this is right about the time of the thread where steelie breaks down and posts animal porn.

still...gazza...the crowes may not have the hits, but come on....southern harmony has got to make anyone's top 25 .....

I'm sitting her and you know what?  I can't even think of one Crowes song..A medlody or lyric...

Oh and I even have their early albums from back in the day...

That has to mean something.. And ya know what...Believe it or not a whole lot  of U2 melodies and lyrics come rushing from my mouth without even putting the thinkin cap on...

I know what you mean Meg. U2 has a unique sound, and they def. write catchy pop songs. Maybe that's why they are millionaire rock stars and The Crowes can't give away tix or albums...

I bet if you looked at a recent Crowes and a recent U2 setlist side by side, you would recognize more songs on the Crowes setlist.

As the Boss said at U2's induction into the R and R Hall of Hame, This is the last band I would know all the names of its members.  Even at today's loose standards for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, does anybody see the Crowes getting in?

Ok I'll be a guinea pig. U2 hasn't played an entire concert since 12/06 and the Crowes one is from Philly last week.  I will only highlight the ones I recognize from the title..and let me tell ya I would not be a good  partner in a game of name that tune Grin

U2 Setlist
   1. City Of Blinding Lights
   2. Vertigo / Theme From Hawaii 5-0 (snippet) / She Loves You (snippet)
   3. Elevation
   4. I Will Follow
   5. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For / In A Little While (snippet)
   6. Beautiful Day / Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (snippet) / Blackbird (snippet)
   7. Angel Of Harlem
   8. Who's Gonna Ride Your Wild Horses
   9. The First Time  ??not sure
  10. Sometimes You Can't Make It On Your Own / La Vie En Rose (snippet)
  11. Love And Peace Or Else
  12. Sunday Bloody Sunday / Rock The Casbah (snippet)
  13. Bullet The Blue Sky / When Johnny Comes Marching Home (snippet) / The Hands That Built America (snippet)
  14. Miss Sarajevo
  15. Pride (In The Name Of Love)
  16. Where The Streets Have No Name
  17. Instant Karma! (snippet) / One

     encore(s):
  18. The Fly / (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction (snippet)
  19.[b] Mysterious Ways

  20. With Or Without You
  21.Window In The Skies
  22. The Saints Are Coming / When The Saints Come Marching In (snippet)
  23. Rockin' In The Free World
  24. All I Want Is You

Think the ones I wasn't sure of are from the last albums and if I heard them I'd say -oh yeah

OK..the Crowes

Moving On Down the Line
Goodbye Daughters of the Revolution
Cypress Time
Cursed Diamond
Paint an 8
Jam into Bring On, Bring On
There's Gold in Them Hills
Long Black Veil
Whoa Mule
Quinn the Eskimo (The Mighty Quinn) - First time ever played
Downtown Money Waster into another Jam
Thorn in My Pride
Sting Me
No Speak No Slave
Wounded Bird

—Encore—
Jam into Waiting Guilty
Don't Do It

Sorry..knew one of their songs and 2 covers by title alone...

Like I said....

i really cant compare two bands from two different era's and continents. i would just say that U2 hands down has more talent, originality and energy. the crowes are a great bar band. that's it.

Exactly what I was thinking. I know the Crowes personally. Or I should say that I knew the Crowes way back when. Their former bass player,Johnny Colt, was my next door neighbor for years. They are a great bar band, but the best bar that I ever saw in Atlanta was The Georgia Satellites. The only problem with the Satellites was that they got stuck behind the one song that would haunt them forever, Keep Your Hands To Youself. While that was a great tune it got so overplayed that the band couldn't get around it. However, as bar bands go The Satellites blew the Crows off the stage every time. It wasn't even close.

I don't personally dig U2 that much, but they are at a completly differnt level than the Black Crowes will ever achieve. They are rock and roll superstars the world over. The Crowes can never make that claim.

I think that the Crowes are a better, if less consistent, band.   I saw them with Pagey and they were AMAZING!!  True, they were playing with Pagey.   Who has the new BC CD?

U2 are good at churning out predictable arena hymns that are fool proof.  But, they lack spontaneity and brilliance.

I prefer the Crowes.
Why? They are more "Stonesy".

While U2 certainly has it's fan base, I find "Saint Bono" nauseating and the music okay.

While I may recognize more of U2's hits, my crotch recognizes that raw, raunchy sound of Rich Robinson's guitar.

I've seen both Bands live and preferred the Crowes.
Again, more "Stonesy"

U2 had an incredible run Boy through Rattle and Hum.  They made some great angry music.  I saw U2 a few times during that stretch, and the shows were incredible.  Then came Achtung Baby, and away went a great band.

I think "Zooropa" was great.  "Daddy's going to pay for your crashed car" is a great tune.   But, U2 will never again venture into "Zooropa" territory.

oh totally, but not anytime soon.. as some would say....they haven't paid their dues yet.
the black crows are a great band, and they put on a great show.  the problem with these fuckers is they keep changing band members, so noone can remember the names.
