Not official yet (and maybe wont be for a few weeks) but was told from a very reliable source yesterday that Dylan will be touring in the UK mid-June as part of his European tour.

From spinner.com:

Bob Dylan joined the members of two rising-star bands in his genre on the Grammy stage, growling through a rousing hootenanny version of 'Maggie's Farm.'

Mumford and Sons and the Avett Brothers performed prior to Dylan's introduction, though before the last curtain opened to reveal Dylan it was already clear who the centerpiece of the shared set was.

Mumford and Sons kicked off the segment with 'The Cave,' literally shaking the stage the only way a small folk band could -- with lots of foot-stomping and a three-piece brass section blowing jubilant orchestral harmonies. The Avetts followed with the sparse 'Head Full of Doubt, Road Full of Promise,' sharing a stage designed to resemble a honky tonk.

When Dylan appeared and launched into 'Maggie's Farm,' the members of Mumford and Sons and Avett Brothers surrounded him with every instrument they could find, including banjos, guitars and accordions. Dylan, who was hardly audible at times, was nearly drowned out by the younger voices and chorus of instruments surrounding him.

The mix was likely due to simple exuberance: Following the performance, which ended with Dylan kingly directing traffic with a few harmonica blows and a small wave of his hand, the band members hovered behind him with their mouths open, like some young kids jamming in a basement who had just been interrupted by their idol walking in and asking if he could join in on a song.

Bob Dylan to launch Asian tour in April
(AFP) – 4 hours ago

TAIPEI — Legendary American singer-songwriter Bob Dylan will kick off tour of Asia in April with his first ever performance in Taiwan, organisers said on Tuesday.

Dylan, the reluctant voice for disaffected youth in the 1960s, will perform in Taipei on April 3, a prospect that has led thousands of fans to rush for the ticket booths, according to the Taipei-based Very Aspect Culture Group.

"In the 24 hours since we started sales Monday, over 40 percent of the scheduled 10,000 tickets have been snatched up," said Edie Chen, an executive at the company, adding prices went as high as Tw$8,000 ($272).

Although he has never visited before, the 70-year-old American icon is loved in Taiwan, defying a trend that has seen Western music lose market share to Mandarin songs over the past 20 years.

His fans reportedly include Morris Chang, chairman of the world's biggest contract microchip maker Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co., but he is an idol for the very young, too.

Chen said a 400 tickets carrying a price tag of just Tw$800 ($27), and therefore favoured by cost-conscious young people, were snapped up within 10 minutes.

"That really surprised me," she added.

Dylan's songs such as "Blowin' in the Wind" and "The Times They Are a-Changin'" became anthems for the civil rights and anti-war movements.

The Asian tour will also take Dylan to Japan, Hong Kong and Vietnam, Chen said, adding that it was not yet certain if he would also perform in China.

from what I was told last week by someone with good contacts with Bob's management, it appears that Dylan is already making plans quite far ahead.

From 2013 onwards, instead of his current m.o. of stopping his tour bus at every hole in the hedge, Bob will mostly (or exclusively) be playing 'residencies' - eg, maybe a week in New York, a week in Berlin, a week in Tokyo, etc.

More conflicting info re' this year's touring schedules.

Bob has now confirmed a show in California in July, so that would appear to contradict info that he'd be in Europe around June-July. Somewhat makes sense. As he's in Asia and Australia in the soring, its unheard of for Bob to do two tour legs in a row outside the US.

From Desolation Row:

Meanwhile, whether Bob comes to Europe in the Summer or Autumn may well be settled by the following announcement in istockanalyst following on from postings on Expecting Rain:

COSTA MESA, Calif., Feb. 22, 2011 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- Bob Dylan, who just released his latest album "Bob Dylan In Concert - Brandeis University 1963," a previously unknown live recording of one of his earliest performances, will kick off the Summer Concert Series at the Pacific Amphitheatre at the 2011 OC Fair on Friday, July 15, the opening day of the 2011 OC Fair.

I rather suspect that Bob will not come to Europe until the Autumn, which was what I was originally told by the Promoters.

So how do you explain this then, G??!!http://www.examiner.com/bob-dylan-in-national/report-bob-dylan-neil-young-eagles...

RTT News is reporting that Bob Dylan will be returning to Paddock Wood, Kent, U.K., to play at the 2011 Hop Farm Festival on Friday, July 1. Dylan is not yet listed on the official website, but performed at the festival last year.

According to various sources, Dylan will share the bill with Neil Young (also not yet listed), The Eagles, Bryan Ferry, Death Cab For Cutie, and 10CC.

Other acts scheduled to appear at the two day (July 1 and 2) festival include Mumford & Sons, Pete Doherty and Primal Scream. Dylan, of course, recently appeared with Mumford & Sons at the Grammy Awards.

Tickets are available at the official website. But beware . . . The appearance had not been confirmed at either the Hop Farm or  Bob Dylan website.

Van Morrison has also been added to the Festival.....

As we discussed, the Morrison rumour comes from last year.

I'm a bit unconvinced about Dylan playing Hop Farm in 2011 as well. That seems a very costly line up for any promoter of what is a relatively small festival. Plus I cant see him playing two festival dates in and around London a couple of weeks apart if the talk of him playing the Fleadh in Finsbury Park in June has any substance.

Update - RTT removes Bob Dylan, Neil Young, from 2011 Hop Farm line-up article
February 24th, 2011 8:55 am ET
Do you like this Article?

Yesterday, RTT reported that Bob Dylan and Neil Young would be playing the 2011 Hop Farm Festival.

Their names have now been removed from the article.

While it appeared unlikely that Dylan and Young would appear on the same bill as The Eagles on the same date, there were rumors that Dylan, at least, might play some European festivals in June and July. As a handful of readers pointed out, some of the acts listed, including Young, Mumford & Sons, Pete Doherty, and Primal Scream, appeared at previous Hop Farm Festivals. RTT appeared to mix up the information in the original article.

RTT now lists the same acts as the official Hop Farm site: The Eagles, Death Cab For Cutie, Brandon Flowers, and Bryan Ferry.

John Baldwin at the Desolation Row Information Service reported that there were strong rumors of Dylan playing some European festivals in June and July, so the idea of another Hop Farm appearance was not out of the question.

Sorry for the confusion.

Keep up with Bob Dylan Examiner.

From Desolation Row :

This is something I posted on ER last night, so you may have already seen it. It’s the latest info from Bob's UK Promoter/Agent/European Agents.

As far as Hop Farm is concerned, Bob will not be there. In the words of someone from the Promoter's office - "I can categorically tell you that Dylan isn't playing Hop Farm - we would never play two years in a row as you know and also, I am sure there aren't many promoters in the world that can afford The Eagles, Dylan and Young on the same bill?  Way too expensive!!!

Now's not the time for your tears because Bob will probably be in Europe around this time anyway, performing at festivals. Dates are waiting to be confirmed so there's nothing that can be said further other than it being a short spell from around 16th June to 1st July. Now you can start planning your holidays. One of the likely dates will be for a festival in the UK. It will not be Hop Farm but I do not yet know where or when, but can make an educated guess  (* Finsbury Park Fleadh, London - 18th June  - Gazza )  .   Announcements about all these festivals should be made fairly soon.

Plans are still in the offing for a concert tour of Europe including the UK in the Autumn.

Suze Rotolo, 1943-2011

By J. Hoberman, Sun., Feb. 27 2011 @ 10:47AM Comments (8) Categories: Featured, Goodbyes
Share465 0diggsdigg

The Village lost a life-long partisan and a true voice last Friday, with the passing of Susan Rotolo after a long illness, at home in her Noho loft and the arms of her husband of 40 years, Enzo Bartoccioli.

Suze Rotolo was a talented artist (the maker of artist books and delicate book-like objects), as well as an illustrator, a sometime activist, an erstwhile East Village Other slum goddess, a devoted wife, a proud mother, a poet's muse, a good comrade, and late in her too-short life, a published author. She was intensely private but as the radiant young woman on the cover of The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan, she became a legendary figure and even a generational icon. Just writing that I can hear her annoyed chortle--although she did humorously allow, after years of dodging rabid Dylanologists, that she was some sort of "artifact."

Growing up in Queens, a few years later than Suze and a few neighborhoods east of hers, I knew her name (although not how to correctly pronounce it) long before I met her, just a mom in the park. Our kids, Luca and Mara, went to the same Sullivan Street playgroup; our families were friendly, both in New York and on Cape Cod where, thanks to a network of her late parents' leftwing associates, she and Enzo always managed to find the most amazing Wellfleet Woods cabins or ocean-overlooking shacks.

Susan, as we called her, was intensely loyal. She retained many childhood friends, even while guarding her personal life. She was a woman of strong opinions and fierce standards (a demanding connoisseur of inexpensive table wine, a cook whose pasta was never less than perfect). She had no use for religion and deeply appreciated political theater--not just Brecht but the Billionaires for Bush, with whom she was affiliated during the 2004 election. She had a healthy sense of the absurd. She listened to jazz on WKCR and was delighted by her son's career as a musician and luthier. She thrived on spirited talk. (A sign pasted to her TV screen read "Conversation!") She was, to the very end, a person of enormous cheer.

In her memoir, unavoidably titled A Freewheelin' Time, Susan calls Dylan "the elephant in the room of my life" but the book (subtitled "A Memoir of Greenwich Village in the Sixties" and prefaced with a Village street map) is essentially about her youth--how it felt to be a working-class red-diaper baby, the child of Italian-born anti-fascists living in Sunnyside Gardens, a teenager in love at the epicenter of the folk revival, an art student in Italy, a tourist of the revolution in Cuba, an off-off Broadway stagehand. The story is hers and so is the voice (no ghost writing allowed). She signs off with the words "we had something to say, not something to sell."

Goodbye, Susan. Ave atque vale. Love, Jim

We have had such heroes, and such lovers, as few have had in peacetime.

We will see them pass, and be passed ourselves, with love that Fame knew not before.

Yet so many have gone on ever, and are lucky to have their stones in the grass.

Was only announced yesterday.

'Freewheelin'' is probably my favourite Dylan album cover. I love that pic.

Taken at the corner of Jones Street and West 4th Street just across from the apartment they lived in.

She was the muse for a lot of songs from around 1962-63, my favourite of which are probably 'Boots of Spanish Leather' and 'Tomorrow is a Long Time'. She was also the subject of the one song Dylan has always regretted writing, 'Ballad in Plain D' - he admitted he got way too personal with that and 'it was one I should have left alone'.

RIP Suze. Sad
