" WHO'S THAT? : The Who at North Harbour Stadium in Auckland. "

" What a show. Even the stars came out to witness The Who perform at North Harbour Stadium after an absence of four decades. Reviewer Tracey Bond and photographer Shane Wenzlick were there.

From the opening chords of I Can't Explain Roger Daltrey and Pete Townshend displayed a level of showmanship and energy that singers and musicians half their age can't muster.

Daltry took to the stage dressed in his trademark white shirt, waistcoat and necktie; Townshend in a checked flannel shirt, hat and sunglasses.

It didn't take long before the band were showcasing their signature moves - Daltrey whirling his microphone around the stage and Townshend thrashing the living daylights out of his guitar.

A massive LCD backdrop featured electrifying visuals of still images and moving pictures.

On Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere Townshend's windmilling was accompanied by images of the union jack, and pictures of the band in their younger years.

And the packed stadium lapped up every single chord. Who Are You brought appreciative whoops, but even silence was met with cheers.

There were occasional long pauses between set ups for songs, which the pair filled with banter and humour: "It's great to be here in Auckland. You're a nice bunch of guys."

Introducing Sister Disco as a "pseudo-classical track" Townshend recalled that he was fond of the disco era.
"You should have seen me on the dancefloor... what a c!#$!"

The Who still have what it takes - demonstrated by the fact that a bra and a wedding ring were thrown onto the stage during the perfomance.

There were problems with a misbehaving amplifier during 5:15 but the band quickly recovered.

"Shit happens," Daltrey told the crowd, before explaining that in his younger days he would have had a "hissy fit". These days he is much more chilled out about things.

Daltrey's soulful vocals on Love Reign O'er Me were accompanied by moving scenes from the film Quadrophenia.

For an open air stadium, North Harbour performed admirably in the sound department. And drummer Zak Starkey more than held his own against the two giants of rock.

On You Better, You Bet, Ringo Starr's son was a particular stand out, and by this stage even the bleachers were up out of their seats and dancing.

And the hits kept on coming.

It would be hard to top the rousing version of My Generation but the bar was somehow raised even higher with Won't Get Fooled Again.

"Thanks for coming to see us in these hard times," Townsend said.

"We won't leave it 41 years next time," Daltrey promised, before pointing out glibly they'd be dead by then anyway.

For the encore the stadium was treated to a medley of songs from rock opera Tommy, beginning with Pinball Wizard and finishing with Overture, See Me, Feel Me/Listening to You.

For the night's final song they pared everything down to the basics - Townshend on acoustic guitar and Daltrey's crystal-clear vocals to perform a touching version of 2006's Tea & Theatre.

"Be lucky, be happy, be healthy," advised Daltrey as he left the stage.

Be back soon. "

" There is a very sensitive, even moody side to Paul McCartney's personality, which probably enables him to write beautiful songs. Photographer Bill Bernstein, who has captured in photographs the many sides of the legend, in conversation with Mathures Paul

Who's Sir Paul McCartney? A Beatle, a highly successful singer, a philanthropist, a brilliant lyricist...? In simple words, he is a living legend. Unlike most musicians in his age group, he continues to delight listeners across all age groups with his highly creative efforts, an example being his 2007 Memory Almost Full. It's said that good photographs are reflection of one's frame of mind and personality. No one knows this better than photographer Bill Bernstein, who has seen the life of the singing sensation through his camera "

" Review: The Who at North Harbour Stadium   "

"  A real Who-ha ... "

" Maybe it died of fright. It's half way through the Who's set and Pete Townshend has called a pause to the peformance because one of his guitar amps has fizzled on him. Earlier the video backdrops screened old footage of the band, complete with shots of the guitarist's often abusive relationship with his gear. It would be enough to make any box of wires and knobs plugged to the other end of Townshend's guitar nervous to the point of paralysis.

"Amplifiers - they're so well treated," quips the 63-year-old as the equipment is replaced. "It wasn't like this in my day."

It was one moment which gave this show a slightly unsettling but ultimately celebratory spirit. Yes this was a Who show, led by surviving members Townshend and 65-year-old singer Roger Daltrey and four sessioneers filling in for dearly-departed drummer Keith Moon and bassist John Entwistle.

Drummer Zak Starkey (son of Ringo Starr, occasional Oasis sticksman) kept it solid rather than do a Moon, who often played like every song was a drum solo. And bassist Pino Palladino was as unmoving as his predecessor, though the sound overall seemed to lack a bit of bottom end.

So this wasn't quite The Who, the band who brought so much chaos to rock'n'roll, just an often brilliant echo of Townshend's "my day".

As such, it did the business for the mostly male middle-aged and fairly beer-goggled audience of 15,000 or so.

Especially with Daltrey in fine form, his voice slightly burred with the mileage it's accrued driving Townshend's songs and still able to hit the blood-curdling scream in Won't Get Fooled Again.

Just as Daltrey's larynx was in good nick - as was his traditional microphone single poi - so was Townshend's rotator cuff.

Those windmilling power chords aside, the show gave plenty of opportunities to experience the glories of Townshend's playing. Yes, he's still got such a subtle wrist, especially in extended versions of My Generation.

They started right at the beginning with the beatpop of Can't Explain before hopscotching through their history. That meant the inclusion of some lumpen duffers like Sister Disco and Eminence Front while passing over Summertime Blues, Magic Bus and Substitute and a few other touchstones.

But the power of the delivery behind Who Are You, Baba O'Reilly and Won't Get Fooled Again reclaimed them from their day jobs as CSI themes.

Tommy and Quadrophenia got a healthy going over, with Pinball Wizard the somewhat inevitable first encore. The second was Tea & Theatre, a ballad on 2006 album Endless Wire which talks about being the last two standing. Delivered by Daltrey and Townshend alone, it might have been an unusually quiet number for the Who to go out on. But bookended with I Can't Explain two hours earlier, it made a poignant ending to a show which reminded of the length, depth and enduring power of the Who's particular legend. "

  NEW YORK (CBS) ―

It was an all-out frankfurter frenzy this week at a popular Jewish restaurant in Brooklyn, as a certain hot dog caused a near-riot.

It's not what you would expect: a worker in a NYC eatery caught on tape fending off a group of Jewish patrons with an electric knife.

"I was petrified – stuff was going through my mind," a patron who didn't want his name used said. "I want to live. I don't want to get stabbed for a hot dog."

The long-time patron says the chaos broke out when he and a rabbi noticed the frankfurters on the grill were non-Kosher, in a restaurant that's supposed to be dishing out the Kosher variety.

"The package didn't look Kosher," the patron said. "It was the last piece in the package."

Some customers were quick to defend the worker, who was surrounded by, according to some witnesses, a hundred enraged people.

"He just got angry," the patron said. "He wasn't about to do anything to the guys."

The rabbi, who originally certified the Shawarma King restaurant Kosher, has written a letter to the community in a Jewish newspaper. In the letter, he calls the frankfurter mix-up a "terrible mistake."

"It was a one-time incident," Borough Park resident Yosi Stern, who translated the Yiddish letter for CBS 2, said. "They caught it before it was even served to the consumers."

The rabbi tells the community that a worker was sent out to buy hot dogs, and that he went to the wrong market and bought non-Kosher hot dogs.

Neighbors say the owner is an honest man.

"He's a very religious man," one neighbor says. "He studies every morning, and he's not the type of guy to fool people."

The popular spot on 13th Avenue was shut down for several days as rabbis examined the premises for non-Kosher food, and threw out equipment that came in contact with the uncertified meat.

Customers, and the restaurant's owner, say they're hoping similar incidents don't come up in the future.

The restaurant's owner says that, in addition to throwing out equipment, utensils were cleansed with a flame to purge any pieces of the non-Kosher food.
