I had Sticky Fingers circa 1982.

It was noticeably different sound - I remember the accoustic in Sister Morphine being very crisp and the horns in Bitch screamed.
But I think the vinyl was softer.
Unless you recorded it to something like reel to reel or quality cassette, you risked scratching them badly.

I never bought another - the way I listened to albums at college and in the fraternity, there was no point.

MFSL's titles can go for $40 new today, but these Stones are kinda rare... I'm looking forward to hearing some of the vinyls transfered to CD via a lossless peer to peer, and was wondering what to expect. I've heard so many MFSL's releases of all kinds of bands, and just found out they did some Stones stuff... I'm very excited...

my bad, these aren't vinyl rips, these are from a 2004 CD release. Where the fuck was I when these came out?

My ignorance for not knowing enough or alot about MFSL until recently and how quality their stuff is, especially if you really are a bit on the audiophile side of your music gear. Anyway, here's the notes on these...

NOTES FROM ORIGINAL RELEASE
====================================
====================================
The Millennium Remasters Collection - audiophile archival recordings. Mono or stereo original sources done with 24-bit mastering.

The folks at Millennium Remasters have taken the Mobile Fidelty Sound Labs 12-LP boxset "The Rolling Stones" and expertly tranfered the high-quality MFSL half-speed mastered LPs to CD. The sound quality is in amazing true mono and stereo.

The discs were released in a 4-disc jewel case arrangement including an information booklet in each.
====================================
====================================

By request, here's the COMPLETE 2004 Millennium RemasterS Rolling Stones MFSL series. I was lucky enough to get them back then. This is a tough set to get. Scans can be found at the links below. Some say these sound better than the SACD hybrids of a few years back. They sound terrific, but you can ultimately be the judge.

12X5 (MILLENNIUM MFSL BOX COLLECTION)
AFTERMATH (MILLENNIUM MFSL BOX COLLECTION)
BEGGARS BANQUET (MILLENNIUM MFSL BOX COLLECTION)
BETWEEN THE BUTTONS (MILLENNIUM MFSL BOX COLLECTION)
GET YER YA-YA'S OUT! (MILLENNIUM MFSL BOX COLLECTION)
HOT ROCKS 1964-1971 (MILLENNIUM MFSL BOX COLLECTION)
LET IT BLEED (MILLENNIUM MFSL BOX COLLECTION)

If you can set them up to be recorded when you drop the needle the first ime, then transffer to disc.

Sticky Fingers sounds like ass.  It is way too quiet and phony sounding, with the electric guitars de-emphasized and the acoustic guitars turned way up.  Sway almost sounds clean.  They remove a lot of the grunge from this album, and Sticky Fingers without grunge is lame.

I just got a UK original of the LP this weekend - now that has a pretty good sound stage and nice sounding drums, which about half the domestic pressings I've heard fall down on . . .

But it still kind of sounds like dirt and heroin mixed together to create mud.
