After ballroom dancing, Heather Mills now puts her career on ice





If anyone thought that Heather Mills would just sit back and count the money following her £24million divorce from Sir Paul McCartney, they clearly need to think again.
For after tackling the U.S. version of Strictly Come Dancing, Mills hopes to appear in the ITV celebrity skating contest, Dancing On Ice.
The 41-year-old former model, who lost her left leg after being knocked over by a police motorcycle in 1993, has been learning to skate with an instructor at a rink near her home in East Sussex.

The first pictures of Mills as she gingerly steps on to the ice show that she has attached a white ice skating boot to her prosthetic limb.
And she then gives a tentative and shaky smile as she moves around the rink, before managing to skate a few steps by herself.
After a few minutes she was able to perform a few moves unaided, without the need to employ the padding strategically placed around her rear in case of a fall.
A friend told the Daily Mail: 'Heather is a big fan of Dancing On Ice and she would be thrilled and delighted to take part. She will tackle it in the normal way, with hard work and determination'
The next series starts in January.

Mills’ four-year marriage to ex-Beatle Sir Paul McCartney, 67, ended in May 2006 and after a tempestuous divorce battle, the divorce was made final in May 2008.

She was awarded a lump sum of £16.5 million, together with assets of £7.8 million, which included the properties she owned at the time.
The total was £24.3 million, plus payments of £35,000 a year, for a nanny and school costs for their daughter Beatrice, who will celebrate her sixth birthday on Wednesday.
Following the divorce, she took part on American TV talent contest, Dancing With The Stars, the US version of Strictly Come Dancing, where she stunned viewers by telling them: 'I'm Heather Mills. I've got an artificial leg and there's a good chance it could fall off.'

Despite her disability, she flaunted backbends and flips during the reality show, even managing to perform a jive, despite the dance being notorious for its rigors on knees and joints. She also suffered a fall during the Samba.

At the time, Mills said: 'It's about focusing in the ability rather than the disability, and you can overcome anything.'

Dancing On Ice stars Olympic gold champions Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean who mentor a line-up of contestants who have to perform a choreographed routine each week.
The series starts in January and 13 million tuned in to watch X Factor runner-up Ray Quinn win the title in March.
Last night, Ms Mills’ spokesman refused to comment. An ITV spokesman said: 'We will confirm our line-up for Dancing On Ice nearer the time.'

Any band these days would love to sell a million records, but for U2, that high number is not enough. The multi-platinum rockers told the Associated Press that they're displeased with the sales of their latest album, No Line on the Horizon. Recent U2 albums have been selling in the three to four million range, while No Line has only broken the million mark. Bono and company see factors such as the lack of a hit song and the fickle public's need for a "diet of pop" are contributing to this so-called slump.

"We weren't really in that mindset," Bono said about the lack of a commercial hit from No Line. "We felt that the album was a kind of an almost extinct species, and we should approach it in totality and create a mood and a feeling, and a beginning, middle and an end. And I suppose we've made a work that is a bit challenging."

"The commercial challenges have to be confronted," bassist Adam Clayton said. "But I think, in a sense, the more interesting challenge is, 'What is rock 'n' roll in this changing world?' Because, to some extent, the concept of the music fan -- the concept of the person who buys music and listens to music for the pleasure of music itself -- is an outdated idea."

That said, this isn't the first time that U2 is failing their own high expectations. Remember the group's 1997 album Pop? Widely considered the group's worst album, that too failed to yield a mega-commercial hit that they had achieved with The Joshua Tree and Achtung Baby. That Bono says the new material is more challenging is indicative of this facet, but still, the band continues to try and reach new audiences with a recent partnership with BlackBerry and an appearance on Saturday Night Live. So they're not giving up hope.

All of this said, U2 probably doesn't have much to worry about. They're currently enjoying record-setting numbers for their 360 Tour and have an ace up their sleeve -- next week will mark the release of the deluxe version of 1984's The Unforgettable Fire, which featured a little song everyone might have heard of called "Pride (In the Name of Love)."

CHER's former daughter CHASTITY BONO has opened up about the sex-change procedure which will officially transform a she into a he in a candid new TV interview.

Now known as Chaz, Bono underwent months of gender reassignment treatment at the beginning of last year (08).

Bono and now speaks in a deeper tone and reveals hormones have changed a lot about his body.

In a new interview with news show Entertainment Tonight, which will debut on Thursday (29Oct09), Chaz reveals he felt like a male from "the time I was a child," and adds he's really beginning to feel like a guy: "I shave about once a week now."
