Paul adds "Ram On" to the Cardiff setlist tonight!

A fan held up a sign asking Paul to play "Ram On" while Paul was doing his acoustic set with ukulele in hand. Paul obliged, and even did the whistling part!

More on the concert later.... "

U2 manager Paul McGuinness has revealed that the eagerly awaited musical Spider-Man: Turn off The Dark, featuring music by Bono and the Edge, is on schedule to open in mid-November.

Rehearsals for the production are now underway in New York, where it will make its debut on Broadway this year, according to McGuinness.

Speaking to the Herald he said: "The current estimated time of arrival on Broadway for Spider-Man is mid-November and that's in rehearsal now.

"I'm not involved in producing it but obviously I represent Bono and Edge's interests. It's kind of on track and it's very exciting.

"Julie Taymor, the director, is best known for her extraordinary success with the Lion King and she's a movie director as well. She's a genius. Everyone involved is brilliant but, obviously, when you go on Broadway you don't know -- some shows are hits, not all though.

"What I do know is that it will be the most expensive production on Broadway of all time," he added.

U2 frontman Bono and bandmate the Edge are both involved in writing the score for the production, which is expected to cost approximately €40m to complete.

Weekly production costs are expected to be up to €1m meaning the show would have to run for 8,000 years to break even, according to New York reports.

New preparation has included filming green-screen footage this week and a flying workshop in Las Vegas last week.

One Tree Hill actor Reeve Carney will play Peter Parker and Spider-Man.

Each year, Forbes magazine compiles a list of the 100 most powerful celebrities based on a combination of their pay, and their rankings on television/radio, socially, in the press and on the Web. In the list released today, U2 came in at no. 7, behind three other musical acts (Beyonce, Lady Gaga and Britney Spears), one athlete (Tiger Woods), one film director (James Cameron) and one media mogul (Oprah Winfrey, who topped the list).

U2's earnings are reported at 130 million, making them the third highest-paid celebrities listed. They also had a very high Web ranking, coming in at no. 11, behind younger stars such as Taylor Swift and Lady Gaga.

" June 29, 2010 -- MTV News (UK)

Paul McCartney - Hard Rock Calling
REVIEW: Macca hits Hyde Park

"Good evening Hyde Park. I got a feeling we're gonna have a rocking time tonight!" intones one of the most recognisable voices in the world on a very warm night in London.

Paul McCartney is a man who changed pop music twice with one band. But at times tonight he still tells bad jokes, puts on cringeworthy accents and dances like your dad! But eclipsing that is the 68 year old's huge enthusiasm for music and live gigs. He puts most twenty-something bands to shame.

Tonight's 3 HOUR set starts slowly with Jet, solo tracks and songs from his Fireman records. Surprisingly his recent(ish) single Dance Tonight and much derided Ob-La-Di Ob-La-Da get two of the biggest early cheers from the 50,000 'Hyde Park-ians' (his words).

Paul pays touching tribute to his late bandmates John Lennon and George Harrison and also plays Blackbird alone on stage. With just an acoustic guitar the legend shows that he doesn't hide behind his great backing band- unlike contemporary Brian Wilson.

But it's the last hour of this show that everyone is here for. The Beatles classics (and er, one Bond theme) that have entered the international psyche. In order Macca plays- Let It be, Live and Let Die with trademark fireworks, Hey Jude, Paperback Writer, Lady Madonna, Get Back, Yesterday, Helter Skelter. Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band and The End.

All songs guaranteed to raise the pulse and bring tears to the eyes of pretty much everyone. Who needs the World Cup when we've got Paul McCartney? "

VAN HALEN - POSSIBLE LIGHT AT THE END OF THE TUNNEL?:
It's been a while since I reached out to one of my best sources of Van Halen info over the years, but it had to be done. And I got the information I was hoping for - independent confirmation from a long time source I trust that Van Halen are indeed working towards finishing recording of a long awaited new studio album with David Lee Roth, set for release sometime in the first half of 2011. A single is slated for release before the end of this year, but exact timing still remains very much up in the air. I'm told the relationship between Eddie and Dave remains as complex as ever, but there is a definite desire to get a new record completed.

Australia's Triple M Radio is reporting that U2 will bring the 360 Tour down under this December. Says the report:

Sources have revealed that U2 will bring their 360° tour to Australia in December.

The Music Network said the band will officially confirm the news we've all been waiting for when they announce new dates of their cancelled US tour.

We're still hoping for some news about when those postponed (not cancelled) dates will be re-announced, but our contacts are not saying anything at the moment. Consider the above a rumor until there's some official confirmation.

Following up on last week's rumors of an Australian tour this December, Australia's Daily Telegraph says U2 has "pencilled in" concert dates in December at ANZ Stadium in December:

The tour is not expected to be confirmed until the band pick up their 360 Degrees world dates in Europe in August and Bono is happy with his fitness after recuperating from back surgery.

Industry sources said that the U2 concerts would be held at the outdoor stadium before Bon Jovi hits the SFS on December 17.

Nothing official yet, but this continues to sound like good news for fans in Oceania. (thx Phillip)

" June 30, 2010 -- Yes! Weekly

A Charmed Life, and an immensely talented musician- Brian Ray

Brian Ray has a gig that every other musician on the planet can only dream of. He also has a career that a screenwriter would be afraid to create for fear of being too utterly unbelievable.... Brian Ray is the rhythm guitarist and bass player for Paul McCartney... That Paul McCartney. When Paul sits down at the piano, Brian has the job of playing the bass lines that changed the way people play bass.

Brian has had a career filled with gigs like this, playing with legends, writing hit songs for people like Smokey Robinson and more... With Sir Paul visiting the Queen City on July 28, I took the opportunity to ask Mr. Ray a few questions...

Brian: I pinch myself regularly.(laughing) Every once in a while I say to Abe (Abe Laboriel Jr., McCartney drummer) "Look where we are! We are playing in the White House for the president, who is sitting 4 feet away! How do you top this... I am indeed very fortunate and very grateful for everything, but I have also worked very hard to get to where I am.

Y!W: You have played two Superbowls, how do you top that!

Brian: Yeah (laughing) Really, we continue to play these iconic shows like the Super Bowl, the White House, the Isle of Wight that we just played. Again I am just so grateful to Paul for everything he has done for me, and to Etta James for the same.

Y!W: In addition to playing with Paul McCartney, I believe you have recorded with Ringo Starr as well, you might be one of the few people on the planet who has recorded with both living Beatles...

Brian: You know, I did, I always forget to mention that. (laughing) I met Ringo in 1977, and in 1981 or 1982, I recorded "She's About a Mover" with him.

Y!W: You also recently played a halftime show in tribute to Les Paul, how did that come about?

Brian: I was recording my new solo record, and had a crazy idea to write a break into the song, "I Found You" that was like a marching band, but with guitars in place of the trombone parts, guitars in place of the trumpet parts and so on. After a bit, I got up to around 40 tracks of these parts and I thought it turned out great. Not long after that I was introduced to Stephen Ross, owner of the Miami Dolphins and I mentioned how cool it would be to have that march out at a halftime show in place of a marching band. On the spot, he offered to let me do it. As the planning progressed we decided to do more familiar songs, and I ended up doing it with Rick Nielsen and Orianthi, who was lined up to be Michael Jackson's guitarist before he passed away. You can watch the whole tribute on youtube.

Y!W: We have mentioned a few of the numerous people you have played or written with. Are there any artists that you would like to work with, that you have not?

Brian: Good question. I have really been getting into the Retro Soul coming out of Northern England and from people like Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings. Growing up, I listened to a pirate radio station out of Mexico called XURB and a DJ named Wolfman Jack. The songs he played were the rythm and blues that are the bedrock for all rock and roll. Without it, there would be no rock and roll...So these new bands really interest me, and I would love to write with someone like Sharon Jones or James Hunter. I would also like to write with Robert Plant or one of the younger bands like MGMT.

Y!W: Your new single, "I Found You," is currently streaming on your website. Great summer song....it recalls the days of my youth, when summer meant great new songs on the radio, songs that would hook you immediately, those songs that when you hear them, they immediately carry you back to that time...

Brian: Thanks for saying that. I know what you mean, One of those songs for me was the Loving Spoonfuls' "Summer in the City" . Really a great song.

Y!W: What is the official release date for the new album, This Way Up? and are there any plans to tour in support of it after the McCartney Tour?

Brian: My new single, "I Found You" will be released digitally on July 6 on iTunes, with the full length being released a month later on August 3. The physical release will be around the same time, with a deluxe edition being released on my website, www.brianray.com. I would love to tour. I have a new manager, and we are looking to see about something in the way of touring in September or October.

Y!W: Thanks again for taking the time out of your day to talk with me, I look forward to your new CD, This Way Up, and seeing you in Charlotte on July 28 with Paul McCartney.

Brian: Thanks Clay
