Justin Bieber and U2 are among artists who have agreed to contribute songs to an album to raise funds for victims of the Japanese earthquake and tsunami.

Record label Universal Music said it hoped to release the digital-only album globally by the end of the week.

Bon Jovi and Rihanna have also been confirmed for the album, which will raise money for the Japanese Red Cross.

On Tuesday police said the death toll from the disaster had risen to 9,079, with 12,645 people listed as missing.

"We are doing it only digitally because it is faster," said a Universal spokesman, adding that the record would be "a worldwide release".

Announcing his involvement with the album on Twitter, Bieber wrote: "Japan needs our help... We all need to step up."

Trinidadian singer and rapper Nicki Minaj, whose album Pink Friday went to number one in the US last year, is also confirmed.

Universal artist Lady Gaga may also appear on the album, with more artists set to be announced.

The Poker Face singer has designed a "We Pray for Japan" rubber wrist band to sell to fans, with all proceeds going to relief efforts.

Last week she announced her fans had raised $250,000 (£153,000) within the first two days of sales.

Being Nice

The internet is just like the real world – nice people use the internet, but some nasty people do too.

It’s important that you are nice and kind when you use the computer to talk to people. Even if you can’t see someone, things you write might still upset them.

If anyone is nasty to you or makes you unhappy – you must tell a grown up so that they can help you and make the person stop.

' joey ................... does jb read the bible  ?   '

Why , ....... Yes , ........................... Some Guy !!!!! :

http://www.beatlesbible.com/songs/tomorrow-never-knows/

" Tomorrow Never Knows, the monumental closing track on Revolver, was also the first to be recorded for the album.

While the title, like A Hard Day's Night, was a Ringoism particularly liked by Lennon, the lyrics were largely taken from The Psychedelic Experience, a 1964 book written by Harvard psychologists Timothy Leary and Richard Alpert which contained an adaptation of the ancient Tibetan Book of the Dead.

Lennon had been given The Psychedelic Experience by Barry Miles, co-owner of the Indica gallery. According to the notorious biographer Albert Goldman, Lennon recorded himself reading the book's paraphrase of the Tibetan Book of the Dead into a tape recorder, ahead of his third acid trip in January 1966. He played back the passage as the drug took hold, and was so enthralled by the result that he resolved to capture the LSD experience in song.

In the studio
The recording was remarkable for a number of reasons. Firstly there was Ringo's thunderous drum pattern. The tom toms skins on his kit were slackened, and the recording was heavily compressed and echoed to give perhaps the most remarkable drum sound on any Beatles song.

The drums are the main constant in Tomorrow Never Knows, a perfect counterpoint to the musical anarchy that envelopes the rest of the song. According to engineer Geoff Emerick:

I moved the bass drum microphone much closer to the drum than had been done before. There's an early picture of The Beatles wearing a woollen jumper with four necks. I stuffed that inside the drum to deaden the sound. Then we put the sound through Fairchild 660 valve limiters and compressors. It became the sound of Revolver and Pepper really. Drums had never been heard like that before."

Geoff Emerick
The Complete Beatles Recording Sessions, Mark Lewisohn

Then there were the tape loops. Paul McCartney had discovered that by removing the erase head on his Grundig reel-to-reel tape machine, he could saturate a recording with sound.

There were five loops used on Tomorrow Never Knows: a seagull noise, actually a distorted recording of McCartney laughing; an orchestra playing a B flat chord; notes played on a Mellotron's flute setting; a second Mellotron on its violin setting; and a distorted sitar which is most clearly heard in the instrumental break following the lines "It is being, it is being".

It has been claimed that The Beatles also used part of McCartney's guitar solo for Taxman, reversed and slowed down a tone, in the instrumental break. However, the two parts are different and were likely recorded on different dates.

The final remarkable innovation in Tomorrow Never Knows was John Lennon's voice. For the first half of the song it was manually double tracked by John Lennon.

For the second half, meanwhile, the Abbey Road engineers ran Lennon's voice through a revolving Leslie speaker, more commonly found inside Hammond organs. It can be heard from the line 'Love is all and love is everyone'.

For Tomorrow Never Knows he said to me he wanted his voice to sound like the Dalai Lama chanting from a hilltop, and I said, 'It's a bit expensive, going to Tibet. Can we make do with it here?' I knew perfectly well that ordinary echo or reverb wouldn't work, because it would just put a very distant voice on. We needed to have something a bit weird and metallic...

A Leslie speaker is a rotating speaker, a Hammond console, and the speed at which it rotates can be varied according to a knob on the control. By putting his voice through that and then recoding it again, you got a kind of intermittent vibrato effect, which is what we hear on Tomorrow Never Knows. I don't think anyone had done that before. It was quite a revolutionary track for Revolver.

George Martin
Anthology
Geoff Emerick later explained the response in the studio:

It meant actually breaking into the circuitry. I remember the surprise on our faces when the voice came out of the speaker. It was just one of sheer amazement. After that they wanted everything shoved through the Leslie: pianos, guitars, drums, vocals, you name it!
The Complete Beatles Recording Sessions, Mark Lewisohn
Despite the groundbreaking results, Lennon later claimed to be dissatisfied with the recording.

Often the backing I think of early on never comes off. With Tomorrow Never Knows I'd imagined in my head that in the background you would hear thousands of monks chanting. That was impractical of course and we did something different. I should have tried to get near my original idea, the monks singing. I realise now that was what it needed

John Lennon  "

Edge: Tour Probably Ending in July, U2 Album After That
@U2, March 25, 2011
By: Liseth Meijer / Matt McGee

In a short interview broadcast today on Irish radio station Phantom, Edge talked about the band's plans for a new album, the rest of the 360 tour, and more -- and U2 fans probably won't be too thrilled with what he had to say.
Edge on the U2 360 Tour's Future

Although rumors have been circulating of new dates in Europe later this year, Edge said he thinks that's probably not gonna happen.

"I think we're probably gonna pack up the U2 claw after the American shows. I doubt if -- but you can never say never. But right now, if you wanted my opinion, I'd say that that will be the end."

Edge on U2's Next Album

The different projects the band is working on are all still alive, and the band isn't ready yet to commit to one particular direction. They'll probably decide on what kind of album to make and resume working on new material after the tour concludes.

"Bono's been talking about different projects and they're all still kind of alive. We're not ready to commit to one particular direction, but we've so much new material. And when the dust settles and we're off the road, I think we're gonna give ourselves a couple weeks and sit back and figure it all out and decide which way we're gonna go." Later he adds, "We're enjoying that moment where things haven't fully come into focus and we could take it in a number of different directions."

Edge also mentioned the band will probably change the set list a bit for their performance in Glastonbury and have "a few little extras, but nothing like the 360 stage."

Edge taped the interview last week while he was still in New York City. You can listen yourself on Phantom.ie's website.

A retrospective of Linda McCartney's life and photography

In 1966, during a brief stint as a receptionist for Town and Country magazine, Linda Eastman snagged a press pass to a very exclusive promotional event for the Rolling Stones aboard a yacht on the Hudson River; her fresh, candid photographs of the band were far superior to the formal shots made by the band's official photographer, and she was instantly on the way to making a name for herself as a top rock 'n' roll photographer. In May 1968, with her portrait of Eric Clapton, she entered the record books as the first female photographer to have her work featured on the cover of Rolling Stone. During her tenure as the leading photographer of the late 1960s' musical scene, she captured many of rock's most important musicians on film, including Aretha Franklin, Jimi Hendrix, Bob Dylan, Janis Joplin, Simon & Garfunkel, The Who, The Doors, and the Grateful Dead. In 1967, Linda went to London to document the "Swinging Sixties," where she met Paul McCartney at the Bag 'O Nails club and subsequently photographed The Beatles during a launch event for the Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album. Paul and Linda fell in love, and were married on March 12, 1969. For the next three decades, until her untimely death, she devoted herself to her family, vegetarianism, animal rights, and photography. From her early rock 'n' roll portraits, through the final years of The Beatles, via touring with Wings to raising four children with Paul, Linda captured her whole world on film. Her shots range from spontaneous family pictures to studio sessions with Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson, as well as artists Willem de Kooning and Gilbert and George. Always unassuming and fresh, her work displays a warmth and a feeling for the precise moment that captures the essence of any subject. Whether photographing her children, celebrities, animals, or a fleeting moment of everyday life, she did so without pretension or artifice.

This retrospective volume-selected from her archive of over 200,000 images is produced in close collaboration with Paul and their children. As such, it is a moving personal journal and a lasting testament to Linda's talent.

In addition to the Collector's Edition limited to 750 copies (signed by Paul), this book is also available in the following editions:
* Trade Edition
* Two Art Editions of 125 copies each with a photographic print  "

Paul McCartney's Up and Coming Tour Gets Back to South America

First Live Show of 2011 Announced
May 9th -- Lima, Peru

Paul's headline making visit to South America last year resulted in Macca-mania as makeshift 'McCartney villages' were built by fans in Brazil and Argentina, camping outside stadiums waiting days for the doors to open to get themselves the best possible position at the front of the crowd. Paul's Up and Coming Tour played to over a quarter of a million people in just five shows last November, creating an even larger appetite for the McCartney live experience. Earlier in the year Paul smashed box office records in Mexico for the fastest ever selling live show in Mexico City.

Following weeks of feverish speculation, Paul today announces that his record breaking Up and Coming Tour will be returning to South America on 9th May. This will be Paul's first ever show in Peru at the Estadio Monumental, Lima.

Speaking about his forthcoming shows Paul said:

"We had a great time in South America at the end of last year. The audiences know how to party and me and the band are looking forward to going back in May for some more rock n' roll fun!"

"This is our first show in Peru and my first time visiting there. I'm really excited about it. I've always wanted to go so I know it's going to be an extra special evening."

Paul and his band are currently rehearsing ideas for this new leg of the Up and Coming Tour and it's safe to say that these shows will feature nearly three hours of the world's best loved and most known music. Paul's live show features songs spanning his unrivalled career, from The Beatles, Wings, solo material and The Fireman's critically acclaimed album 'Electric Arguments'.

U2 set to break Rolling Stones record
Band's '360' tour is set to gross more than $700 million (£428 million)
NME, April 08, 2011

U2 are set to make history on Sunday (April 10) when their '360' world tour becomes the highest-grossing tour of all time.

The band are playing in Sao Paolo, at the Morumbi Stadium that night. Following the performance their tour will have grossed over $558 million (£341 million).

This surpasses the record set by The Rolling Stones for their 2005-07 tour 'A Bigger Bang.'

According to Billboard, when the tour finishes in Nebraska on July 30, it will have grossed more than $700 million (£428 million).

During their '360' tour U2 have played to an average crowd of 63,600 and grossed $6.4 million (£3.9 million) per show.

The tour began in 2009 in Barcelona and it has since visited over 30 countries.

U2 headline Glastonbury this June.

© IPC Media, 1996-2011.

The U2 360 tour will surpass all tours before it this weekend to become the highest grossing tour ever, according to Billboard magazine. The Rolling Stones' "A Bigger Bang" tour currently holds the mark with $558 million gross revenue, but U2's concert on Sunday in Sao Paulo will put 360 over the top as the biggest tour ever.

By the time 360 ends, it'll have an estimated $700 million overall revenue and have sold more than seven million tickets -- another record, this time beating the Stones' "Voodoo Lounge" tour. The Billboard article quotes manager Paul McGuinness:

"We were always very conscious that we had two parallel careers, as recording artists and as live performers, and each was absolutely vitally important," McGuinness says. "In our own kind of quiet way we were all somewhat military about it. We would talk about territories and conquering them, and if there was somewhere that was slower to come along, we would go back there and work it again. Bono is kind of a closet General Patton. So, for us, this is a real victory."

Also worth noting is the fact that, in the article, there are a couple references to the tour ending in Moncton on July 30th. There's no mention of additional tour dates being added, corroborating what Edge already said a couple weeks ago on Irish radio.

U2's 360 Tour Becomes Highest Grossing Tour In History
Posted by Joseph Lee on 04.08.2011

U2 making a lot of money...

When U2 begin their show at Morumbi Stadium in San Paulo, Brazil, their U2 360 tour will be the highest-grossing tour in history.

In San Paulo, U2 will break the record of $558 million set by the Rolling Stones for their A Bigger Bang tour in 2005-2007. By the time U2's tour wraps in July at Magnetic Hill in Moncton, Nebraska, it will have passed the $700 million mark.

360 will have sold 7 million tickets to 110 shows, which will be enough to capture the "highest attended tour ever" record as well. The Rolling Stones also currently hold that record as well, with 6.4 million tickets sold for their Voodoo Lounge tour.
