Oh yeah, I was ordered to stop taking pictures 3 different times, and I said 'OK cool', then moved around to a different spot on the floor but I didnt take as many pics as I wanted to.  I ended up in a seat and thats where I was able to take the videos. It was really easy to move around anywhere inside the venue since the floor was General Admission. I dont use my cell phone, I have an HD camera.

HD = High Definition. Same as all the new TV sets. It looks like a regular digital camera, but it takes the pics in HD. Thats what you want to ask for when buying a digital camera.

The staff at a Massachusetts pizza parlor thought they’d hit the jackpot Nov. 20 when a man reportedly wearing a Bob Dylan backstage pass placed a hefty pizza order, but they were sadly mistaken.

The alleged con man walked into Antonio’s in Amherst at about 2 a.m. and ordered 178 extra-large gourmet pizzas at a cost of $3,900 under the premise of buying them for Dylan and company, which had a concert at the Mullins Center the night before. He said he’d be back in a few hours to pay for the order, according to the Daily Hampshire Gazette.

The man never returned, so the manager called the police.

Antonio’s owner Walter Pacheco, who was not in the building at the time, said the man was convincing.

“They gave him the benefit of the doubt, they thought this guy was for real. They got taken,” Pacheco told the Gazette. “It was a boo-boo on the manager’s part to start the order before we had some sort of deposit.”

Bluesfest heads to court over Bob Dylan show
Adam Fulton
December 21, 2010

Bob Dylan . . . plans for an extra show at Byron Bay Bluesfest in jeopardy.

AN EXTRA Bob Dylan concert at Byron Bay is in danger of being cancelled amid a stoush between the Byron Bay Bluesfest and the local council.

The festival's director, Peter Noble, said he had no option but to lodge an action in the Land and Environment Court today to override Byron Shire Council and seek the necessary approval for the concert to proceed.

The dispute centres on a bid by Bluesfest, which draws thousands of Sydneysiders, to extend its five-day festival at Easter by a day to take advantage of the Anzac Day public holiday.

Mr Noble said Dylan, the festival headliner, was ready to play an extra show on the day but the council's ''bloody mindedness'' last week in deferring a decision on the extension until February would not leave enough time to secure the folk singer and mean the extra concert would have to be shelved.

''By that point, Bob Dylan has moved on,'' he said.

It is not the first time Dylan has faced trouble in Byron. A concert in 2001 was shelved amid planning concerns and instead held in nearby Ballina.

The local MP, Don Page, said it was ''ridiculous'' the council would take three months to make a decision and put the concert at risk. ''It's a relatively straightforward matter,'' he said.

But the mayor of Byron Shire, Jan Barham, said the council had to abide by state planning regulations and the application's timing was unfortunate. ''It came late in the year - there's a lot of other things going on - and staff were constrained, time-wise, by the planning rules to properly exhibit [the application] and receive submissions,'' she said.

There was ''nothing malicious'' in the councillors deferring the decision. The council had always supported the festival, she said.

She was seeking to convene an extraordinary council meeting early in the month with sufficient numbers to rule on the case. It was ''unfortunate'' Bluesfest was taking legal action, she said.

The festival, now held at Tyagarah, near Byron Bay, was nearly sold out yesterday.

No Bob activity in recent weeks, but it seems his touring itinerary will be bringing him to Australia in April (some dates already confirmed) followed by Asian dates in May (including some unusual locations such as China, Cambodia etc)

I would assume that the summer willl see him perform in the US, because it appears that in the autumn there'll be an 'extensive' European tour, including several dates in the UK.

Some updated Bits and Bobs.....

"Chronicles" update

Rock legend Bob Dylan has a new book deal—with his old publisher, Simon & Schuster.

The house, which brought out the singer-songwriter's 2004 best-seller Chronicles: Volume One, has reached a deal with literary agent Andrew Wylie for six books, according to several industry insiders. The books include two follow-ups to Chronicles and a collection of riffs from Mr. Dylan's radio show on Sirius XM.

The deal came after Mr. Wylie had spent months trying to drum up interest in the project among other publishers (see Crain's, Nov. 22), despite Simon & Schuster's insistence that it had the rights to any Chronicles sequels. “Wylie's contention was that S&S didn't own the "memoir,' because Chronicles was "nonfiction stories' from his life and not a memoir,” said the editor. But no house would bite because of the potential for a lawsuit.

Mr. Wylie had been looking for an eight-figure offer, according to another editor, who didn't know the deal's final value.

The agent did not respond to an e-mail seeking comment. A Simon & Schuster spokesman declined to comment.

'MY OWN LOVE SONG' DVD and soundtrack now available

My Own Love Song is now available on DVD. In case you’ve forgotten, My Own Love Song is a 2010 road movie directed and written by Olivier Dahan and starring Renée Zellweger, Forest Whitaker, Madeline Zima and Nick Nolte. It premiered in Dahan's native France on April 7, 2010 and in the United States at the Tribeca Film Festival between April 21 to May 2, 2010. The soundtrack contains music written by Dylan, including "Life is Hard" from his 2009 album Together Through Life. The soundtrack is heavy in material from those studio sessions. Not only does it feature several selections that originally appeared on Together Through Life, but it also includes 16 previously unreleased originals recorded during that same time frame. Titles include “Life Is Hard”, “Driving South”, “Bumble Bee”, and “Sweeping The Floor”. So, My Own Love Song includes both old and new Dylan, all of which came from the same studio sessions. The soundtrack also hears a number of the film’s stars covering the singer/songwriter. Whitaker and Georges Drakoulias  both offer their own renditions of “What Good Am I?”, and Don Sparks sings “I Believe In You”. Zellweger has the honors of debuting the aforementioned “Life Is Hard”, as well as covering Woodie Guthrie’s classic “This Land Is Your Land.

Bob Dylan's Renaldo and Clara To Be Finally Released

by Levi Asher on Monday, January 17, 2011 09:25 pm

...

Dylanologists rejoice! I've heard from a semi-reliable source that Renaldo and Clara, a much-discussed and little-seen 1978 epic film by Bob Dylan, will soon be finally released on DVD.

This astounding, rich and often frustrating movie represented one of the most dramatic episodes in Bob Dylan's long career. An ambitious, intentionally difficult postmodern art film, Renaldo and Clara was panned by critics for being pretentious, incomprehensible and painfully long (all of these things are true). Released in the early years of the punk-rock/new-wave era, the film's windy self-indulgence revealed Dylan as completely out of step with his times. Stung by the criticism, Dylan has refused to release the film ever since. It has not shown in theatres since the 1970s, and has never been officially released on VHS or DVD.

But this movie is a masterpiece in spite of its faults, or perhaps because of them. Conceived by Dylan as an early experiment in cinema verite (a genre now typically known as "reality tv"), Renaldo and Clara tells a single story but deliberately confuses the identities of all the characters, several of which are played by Dylan, his former lover Joan Baez or his then-wife Sara Dylan. Bob Neuwirth, T. Bone Burnette, Ronee Blakely, Mick Ronson, Scarlet Rivera, Ronnie Hawkins, Rob Stoner and countless other friends come along for the ride. Various improvised or real-life scenes introduce themes of love, politics and the meaning of America, and by the end none of the themes are easily resolved. The film quality is erratic, the direction is often unclear, and the acting is often clumsy (guitarist Mick Ronson is particularly wooden, and Dylan is no Brando himself)

However, stirring scenes and images emerge. Most importantly, the narrative scenes are intercut with stunning complete performances of great songs like Tangled Up In Blue, It Ain't Me Babe, Never Let Me Go, When I Paint My Masterpiece and One More Cup Of Coffee. The film features Dylan in a peak moment of live performance with the Rolling Thunder Revue (the largest and, in my opinion, most exciting band he ever played with).

The film's literary credentials are through the roof. It's co-written by Sam Shepard, includes a powerful poetry performance by Anne Waldman, and features many beguiling scenes with Allen Ginsberg and Peter Orlovsky, who light up the screen whenever they appear. This movie is also the only close glimpse curious Dylan fans will ever get of Sara Dylan, the songwriter's greatest muse (Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands) and the mother of his older children.

I've seen Renaldo and Clara several times, but always on either a fuzzy bootleg VHS recording or, more recently, in broken segments on YouTube. In either case, the viewing experience is not great (it pretty much looks like the image at the top of this page, which show Sara and Bob as Clara and Renaldo). I'm looking forward to seeing it in high quality video for the first time, and hearing the killer live music in high quality audio. Maybe this time I'll even be able to understand more of the story.

It's not clear whether Dylan has refused to release this film since the 1970s only to spite the critics or for other reasons. The crash-landing of Renaldo and Clara coincided with Dylan and Sara's divorce, after which the always enigmatic folk-rocker released a brilliant, Kafkaesque album called Street-Legal, then disappeared for several months and reemerged as a born-again Christian. Renaldo and Clara, though an artistic failure in several ways, captures the heat of an artist in a creative frenzy. It probably also captures something about the 1970s as a whole.

My old friends at the once-thriving rec.music.dylan Usenet newsgroup may also remember that I once posted an extensive synopsis of the film there (this was one of the very first things I wrote online). Through maintaining this piece over the years, I've been made aware of how many hard-core or amateur Dylanologists around the world have been eagerly awaiting this film. Sean Wilentz's recent book Bob Dylan in America has also helped to pique interest (Wilentz reveals, among other things, that the film was almost certainly inspired by a French film called Children of Paradise, directed by Marcel Carne).

I'm really glad that Bob Dylan's creative team has decided to give this undeniably important movie its proper official release, though I haven't yet heard word when it will happen.

Fifty Years Ago Today: Bob Dylan Arrived In New York
'I didn't know a single soul in this dark freezing metropolis,' Dylan wrote in 'Chronicles.' 'But that was all about to change - and quick'

...

While it's next to impossible to confirm the exact date, it's widely agreed upon that today is the 50th anniversary of Bob Dylan's arrival in New York City. The 19-year-old folk singer (who had recently dropped out of the University of Minnesota) had spent the past 24 hours driving east with fellow folksinger Fred Underhill and a young couple.

"The big car came to a full stop on the other side [of the George Washington Bridge] and let me off," Dylan wrote in his 2004 memoir Chronicles: Volume 1. "I slammed the door shut behind me, waved good-bye, stepped out onto the hard snow. The biting wind hit me in the face. At last I was here, in New York City, a city like a web too intricate to understand and I wasn't going to cry."

Early Bob Dylan Photos

New York's winter of 1961 was the city's coldest in 28 years. "The cold was brutal and every artery of the city was snowpacked, but I'd started out from the Frostbitten North Country," Dylan wrote in Chronicles. "I didn't know a single soul in this dark freezing metropolis but that was all about to change — and quick."

Bob Dylan In Black and White: Photographs From The 1960s and 1970s

In a 1961 interview Dylan said they got off at 42nd Street before heading down to Greenwich Village. In 1966 he expanded on the story to biographer Robert Shelton. "We hustled for two months," Dylan said, in one of the most fantastical lies he ever told. "Sometimes we would make $150 or $250 a night between us, and hang around in cars. Cats would pick us up and chicks would pick us up. And we would do anything they wanted, as long as it paid. It was very cutthroat...I almost got killed."

The Artwork of Bob Dylan

What actually happened is that Dylan immediately trudged down about 40 blocks to Cafe Wha? in Greenwich Village. There he met the club's MC Fred Neil — five years before he recorded his signature song "Everybody's Talkin." "He asked me what I did and I told him I sang, played guitar and harmonica," Dylan wrote in Chronicles. "He asked me to play something. After about a minute, he said I could play harmonica with him during his sets. I was ecstatic. At least it was a place to stay out of the cold. This was good."

Manny Roth (uncle of Van Halen's David Lee Roth) ran Cafe Wha? and he took a liking to Dylan, making him a regular on the afternoon shift. "You never really did get popular because nobody knew you on the outside," Dylan said in a 1984 interview. "Nobody was billed on the outside. You passed the basket. That's why I started wearing hats."

On the album jacket to Peter, Paul and Mary's 1963 LP In The Wind Dylan described his earliest days in the city. "Snow was piled up the stairs an onto the street that first winter when I laid around New York City/It was a different street then/It was a different village/Nobody had nothin/There was nothing to get/Instead of being drawn for money you were drawn for other people...It is 'f these times that I remember most sadly/For they're gone/And they'll not never come back again."

The  Brandeis concert will be officially released by Sony in the USA on Tuesday April 12, 2011 !!! Although other territories have not yet been mentioned it must be assumed that this will be a world-wide release. Strange

It did, but this presumably refers to a 'standalone' release.

I am still in shock!

Bob Dylan to join Grammys show Fuck you Gazza, Will ya?
(AFP) – 22 hours ago

LOS ANGELES — Bob Dylan will perform at the Grammys this weekend, organizers said Thursday, joining Mick Jagger Blank Frigging Stare and Barbra Streisand as headline veterans at the music industry's annual awards show.

The folk-turned-rock music legend's inclusion was announced just three days before Sunday's mega bash in Los Angeles, which brings together rising stars with seasoned chart-toppers and industry veterans.

Dylan, appearing at the Grammys for his fifth time, will perform with country-tinged Brits Mumford and Son and folk-rock band the Avett Brothers in a special salute to acoustic music, organizers said.
In other new last-minute announcements, they said rapper Dr. Dre will perform with megastar Eminem, a frontrunner for Grammys glory with nominations in 10 categories at Sunday's show.

It will be Dr. Dre's first live television performance for more than a decade.

Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and teen sensation Justin Bieber are also on the star-studded roster of performers at the three-and-a-half-hour 53rd Grammys show.

While showcasing new talent, the glittering evening will also pay tribute to past greats including "The King of Rock 'N Soul" Solomon Burke, who died last year, and ailing soul legend Aretha Franklin.
Jagger will sing in the tribute for Burke, while Christina Aguilera and Florence and the Machine singer Florence Welch will stage a "Valentine's" and "get-well" tribute for Franklin, recovering from reported cancer surgery.
