"Live And Let Die" is best Bond song ever

Penned by Liverpool legend Sir Paul McCartney, the song "Live And Let Die" has been voted the best James Bond song ever.

A poll conducted by music giants HMV and social networking site getcloser.com, found the 70's hit received nearly a quarter of the votes open to fans of the movie series.

Composed specially for the film by Sir Paul and wife Linda, the song became the first Bond theme to be nominated for an Academy Award.

Performed by Macca and his former band Wings, the rock classic was used in the 1973 flick of the same name which was the eighth in the collection and the first to feature Roger Moore.

Having bagged 23 per cent of all the votes the track forced Dame Shirley Bassey to settle for second and third in the list with her hits Goldfinger, and Diamonds Are Forever.

Voted by fans the top ten Bond songs finished:

1. Live And Let Die - Paul McCartney and Wings

2. Goldfinger - Dame Shirley Bassey

3. Diamonds Are Forever - Dame Shirley Bassey

4. Nobody Does It Better - Carly Simon

5. James Bond Theme (Dr. No) - John Barry Seven and Orchestra

6. We Have All The Time In The World - Louis Armstrong

7. GoldenEye - Tina Turner

8. View To A Kill - Duran Duran

9. Living Daylights - A-Ha

10. James Bond Theme - John Arnold (ANI) "

Review by hueylong

Just back from the Grand Prix. The race was...well...can't see the point in standing in one spot watching cars pass you 'real quick' time and time again...

I was in the 'My Generation Platinum' section for the gig which was up at the stage. The boys played great and were in a great mood though Pete was getting the shits with someone's camera flash blinding him now and then.

Same set as for the Winery but no Bargain or Eminence Front.

5:15 was outstanding as was You Better You Bet. I remember when they played it in 2004 in Melbourne and I was surprised how much I enjoyed it as I always classed it as a pretty mediocre song. Tonight I realised that Zak really cooks on that one and it seems a little quicker which really gives it some drive.

Standard encore with Amazing journey being fantastic.

Pete was witty tonight. Some guy kept asking him to smash his guitar. Pete responded that in the old days when he smashed his guitar it was the end of the show. If he smashed his guitar now, show's over. He then looked at the guy and called him ( in a long drawn out way ) a fucking idiot.

All in all, I rate it higher than the 2004 show.

The weather was also perfect for an outdoor concert with no wind and a nice temperature.

" March 30 2009 -- PM.com (Official Update)

Paul Pledges Support To OneVoice Movement

Sir Paul Joins Honorary Board Of Grassroots Organization Working To End Palestinian-Israeli Conflict

The OneVoice Movement today announced that Sir Paul McCartney has officially joined its International Board of Advisors, which includes other celebrities such as Danny DeVito and Jason Alexander, as well as international dignitaries and political figures like Dennis Ross.

McCartney first spoke with Israeli and Palestinian representatives of the group, which seeks to empower the moderate majorities of Israel, Palestine, and citizens internationally to work toward a two state solution to the conflict, during his visit to Israel at the end of September 2008. He met with OneVoice Israel Chairwoman, Irit Admoni Perlman, in addition to staff members and youth activists from the movement. At the meeting, he expressed his support for OneVoice's activities on both the Israeli and Palestinian sides. Speaking to Nisreen Shahin, OneVoice Palestine's Executive Director, Sir Paul reaffirmed his commitment to OneVoice's moderate, grassroots approach to ending the conflict.

He also travelled to Palestine, to bring his message of peace to the West Bank as well. Later that evening at his concert at Tel Aviv's Park HaYarkon, he and members of his band wore OneVoice pins in a show of support for the movement and the ideas it promotes.

Said McCartney, "Having met representatives of the association OneVoice, I was impressed, first of all, by the fact that half of the organization is Palestinian and half is Israeli. Almost 650,000 people have signed on to their manifesto, supporting their steadfast work to bring about a negotiated solution, and peace in the region." He went on to say of OneVoice: "They told me that the vast majority of people in both societies are moderates and simply want a better life for their families and themselves. This gave me great hope that, one day, people like them will help to bring about a peaceful resolution to the troubles in the area. I am, therefore, happy to lend my support in this way to the cause of peace."

Over the past six years, OneVoice has built a "human infrastructure" of youth leaders and citizen activists working to mobilize their communities and push their elected representatives to achieve a two state agreement. The movement has trained over 2,000 youth leaders in Israel and Palestine, and counts on its board over 60 world leaders, dignitaries, celebrities, business people, and political figures. "

" If I Needed Someone "

( G. Harrison )

" If I needed someone to love,
You're the one that I'd be thinking of,
If I needed someone.

If I had some more time to spend,
Then I guess I'd be with you my friend,
If I needed someone.

Had you come some other day then
It might not have been like this.
But you see now I'm too much in love.

Carve your number on my wall and
Maybe you will get a call from me,
If I needed someone.

If I had some more time to spend,
Then I guess I'd be with you my friend,
If I needed someone.

Had you come some other day then
It might not have been like this.
But you see now I'm too much in love.

Carve your number on my wall and
Maybe you will get a call from me,
If I needed someone.  "

" To be fair, they ( U2 ) are selling extremely well with most stadiums sold out. Boston may even get a third show. Nonetheless, ABB should be safe due to lower ticket prices.
We must, however, keep things in perspective. The Stones have been selling out stadiums since 1981. In 1989, they changed the entire concept of how to make the stadium show a spectacular and opened the doors to a billion dollar a yr stadium tour industry. They also were selling as well as U2 well into their late 50's early 60's. Thus, Bono, instead if claiming U2 is the "greatest band in the world", should be thanking the Stones for opening the doors for U2.
Even most "classic rock" fans(most here) would agree that when comparing music/catologue 's U2 does not even come close to the Stones (or many others for that matter). Rather, U2's popularity is based in large part on the blending of their music and their "globilization" message which resonates with millions of impressionable youth throoughout the world. U2's music is secondary , imo, to the image of Bono being connected to movements like "Aids For Africa", "Greenhouse ", "World Hunger", etc. Bono also is the cause celeb of many groups (many of whom I personally detest but won't get into b/c politics) claiming to be victims of one thing /government or another. I think Bono is two(2)-faced and have little respect for the ideas he champions-but I am , obviously, in the minority. The millions of young people who follow these causes and events identify in a much deeper way with U2 than the average fan of a rock group. Thus, you see why they are able to sell so well despite, objectively, not being in the same league as the Stones, The Who, and others.
In the end, they may ultimately break our records, as all records eventually fall( recall VL at 120 million being the Gold Standard for about 10 yrs/see also Dan Marino's 1984 season).
Fortunately, as we have seen time and time again, despite the current wave of popularity and change, much of which U2 represents, it is time tested greatness and results(see Rolling Stones/Bill) that will be remembered 100 yrs from now...U2 will be looked at as a oddity and result of the breakdown of society at many different levels.  "

" Got to the GP at about 9.30am, didnt watch a single race, just aint into car. Heard em, but ignored them. Waited about an hour for the gates to open, then tried to find where everything was, left mum on her own to relax, so Morgan, Browny & I headed off to wander around to try & find where the boys would be playing. Took us a while to make our way around the park, eventually we found the stage & took a few pix, sussed the place out & got our wristbands to get into the gig...whenever it would start, we were told they'd come on at 7.40pm. After walking around wasting time to get a press pass, we accidently made our way into the Corporate Area, which we didnt have passes for, but when the guard asked for passes, we told him we had passes for the who gig, & somewhere in that he presumed we either were part of the who or were part of the crew & let us in. Couldnt spot anyone famous, even though the place was apparently loaded with famous faces. Eventually we left the area & moved back towards the stage, just before 4pm we joined the line to get in & eventually after about 30mins were granted entry, got right to the front of the barrier on Pete's side of the stage, had a good view, along amps & stage moniters were in the way, cutting a view off of the other guys in the band.

While we were waiting we noticed Rab on the stage & he went down the left side of the stage & started signing things, we were gonna go down but decided not to, then out of nowhere, while everyone was looking to the left side of the stage hoping someone would come out, on our side, on the right Rabbit came out, so we just ran over & said hi & asked him how he liked oz & all, then asked him for a photo, which he agreed to, then after that everyone ran to him. After maybe 5mins Bobby came out & we did the same, asked for a photo, which he was cool with. Then about another 5mins later Pino & Simon showed, we didnt go to them, just watch where they went, but when they came back we just went for it again, said hi & Morgan got a photo with them then they left backstage again.

We waited in the blazing sun for just under 3hrs for Dallas Crane to take to the stage, nice lads, put on a good show, got to their 3rd song & stated "yeah we wanna get off the stage as well cos we wanna watch the who as well, but we got another 15mins on here.." I eventually left the audience to find where my press pass was, standing in a sea of security guards & real pro photographers...with a small camera...kinda daunting. Anyways I got my pass & we were all told we're going in for the first 3 songs & headed to the front of the stage. I started to freak out a bit cos we were so close & half forgot to do my job, as i was busy being a fan & headbanging & singing away.

The boys took to the stage to a massive roar from the crowd & got right into ICE & then the Seeker & AAA, with no breaks in between. Only downside to being in the pit, was the lack of images i could get of the backing band, cos the wall was nearly 2m high with the stage moniters in on top of that. At this point, we were pulled out of the pit & dragged back to the security tent for a minute to put all our cameras away..something i werent too pleased with, but at least i gave mum me other camera.

By this time, where i had started out with Morgan & Browny, was now completely packed, so i moved to the back of the platinum area where me mum was, which in the end was actually a wise idea, cos i had view of the whole stage & no moniters/amps were in the way. They thrashed through the set, complete with the typical who banter. They seemed to be in top shape for the gig, everyone of them pushing it as far as they could go. Pete was windmilling about & Roger was singing with so much power & twirling his mic about. Pino was the best I've ever heard him, no letting back on My Generation. Rabbit was playing beautifully as usual on the keys. I know it's typical from me, but Zak was definately the best I've ever seen, on dvd or from what i saw in Japan, he was definately into it completely. I wouldn't normally say it, but he definately had a bit of keith in him at the gig, throwing a fill in wherever he could, on one fill he put alot behind it & nearly fell over. Seemed to be showing off a bit at some points, spinning the sticks a hell of alot, jumping around, mainly when hitting the cymbals & generally just the way he was playing, very keith like in the way he moved around the kit. The bass drums were amazing in sound, very powerful, actually felt a bit sick a few times as a result of the sound they produced, as did several others that i talked with.

Mum was suprised that they were so good (she's not a fan) & was really glad they played her 3 favourite songs, Love Reign O'er Me, You Better You Bet & Who Are You. I was suprised that mum was having heaps of fun & loved Pete's banter, which usually she's against. She loved it so much she wants to buy a ticket to the perth gig & see them again, even agreed to going overseas if they have another couple of gigs.

Pete introduced the band, with a roar of cheering, Zak & Rabbit got the most, took a while for everyone to quite down. On Rabbit's intro Pete stated "Originally from texas, playing as beautifully as ever, he's been with us for a long time now, a genius....& I've forgotten his name..."

Was glad to see they played cry if you want with MG, they didnt do that in Japan, as well as TKAA. The highlight for me was AJ/Sparks, they all went in for it & played with so much power & passion on it.

Anyways I'll stop my rambling, could go on forever. "
