For my baby Joey:

By now you’d think the Eagles would have done everything a band could possible accomplish since the group came together in Los Angeles in 1971. That is, everything but play the Hollywood Bowl, but that will change come April of next year.

The Eagles will play the Hollywood Bowl April 16, 17 and 20.

American Express card members can purchase tickets beginning Monday, Dec. 7 at 10 a.m. through Sunday, Dec. 13 at 10 p.m.

The general onsale begins Monday, Dec. 14 at 10 a.m.

The band will also provide VIP packages. For more information on all the different ways you can purchase tickets to see the Eagles at the Hollywood Bowl, click here for the band’s Web site.

No Sweet Charmed Life  ...... but Bono shows up frequently :

" Bono's Dell visit no secret  "

" Before Omahans went all-out Twitter and text crazy, an international rock star might have been able to show up at a local bar — and the masses would read about it later.

As it happened Thursday night, U2's Bono made a surprise visit to the Dundee Dell.

Within 15 minutes, the place was jammed.

“It's funny to see how fast the word got out — how social media has changed things,” said manager Monique Huston.

Dolled-up smart phone- responding fans, mostly females, rushed to the Dell.

Already at the bar was World-Herald editorial cartoonist Jeff Koterba, who also plays in an Irish band. Not really the starstruck type, Koterba said he even gawked — at first because the guy walking in had on sunglasses at about 9:45 p.m.

“You just don't expect to look up and see Bono,” Koterba said. “It was bizarre.”

Bono was with an entourage of about 15, including friend Susie Buffett. Buffett serves on the board of DATA (Debt, AIDS, Trade, Africa), a group Bono that helped form in 2002 to raise awareness of poverty and AIDS in Africa.

The humanitarian superstar has dropped by the Dell on previous trips to Omaha, often for breakfast. Huston said she heard he would be in town for more than a day, and she hopes he stops in again.

On Thursday, he stayed for 1½ hours.

He signed autographs. He posed for pictures. Some appeared nearly instantaneously on Facebook pages.  "

Fight to save horse sanctuary

The adopted daughter of Sir Paul McCartney has stepped in to try to save a horse sanctuary from closure.

Heather, 46, spent the summer working at The Horse Refuge in Tenterden, Kent, and fell in love with the 40 animals.

The farm is due to go on the market next month after the owner decided to sell instead of rent to sanctuary boss Sara Ross.

Heather, who is the daughter of Sir Paul's first wife Linda, lives with the ex-Beatle in nearby Peasmarsh, East Sussex.

"As a child I was always happiest when I was on a horse," she said.

"Sara takes in horses that have been ill-treated. To lose them would be devastating."

" U2 Tour Should Gross $750 Million "

December 08, 2009

" The U2 tour will probably gross $750 million by the time it finishes in 2010, according to band manager Paul McGuinness.

He told the Financial Times that the 44 sold-out dates since June, which saw the band play in front of 3.2 million people, grossed about $320 million.

With a similar number of dates planned for 2010, he calculates the full tour should gross about $750 million including merchandise sales, dwarfing the $389 million the act grossed on the Vertigo tour in 2005 and 2006 ( .... and necessary to beat ABB Gross ) .

He says using the 360º stage has enabled each venue to increase capacity by one-fifth. Partly because of the custom-built, claw-shaped set, the tour costs are about $750,000 a day, "whether we play or not."

He says the tour should still be "highly profitable" but very often that gross figure is carelessly written about as having gone "straight into Bono’s pocket."

McGuinness also told the FT about the importance of attention to detail when auditing the band’s payments from record companies and publishers.

"On not one of those occasions did we fail to uncover an underpayment," he said.

A Senator’s Gift to the Jews, Nonreturnable
By MARK LEIBOVICH
Published: December 8, 2009
WASHINGTON — The canon of Hanukkah songs written by Mormon senators from Utah just got a little bigger.

Senator Orrin G. Hatch, a solemn-faced Republican with a soft spot for Jews and a love of Barbra Streisand, has penned a catchy holiday tune, “Eight Days of Hanukkah.”

The video was posted Tuesday night on Tablet, an online magazine of Jewish lifestyle and culture, just in time for Hanukkah.

Known around the Senate as a prolific writer of Christian hymns and patriotic melodies, Mr. Hatch, 75, said this was his first venture into Jewish music. It will not be his last.

“Anything I can do for the Jewish people, I will do,” Mr. Hatch said in an interview before heading to the Senate floor to debate an abortion amendment. “Mormons believe the Jewish people are the chosen people, just like the Old Testament says.”

In short, he loves the Jews. And based on an early sampling of listeners, the feeling could be mutual.

“Watching Orrin Hatch in the studio, I said to myself that nothing this great will ever happen to me again,” said Alana Newhouse, the editor-in-chief of Tablet.

Set against a bouncy synthesizer beat, the song begins:

“Hanukkah, oh Hanukkah,

The festival of light/

In Jerusalem,

The oil burned bright.”

Adding to the project’s only-in-America mishmash is that the song is performed by Rasheeda Azar, a Syrian-American vocalist from Indiana. But Mr. Hatch is the song’s unquestioned prime mover, or macher. He is featured in the video, sitting stoic in the studio, head bobbing slightly, donning earphones and contributing backup vocals.

The song’s contagious refrain goes:

“Eight days of Hanukkah,

Come let’s celebrate.

Eight days of Hanukkah,

Let’s celebrate tonight, Hey!”

At one point, Mr. Hatch unbuttons his white dress shirt to expose the golden mezuzah necklace he wears every day. Mezuzahs also adorn the doorways of his homes in Washington and Utah. Mr. Hatch keeps a Torah in his Senate office.

“Not a real Torah, but sort of a mock Torah,” he said. “I feel sorry I’m not Jewish sometimes.”

The genesis of “Eight Days of Hanukkah” came a decade ago. Mr. Hatch was considering a run for the presidency in the campaign eventually won by George W. Bush (Mr. Hatch wound up writing a song for Mr. Bush’s second inaugural, titled “Heal Our Land”). He was discussing his love of songwriting with the writer Jeffrey Goldberg, a well-known mensch-about-town in Washington with a longtime grievance against “the general lameness of Hanukkah music.” (As a columnist for The Jerusalem Post years earlier, Mr. Goldberg had organized a “write-a-new-song-for-Hanukkah contest” that attracted 200 entries, most of them — in his estimation — “dreck.”)

He asked Mr. Hatch if he would write a Hanukkah song. The senator said he would, but never did.

Mr. Goldberg, who now writes for The Atlantic, mentioned the decade-old promise in his blog last year a few days before Christmas. A day later, Mr. Hatch sent him an apologetic e-mail message that included the first five stanzas of “Eight Days of Hanukkah.”

“I am willing to serve as a Semitic song muse for any United States senator,” Mr. Goldberg said. “God forbid any of the Jewish senators write a Hanukkah song.”

Mr. Hatch enlisted his collaborator, Madeline Stone, a Jewish songwriter from the Upper West Side of Manhattan who specializes in Christian music. “I’m a pretty liberal Democrat,” Ms. Stone said. “But it became more about the music and the friendship for me and Orrin.”

The song was recorded in October at a studio in Manhattan.

Mr. Hatch speaks of “Eight Days of Hanukkah” as a gift to the Jewish people. “This song means more to me than most of the songs I have ever written,” he said. “People need to know the story of Hanukkah. It was a miracle.”

He said his ultimate goal would be for his idol, Ms. Streisand, to perform one of his songs. “It would be good for her and good for me,” Mr. Hatch said, while acknowledging that given her outspoken liberalism, that union might require another miracle

Put on your yalmulka, here comes hanukkah
Its so much fun-akkah to celebrate hanukkah,

Hanukkah is the festival of lights,
Instead of one day of presents, we have eight crazy nights.

When you feel like the only kid in town without a x-mas tree, heres a list of
People who are jewish, just like you and me:

David lee roth lights the menorrah,
So do james caan, kirk douglas, and the late dinah shore-ah

Guess who eats together at the karnickey deli,
Bowzer from sha-na-na, and arthur fonzerrelli.

Paul newmans half jewish; goldie hawns half too,
Put them together--what a fine lookin' jew!

You don't need deck the halls or jingle bell rock
Cause you can spin the dreidl with captain kirk and mr. spock--both jewish!

Put on your yalmulka, it's time for hanukkah,
The owner of the seattle super sonic-ahs celebrates hanukkah.

O.j. simpson-- not a jew!
But guess who is...hall of famer rod carew--(he converted!)

We got ann landers and her sister dear abby,
Harrison fords a quarter jewish--not too shabby!

Some people think that ebeneezer scrooge is,
Well, he's not, but guess who is:all three stooges.

So many jews are in show biz--
Tom cruise isnt, but I heard his agent is.

Tell your friend veronica, it's time you celebrate hanukkah
I hope I get a harmonica, on this lovely, lovely hanukkah.

So drink your gin-and-tonic-ah, and smoke your mara-juanic-ah,
If you really, really wanna-kah, have a happy, happy, happy, happy
Hanukkah¡¡. happy hanukka!

Sir Paul McCartney has said if Rage Against The Machine beats X Factor winner Joe McElderry to the Christmas number one it would be "funny".

The veteran singer, who appeared on the final of the X Factor last weekend told Sky News that if the rock band topped the chart it would "prove a point".

Mid-week sales figures showed that the 1992 hit Killing In The Name was beating McElderry's The Climb.

The 18-year-old was crowned the winner of the ITV1 show on Sunday.

Earlier this week, The Official Charts Company (OCC) said it was "a very exciting battle" between the two acts.

Great reaction

McElderry's song was released digitally at midnight on Sunday, giving it less time to rack up sales for this week's chart than Rage Against The Machine.

A Facebook group aiming to get Rage Against The Machine to number one has attracted hundreds of thousands of members.

"Everyone expects Joe to do it," said Sir Paul.

"If he goes to number one then good luck to him. He's just some kid with a career ahead. I've got nothing against that, but it would be kind of funny if Rage Against The Machine got it because it would prove a point."

The Christmas number one will be announced on Sunday
The star said he got some great reaction from people about his performance on the X Factor.

"We got great feedback on the streets the next day. It's my claim to fame now."

X Factor judge Simon Cowell has criticised the campaign, but McElderry told BBC Breakfast that he was not taking it personally.

"I'm not really seeing it as a personal attack, because I think if any other person would have won it would have been the same case," he said.

"It's more against The X Factor than the actual winner. I would be disappointed if it's not number one - but it's out of my hands and there's nothing I can do about it and I just hope people get behind us and support us and buy the single."

He also admitted he is yet to hear the song by his chart rivals.

Apology

On Thursday, Rage Against The Machine appeared on BBC 5 live and band singer Zack de la Rocha swore four times during their live performance of their song.

A BBC spokesman said: "We had spoken to the band repeatedly beforehand and they had agreed not to swear."

He added: "When they did, we faded the band out and said sorry immediately.

"We apologise again to anyone who was offended."

Guitarist Tom Morello said the internet campaign "tapped into the silent majority of the people in the UK who are tired of being spoon-fed one schmaltzy ballad after another".

Some of the proceeds made from the single will be donated to a UK-based music charity.

The official Christmas number one will be announced on Sunday.

" ..... went to the concert with my mother (55), me (32).

Unfortunately, we were seated in Block 104... not great seats. Nevertheless, we tried to get closer to the stage. German security was very strict, and let nobody through. They told us if we tried to move up again they would remove us from the arena!

When the show started we accepted the fact we had to stay at our seats. We danced, jumped and sang loud, going totally crazy! Paul's people must have noticed. A woman from the crew, approached us. Her name was Shelley and she said, "I've been watching you the whole time... you are having so much fun! Please come with me." She took us to the stage and sat us in the FRONT ROW!!! We had a terrific time!

At the end of the show, Paul signed some items on stage. One fan got his "Help" album autographed.

Macca Eyeing O2 Residency?

Posted on Monday December 21, 2009 at 09:01 AM
Prince did it. So did Britney and the Spice Girls. Now Paul McCartney is hinting that he’d like his own string of residency dates at London’s O2 arena.

McCartney, who is wrapping up his winter tour at the O2 Tuesday night, told Absolute Radio he “quite fancied the idea,” according to BBC News.

“Last time I ever did that was when The Beatles used to do Christmas shows, and it was brilliant because … you would be there for a week or two.

“It was fantastic, just dossing in your overcoat and everything."

McCartney’s O2 gig is his only U.K. date on a short tour of European cities. The former Beatle told DJ Geoff Lloyd that he wanted to do a series of shows in the U.K., but there wasn’t enough time to arrange the dates.

“So I rung my promoter and said, ‘Hey, can we do some English dates and can we play maybe Scotland,” McCartney said. “He had a brilliant idea of the Union Jack tour, it was going to be Scotland, England, Wales, Ireland, but he couldn’t get the availability at such short notice.”
