" Beatle George Harrison gets Hollywood star "

" Hundreds of George Harrison's biggest fans and best friends, including Paul McCartney and Tom Petty, turned out Tuesday to see a posthumous star for the quiet Beatle unveiled during a raucous celebration on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Fellow former Beatle McCartney stood next to Harrison's widow, Olivia, and son, Dhani, as the star was unveiled in front of the landmark Capitol Records building.

"Thank you very much!" he yelled to hundreds of screaming fans wearing Beatles T-shirts and holding signs, albums and flowers to honor Harrison.

The only other surviving member of the band, Ringo Starr, did not attend. But one of Harrison's friends, Monty Python's Eric Idle, said he had recently spoken to Starr.

"He said, 'What about mine?'" Idle said. "I said, 'They don't give drummers stars.'"

Harrison already shared a Walk of Fame star with all of the Beatles, but only he and John Lennon, who was shot to death by a deranged fan in 1980, have their own stars. Harrison, the youngest of the Beatles, died of lung cancer in 2001 at age 58.

"He was a beautiful, mystical man living in a material world," Olivia Harrison said of her late husband.

Standing next to her, Dhani Harrison uttered the mantra "Hare Krishna."

Incense smoke snaked into the air during the dedication as Petty, sporting dark sunglasses, mingled with such celebrity guests as Jeff Lynne, T-Bone Burnett and Tom Hanks.

"He had the most remarkable sense of humor," said Idle, who talked about having a hard time knowing what to say about his friend and fellow Englishman.

After the ceremony, Idle, Olivia and Dhani Harrison, McCartney and his girlfriend, Nancy Shevell, and others attended a luncheon at Capitol Records' spacious Studio A. They, Lynne, Petty, Ed Begley Jr., Hanks and his wife, Rita Wilson, and others hugged and chatted while sipping champagne and dining on vegan food.

Born in Liverpool, England, in 1943, Harrison was 15 when he and fellow schoolmate McCartney joined Lennon in the group that would become the Beatles.

The Beatles' lead guitarist, Harrison also wrote several of the group's best songs, from "Taxman," "Here Comes the Sun" and "Within You, Without You" to "Something" and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." His love of Eastern music and culture also influenced such classic Beatles recordings as "The White Album" and "Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band."

Harrison launched a successful solo career after the Beatles broke up in 1970, releasing the acclaimed "All Things Must Pass" album that same year and the "The Concert For Bangladesh" in 1971. He went on to record nearly a dozen solo albums and recorded with Petty, Lynne, Bob Dylan and Roy Orbison as part of the supergroup The Traveling Wilburys in the 1980s and early 1990s.

He also produced numerous films, including "The Life of Brian" and "Time Bandits."

Capitol/EMI, which sponsored the star, announced Tuesday that a career-spanning collection of Harrison's solo hits, titled "Let It Roll: Songs by George Harrison," will be released in June.

Martin Scorsese is directing a documentary on Harrison that includes interviews and extensive archival materials. "

' ..is paul mccartney touring this spring ? '

" April 15, 2009 -- PM.com

Coachella Q & A with Paul

Paul McCartney will perform live at Coachella Festival on Friday (at 10pm).

1. Have you spent any time in the Palm Springs area? Does the desert inspire you?

I love the desert intensely but have not spent any time in the Palm Springs area, although we did shoot some pictures for the Venus And Mars album cover in northern California in the desert. The desert I know best is Arizona and I love it. I love being there.

2. Why at this point in your illustrious career, did you decide to perform at a U.S. festival?

Because I was asked and it seemed like a great idea. I like that it's in the desert, I like that it's the first festival of the year and everyone I talk to told me it was the coolest festival.

3. Will The Fireman be getting a live outing?

We are hoping to bring The Fireman along and persuade him to do a couple of numbers.

4. How do you feel about playing to a crowd as diverse as the Coachella audience? What do you hope the crowd will walk away with?

Their feet! I like diverse audiences; I kind of get them whether I like it or not my audience often has a big generational span. The spirit at a festival event is very free and so fits with my way of thinking.

5. Are you planning anything different or special for this performance?

Yeah! We will do a few things we haven't done before and change some of the songs from our normal set.

6. In 2004 you warmed up to Glastonbury with a European tour, how have you been warming up for Coachella?

By playing for David Lynch's 'Change Begins Within' foundation in NYC.

7. Do you feel in the festival setting that there's a certain level of camaraderie among the performers?

Yeah I think performers and audience all know it's a party and we are all part of something special it's a coming together of like-minds which is always pretty exciting.

8. What are your expectations from this show?

I expect to have a great evening out and groove with 'ma people'.  "

KATY PERRY  :  " I KISSED A GIRL "

" This was never the way I planned, not my intention
I got so brave, drink in hand, lost my discretion
It's not what I'm used to just want to try you on
I'm curious, for you, caught my attention

I kissed a girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry chapstick
I kissed a girl just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don't mind it
It felt so wrong it felt so right
Don't mean I'm in love tonight
I kissed a girl and I liked it, I liked it

No I don't even know your name, it doesn't matter
You're my experimental game, just human nature
It's not what good girls do not how they should behave
My head is so confused hard to obey

I kissed a girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry chapstick
I kissed a girl just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don't mind it
It felt so wrong it felt so right
Don't mean I'm in love tonight
I kissed a girl and I liked it, I liked it

Us girls we are so magical soft skin red lips so kissable
Hard to resist so touchable too good to deny it
Ain't no big deal it's innocent

I kissed a girl and I liked it
The taste of her cherry chapstick
I kissed a girl just to try it
I hope my boyfriend don't mind it
It felt so wrong it felt so right
Don't mean I'm in love tonight
I kissed a girl and I liked it, I liked it "

' chat on the couch tonight ? '

Another suburban Lugar morning.
Grandmother screaming at the wall.

We have to shout above the din of our Rice Crispies
We can't hear anything at all.
Mummy Lugar chants her litany of boredom and frustration,
But we know all her suicides are fake.

Daddy Lugar only stares into the distance
There's only so much more that he can take.
Many miles away something crawls from the slime
At the bottom of a dark Brazen Head Pub .

Another industrial ugly morning
The factory belches filth into the sky.
Maxy walks unhindered through the picket lines today,
He ( Lugar ) doesn't think to wonder why.
The secretaries pout and preen like cheap tarts in a red light street,
But all Maxy ever thinks to do is watch.
And every single meeting with his so-called superior
Is a humiliating kick in the crotch.
Many miles away something crawls to the surface
Of a dark Brazen Head Pub .

Another working day has ended.
Only the rush hour hell to face.
Packed like lemmings into shiny metal boxes.
Contestants in a suicidal race.
Daddy Lugar grips the wheel and stares alone into the distance,
He knows that something somewhere has to break.
Max sees the family home now looming in the headlights,
the pain upstairs that makes his eyeballs ache.
Many miles away there's a shadow on the door
Of a cottage on the shore
Of a dark Brazen Head Pub ...............

many miles away .....................................

many miles away ................................................................... ( fade to white  -- like an angel )

" This is why I love being a Jew "

" Our condition, in Israel, has never been better than it is now!
Only the television and the media make people think that the

end of the world is near.. Only 65 years ago, Jews were brought

to death like sheep to slaughter.

NO country, NO army.

Only 60 years ago, seven Arab countries declared war on little

Israel, the Jewish State, just a few hours after it was established.

We were 650,000 Jews against the rest of the Arab world.

No IDF (Israeli Defense Forces) or Air Force.
We were only a small group of stubborn people with

nowhere to go.

Remember: Lebanon , Syria , Iraq , Jordan , Egypt , Libya , and

Saudi Arabia, they all attacked at once.

The state that the United Nations "gave" us was 65% desert.

We started it from zero. Only 41 years ago, we fought three

of the strongest countries in the Middle East , and we crushed

them in Six Days.

Over the years we fought different coalitions of Arab countries

with modern armies and with huge amounts of Russian-Soviet

ammunition, and we still won.

Today we have a beautiful country, a powerful Army, a strong
Air Force, an adequate Navy and a thriving high tech industry.

Intel, Microsoft, and IBM have all developed their businesses here.

Our doctors have won important prizes in the medical

development field.

We turned the desert into a prosperous land.

We sell oranges, flowers, and vegetables around the world.

We launched our own satellite! Three satellites at once!
We are in good company; together with the USA (280 million
residents), Russia (220 million residents), China (1.3 billion residents)
and Europe ( France , England and Germany 35 million residents).
We are one of the only countries in the world that have launched something into space!

Israel today is among the few powerful countries that have

nuclear technology & capabilities. ( We will never admit it, but

everyone knows.)

To think that only 65 years ago we were disgraced and hopeless.

We crawled out from the burning crematoriums of Europe ..

We won in all our wars.
With a little bit of nothing we built an empire.

Who are Khaled Mashal (leader of Hamas) or Hassan Nasrallah

(leader of Hezbollah) trying to frighten? They are amusing us.

As we celebrate Independence Day and Passover, let us not

forget what this holy day is all about; we overcame everything.

We overcame the Greeks,

We overcame the Romans,

We overcame the Spanish Inquisition,

We overcame the Russians pogrom,

We overcame Hitler, we overcame Germany and

overcame the Holocaust,
We overcame the armies of seven countries.

Relax friends, we will overcome our current enemies.
Never mind where you look in human history.
Think about it, the Jewish nation, our condition has never

been better than now.

So let's lift our heads up and remember:

Never mind which country or culture tries to harm us or erase

us from the world. We will still exist and persevere.

Egypt ? - Anyone know where the Egyptian empire disappeared to?
The Romans? Is anyone speaking Latin today?
The Third Reich? Did anyone hear news from them lately?

And look at us, the Bible nation from slavery in Egypt,
we are still here, still speaking the same language.

Exactly here, exactly now.

Maybe the Arabs don't know it yet, but we are an eternal nation.

All the time that we will keep our identity, we will stay eternal.

So, sorry, that we are not worrying, complaining, crying, or fearing
Business here is (fine). It can definitely be much better, but it is still fine.

Don't pay attention to the nonsense in the media,
they will not tell you about our festivals here in Israel or about the
people that continue living, going out, meeting friends.

Yes, sometimes morale is down, so what?
This is only because we are mourning the dead,
while the Arabs and the Moslems are celebrating suicide, spilled blood and death.
And this is the reason we will win after all. "

" Sir Paul dedicates show to Linda

Sir Paul's set included two encores and ended with a Hey Jude sing-a-long

Sir Paul McCartney has headlined the Coachella music festival in the Californian desert on the anniversary of the death of his wife Linda.

In an emotional performance, the ex-Beatle dedicated The Long and Winding Road and My Love to Linda, who died from breast cancer in 1998.

He played a two-and-a-half hour set for 75,000 fans on the first night of the festival, one of the biggest in the US.

The Killers and The Cure are topping the bill on Saturday and Sunday.

Sir Paul told the BBC the significance of the date meant he almost did not agree to perform.

"Linda introduced me to the desert because she used to go to Arizona a lot, so I just fell in love with it," he said.

"At first I thought, oh god, I can't do a show on that day. But then it was like, well, no, it's the desert, it's music, it's rock 'n' roll... I'm doing it for Linda tonight."

Sir Paul's set included two encores and ended with a massive Hey Jude sing-a-long.

It was his first performance at the show, held 120 miles east of Los Angeles, which he had only come across recently.

"I'd actually never heard of it," he said. "Nigel Godrich, Radiohead's producer, [who] I worked with a couple of albums ago, he comes here every year and he kept saying: 'I love it, I love it, I love it.'

"And I thought, well, it's gotta have something 'cause he's got good taste."

The festival features a healthy line up of British artists, also including Paul Weller, Morrissey, Franz Ferdinand, The Ting Tings and White Lies.

Adele and Duffy made waves at the same festival last year, and Sir Paul agreed that it was a good time for UK acts.

"We make good music, that's the nice thing about Britain," he said. "We seem to produce people who love rock 'n' roll, love soul, dance music... whereas it just used to be America really in my book.

"But one of the big forces in music today is Britain. Yo for Britain I say!"

Figures released this week showed that one in every 10 albums bought in the US last year was by a British artist. "

................................................................................
...................

April 18, 2009 -- Los Angeles Times

" Paul McCartney's fab night at Coachella

Much ado was made the minute Coachella Music & Arts Festival chief Paul Tollett announced that Paul McCartney would be one of the 2009 headliners. He's too old, some griped. Coachella's for Gen X and Y, not the dreaded Boomers, others sniped. He's too populist...he'll dull Coachella's hip factor.

The verdict from his Coachella debut on Friday? Never underestimate the power of a Beatle.

Perhaps some fans stayed away because a member of the world's most popular rock band showed up, but for the ones who didn't, the night belonged to Paul.

Pity the poor acts who had to go on opposite him while 95% of those still on hand for the conclusion of Friday's opening show packed themselves like so many sardines as close to the big Coachella stage as they could. The Crystal Method still drew a few thousand dance-minded fans into the Sahara Tent, but thrash rock band Genghis Tron only landed 100 or so for its evening closing show, while Gustavo Santoalalla's scintillating group Bajofondo pulled in 700 or 800.

Many on hand for McCartney couldn't get any nearer than a quarter mile away, and they were grateful for video screens about 40 feet tall on either side of the stage magnifying that still-cherubic smile for all to see.

McCartney in turn delivered a two-hour-plus show in as strong a voice as he's exhibited in his Southland stops in recent years, and one with a goodly number of surprise choices that took the set well beyond the Beatles/Wings greatest hits run-through he easily could have fallen back on.

He opened with "Jet," from his 1975 album "Band on the Run," rocking hard at the outset as if to counter those who consider him an overly sentimental pop romantic. Which he is, but he used Coachella to exploit the visceral energy of early rock that so strongly influenced him, John Lennon, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, especially in his rendition of Big Joe Turner's raucous "Honey Hush."

"Let Me Roll It," a soul-rock shouter, found him as gritty as one can get who has so powerful an attraction to pop melody and fetching harmonies. He included a couple from his more experimentalist side project "The Fireman," along with individual tributes to his wife Linda, who died 11 years ago to the day on Friday, Lennon and Harrison.

"It's an emotional day for me," McCartney, 66, said as though he were chatting with a few friends in his living room rather than tens of thousands of cheering fans. "But that's OK. That's good."

Even when it seemed he couldn't top himself after a fireworks-laden rendition of his James Bond movie theme "Live and Let Die," after which he led a monumental singalong on "Hey Jude," out came three more Beatles barnstomers: "Birthday," "Can't Buy Me Love" and "Lady Madonna."

Hip comes and hip goes, but McCartney proved once again, a great pop song lasts forever.

Sounds like Macca kicked some ass in the desert friday night Joey You rock!
