About the Dublin show

Just got back to my hotel room after getting lost in traffic anyhow. The show was completely awesome, Paul and band were hot and the Dublin crowd was even hotter. I couldn't hear their name (The Coronas), but an Irish band went on first. They were actually quite good, I enjoyed them and apparently they were about to put out their third album.

Just prior to Paul starting, a fellow walked in front of me and wouldn't you know it, it was Woody Harrelson. I said hi Woody and he turned, smiled and said hi back while waving. James McCartney (Paul's son) was also spotted in the audience.

Paul and band took the stage a little after 8 pm wearing the black suit with a maroon collar and cuffs. The Irish were in good voice and you could tell that Paul and band were enjoying the show.

Paul also had a false start as he began to play "Two of us" while the rest of the band was playing "I'm Looking Through You". Paul caught himself, laughed and told everyone it was his fault.

After Mrs. Vandebilt the crowd showered Paul with singing "Happy Birthday" which went on for a bit. Paul looked on, smiling and then the crowd started singing "for he's a jolly good fellow" which Paul joined in singing... "because I'm a jolly good fellow." Rusty and Abe who had moved into position for Eleanor Rigby were laughing and enjoying every bit of it.

Also earlier in the show Paul talked about his recent shows in Mexico and how the crowd held up lighters and flicked the flame on and off to the beat of the song they were playing.

After playing "Something", Paul turned to the screen with his back to the audience and looked at a large picture of George Harrison and waved to to the picture.

After that he went back to the microphone and told the story about people flashing signs and how his mind says don't read it, but that it says something that draws your attention. Then he said "like that guy over there" and pointed stage right. He said that guy over there has a sign that says "I'm going to bang this chick I'm with after the show!" Paul said "I'm hoping that's his wife but either way it's not fair holding something like that up".

Paul had two very visible missteps during the show. One early on and a second as he prepared to do the leg kick during "Band On The Run". He messed up his first attempt, but not to be discouraged, Paul did an awkward looking second kick, which was successful.

After "Blackbird" he was talking about why he wrote it and also playing at the White House last week. He talked about how far we've come and that America now has a black president. Paul spoke in Gaelic several times to the crowd's delight and when speaking about playing The White House, he said that he figured that the perfect gig after that would be Dublin of course.

At the end of "Paperback Writer", Rusty turned his guitar around and the back of his guitar had white lettering saying "Thanx".

After "Live and Let Die" the crew loaded out the magic piano (psychedelic) onto the stage and I thought we were going to get a little surprise but he did "Hey Jude".

First bow was just a normal bow. After the first encore it was a bow with a shuffle and after the second encore, it was a band bow with only Paul doing the guerilla walk. Someone threw a teddy bear on stage which he picked up and said his goodbyes holding it.

Other things of note, after Hey Jude" and the first bow, the crowd started singing "Hey Jude" before Paul left the stage and continued to do so until Paul came back on stage to a loud roar.  "

Daily Mail, June 12, 2010
By: Brian Carroll

U2 bassist Adam Clayton is launching a High Court legal war which could rip the world's leading rock band apart, the Irish Mail on Sunday can reveal.

Clayton is suing the band’s financial mastermind Gaby Smyth for alleged negligence in a case that  could see U2's labyrinthine finances exposed before the world.

Dublin-based Smyth is often described as 'financial controller' of all U2 group companies and knows every detail of the band's earnings.

He is also thought to have masterminded the highly controversial decision to avoid Irish taxes by moving the U2 publishing operation to Holland, which has a far lower rate of tax on royalties.

That decision, revealed by this newspaper three years ago, has led to furious and sustained criticism of the band -- especially given the anti-poverty campaign of their currently injured frontman Bono.

The prospect of Clayton lining up in court against the band's financial mastermind will alarm those who already fear that musical tensions, coupled with Bono's crippling back injuries, threaten to tear the group apart after more than 30 years together.

It will be 50-year-old Clayton's second High Court action in the space of six months.

In January, the High Court agreed to freeze the assets of Clayton's former housekeeper, Carol Hawkins, after the court heard claims that she had defrauded him of up to €1.8million.

Now Clayton has lodged papers at the High Court signalling his intention to bring a negligence claim against Smyth and two other accountants -- Jill Percival and Pat Cleary -- in Smyth’s company.

The papers, lodged by Clayton on June 4, confirm the plenary summons relates to alleged 'negligence.' However, the detail of the claim is not yet known, as Clayton has until July 4 to issue formal summons to Smyth and his co-defendants.

It's thought the case has its roots in issues brought to Clayton's attention in his case against Carol Hawkins.

The ease with which his former housekeeper was allegedly able to take €1.8million from his accounts, taking €600 a day from his debit and credit cards for up to three years, alarmed Clayton.

The housekeeper allegedly used the money to go on a spending spree, which included the 2007 purchase of a $465,000 New York apartment, cars and jewellery, as well as living a rock star lifestyle far beyond her means.

At one stage, she was spending €900 a month maintaining racehorses.

A source close to Clayton said: 'It would be unwise to assume that this case relates to the case against his housekeeper, but that's not to say it has nothing to do with her.'

In preparation for the case against Mrs Hawkins, Clayton instructed two accountants, including Kieran Wallace of KPMG, to review his financial arrangements and all his personal accounts.

While it is not clear if his negligence claim against U2's accountant relates to matters which arose in this review, the claim does concern investments made on the musician’s behalf, and professional advice offered by Gaby Smyth & Co. A fourth defendant in the case is Bank of Ireland Private Finance.

This branch of Bank of Ireland handles investments on behalf of high net worth individuals, offering 9 per cent annual returns on minimum investments of €250,000 or more.

Clayton has retained Gleeson McGrath Baldwin to act on his behalf against Smyth and the bank.

The managing partner at Gleeson McGrath Baldwin is Frank Murphy, an expert in commercial law, who specialises in media and entertainment contracts.

He was called as an 'independent expert' when celebrity chef Conrad Gallagher was sued by the Fitzwilliam Hotel over the alleged theft of paintings.

Mr Murphy's evidence proved crucial in the case, casting doubt over whether the hotel actually owned the paintings at the centre of the case.

It was that evidence which ultimately helped secure an acquittal for Gallagher.

Murphy is overseeing Clayton's case against U2's accountant and Bank of Ireland, together with Geraldine Clarke, head of the firm's litigation department and a former president of the Law Society.

In addition to Gaby Smyth and Bank of Ireland Private Banking, there are two other listed defendants.

Jill Percival and Pat Cleary are both accountants who work for Smyth, with the latter noted for his expertise in advising television and film industry executives about tax efficiency.

Smyth & Co. acts for Screen Producers Ireland as a tax adviser to producers and artists engaged in the visual arts.

Among Stones fans, the "Wood vs. Taylor" debate has been smoldering for many years, even before Woody's recent tabloid escapades! (And I agree with the comments above. Affairs? OK. Underage or hitting? NO!) But let's clear a few things up. Mick Taylor gets an unfair bum rap on being labeled with the worst career move ever. Wrong! You have to judge his decision in 1972/73/74 terms, when he got no song writing credits, Keith was at his junkieness worst, Mick was flitzing around as a socialite, and the band looked to be sputtering to an end. Can't judge Taylor's 1974 move in current terms, especially after the band's recent huge tours, huge pay-outs, approaching 50th anniversary, etc. Woody's arrival also coincided with the younger punk movement of the mid 70's, where his off-key, slash-and-burn style mirrored the popular trends of the Sex Pistols and The Ramones at that time. Mick Taylor's virtuoso style was viewed as passe. Even Jagger took the punk cue with his stage clothes and with "Some Girls". But the common theme among fans and critics alike is that the Rolling Stones had their glory days during the Mick Taylor era. (There IS a reason why 'Sticky Fingers' and 'Exile' and 'Let It Bleed' sell more than 'Dirty Work' and 'Steel Wheels'!) Now with Ronnie in alledged bad shape, unreliable for playing/touring, as well as Keith's ominous abscence from playing/giging during the band's hiatus (and have you seen his arthritic hands/fingers in recent photos??!!), why NOT get Mick Taylor back in the fold??!! And WITH Ronnie!! Taylor still can play, knows most of the songs that appear on their live set lists, and can accent any liabilities in Ronnie and Keith's playing! They already have Blondie Chaplin playing guitar in the shadows/wings, so why not have 3 live guitars onstage playing? Besides, Ronnie played bass with Jeff Beck in his band, and Mick Taylor played a lot of bass on 'Exile', so they could switch off as needed! Time for Jagger to get the cues from the fans.....that to generate some excitement in the band again, as well as to give them a musical kick in their arse.......to get Taylor back with them for more one glorious, exiting run!!! Time to let old wounds and egos heal, as well as to generate excitement in a band whose members are approaching 70 years old.

" The Jew  "

" Scattered by God's avenging hand, afflicted and forlorn,
Sad wanderers from their pleasant Land, do Judah's children mourn;
and e'en in Christian countries, few breathe thoughts of pity for the Jew.

Yet listen, Gentile, do you love the Bible's precious page?
Then let your heart with kindness move to Israel's heritage;
who traced those lines of love for you?
Each sacred writer was a Jew.
And then as years and ages passed, and Nations rose and fell,
though clouds and darkness oft were cast o'er captive Israel
the oracles of God for you were kept in safety by the Jew.
And when the great Redeemer came for guilty man to bleed.
He did not take an angel's name, no, born of Abraham's seed,
Jesus, who gave His life for you -
the gentle Saviour - was a Jew.
And though His own received Him not, and turned in pride away,
whence is the Gentile's happier lot? Are you more just than they?
No! God in pity turned to you - have you no pity for the Jew?
Go then, and bend you knee to pray for Israel's ancient race;
ask the dear Saviour every day to call them by His grace.
Go, for a debt of love is due
from Christian Gentiles to the Jew.  "

U2 is way too big to fail love. And they will never admit it. This is not a casually snarky, much less irresponsibly crafted delusional post about U2 accounting <=> It's a very long time in the making. Over the years, and in early May 2010 I was told by lawyers who know my good name and entire back story, U2 is way too big to fail. They can and will spend their astronomical fortune to further bankrupt, destroy and tie you up in litigation for years. Most certainly you and the firm can't afford to sue U2. I live my life caught between a U2 and a hard place. I have longed to get justice from U2 accountant management via mediation in the name of a just resolution. They know my name, where to find me and they have not done anything at all. My every hard won word work, brand, original phrases that were written by a highly educated, trained counselor/healer to be read and sung by him himself were used woithout expressed written permission or even a hint at attributionin the credits. U2 knows my name, story in full and where to find me but never did the stand up thing and continue to profit from what I shared with them every bleeping minute of every Kathy oh day. I was totally and completely shattered in the very moment, that I was driving on Long Beach Sag Harbor to have a beer and chat with soul mate connectors when suddenly I was unwittingly thrust into a state of suspended animation pergatory existence. I was reduced to a shade ofmy former self while listening to the DJ play every track from, All That You Can't Leave Behind. I knew for sure that I wasn't dreaming anymore. Oh no. I was nightmaring all the way back to where I used to live on the bay and reveled in talking with friends about healing signs, wonders and visions of songs that would be recorded in the not too distant future. I could see hear and feel the lyric and music in the songs.
