The Olympics Thread

Is China ready, I still hear a lot about massive air pollution. I am starting to get ready for this, it will be fun to watch. Hard to believe that it is already 12 years since it was here in Atlanta.

Beijing shouldnt have been awarded it to begin with.

Always enjoy the Olympics but the time difference when its held in Asia or Australia always means that I dont get to see as much of it as I would like.

from a GB Track & Field perspective, Phillips Idowu has a genuine shot at a Gold, in the Triple jump.
As does Kelly Sotherton in the Heptathlon.
Christine Ohorughhu(sic), an athlete i distrust and do not support or cheer, is another genuine gold medal chance,
in the 400 metres.

The time difference, however, means an evening highlights show, will be the only coverage i'll be able to watch.
And as a big track and field fan (i attended the London Grand Prix, @ Crystal Palace, last weekend), that's frustrating.

100% agree with Gazza, that China shouldn't have been awarded the Games.
But hey, that Scottish restaurant, McDonalds, and Coca-Cola, demand these things happen, so they usually do.

China seems like the dirties place on this planet. Disgusting, and dangerous. i enjoy very few events enough to go out of my way, but like World Cup, I love watching The the real football games.
I hope when China takes over The USA, they at least reform their air quality standards!!!

Turns out that our negroes were dope-juicing as much the Iron Curtain Commies ever were.  Shades of Kratochilova.  There promises to be some serious butt-shot scandals as we approach this literal and figurative passing of the torch to the Coolies.

I never really understood that angle on the Olympics, the core part of which are not team competitions.  Plus, I only care about track events, which are completely individual (even the relays are really).  Its absurd, like high level absurd, to want one black guy to run faster than another black guy, merely because of the country he associates with.  I'm hollering for the guys who can pass the most piss tests!  And Jeremy Wariner, no matter what that freak of nature is tweaked on.

I'm thinking it may get tougher for them as it goes along.
They may have a lot of talent individually, but I'm assuming they will be going up against teams that have more experience playing together.

Well the USA just kicked Russia's ass today. That's always a good thing. I think they are a lock to win Gold in BB. I'm looking forward to the games overall. Yes,the time difference is a bitch. You have to go out of your way to try and avoid finding out results so you can watch them with some suspense. Yes,China should never have gotten the games, for many reasons. But if your a sports junkie it doesn't get much better.

That's out on a limb there, Horatio.  The humiliationism in 2004 and the 2006 World Bash means nothing to you?  The addition of Bryant does not bode well in Olympic style play.  Also, not one white player (U.S. pop. 303 million, 74% white) to act as a steadying influence, unless you count Kidd which most basketball purists do not.  Redd, Anthony, Howard, Prince all questionable choices as well.  Paul must control, or bronze is probable.
