Just came home from seing Buddy Guy at the Manchester Bridgewater Hall. It was one of those concerts that make you smile from ear to ear for hours afterwards....Now THERE's an old man who ought to continuously tour, whereas Iggy Poop should stay at home, have a nice cup of tea and read a good book instead....

Gazza, bet that if it had been Lucinda, you'd been there in the front row, huh????  Wink

Jo, you lucky bastard! I gotta see Buddy next time he rolls through here.
However, I must disagree about Iggy. If you've never seen him, you really should.

Ah, just read you saw him at the Isle of Wight. To be honest, the shows I've seen the past few years with The Stooges are okay, but I preferred him during the '80s and '90s when he was doing his solo stuff. But that's just me.

Postpone your trip one day SV!
(Wishful thinking...)

Jo - I'm glad you got to see Buddy.  He is an incredible human being, no?
It's remarkable how he still tours!  (Keep him healthy, Lord...)  And I love the fact he still makes it his business to come back to Chicago every January and play in his lounge for the entire month - it's always 'a must see' for me.

Next month he'll be back on his ol' stompin' grounds to receive an award (I just love this type of stuff!)...

MAY 2008 - Buddy Guy is being honored with the first ever Great Performer of Illinois Award on July 20, 2008! Jimmie Vaughan and his Tilt a Whirl Band will be on hand to salute Buddy in a free concert at the Jay Pritzker Pavillion in Millennium Park. Festivities begin at 8:00 PM.

“We are presenting the first Great Performer of Illinois award to a blues giant who has had a world-wide impact on music and culture and brought international attention to Chicago as the home of the blues, ” says Lois Weisberg, Commissioner, Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs in a press release. “It is fitting that he is being honored at a festival that brings together the best talent in the state because he is one of the all-time greats.”

...and yes, I shall be there!

pleased you had a good time Jostorm, i saw him, the previous night, in London,
and he was exceptionally good.
It's a breath of fresh air to see a legend, having fun, smiling, joking and laughing with the fans, instead of the oh-too-usual navel gazing and air of obnoxious self-importance,
that so many so-called 'stars' have.

Ah shit. I'm going down to AC for the Dylan show on 8/16. I'm already way overextended on shows this summer. Buddy usually plays here pretty often, so hopefully I'll get to see him in the fall/winter.  Undecided

Hello, friends!
GTRM, whenever you finally get hold of that fancy time-travelling machine with the in-built chilled chiba-dispenser just ring me, and we'll see Iggy together in the 80's, is that a deal, gal???  Wink Iggy I found amusing, but the music didn't make me smile, if you know what I mean...
And yes, GTRM, I consider myself extremely lucky, it's just like Ade put it, a real salt-of-the-earth man and a fantastic performer! Still very active, he insisted in clambering amongst the gallery and circles of the theatre, didn't sound out of breath at all, I would have guessed him to be about mid-fifties from the way he looks, and my seats were absolute nose-bleed, BUT I took my hubby's Swarovski binoculars and it felt I could have touched him by just reaching out...Thank God the Bridgewater Hall has the most fantastic acoustic and is fairly small,so it was a real delight . By the way: DOES HE ALWAYS WEAR TWO TOTALLY DIFFERENT SHOES??? Perhaps just an old-age excentricity....
Don't think he played "champagne and reefer" FOTP, but I'm sure some geek has posted a setlist somewhere.... SV and GTRM: listen to Parmeda, you gotta try and see him, God only knows "the good ones" seem to be dropping like flies lately, very sad....
