HOUSTON -- The watch is on for an asteroid, technically called 2010 GA6, just discovered recently by the Catalina Sky survey in Arizona. On Thursday, it will pass between the moon and Earth, by a scientific near-miss of 223,000 miles.

"We get a close pass every couple of weeks or so. Within the orbit of the moon," said James Wooten, a planetarium astronomer at the Houston Museum of Natural Science.

Most of those objects are small and harmless, but it does not take much for all that to change. In January, another small asteroid came much closer -- within 80,000 miles -- when it passed by.

"NASA is aware of this issue and is trying to find as many of these as they can. They hope to find them with enough advance notice," said Wooten.

The push to find and track space objects now has a significant advantage. The NASA Wise space telescope has been in orbit since December, and already it is finding dozens of previously unknown asteroids every day.

Warning is the key.

"If you find it with enough of advance notice you could perhaps launch something to it that will push it a little bit and change its orbit so it misses Earth," said Wooten.

He said it should not be a problem, at least not this time.

The 2010 GA6 asteroid is 71 feet across, which is about the length of two school buses end-to-end.

Part of the problem in all of this is even the big asteroids are so small that telescopes have a difficult time picking them up.

One that has been noted is called Apophis. It was discovered in 2004, and there are two potential impacts with the Earth coming in 2029 and 2036.

On April 13, 2036 the chance of Earth being hit is greater than your chance of being killed in a plane crash.

" April 8, 2010 -- Orlando Sentinel

Paul McCartney gets back (again) in generous Miami show

"Up and Coming" is an odd name for a tour by Paul McCartney, who now can accurately sing "When I'm Sixty-Four" in the past tense.

But you're as young as you feel, as the saying goes, and apparently Sir Paul, at age 67, feels younger than a lot of rock stars a fraction of his age. In front of roughly 40,000 fans on Saturday at Sun Life Stadium (let's see the kids draw that kind of crowd), the ex-Beatle played for a solid 2 hours and 45 minutes, more impressively mining his formidable catalog than in his 2005 arena show in Tampa.

There was a little of everything: Good potential for a contact high. Beatles Rock Band images on the big video screen. AARP members storming the barricades just like in the '60s only with digital cameras, not protest signs. A ukulele-powered version of "Something."

Although he mixed newer material into the set, most notably the woozy, vaguely psychedelic "Highway," off his experimental project, The Fireman, McCartney mostly reveled in the nostalgia. He was charming, though not overly chatty, introducing old favorites with recollections about his storied past that were well-known to virtually everyone in the audience.

He reminisced about his first trip to Miami, to perform with the Fab Four on the Ed Sullivan show. "It was like paradise," he said. "We were kids from Liverpool and we'd never seen anything like it. And it's still cool."

Also still cool: That timeless Beatles music, performed by the one guy on the planet most qualified to do it. (Sorry, Ringo.) For the record, McCartney still sounds terrific, with a voice nimble enough to turn on a dime from raucous to honey sweet in a set that hit all the obvious targets ("Let It Be," "The Long and Winding Road," "Hey Jude," "Get Back," "Yesterday") as well as a few surprises.

McCartney's uke-strumming on "Something" was the most pleasant one. In an arrangement borrowed from his performance at George Harrison's 2002 tribute concert in London, the whimsical sing-along in the song's first verse segued into a spot-on rendition of the familiar studio version.

Although the members of McCartney's economically constructed 4-piece band were anonymous enough not to even warrant individual introductions from their boss, the musicians tackled the songs with flexibility. It can't be easy to translate the studio grandeur of "A Day in the Life" to a concert stage, but the group offered a capable approximation on Saturday.

McCartney hitched that song to "Give Peace a Chance," but didn't add too many other new wrinkles to the much-loved material. "Eleanor Rigby," "Two of Us," "Paperback Writer" and others were delivered faithfully to the faithful.

"Do you wanna 'get back'?" McCartney asked the crowd before launching into the song of the same name.

Well, you came to the right place.  "

" I'm seeking a cease and desist order for all this Macca shit. "

" Top designers are a walking advert for their outfits, which can make the occasional wardrobe malfunction doubly embarrassing.

But Stella McCartney at least managed a wry smile last night as her wraparound purple slipped to reveal her underwear.

What made it worse was that all eyes were on Sir Paul's daughter as she was launching her new flagship store in Milan.

Union Jack and Italian flag bunting decorated the shopfront, while Stella was greeted by crowds of Italian fashionistas at the party to mark the new store.

The store joins others in New York, Mayfair, Los Angeles, Hong Kong and Paris.

The daughter of Sir Paul McCartney, Stella, 38, has been very busy in recent weeks.

As well as launching her latest ranges for Gap Kids and Adidas, she has been working with Disney on an Alice In Wonderland inspired jewellery collection.

Stella, a mother-of-three, has also been spotted on a night out in London with her good friends Gwyneth Paltrow and Madonna.

Madonna recently revealed that Stella has introduced her daughter Lourdes to fashion, leading to the 13-year-old helping design a new fashion range under her mother's name.

'Lola [as Lourdes is known] has been bothering me for ages about designing clothes,' she explained. 'When Lola was a little girl, about 8 years old... [Stella] started giving Lola fabrics and inviting her into her showroom and asking her opinion on things, giving her sketch books and stuff like that'. "

" April 19, 2010 -- Macca Reports News EXCLUSIVE!!

by Jorie B. Gracen

Paul plays Sun Life Stadium (formerly Joe Robbie) on April 3rd

Paul arrived for the soundcheck around 5:00pm. It was a hot day and the band was facing into the sun during the sound check. Paul remarked how hot it was but didn't seem to mind. He was very attentive to the crowd which was about 30 strong.

Miami Sound check

1. Honey Hush
2. Honey Don't - During the sound check a small plane with a banner flew over the stadium advertising Ringo Starr's Hard Rock gig for July 15th. Paul noticed it right after he finished "Honey Don't and joked, "Look Ringo is following us! And we just played Honey Don't!"

3. Miami (improvisation song inserting "Miami" into the lyrics)
4. C Moon (A 7-year-old girl was at the sound check and held up a sign requesting that Paul do "C Moon". He saw her and the sign and said he would do the song for her. "I'm going to play C Moon for Katie." Macca had an employee bring her closer to the stage during the song. The rest of the people at the sound check were behind the first section about 30 rows back. An MPL staffer told people they could not 'extend' the lenses on their point and shoot cameras during the sound check or take video.

5. (I Want To) Come Home
6. Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five
7. Coming Up
8. I Feel Fine teaser (riff played but song not the song)
9. Magical Mystery Tour
10. Midnight Special
11. Things We Said Today
12. I'm Looking Through You
13. Dance Tonight (strummed on the mandolin very fast about 6 times as he teased us each time with, "You want me to do it again?"
14 Leaning on a Lampost - partial song (George Formby)
15. Something
16. Yesterday

The Miami Concert

Paul basically told the same stories as at the other concerts. The crowd was very rowdy in the front sections. As soon as Paul got on stage people in last 10 rows in the front sections made a beeline for the stage. They pushed their wayup to the barrier in front of the people who paid for the front row. Then there was a free-for-all with people pulling out cameras and cell phones to take photos. Some even brought in professional cameras and when security told them to stop some fights broke out with security jumping over the barriers to take action. Miami police were summoned to control the crowd. Consequently the front row was told they could not take photos even with cell phone cameras though the offenders were not from the front row. Then the front row was told to sit down. This allowed more people to walk in front of them. It got out of control again and security made everyone sit down and return to their seats. Paul did notice the commotion and kept looking over to see what was going on. He didn't look too pleased. He wasn't happy about the front row sitting down either though they managed to stand up later when security lightened up.

Set List:

1. Venus And Mars / Rock Show
2. Jet
3. All My Loving
4. Letting Go ("What's up Miami? OK, we're gonna have a party here tonight. Oh yeah.")
5. Got To Get You Into My Life
6. Highway
7. Let Me Roll It / Foxy Lady ("We've got some friends and family in the audience tonight and this one's for them.")
8. The Long And Winding Road
9. Nineteen Hundred And Eighty Five ("This is an old Wings song. And it goes like this.")
10. Let 'Em In
11. My Love - ("I wrote this for Linda." he dedicated it to her "...and all the lovers in the audience")
12. I'm Looking Through You
13. Two Of Us
14. Blackbird
15. Here Today
16. Dance Tonight
17. Mrs. Vanderbilt
18. Eleanor Rigby
19. Something (Fan screams out "Georgy Formby!" when Paul tells the story "Yeah man!" Paul yells back.
20. SingThe Changes
21. Band On The Run
22. Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da ("Hey! We'd like to do a song now which is an old song but it's a song we've never done in America ever before live until this tour. So you are amongst all the very first people to hear us do it.")
23. Back In The USSR
24. I've Got A Feeling
"People ask us why are we always changing guitars. We have guitars on the shelf.
I thought it was interesting for guitar players . People are saying... what is HE talking about?"
