" May 29, 2009 -- Ticket News (Unconfirmed)

Paul McCartney to be first artist to play New York's Citi Field

Ticket News has learned through various reliable touring industry executives that Paul McCartney will be the first artist to perform at Citi Field in Flushing, NY. The three shows are currently scheduled for July 17-18, and the concerts, more than 40 years after McCartney's iconic performance at Flushing's Shea Stadium with The Beatles, will be promoted by AEG Live. An official announcement is probably two weeks down the line, and there may be a third date added on July 21.

The three concerts will occur during the New York Mets extended All-Star break: their last game is on July 12 and their next scheduled game is on July 27. The All-Star break is July 13-15.

Shea Stadium, which was rich in rock and roll history, was replaced by Citi Field as the Mets ballpark earlier this year. Billy Joel was the last performer to play Shea with two shows last fall and was presumed to be the rocker to inaugurate Citi Field.

In addition to The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, Jethro Tull, Grand Funk Railroad, The Who, Simon & Garfunkel, The Police and Elton John & Eric Clapton also performed at Shea.

McCartney's only upcoming confirmed concert is on July 15 at the Halifax Commons in Halifax, NS.

McCartney's publicist and AEG Live did not return queries about the upcoming shows. "

U2 have penned roughly “fifty to sixty” tracks during their recent studio sessions that stretch from Morocco to Dublin to France, where Bono wrote in to U2.com to discuss the band’s new album, now due out in the early stages of 2009 rather than this coming holiday season. “We’ve hit a rich songwriting vein and we don’t want to stop,” Bono said. “This is our chance for us to defy gravity once again.” Bono said this new album — coming on the heels of two “very personal” albums in All You Can’t Leave Behind and How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb — attempts to recapture “the transition that took us from The Joshua Tree to Achtung Baby.” As for when fans can expect hearing the fruits of the sessions with producers Brian Eno and Daniel Lanois, Bono says “If it was just up to me they’d be out already! But early next year people will be able to start hearing what we’ve been doing. We want 2009 to be our year.”

" May 31, 2009 -- CBC News (Canada)

Fans snap up McCartney tickets for Halifax show

A hard day's night paid off for Paul McCartney fans.

About 65 people lined up outside the Halifax Metro Centre on Friday morning to snatch up tickets for the ex-Beatle's July 11 concert.

Thousands of other McCartney fans picked up tickets at grocery stores around the city, while others purchased them online.

Greg Guthro camped out overnight outside the Metro Centre. When the ticket office opened at 9am, his patience was rewarded.

"We're second in line!" he said before calling his brother with the good news. "It's worth the wait."

Colleen Clarke and her husband Dan Galleti are pleased with their "fabulous" seats for the outdoor show.
Is Fabian O'Brien a fan? Check out his tattoo.

"I was growing up in Herring Cove at the age of 10 when I fell in love with Paul McCartney," said Clarke.

Fabian O'Brien can't wait to hear McCartney play anything.

"He can get up there and recite the alphabet and it'll be fine," said O'Brien, showing off a tattoo of the Beatles on his arm.

Early-bird tickets cost $136 a piece, including fees. Between 5,000 and 6,000 VIP tickets were available for $316 each.

Local promoters expect 60,000 fans for the concert in the Halifax Common, the same park where the Rolling Stones played to about 50,000 fans in September 2006.

The July 11 show is McCartney's only concert in Canada this year. "
