I'm a Dylan sucker...the new album is in the mail to me and I just plunked down for all 3 Bosotn Wang Theater shows.....

Based on a first listen to the shows from Berkeley (10/10) and Hollywood (last night), you're all in for a treat. Charlie Sexton's return seems to given Bob a rocket up his behind. These shows sound really good. 'Gonna Change My Way of Thinking' has barely a few lines that havent been rewritten! 'The Man In Me' is pretty different too.

Re: Charlie. It depends. If you're going to get him to talk about himself, yes, he's pretty shy. When its something else, it can be a different matter. When I met him, HE initiated the conversation, which took me by surprise somewhat!

Got a voicemail from Martha.

Posting for her as she can't get to a computer.

She got to meet and speak to half of Bob's band last night and is thrilled.
To her great surprise George Thorogood is opening for Bob tonight on her birthday!!!

Wants you to know "the shows have been spectacular. It's a WHOLE NEW BOB!!!!"

Yay. I'm so happy for our Birthday girl!!

Nice!!
Too bad Bob wasn't there, but he was probably walking around checking out houses.

Johnny Rivers opened the first LA show.
Bet he was great...

I just noticed the start time on my Jesus Lizard ticket is 9 with 2 opening bands, both venues are close to each other, I will check schedules when I get to Hollywood, maybe I can squeeze both in.

I saw George Thorogood at Guitar Center Hollywood a few months ago doing a Q&A and a 5 song full band set in a room that held about 50 people.

You beat me to it. She called me a couple of hours ago to tell me much the same thing. Since Charlie Sexton's return, Bob seems to be much more animated and in great form. What a birthday treat - 3 shows at the Hollywood Palladium (tonight being the final one) then stopping off to see two more shows in Phoenix on Saturday (the Arizona State Fair are charging just $20 a ticket!), The Joint in Vegas on Sunday and then skipping Monday's show in Salt Lake City to go home in time to see him in Denver next Wednesday. Six shows in nine days.

Oh, and she was wearing her Santa hat when talking to the band. LOL.

Thanks LJ for posting her experiences for those of us too impatient for her return home!

From the reviews I've been reading over at Pagel's page, Charlie's return is sparking a new animal in Bob (as Gazza has indicated).

Restlessly awaiting Kitchener in 24 days...

How can I find Martha? Will she be wearing a Santa hat tonight? I have no idea what the plan is but I think I am going right to Hollywood from work at 4:30. I just remembered I have a ticket waiting for me at will call for yet another event in the immediate area that might contribute a few bucks towards a more festive evening.

Just got done talking to Sway Sister, who is thoroughly enjoying celebrating her birthday with her Bob.

She says she will be in the handicap section right of the stage, Dan.  She said she'll look for someone yelling her name!

I am still not a 100% sure what's going on, just I will be in that three block area of Hollywood but the Henry Fonda Theatre should have a schedule posted early enough and I will plan around that.

Jesus Lizard went on at 11:00 so I could have made it but there wasn't much of a ticket scene other than what the scalpers had for way over face. I hung out with some friends in line then caught all the bands at the Henry Fonda Theatre. Also had some success with the third option. There is just too much to do in this town!

If you saw someone in a slightly obscene Throw Rag T Shirt working the line, that was me!

Just dug out this Lou Reed clip and realised that the show it comes from took place on this very night, Friday 16th october, 17 years ago. The Columbia Records 30th Anniversary Tribute Concert at Madison Square Garden.

Dont know whose idea it was to get Lou to cover 'Foot of Pride' but it was an inspired one.  A song I'd never given much thought to before, but which I really appreciated from this moment on. One of my favourite EVER Dylan covers. Lou was never more magnificent - cracking house band too, Booker T & The MG's, with GE Smith as guitarist and musical director.

Damn, I won't be able to see Bob this turn as I've spent all concert funds on Bruce this time around.   I also posted in HB Martha thread that Bob has a new Xmas cd coming out.  Groovy....
