Joey, what does jb daydream about~

"I was in San Diego early to take in the first two nights of the Vertigo tour. I was assisting with the @U2 pre-concert party, and hanging out with two great friends, fellow @U2 staffer Sherry and her other half, Steve. We took the day to drive to L.A. because we had time, and of course, U2 was rehearsing. If this was going to be a U2 vacation, we were going to geek it up.

Then, the magic occurred. Fans who were gathered at the L.A .Sports Arena were let in with the radio contest winners to watch the last rehearsal for the Vertigo tour. To see a preview of what's to come for free before opening night was like winning a golden ticket. They opened with "City of Blinding Lights," and it was just magical: the confetti sprinkling down, the sheer joy of the moment, Bono singing "Oh you look so beautiful tonight" at full tilt. It was a defining moment in my U2 fandom, one I doubt I will be able to top. The song was perfect for opening the show, just as "Zoo Station" was perfect for the Zoo TV tour. It set the tone for the entire show"

As a teenager, Neil McCormick had ambitions to be a global rock star. So, unfortunately, did his schoolmate Paul Hewson.

Bono, as he became universally known, achieved all the ambitions that McCormick and his brother Ivan had set out for themselves.

As U2 rose to world domination, they fell short first as Yeah Yeah! and then Shook Up!. They even got a record deal, but ran out of luck.

Eight years ago McCormick wrote a book about his travails in the music industry called I Was Bono's Doppelganger and the European premiere of Killing Bono, the movie loosely based on book, took place at The Savoy in O'Connell Street last night.

"This is a movie that celebrates failure," said director Nick Hamm who optioned the book after it first came out in 2003.

The title comes from Bono's contention that he had stolen all McCormick's luck and the only way out was to kill the U2 singer.

For once McCormick upstaged his doppelganger who is in New York trying to fix the gargantuan mess that has become the Spiderman musical.

Ironically, last night was supposed to have been the world premiere of the musical now postponed (again) until June. The band were given a preview of the film in Australia while they were on tour.

"This is how we always imagined we would come back to Dublin. It took a little bit longer to get here than planned, 28 years," joked Neil (49), the elder of the brothers by two years.

The pair left Ireland to pursue their musical ambitions in London in 1983. Both are still involved in music: Neil as the rock critic with The Daily Telegraph ; Ivan as a guitarist in the covers band 29 Fingers and also as a writer of movie soundtracks.

"I am living my dream in my little Hampshire cottage with my three kids and my lovely wife," said Ivan.

Neil is played by English actor Ben Barnes who makes a decent fist of the Irish accent; Ivan by Irish actor Robert Sheehan.

"I was flattered when the best-looking actor in Britain and the best-looking actor in Ireland played us," quipped Neil.

Bono is played by Northern Irish actor Martin McCann and most of the movie was filmed in the North.

Barnes and Sheehan had to fight off the attention of teenage girls who turned up last night for the premiere.

Barnes said he was banned from meeting Neil McCormick before playing in the movie by the director.

"He (Hamm) said that if I tried to capture any of his mannerisms, the film would be unwatchable. I was really nervous because I've made him out to be a totally incompetant misfit. He sweated his way through watching it the first time and he has got a little bit easier with it."

************** SIGH !!!!! *************

" Although written by John Lennon in 1968, Polythene Pam wasn't recorded and released until the following year, when it was included as part of the long medley on the Abbey Road album.

Polythene Pam was recorded as one with Paul McCartney's She Came In Through The Bathroom Window. It was the only time two separate songs by the two writers were recorded as one.
The song recounts, with some poetic licence, the tale of a Liverpool scrubber with an almost comical fetish. Sung in a thick Scouse accent for earthy authenticity, it harks back to The Beatles' early days performing in Merseyside's seedier venues. It also resurrects the group's 'yeah, yeah, yeah' refrain from the days of She Loves You.

The character of Polythene Pam is believed to have been drawn from two women from different times in The Beatles' existence. The first was Pat Dawson (née Hodgett), a Liverpudlian fan from the group's early days, who was known as Polythene Pat due to her somewhat improbable love of the substance.

I started going to see The Beatles in 1961 when I was 14 and I got quite friendly with them. If they were playing out of town they'd give me a lift back home in their van. It was about the same time that I started getting called Polythene Pat. It's embarrassing really. I just used to eat polythene all the time. I'd tie it in knots and then eat it. Sometimes I even used to burn it and then eat it when it got cold. Then I had a friend who got a job in a polythene bag factory, which was wonderful because it meant I had a constant supply.
Pat Dawson
A Hard Day's Write, Steve Turner

The second woman was the girlfriend of English beat poet Royston Ellis, for whom The Beatles had performed as a backing band in Liverpool in June 1960. The group remained friends with Ellis for some years, and in August 1963 John Lennon had a memorable encounter with Ellis and his girlfriend Stephanie.

That was me, remembering a little event with a woman in Jersey, and a man who was England's answer to Allen Ginsberg, who gave us our first exposure - this is so long - you can't deal with all this. You see, everything triggers amazing memories. I met him when we were on tour and he took me back to his apartment and I had a girl and he had one he wanted me to meet. He said she dressed up in polythene, which she did. She didn't wear jackboots and kilts, I just sort of elaborated. Perverted sex in a polythene bag. Just looking for something to write about.
John Lennon, 1980
All We Are Saying, David Sheff

The incident actually occurred in Guernsey following The Beatles' concerts on 8 August 1963. Ellis and Stephanie invited Lennon back to their rented flat where the three wore polythene and shared a bed out of curiosity about kinky sex.

We'd read all these things about leather and we didn't have any leather but I had my oilskins and we had some polythene bags from somewhere. We all dressed up in them and wore them in bed. John stayed the night with us in the same bed. I don't think anything very exciting happened and we all wondered what the fun was in being 'kinky'. It was probably more my idea than John's.
Royston Ellis
A Hard Day's Write, Steve Turner

The Beatles recorded a demo of Polythene Pam in May 1968, at Kinfauns, George Harrison's bungalow in Esher, Surrey. The song was considered for inclusion on the White Album, but it wasn't recorded until over a year later.

The Kinfauns demo was eventually released in 1996 on Anthology 3. In it, the line "She's the kind of a girl that makes the News of the World" is replaced by "Well it's a little absurd but she's a nice class of bird". There are also variations in the song's chords.

On Abbey Road's Mean Mr Mustard, the line "His sister Shirley works in a shop" was changed to "His sister Pam..." to create an impression of narrative continuity. While recorded separately, the two songs appear back-to-back on the album, having been recorded in the same key and edited together without a gap.

In the studio
The Beatles began recording Polythene Pam/She Came In Through The Bathroom Window on 25 July 1969. They taped 39 takes of the basic track, which featured Lennon on acoustic rhythm guitar, McCartney on bass, Harrison on lead guitar and Starr and drums. Lennon and McCartney also sang guide vocals for the songs where needed.

During the same session they re-recorded the drums and bass parts, and lead vocals were added.

On 28 July they added a series of overdubs to the two songs, including more lead vocals, acoustic and electric guitars, tambourine and other percussion, electric and acoustic piano.

The songs were finished on 30 July with the addition of percussion and guitar overdubs. On this day the running order of Abbey Road's long medley was also finalised, with most final mixing, edits and crossfades put in place. "

Kim Washburn wrote "the story of a boy from Dublin who grew up to become one of the world's greatest rock stars," as the book's subtitle says, because "I think God has always had big plans for Bono, and Bono was fearless enough to pursue them. I hope young readers pick up on that." Washburn's book was a 2010 addition to publisher Zondervan's ZonderKidz biography series, designed to tell inspiring stories of the faith journeys of some of our most recognizable cultural figures. Other titles in the series are on pediatric neurosurgeon Ben Carson, former U.S. president Jimmy Carter, and athletes Tim Tebow, Mike Fisher and Kaká.

Breaking Through by Grace is, at 85 pages, a slim chapter book with 16 black-and-white photographs illustrating key moments in Bono's rise to rock stardom. Some pictures show a young Bono on stage in the early 1980s, and then later that decade during The Joshua Tree era, such as when he sang "on a rooftop" in Los Angeles during the filming of "Where the Streets Have No Name." Other pictures show him kneeling in the rubble of a bombed-out library in Sarajevo, singing with Luciano Pavarotti, meeting with U.S. presidents, posing with Nelson Mandela, singing at the Super Bowl, and offering aid to and playing with children in Africa.

Me Stonesian Brother ................

I would like to nuzzle you !!!!!  I always got the impression that John Lennon was a tad jealous of The Petey .  Discuss .................

Here is another one from " The Bible "   . I had no IDEA that Paul wrote the ' middle eight melody ' to Norwegian Wood . Heck , if he ( Paul ) had a hand in writing the song why not sing it on his " Up & Coming 2011 Tour " ? . Developing ...............................................

" Norwegian Wood was a landmark recording for The Beatles, being one of the first Western pop songs to feature the sitar, an Indian instrument.

John Lennon had the idea for the song while on a skiing holiday with his wife Cynthia, in St Moritz in the Swiss Alps. They were joined by George Martin, who injured himself early on in the holiday, and his future wife Judy Lockhart-Smith.

It was during this time that John was writing songs for Rubber Soul, and one of the songs he composed in the hotel bedroom, while we were all gathered around, nursing my broken foot, was a little ditty he would play to me on his acoustic guitar. The song was Norwegian Wood.
George Martin

The song demonstrated the continuing influence of Bob Dylan upon The Beatles' music. Dylan himself responded with 4th Time Around on 1966's Blonde On Blonde album, which shares a similar melody and lyrical theme.

Norwegian Wood was about an extra-marital relationship Lennon was having at the time. His friend Pete Shotton later suggested that the woman in question was a journalist - possibly Maureen Cleave, a close friend to Lennon.

Norwegian Wood was about an affair I was having. I was very careful and paranoid because I didn't want my wife, Cyn, to know that there really was something going on outside the household. I'd always had some kind of affairs going, so I was trying to be sophisticated in writing about an affair, but in such a smokescreen way that you couldn't tell. I can't remember any specific woman it had to do with.
John Lennon
Anthology

Although begun in Switzerland, Norwegian Wood was completed as a collaboration between Lennon and Paul McCartney. Talking to Rolling Stone in 1970, Lennon attributed the middle section to McCartney, although in a 1980 interview with Playboy he called it "my song completely".

I came in and he had this first stanza, which was brilliant: 'I once had a girl, or should I say, she once had me.' That was all he had, no title, no nothing. I said, 'Oh yes, well, ha, we're there.' And it wrote itself. Once you've got the great idea, they do tend to write themselves, providing you know how to write songs. So I picked it up at the second verse, it's a story. It's him trying to pull a bird, it was about an affair. John told Playboy that he hadn't the faintest idea where the title came from but I do. Peter Asher had his room done out in wood, a lot of people were decorating their places in wood. Norwegian wood. It was pine really, cheap pine. But it's not as good a title, Cheap Pine, baby...

So she makes him sleep in the bath and then finally in the last verse I had this idea to set the Norwegian wood on fire as revenge, so we did it very tongue in cheek. She led him on, then said, 'You'd better sleep in the bath'. In our world the guy had to have some sort of revenge. It could have meant I lit a fire to keep myself warm, and wasn't the décor of her house wonderful? But it didn't, it meant I burned the fucking place down as an act of revenge, and then we left it there and went into the instrumental.

Many Years From Now, Barry Miles

The Beatles began recording Norwegian Wood in the evening of 12 October 1965, under the working title This Bird Has Flown. They spent much of the session rehearsing and arranging the song, eventually taping just one track and a series of overdubs.

George had just got the sitar and I said, 'Could you play this piece?' We went through many different sort of versions of the song, it was never right and I was getting very angry about it, it wasn't coming out like I said. They said, 'Just do it how you want to do it,' and I said, 'I just want to do it like this.' They let me go and I did the guitar very loudly into the mike and sang it at the same time, and then George had the sitar and I asked him could he play the piece that I'd written, dee diddley dee diddley dee, that bit - and he was not sure whether he could play it yet because he hadn't done much on the sitar but he was willing to have a go, as is his wont, and he learnt the bit and dubbed it on after. I think we did it in sections.

Lennon Remembers, Jann S Wenner

The original version went unreleased until Anthology 2 in 1996, and The Beatles remade the song in three takes on 21 October. The first of these - numbered take two - featured a heavy sitar introduction and no bass. Take three was mainly acoustic with no sitar, and take four was the final version, which featured the sitar part overdubbed once the rhythm track was complete.  "

Some Guy?
Maybe the reason Sammy Hagar is not able to “Drive 55” is that he's accustomed to riding in space ships that travel much faster.

The former Van Halen front man and current proprietor of the Cabo Wabo Cantina in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, says he was abducted by aliens.

“It was real,” Hagar insisted in an interview with MTVhive.com. “(Aliens) were plugged into me. It was a download situation.”

The wild-haired rocker, who has authored a new memoir, “Red: My Uncensored Life in Rock and Roll,” thinks that aliens were probing him for some kind of information during his days with the band Montrose in the early ‘70s.

“This was long before computers or any kind of wireless,” says Hagar of his experience in the foothills above Fontana, CA. “There weren’t even wireless telephones. Looking back now, it was like, ‘F___, they downloaded something into me!’ Or they uploaded something from my brain, like an experiment. ‘See what this guy knows.’

Why aliens would want to know the secrets of a low-end rock star (Montrose wasn't exactly The Rolling Stones) is unknown, but Hagar said they were after something.

“I’m pretty sure it was a wireless situation," says Hagar. “Either a download or upload. They were tapped into my brain and the knowledge was transferred back and forth. I could see them and everything while it was happening.”

Maybe they were trying to download the recipe for his Cabo Wabo tequila?

Or maybe they uploaded it to him
