THis was posted by Nellcote on the "Some Girls" thread but I think this deserves a new thread for it

The Rolling Stones record (actually is a Picture Sleeve 7" - 45 RPM) valued at the highest value is the "Street Fighting Man" PS it's the hardest to find and the most expensive record ever released by The Rolling Stones

Valued price (Jerry Osborne's Official Price Guide to Records) is $12,000 USD
Current bid is $3,801 USD

This is true - I would have happily taken a percentage and sold it for him. Zeros are SCARY for bidders. That said, nine grand for 7 round inches of plastic and a slick thin piece of paper is not chump change. But did you read the q/a with the guy? Q: "Why not offer insurance on this valuable record?" A: "I did not realize it was a valuable record".

Funny but true. A friend of mine was at a record con in Allentown recently and said that most of the heavy dealers did not even bring their most valuable records (records in this price range or higher, mainly garage/soul 45s with tiny pressings) to the show because of the weakness of the dollar. Like paintings, some records are worth keeping your money in. They're not getting any less rare.

The item was a fake copy; rik1 from Banquete de Pordioseros did bid for this item and he received a note from eBay warning him not to accept a second chance offer or any kind of negotiation with that seller as the copy sold was fake.

The item was removed from eBay; as you may know when an auction is closed it is on line for (I Think) 90 additional days but in this case it was removed

Pathetic... To be honest I had the impression that something was wrong, not just because of the seller history (0%)

I'm going to compare the versions I have saved from previous auctions with this one; not sure if I saved it as I'm in the office but I have the images from the 2002 auction won by Pete Townshend (we was the winner but the reserve price was not reached) and some others like this posted by Nasty Habits

I think the above sold for $15,000 USD!

Again, it was ironic that the buyer for this was the one whom I worked with for a Beast of Burden 45 my buddy had aquired. He was a good chap to work with.... I hope he sniffed out the loser.
