While not a big fan of them, I strongly disagree. How much of your opinion is about the music, or the subject matter of the last album.
They draw off some good bands, while not going overboard ie: Clash, SLF's and Ramones.
to each their own, I can't stand some bands too... I've been amking a serious effort this year to explore alot of bands I've been prejudiced twoards, by actually sitting and listeing to their albums straight through...
including, but not limited to
REM, Elvis Costello, Coldplay, Tom Petty... all of these are people i've not listened to in years, disliked for no real reason or gave up on... I made it a point to listen to the albums they've released in 2008. It's part of my being open minded, if i'm claiming I love rock and roll, and not hating on it too much. I have to admit, regardless of my feeling about the album or artist after, I actually feel better, letting go of the hate, and i'm liking what I love, even more.
I'm just saying... in case anyone wants to try it. Riffy, is an exception, he works in radio, and that might change alot....
I wouldn't say that I "hated" any band. However, you're right Pdog, playing Greenday songs professionally isn't easy. Not easy at all. Nickelback is even worse. My loathing of Greenday's music isn't based on any political leanings they have. No rather, it's based on the fact that I can't get over their attempt at trying to be a modern day Clash. They are so lacking in that department it's laughable. I believed that Joe Strummer and Mick Jones meant it. Greenday is more interested in the image of the whole psuedo punk vibe. In other words I don't believe a damned thing they say. Not to mention the fact that their best song wouldn't even be considered decent when compared to any cut from London Calling.
Riffy
not much can stand next London Calling... There's entire Stones albums that look pale next to LC...
Is there anything new you've discovered you like, by new I'd say post 2004 releases? Or anything old that you discovered as new? Or, anything old you recently re-discovered?
I listened to so much DBT, I dug up Skynyrd and been digging it.
People hate on Prog, but I gotta admit, i'll listen to Yes. And i love Tool, and they are prog as hell, and Maynard is a flamer in thr highest order, and I think Tool rocks.
i'm just saying, can we talk about what we like about rock and roll?
I think everyone is this thread, that is talking about bands that suck, need a homework assignment.
This weekend you have to get an album. 40 to 60 mons of your life. Sit down, and just listen to it. Then make a post about that album, and what you thought about it. I don't care what it is, new old, same old tired Exile review, whatever. You guys need to revisit what you love about rock and roll, and talk about it, like we used to...
