The enthusiasm also stayed quite high for "Band On The Run," and huge applause greeted its completion, especially from the crowd in the upper deck.

Another song added last year, and a very popular singalong that Paul encouraged came with the performance of "Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da, followed by a very energetic band offering of "Back In The USSR." After the song, Paul talked of his humbling meeting with Russian officials while in Russia doing a show in Red Square.

"I've Got A Feeling" came next, with Rusty and Abe singing what were John Lennon's portion of the vocals in the original song from the "Let It Be" album. Another speedy and extended instrumental portion was added to the song, as Paul again exhibited his lead guitar capabilities.

While I think some lyrics may have been flubbed, another tribute to John followed with the performing of the combination of The Beatles "A Day In The Life," and John's "Give Peace A Chance." Paul again implored the crowd to sing with him.

Back at the piano, long-time favorite "Let It Be" was next, and then the electrifying "Live And Let Die," complete with stage fireworks and explosions and a stunning fireworks display launched from behind the stage. After the smoke cleared, Paul went to the smaller, colorfully painted piano in front of the stage to launch another huge singalong in "Hey Jude."

This led into the first encore, starting with "Lady Madonna," followed by "Day Tripper," which led to a bit of dancing by the band. Paul tolding the crowd that they and the band were still going as he quickly jumped into "Get Back" to finish the first encore.

The second encore started slower as nearly everyone sang "Yesterday" along with Paul. This was followed by a raucous version of "Helter Skelter," accented by the roller coasters on the video screen.

The show ended with another outstanding staple of "Golden Slumbers/Carry That Weight/The End." It was a night I will never forget. From the beautiful Wrigley Field setting, to the elderly lady in my row who thanked her 20-something male companions for taking her to the show. She gently weeped while watching the last few songs. Thankfully, I got to return the next night to hear more.

James McCartney's New EP

Paul McCartney's son, James, is continuing to follow in his famous dad's footsteps. The 33-year-old musician's second EP, Close at Hand, was made available via iTunes on Monday and will be released worldwide on August 30.

Like James' debut EP, 2010's Available Light, the new recording was co-produced by Paul and David Kahne, the latter of whom collaborated on the Beatles legend's Driving Rain and Memory Almost Full albums. James penned all the songs on the six-track effort, and played most of the instruments, including piano, guitar and bass.  Among the tunes is the track "Wings of a Lightest Weight," which James wrote about his late mother, Linda McCartney.

"There is only one thing to do with high expectations, and that is meet them," said McCartney with regard to Close at Hand, which he considers a counterpart to his first release. "I wanted to follow Available Light with something that showed a progression...that had an even deeper meaning, both spiritually and musically."

Here's the Close at Hand track list:
1. "I Only Want to Be Alone"
2. "Wings of a Lightest Weight"
3. "The Sound of My Voice"
4. "Else and Else but Dead"
5. "Jesus Be My Friend"
6. "Fallen Angel"

Paul McCartney to speak to police over phone hacking

Paul McCartney has said that he will ask police at Scotland Yard to investigate the possibility that his voicemail was hacked by journalists at The Daily Mirror. The accusations stem from a column written by Piers Morgan for The Daily Mail in 2006 in which ther former Daily Mirror editor seems to admit that his paper hacked into the phone of Heather Mills while she was married to the former Beatle.

Morgan wrote: "At one stage I was played a tape of a message Paul had left for Heather on her mobile phone. It was heartbreaking. The couple had clearly had a tiff, Heather had fled to India, and Paul was pleading with her to come back. He sounded lonely, miserable and desperate, and even sang 'We Can Work It Out' into the answerphone".

McCartney told reporters last week: "I'll tell you that when I go back after this tour I'm going to talk to the police because I apparently have been hacked. I don't know much about it, but I do think it's a horrendous violation of privacy, and I think it's been going on for a long time and more people than we've heard about knew about it".
Scrutiny of Piers Morgan and his possible involvement in phone hacking has increased in recent weeks. Morgan, now a presenter for CNN in the US, has denied any involvement.

Piers Morgan Accuses Heather Mills Of Hacking Into Paul McCartney's Phone!

During his appearance last night on Conan, Piers Morgan addressed the recent reports that Paul McCartney had his phone hacked by News of the World, and despite the Beatles' member's ex-wife Heather Mills accusing the former editor of being responsible, he in turn took the opportunity to claim that it was most likely, in fact, HER!  "

McCartney & Turpentine? 10 Things You Might Not Know About Sir Paul

Few lives have been as thoroughly documented as the life of Paul McCartney. Biographies -- both of The Beatles and Sir Paul --number in the hundreds, many filled with minute details about the public and private life of the former Beatle. Still, we managed to unearth a few interesting tidbits that may have eluded all but the most avid fans. Feel free to chime in, in the comments section, with interesting McCartney facts we might have missed.

10. The artist who showed him the option to play guitar left-handed was Slim Whitman.

McCartney's father bought him a trumpet for McCartney's 14th birthday, but the young lad had his dad exchange it for a cheap acoustic. The future Beatle struggled mightily with the instrument until he happened upon a photograph of Slim Whitman, the country yodeler who played guitar lefty-style. McCartney flipped his guitar, modified the string setup, and soon wrote his first song, a ditty titled "I Lost My Little Girl."

9. Long before the edict came down from Brian Epstein, McCartney himself insisted that he and Lennon be nattily attired.

In the very first show McCartney did with The Quarrymen, he outfitted the band in matching shirts and string ties. Furthermore, to set himself and Lennon apart from the others, he came up with the idea that the two frontmen should wear matching cream-colored blazers. All of 15 at the time, McCartney muffed his first turn in the spotlight when he botched his featured guitar solo on the Arthur Smith tune, "Guitar Boogie."

8. "Yesterday" is the most recorded song in history. But nipping at its heels is a song by Tony Orlando and Dawn.

According to Guinness World Records, more than 1,600 different cover versions of "Yesterday" have been recorded to date. The popular standard, "Stardust," ranks second, with more than 1,500 recorded versions. Incredibly, however, the 1973 Tony Orlando and Dawn hit, "Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree," rates nearly as high, with well over 1,000 recorded versions out there, somewhere.

7. It was he who salvaged The Beatles' legendary summit with Elvis Presley.

While in Los Angeles in 1965, The Beatles went to Elvis's house in Bel Air to meet The King for the first time. According to McCartney biographer Peter Ames, Lennon irritated Presley with talk of Vietnam and by flirting with Elvis's wife, Priscilla. McCartney saved the day with the words, "Can we play some music?" An impromptu jam ensued (with Elvis on bass) wherein the group played a clutch of Presley hits.

6. The only instance in which McCartney has utilized a string quartet, other than on "Yesterday," was on a tribute song he wrote for John Lennon.

String sections have been employed on lots of McCartney's songs, of course, both with the Beatles and post-Beatles. But with the exception of "Yesterday," the only time McCartney enlisted a string quartet was on "Here Today," the moving remembrance of John Lennon he wrote for his 1982 Tug of War album. Tug of War also marked McCartney's reunion with George Martin, who produced the disc.

5. One of the first bands he tried to sign to Apple Records was Chicago.

During a trip to Los Angeles in the spring of 1968, when McCartney was trying to get the newly launched Apple Corps off the ground, he went to the Whisky a Go Go to take in a B.B. King show. An upstart group called Chicago Transit Authority happened to be on the bill as well. Impressed, McCartney tried to recruit them as an Apple band, but alas, the group were already in talks with Columbia Records.

4. His favorite band at the dawn of 1965 was The Who.

Released in January 1965, The Who's "I Can't Explain" impressed McCartney to the point that he proclaimed The Who his favorite band. Coming at a time when groups like Herman's Hermits and Wayne Fontana and the Mindbenders were dominating the charts, McCartney's proclamation was remarkably prescient. Throughout that year, The Who would assail the singles charts with soon-to-be classics like "Anyway Anyhow Anywhere" and "My Generation."

3. Before they became Wings, McCartney's post-Beatles band nearly became a paint thinner.

In August 1971, when he was trying to get his post-Beatles band off the ground, McCartney was having a terrible time coming up with a name for the nascent group. Among the top name-candidates floated were The Dazzlers and, for reasons unknown, Turpentine. Alas, while praying for his wife, Linda, as she was giving birth to their daughter, the image of "wings" kept springing to mind.

2. He began reversing The Beatles' "Lennon-McCartney" songwriting designation as early as 1976.

Although The Beatles first album, Please Please Me, featured songs credited to "McCartney-Lennon," McCartney famously acceded to pressure to henceforth adopt the designation, "Lennon-McCartney." But when Wings released their live triple-album, Wings Over America, in 1976, McCartney elected to designate the five featured Beatles songs as "McCartney-Lennon" compositions. He continued the practice on other post-Beatles albums.

1. His 1980 hit, "Coming Up," was a prime factor in John Lennon's decision to get back into music.

This charming ditty, from McCartney's homespun 1980 album, McCartney II, was first heard by Lennon as he was traveling with his assistant, Fred Seaman. The next morning, Lennon confessed to Seaman that he couldn't get the song's distinctive riff out of his head. Seaman later said the track stirred the muse in Lennon. "If Paul was writing decent music," Seaman wrote, in his memoir, "John felt compelled to take up the challenge."

Joey, what fires up jb?

If you're a fan of U2's touring history, you'll really love this: Over on our sister site, U2tours.com, we've just added more than two dozen new U2 concerts to the database of all known U2 shows. The new shows include an early performance by The Hype in March, 1978 and continue through the summer of 1980. Remarkably, there's even a new concert that we've discovered from the U2-3 tour -- U2's first tour outside Ireland in December 1979.

We've also updated 11 other shows with new information like what songs were played or where the concert took place. There are several scans showing the evidence of these new discoveries, too. Check it out here:

26 New Concerts Added to U2tours.com Database

This is the third time this year that our amazing staffers have uncovered a slew of previously unknown U2 concerts. They're doing it by scanning old newspapers and magazines and digging deep into any and every online source possible. So far, we've added 62 new concerts to U2tours.com this year, and there are more discoveries on the way.

He hasn't had a good one liner in years, Ronnie.....

Joey, tell jb to relax, it's gonna be allright!

LONDON — U2 lead singer Bono on Sunday denied reports he had been taken to hospital after complaining of chest pains while on holiday in the south of France.

The 51-year-old did attend the Princess Grace hospital in Monaco, but a spokeswoman said it was for a routine checkup.

"Despite press stories to the contrary, Bono has not suffered a recent health scare," the spokeswoman said in a statement given to Reuters.

"Reports of his being rushed to hospital for emergency treatment are untrue. Bono is in good health and enjoying a family holiday in the south of France."

The health scare was reported by the Irish Independent newspaper and picked up by online music news outlets.

Bono and Irish rock band U2 have just completed a world tour, which broke ticket sales records and laid the gross smack down on the Stones candied ass.

The group was forced to cancel several gigs in 2010 and pulled out of the Glastonbury music festival when Bono injured his back. They returned to perform on the main stage at Glastonbury this summer.

" August 25, 2011 -- Macca Report News

TODAY I SHOOK PAUL McCARTNEY'S HAND!!!
by Linda Chorney (lindachorney.wordpress.com)

Where s the photo? I didn t get one.

A picture is worth a thousand words. So it looks like I am stuck having to write.

Yeah, Yeah, I know it s cool that I met Sir Paul McCartney today (August 24th) in the Hamptons, where I have been hanging this week. "It's cool," is an understatement. For me, it was better than meeting God, if I actually believed in her. The Beatles are my Religion.

Linda! We know you better than that! You would never pass up a photo opp! What happened?

This afternoon, I biked with my friend to the beach. We stopped and met up with another girlfriend of mine. She proceeds to tell us that Paul McCartney is sitting on a picnic table around the corner. And she had this amazing collage that she made for him, by total coincidence, with her. She kinda knows him from the hood. She was too timid to take it over to him, while he was enjoying his privacy with his fiancee and a few friends, including Lorne Michaels from SNL.

Naturally, I said, I'll go over there with you! It's an awesome gift. I'm sure he won't mind.

My chance to meet one of the Beatles? Are you kidding me? I would have gone over there myself, and of course VERY POLITELY introduced myself and asked for a photo together, as long as he didn't mind. I wish that had been the case, actually, because I would have that photo.

Well, anyway, I convinced her to go for it. But she said you can't ask him for photos or anything. I just want to give him the gift.

We walked the large collage down to the table. He looked a little puzzled, and then the gift was unveiled. It was beautiful. He seemed to be very appreciative. And I have to say, he looked absolutely amazing. Very cute. Up close.

So, I at least put my hand out and introduced myself. At approximately 2:30pm on August 24th, 2011, I shook Paul McCartney's hand. I said I covered "I'm Only Sleeping" on my latest album. I love that song! Then I added, "Will Lee, ya know Will Lee, from the Fab Faux? He played the bass on it!" He said, "Yeah I know Will, cool." And that was it.

We walked away. Two minutes after, 75 yards away, we just stood there. I felt like Moses after talking to the burning bush. None of us asked for a photo or an autograph. The Artist said, "Do you think I should go get a photo?" I said, "Yeah, why not?"
"Well, it's tacky & ..."

"Why is that tacky?"

I would have taken that photo with me to the grave. I was dying to have my photo with Paul! DYING! (Plus, it's the least he could do. I have made him money! Royalties from the cut on my album! He really needs that money!)

Because it was her connection, I reluctantly respected her wishes. But I was pretty upset. I'm actually crying now as I type this part.

So I proceeded to have a f*king melt down. I balled my eyes out for awhile, and tried to shake it off. I called Will to talk me down. He didn t answer, so I left him a message to call me! The tears were still flowing. I called my husband, the tears still running down my face.

First of all, I really hate anyone telling me what to do. Secondly, I love the Beatles as much as anyone can.

I remember meeting Springsteen, and he was so gracious about taking a photo. Sure, he ain't no Sir, but he's the Boss!

So, I figured Paul would be as cool. And maybe he is, but today I didn t get the chance to find out.

Instead, three hours later I went back to the picnic table and sniffed where he was sitting, and got a shot of that.

MMM! Smells like chocolate!

Excuse me, my phone is ringing & it s WILL! Seriously! (6:39 pm) ... & 20 minutes later. He talked me down. He understood my pain. He prays to the same. I feel a little better.

I get by with a little help from my friends.  "
