Confirmed: U2 Will Play Glastonbury June 24
Posted: February 23, 2011
By: Tassoula / @tassoula

U2.com reported today that, as fans suspected, U2 will indeed play the Glastonbury Festival on June 24. On the website, The Edge makes the announcement in a brief video.

The band were scheduled to perform at the same festival last year, but only The Edge made it due to Bono's back injury. Tickets were already sold out for the event before you thought about it.

That being said, I think that the Rolling Stones would out-do U2 if both bands did a free tour across the globe. Meaning, more people would show up on average for Mick and Keith.

Sir Paul McCartney give Irish band The Script a masterclass

Irish rockers The Script have learned from the best.

The Celtic up and comers - comprising singer Danny O'Donoghue, guitarist Mark Sheehan and drummer Glen Power -- have wowed the public and their fellow hit makers with their latest album Science & Faith.

But this week Sheehan revealed he awestruck when The Beatles legend Paul McCartney took time hang out with the band and share some advice about playing to large crowds.

"I think the best advice was from Paul McCartney - that was a massive thing for us," Sheehan told the press this week.

"We got a chance to meet McCartney and you were definitely watching a masterclass right there. He came in and gave us his time, he just chilled out with us and hung out. The things he said about going into massive arenas and playing stadiums but still being able to tell the story of a song, pull the whole audience in and still make it intimate."

Joey, tell jb to pour some Gentleman Jack and play it loud Better seen on weed!

for my baby, jb-

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mwMdO3HK_ws

Something is about to give
I can feel it coming
I think I know what it is
I'm not afraid to die
I'm not afraid to live
And when I'm flat on my back
I hope to feel like I did

Cause hardness, it sets in
You need some protection
The thinner the skin

I want you to know
That you don't need me anymore
I want you to know
You don't need anyone, anything at all

Who's to say where the wind will take you
Who's to say what it is will break you
I don't know which way the wind will blow
Who's to know when the time has come around
Don't wanna see you cry
I know that this is not goodbye

In summer I can taste the salt in the sea
There's a kite blowing out of control on a breeze
I wonder what's gonna happen to you
You wonder what has happened to me

I'm a man, I'm not a child
A man who sees
The shadow behind your eyes

Who's to say where the wind will take you
Who's to say what it is will break you
I don't know where the wind will blow
Who's to know when the time has come around
I don't wanna see you cry
I know that this is not goodbye

Did I waste it?
Not so much I couldn't taste it
Life should be fragrant
Roof top to the basement
The last of the rock stars
When hip hop drove the big cars
In the time when new media
Was the big idea
That was the big idea

Joey, there's revolution everywhere

Upset not only about the Duals track list, but also with the U2.com fan club on the whole, U2 fans have started an online petition calling attention to the situation. The petition outlines many of the complaints that have surfaced recently about Duals - the new U2.com members-only CD that mostly features songs already available on other releases. In an unscientific poll we ran on @U2 last month, fans overwhelmingly gave Duals a poor grade. The petition also includes other fan club problems, such as selling mislabeled lithographs and non-exclusive concert ticket pre-sales.

Via a couple sources, we understand that U2.com is aware of the petition and the complaints, in general. Zootopia moderator Bajagirl recently posted that she doesn't expect any official response to the petition.

UPDATE: Bajagirl has clarified her post in Zootopia saying that she was only referring to the threads about Duals, not to the fan petition. However, an email last Friday from [email protected] (the official "U2 World Service" email address listed in most album booklets) to a U2 fan who works on another fan site confirms that the petition has been "passed on to our people at U2.com."

Nelson Brothers tribute to their dad Ricky Nelson includes rare video of Paul McCartney

Speaking less than two weeks before hitting the streets with their first album in 11 years, "Lightning Strikes Twice," the identical twins Gunnar and Matthew, make no mention of new music, keeping the focus on their dad.

In addition to singing and talking at their shows, there's plenty of video in the tribute, showing the most televised rocker of the 1950s in action and letting a handful of his famous fans weigh in on Nelson's legacy.

Among the highlights of the tribute show for Gunnar is the part where Paul McCartney talks about their father's impact on the U.K. rockers of The Beatles' generation.

As Gunnar tells the story, "So you've got a guy like Paul McCartney coming out and saying, 'In England, we didn't even get the "Ozzie and Harriett" show. We just got the music and we thought Ricky Nelson was the famous Nelson.' "

McCartney even covered Nelson's enduring single "Lonesome Town" - in concert and on record. And Gunnar talks with pride of how his father's friend Bob Dylan often covered that same song in concert as a tribute after Nelson's death.  "

Stevie Wonder Remembers John Lennon, Paul McCartney Jam Session In VMan Magazine

After a bitter breakup and nasty callouts in their solo albums, Beatles legends John Lennon and Paul McCartney spent a night jamming together in Los Angeles. It's become stuff of legend -- and there was another music legend there who remembers it all.

Talking to VMan Magazine, Stevie Wonder recalled that night of rock lore.

"I was in Studio B and they were in Studio A, at Record Plant, and they were jamming, putting stuff down, laying different tracks, trying to come up with something, really just having fun," Wonder told the magazine. "And I think we did 'Stand by Me' together, just being crazy. It was funny. I think Phil Spector was there, too. I can't remember where we were, but I was in the restroom or something like that and I was singing and he said, 'Shut the f**k up!' and I was like, 'F**k you!'"

It was just one of many times Wonder and McCartney got together, but he also had a relationship with Lennon before his untimely passing in 1980 that went beyond music.

"Whenever we saw each other, there was definite respect and love. I just loved his heart. I just liked his desire to want to see peace, to want to see people come together and live together and make this world a better place. The last time I saw him, I remember he was working on the last album and he and Yoko were getting back together, and, you know, it was just a nice thing."

Bronze Monument to The Beatles to Appear in Tomsk

A bronze monument of the legendary Beatles will possibly be set up in Tomsk as soon as September, 2011.

Paul McCartney is planned to be invited for the unveiling ceremony. Preliminary cost of the project is 6 million roubles.

Tomsk sculptors Nikolay and Anton Gnedyh have come up with the idea to create a monument in the form of the well-known photo from the Abbey Road album's cover that depicts John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr striding on the crosswalk.  "

Dave Grohl framed Paul McCartney's baby clothes

Dave Grohl won't let his daughter wear the baby clothes Paul McCartney bought for her.

The Foo Fighters frontman and wife Jordyn couldn't bring themselves to let daughter, Harper, 23 months, wear the garments after they realised the Beatles legend had picked them personally.

He told NME magazine: "He wanted to give my wife and I a gift for my newborn baby. So he brought some baby clothes.

"And we noticed that they were from a store that's kinda near where we live, so the next time Jordyn was in the store she said, 'Paul McCartney ordered some stuff for our kid from this store.'

"And the guy was like, 'No, no, no, Paul came in and he picked it out by himself!' So our kid's not allowed to wear those clothes, ever! We've framed them, she's not getting them!'"

Glastonbury organisers have laid down the law to U2 and banned the stars from bringing their giant screens and spectacular stage props to the festival this summer.

Bono and the band will enjoy one of their finest hours when they headline the world's biggest festival in June.

But the stars won't be able to use any of the jawdropping effects from their record-breaking 360 degree tour because Glasto organiser Michael Eavis is insisting they "keep it real." Instead the Dubliner's will have to strip down their stage performance and use the same set as all the other acts. And last night a source close to the band revealed the stars will be ditching their set list that has been touring the world for the past 18 months, and instead perform a "greatest hits" gig for Glasto.

A band insider revealed last night: "Michael Eavis told the band it will be almost impossible to bring any elements of their current stage set to Glastonbury. There won't be room for the big screens and all the props on the Pyramid stage, so the band are having to completely redesign their show for the Glasto gig. Bono has already suggested they completely change the set list and do a greatest hits set. It means they'll only play a couple of songs off their last album and instead focus on the glory days. Songs including 'Where The Streets Have No Name,' 'Sunday Bloody Sunday' and 'With Or Without You' have already been put on the short-list."

U2 will be joining Coldplay and Beyonce as the main headline acts and play the Pyramid stage on Friday, June 24. Tickets for their Glastonbury appearance have already sold out with touts selling passes to the gig for up to £1,000 a pair.

A Glastonbury spokesman said: "Tickets are now securely identified and therefore cannot be resold."

U2.com Acknowledges 'Unhappy' Fans
Posted: March 03, 2011
By: m2 / @mattmcgee

U2.com has acknowledged that some fans are "unhappy" with the U2.com fan club, and is promising to investigate fans' concerns. The message, posted earlier today on the U2.com message boards, seems to be a response to the recent petition in which fans outlined several areas of disappointment. It mentions concerns over the Duals CD track list, fan club ticketing priority, customer service, and other issues listed in the online petition:

But it's not satisfactory that U2 fans feel aggrieved. So we're going to investigate all of your concerns, including customer service.

The message is signed by "The U2.com Team."

Stella show: Paul McCartney turns out to support designer daughter at Paris Fashion Week

Stella McCartney can always count on her father for support.

Sir Paul turned out for yet another of his daughter's fashion shows today, taking the front row seat with glamorous girlfriend Nancy Shevell.

The pair were joined by actress Liv Tyler, U.S Vogue editrice Anna Wintour and supermodel Natalia Vodianova with her adorable three children.

Sir Paul and his girlfriend Nancy Shevell were joined by actress Liv Tyler and Stella's husband Alasdhair Willis

Stella, who shows in Paris every year, produced another stunning collection featuring sheer, polka dots and gold embellishment.

Oversized volumes and slinky, body-conscious looks battled it out.

Volume took the first swing, with extra-wide-shouldered blazers that practically doubled the width of the narrow models, and chunky knit sweater-dresses that through some miracle of engineering held their maxi-shape.

The Swedish-Moroccan star producer Nadar "RedOne" Khayat is known as Lady Gaga's songwriter and is visiting Sweden. RedOne has written hit songs for many young stars, but now he hopes to work with one of pop music's first father.

Paul McCartney's reaction to working with RedOne, "It's all in sync to his and my schedule," he said in an interview with Swedish newspaper Svenska Dagbladet. "

Sir Paul McCartney Supports BUAV Campaign to end Cruel Cosmetics Tests on Animals

Sir Paul McCartney has declared his support for BUAV's No Cruel Cosmetics campaign to end animal testing for toiletries and cosmetic products sold in the EU.

Sir Paul said: "Animals should not suffer in the name of beauty. Testing toiletries and cosmetics on animals is cruel and unnecessary. Join me in signing the BUAV's petition to ensure the sale of cruel products in the EU is outlawed by 2013. Say NO to Cruel Cosmetics."

Despite UK and EU bans on the use of animals to test cosmetics and toiletries, cosmetic companies are still allowed to sell products within the EU that have been tested on animals in other parts of the world.

An import and sales ban on animal tested products in the EU is due to come into effect in 2013. However, concerns have arisen that there may be a delay of up to ten years for this to be implemented. In response, the BUAV has launched the No Cruel Cosmetics campaign calling for the ban to come into effect as planned in 2013.

If the ban were to be delayed, hundreds of thousands of animals will continue to die in cruel cosmetics tests for beauty products sold in the EU. Thousands of people across the EU have already signed the No Cruel Cosmetics campaign petition, including Sir Paul McCartney, to be sent to the European Parliament. You can sign the petition at http://www.nocruelcosmetics.org.

Michelle Thew, Chief Executive of BUAV, said: "We are delighted that Sir Paul has joined our campaign to end cruel tests on animals for beauty products. Please sign our petition to the European Parliament at http://www.nocruelcosmetics.org. Together we can show there is no public appetite for animal tested cosmetics and urge the European Parliament to vote against delaying this ban".

Celebrities, politicians, cosmetic companies and citizens of Europe are being urged to sign the Euro-wide petition.  "
