" Second Shows Added In Chicago & Montreal!  "

" Due to overwhelming popular demand, Paul's On The Run tour has added second shows in Montreal and Chicago. The newly announced dates are July 27 at the Bell Centre in Montreal and August 1 at Chicago's Wrigley Field.

Tickets for the additional shows go on sale NOW. Chicago tickets will be on sale at Tickets.com, click here to buy click here to buy , and via 1-800-THE-CUBS, while Montreal tickets will be available at the Bell Centre Box Office, by phone at (514) 790-2525 or 1 877 668-8269, or online by clicking here

You can also purchase tickets directly from www.paulmccartney.com/tickets

The new shows bring Paul McCartney's On The Run tour to a tally of eight North American dates, kicking off July 15 and 16 with McCartney's first ever shows at Yankee Stadium in New York City, and proceeding through July 24 at Comerica Park in Detroit, July 26 and 27 at Montreal's Bell Centre, July 31 and August 1 at Wrigley Field in Chicago, and August 4 and The Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.

Each and every one of this summer's On The Run dates can safely be predicted to feature nearly three hours of the world's most familiar and beloved music, with hits, deep cuts and surprises spanning McCartney's unrivaled catalogue of Beatles, Wings, solo and Fireman classics.

McCartney's recently completed Up and Coming Tour played over three dozen shows to more than 1,000,000 fans from its March 2010 start through its June 10, 2011 conclusion at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, drawing arguably the most enthusiastic audiences and critical notices of McCartney's peerless near-50-year career, including:

"Some things are ageless, and McCartney's one of them -- he still radiates youthfulness like a packed playground. At a sold-out MGM Grand Garden... He was a study in nonchalance, ambling about the huge arena stage as if he was performing in his living room in front of a small group of friends."--LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL
"A Paul McCartney concert makes up for every bad show you've ever seen in your life. Seriously... The strange thing about seeing a Paul McCartney concert is, after three hours, you actually feel lighter, your feet hurt less - buoyed on by Paul's constant smiles and some of the greatest music ever"--AMERICAN SONGWRITER

"Of the 15,000-plus who attended this show, most, I'm assuming, will put it down as one of their favorite shows ever. It was one of those shows - certainly the year's best, certainly among the best ever at the Sprint Center and probably among anyone's shows of a lifetime. Expectations were high coming in; he exceeded them."--KANSAS CITY STAR "

Joey, why do they do this to jb?

U2 are the highest paid act in the world, according to Forbes magazine. The magazine's poll of the highest grossing acts of the last 12 months reveals that the band's spectacular 360 degree world tour earned $195m, way ahead of their nearest rivals, Bon Jovi, whose Circle tour grossed $125m.

Elton John came in third, netting $100m from his show's last year's. Lady Gaga was fourth with earnings of $90m, thanks to her sell-out Monster Ball tour and back-to-back albums.

By the time it comes to an end later this year, the 360 degree tour is expected to have earned a total of $700m. Every concert in the tour has sold out, sometimes within minutes. The band were forced to put on a third concert in Dublin's Croke Park in July 2009, when the first two nights sold out in just 40 minutes.

The show is staged on a elaborate scale, with The Edge saying: "We're actually at the limit, the absolute limit, when you consider the economics and the practicality of transportation. We're really as big as we could ever get."

*After the show, it takes six hours for production to dismantle the set and 48 hours to dismantle and load the steel structure and remove it from the stadium.

*totally unnecessary to win gross

The 12 Most Memorable Paul McCartney Solo Songs

When he wasn't collaborating with wife Linda, working in Wings, doing a duet, or disguised as the Fireman, Paul McCartney was going at it alone post-Beatles. In honor of his 69th birthday and the recent reissues of McCartney and McCartney II, here's a look at his best solo work.

It's hard not to get technical when discussing Paul McCartney's music. When talking over the idea of this list with my editor, I quickly realized how an article called "Paul McCartney's Best Songs" just couldn't be done. First, there were songs like "Yesterday", when he was the only Beatle playing on a Beatles song. Then there were all of those great Wings (AKA Paul McCartney & Wings) songs ranging from "Band on the Run" to "Silly Love Songs". There were also all of his collaborations, with wife Linda McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Carl Perkins, Michael Jackson, Elvis Costello, Steve Miller, Ringo Starr, and more. And let's not forget his electronic experiments/rocking under the guise of the Fireman. However, when we really get down to it, McCartney has released 14 solo albums so far, and that's quite an accomplishment.

Most discussions on Paul's best work overlook most of these gems in his discography, but in light of the recent reissues of McCartney (1970) and McCartney II (1980), now is the perfect time to change that. With the exception of McCartney, most of his solo work dates from 1980 onward, so let's count down 41 years of highlights!

12. "You Tell Me" - Memory Almost Full (2007)

I've seen many know-it-alls say that the music industry is a young person's game. In a world where 30-year-olds are said to over-the-hill, Paul McCartney did a shocking thing for a man in his 60s: he recorded an album that a teenager couldn't, and he blew everybody out of the water. Singing in a rare, almost-hoarse tone, he remembers past rain-free summers with bright, red cardinals. Or does he? "When was that you tell me," marks each statement as if the subject is beginning to lose his memory. A shattering thought, yet not all is despair, his whistling towards the end tells us that an altered life is still worth living. He isn't singing about himself, of course, but this is one great acting performance.

11. "Ain't That a Shame" - Choba B CCCP (1988/1991)

Many musicians have covered this Fats Domino hit over the years, but no one else has really packed as much enthusiasm into it. He works his way around the love-gone-wrong lyrics so well; you would be led to believe he wrote them himself from personal experience. McCartney was certainly gutsy for tackling the track, being that his best friend and former bandmate, John Lennon, notably put his own spin on the track decades before. The song ends with overdubbed hysterical howls that suggest that McCartney might also know a thing or two about primal scream therapy.

10. "The Pound Is Sinking" - Tug of War (1982)

I once saw a fan remark that the best thing about McCartney is that he "records every damned thing that comes into his head". He was kidding, but with records like "The Pound Is Sinking", one could see how someone would think that. Several notable Beatles songs ("A Day in the Life", "I've Got a Feeling") were actually separate incomplete Lennon/McCartney songs pieced together. McCartney seems to use this technique here with two compositions of his own, first going into a financial report (!) ("The pound is sinking, the peso's falling") and then summing up another person ("Well, I feel my dear that it's evidently clear that you can't see the trees for the forest"). We could decipher its meaning in a dozen different ways, but the fact remains that this catchy earworm of a song just sounds so right that we don't need to know what it's about, if anything at all.

9. "No Other Baby" - Run Devil Run (1999)

A cover of the Vipers' forgotten oldie, "No Other Baby" is rendered heartbreaking by Paul's rendition. His voice make you sense something beyond the mere declaration that he'll be true, and when you put yourself in his mindset at the time, his melancholy makes sense. Recorded after the death of Linda McCartney, the song's feeling of longing and loneliness even seeps into its guitar part. Its official music video, a black-and-white short film in and of itself, is enough to bring a tear to your eye.

8. "This One" Flowers in the Dirt (1989)

More pop than rock, "This One" is pure catchiness wrapped up in a theme a bit more complicated than your average love song. A list of past regrets about a friendship, though some could argue it could also be a romantic relationship, it segues into a hypnotically sing-songy chorus about a god riding a swan across the ocean. Rarely does a song with allegorical religious references come off as so easily listenable.

7. "The World Tonight" - Flaming Pie (1997)

Despite being one of the world's biggest celebrities, Paul doesn't discuss it much. While other, far lesser-known artists have devoted multiple albums to fame and its side effects, McCartney gives us this look at fame in the third person. In addition to that cool perspective, we get an equally cool rock sound on par with any radio hit at that time. Hardcore fans even get a hidden backwards message around the 2:40 mark ("Save animals' fur, Linda Eastman")!

6. "No More Lonely Nights" - Give My Regards to Broad Street (1984)

The theme to his entertaining yet commercially unsuccessful movie Give My Regards to Broad Street, "No More Lonely Nights" is a perfect slice of stereotypical McCartney. A lovely ballad with soaring vocals, critics denounced it. One particular reviewer deemed it "wimpy", but I pity whoever falls in love with them. Most people would focus on David Gilmour's guitar solo, but I just can't get over how well this song is sung.

5. "Coming Up" - McCartney II (1980)

Not to be confused with Wings' live version, the best track off McCartney II is the highlight of McCartney's early electronic experimentations. Sounding like a party for synthesizers with all sorts of electronic noises to be heard, Paul's filtered voice rises above the melee to discuss love, peace, and understanding. Most musicians would turn these lyrics into a serious ballad, but they are not as smart or as fun-loving as McCartney. Listen carefully to the end, when he sings the "feel it in my bones, yeah yeah yeah" part. He's having a ball.

4. "That Was Me" - Memory Almost Full (2007)

"That Was Me" is a fast, blistering scream of recognition. Speeding from memories of being in a school play to rocking out on TV, it's the greatest autobiography ever. Not only has he lived this amazing life, that voice commands you to believe that he's enjoyed every minute of it. Who wouldn't? Yet with a simple, "Who am I to disagree?", the great rock star manages to come off as a little bit humble.

3. "Fine Line" - Chaos & Creation in the Backyard (2005)

A revelation to all of those nay-saying critics, the joyous instrumentation to "Fine Line" dashed away most of their negative words with every punching piano line. An ode to peace, the song's high concept was easily hidden in a sound catchy enough to be used as a car commercial. The true definition of pop/rock, it's light enough not be too heavy and heavy enough to not float away.

2. "Every Night" - McCartney (1970)

While dozens of books have tried to thoroughly examine both Paul's thoughts during the end of the Beatles and Linda's influence on his life and work, none of them does it as well as "Every Night". A close listen to the lyrics tells us that although he can do whatever he wants, he is unfulfilled, but spending time with his love will fix that. McCartney's vocals are the most impressive instrument here, with his impassioned vocalizations towards the end showing us just how he means every word he's singing. Vastly underrated, it is a close second to his best solo song.

1. "Maybe I'm Amazed" - McCartney (1970)

"Maybe I'm Amazed" is quite simply Paul McCartney's biggest hit. Despite the fact that it was never released as a single until Wings' grand live cover, it remains the jewel of his solo catalog. The sparse original version (recorded in McCartney's home studio) lacks surround stadium sound, but makes up for that with a type of honesty behind its simplicity. Nothing is there to block us from the sound of a man pouring his heart out about the newfound love that has truly changed his life for the better. Unfinished, the song doesn't end completely, but what a symbol that alone is. Just as there is no real end to true love, the song fades off, suggesting that it is still going on somewhere else. Many other artists have tried to get the same emotional response out of it in their renditions, and many couples relate to it, considering it their own theme, but it will always be Paul's ode to his love, Linda. "

We can confirm one of the rumors that's been going around over the past couple weeks: U2's "North Star," a new song that debuted last year during the U2 360 tour, appears in the new film, Transformers: Dark of the Moon. @U2 reader Andreas K. saw a screening of the film today (Monday), and tells us that the song can be heard twice in the first half hour of the film for about a minute. Andreas says it has "a great guitar solo" and compared it to the version that U2 played last year on tour:

It was the same tune, the same melody but it had a rich production. It wasn't unplugged. It had a mellow piano and violins. I could say that it sounded like "Winter" from the Brothers movie -- they could be heard back-to-back in a new album. I must say that it sounds like such a great song, a big and touching ballad.

"North Star" doesn't appear on the officially released Transformers soundtrack, just in the film. Transformers: Dark of the Moon is released later this week, on June 29th.

Macca on the run: Sir Paul still working full-time at 69

Waiting for Paul McCartney to phone is a nail-biting experience. Whole days pass. Timetables are agreed, then rescheduled, then cancelled altogether. As the most successful pop musician in history, and still one of the most famous men on the planet, the former Beatle clearly operates by his own rules.

And he can afford to. With a personal fortune reportedly worth £800 million ($1.3 billion), even half an hour of his interview time is more precious than gold.

Still remarkably busy at 69, when many performers might consider retiring, McCartney is currently criss-crossing the US with his latest stadium mega-tour, subtitled On the Run after his 1973 Wings album, Band on the Run.

Two days after we speak, he launches the tour with a marathon 2-hour set in front of a Las Vegas crowd that includes Yoko Ono, Sean Lennon and George Harrison's widow Olivia. Even now, 40 years after they disbanded, the long shadow of the Beatles is never far away.

Next month, McCartney will play two gigantic concerts at New York s Yankee Stadium. Other dates follow across July and August, punctuated by extended breaks. This is unusual for a major rock tour, where every day between shows is a financial drain. But as McCartney explains when we finally speak, this stop-start schedule allows him to maximise time with his seven-year-old daughter Beatrice, in accordance with the terms of his acrimonious divorce from Heather Mills in 2008.

Nowadays, because of the way I am after the divorce, it s a custody thing, McCartney says. I have my little girl half the time. So what we do is, I tour in the periods when I don t have her. It s not a full-on tour, which actually is brilliant. We play gigs in the downtime and it means we re very hungry to play. Usually if you're on tour you are like: where are we today? Is this St. Louis or Cincinnati? You can get very bored with it. So this actually works out fine.

McCartney's solo career has now spanned 40 years, four times as long as his fabled decade with the Beatles. It began in 1970 with the album simply entitled McCartney, which is been reissued this month in a deluxe, expanded, remastered version. A homespun collection of unpolished strums and sketchy ditties that the singer recorded entirely on his own with a four-track recorder, this is the sound of a 28-year-old McCartney, newly married to his first wife Linda and finding his feet after the bitter collapse of the most phenomenally successful pop group in history.

It was right after the Beatles had broken up, McCartney recalls. So after that I had this choice like, do I immediately get another band? Do I take six months off from music? Or do I just do what I do and make some music at home? So that s what I ended up doing. But I didn t think I was making an album, that s why some of the songs are not aimed at anyone or anything. They are just me having fun.

The McCartney album is being reissued alongside its belated solo sequel McCartney II, another one-man-band project originally released in 1980, at the height of the disco and post-punk boom. This is a far more adventurous body of work, a heavily electronic affair highlighting McCartney's underrated shadow career as an experimental pop boffin, which stretches from the tape-loop collages of the later Beatles years to more recent dance-pop collaborations such as The Fireman.

I really just was fascinated with these things called synthesizers which had appeared on the scene, McCartney explains. It was new technology and I just wanted to see what I could do with it. Because the nice thing for me is, you do an album like that and it informs other stuff. It keeps your brain fresh so that when you go and do something else, a tour or something, you may not be playing that stuff but you've got the feeling of being someone who's not finished yet. I m still experimenting, you know?

As a recovering Beatle, McCartney s solo career ushered in an era when he began presenting himself as an unpretentious populist who never forgot his humble Liverpool roots. Whether pottering around his Scottish farmhouse, or playing low-key college shows with his new band Wings, he and Linda consistently downplayed their multimillionaire superstar status. To the irritation of his critics, this self-conscious everyman persona has been McCartney's default public face ever since, despite his immense wealth and the knighthood conferred in 1977 by Queen Elizabeth.

I still think of myself as normal, McCartney says. I tell people I'm just ordinary but they say, Well you re not, actually. I know what they mean, but dig what I mean, because in my head I'm normal. I just happen to be able to do a few things in a music direction. I came from a real good family in Liverpool who would keep your feet on the ground. If you got off the ground a bit, they d bring you back to Earth swiftly. You know Liverpool, that's the way they do it up there. I was very content with that I still am, you know? It feels like a good thing.

The perennially boyish McCartney turned 69 on June 18, but shows no sign of easing his workload. Beside his summer tour plans, he recently finished composing a 50-minute orchestral work, Ocean's Kingdom, to be performed in New York City Ballet in September. He has also been working with the Canadian pianist and jazz singer Diana Krall, composing for a hush-hush computer game project, and mulling over his first studio album since 2007.

I've written a bunch of songs, he says. I have the material to do something, I'm just figuring out how to do it. Do I want this producer, that producer, no producer? So yeah, I have loads of little things on at the moment.

Including plans for his third marriage, of course. A few weeks ago, McCartney announced his engagement to the 51-year-old New Yorker Nancy Shevell. It may be a cheeky question, but do they have a wedding date in mind yet?

No, McCartney says. The cheeky answer. No, we really don't at the moment. But we're definitely thinking about it, obviously.

Maybe the oldest romantic in rock is simply too busy to make marriage plans?

No, man! he laughs. Never too busy for that. "

FOR SALE: GIANT CLAW (U2 NOT INCLUDED)
Posted: June 28, 2011
By: Rashas

Pssst, wanna buy the ultimate concert souvenir? According to Billboard.biz, three of the 360 "Claws" will be on the market.

"It's certainly our intention to see these things recycled  into permanent and usable ventures," U2 tour director Craig Evans told Billboard.biz earlier this month. "It represents too great an engineering feat to just use for [the tour] and put away in a warehouse somewhere."

Evans added that the U2 camp is "now in discussions to send them into different places around the world and have them installed as permanent venues. Some major events have shown interest in these, from four different continents -- and we haven't even really put the word out yet."

Evans declined to mention specific potential buyers for the structures but said that most of the ideas are "for  turning them into full interior pavilions and amphitheaters. They're something you can put up on a waterfront and become an instant skyline icon. We know that the inquiries will keep coming in."

And, Evans added, it hardly hurts that the 360 Tour is the biggest in history, on track to play to some seven million fans and gross $700 million by the time it finishes.

"Having been part of the biggest tour of all time, they're pretty well tried and tested," he said. "They can carry weights no other structure can consider, and since they're already developed and designed you  can probably complete [a venue] in a one-month period instead of a two-year build period."
