Hey Starbuck, I've seen Bob 52 times and am ticketed for the 3 LA shows for my b-day which is the last day of the LA 3 pack.

Sorry about Johnny?!  No need for that.  Johnny is incredible and his shows were awesome.  I was married to him, so I am very loyal....but since he's blues'd it up I've fallen more in love with him.  Have you heard any cuts from his tour with Bob and Willie?  Have a listen....If I Die Sudden is a great tune!

Willie was absolutely wicked, pulling all the guitar work except for the night Lukas was there.  At 76 he's in great form.  Bob let Lukas join the band just for his encore...and they faced off, Lukas on his strat center stage and Bob on keys bending up and down and dancin' like he does.... which was a gas to watch.  Also, Lukas donned a SUIT for that part of the show.....which I thought was priceless.  Smiley

peace to you,
Martha Say Mellencamp

CHRISTMAS ALBUM UPDATE

A report has drifted across here suggesting that the working title for the new album is "Christmas in the Heart" and that the currently planned U.S. release date is 13 October. This date coincides with Dylan's Fall tour - to be precise with the first of three shows at the Hollywood Palladium - but whether we will get to hear Dylan singing any of these Christmas songs in concert is another matter entirely.

We assume that the album is scheduled for 12 October release in the U.K. and much of Europe but 9 October in Germany and Italy.

12th October? Thats closer to friggin' Yom Kippur than it is to Christmas. Is Bob getting confused about what religion he is again?

Good ol' Bob - releases a Christmas album the day after I get home from a summer holiday.

I'm still waiting on someone either waking me up from a bad dream or this whole thing being exposed as one mega piss-take.

Never mind October, who the hell - other than those with some kind of morbid curiousity or twisted minds - wants to listen to Bob Dylan croaking his way through someone else's Christmas songs at any time of year?

That hasnt always been the case. Dylan's sales plummeted from around 1980 and didnt recover until the late 90s, around the time his critical reputation took an upturn.

Even Bob's fanbase have a breaking point, I'd imagine - plus, can you envision Bob's dulcet tones appealing to the wider public?

Its not like I have a blanket aversion to Christmas music. I like Elvis' seasonal albums and Phil Spector's one is superb. This, however, has 'trainwreck' written all over it.

Will I buy it? Of course I will. I'm a fucking idiot.

I think it will be great, whatever songs he chooses to cover.  I listen to Xmas music every year for at least a month if not 6 weeks.  BB King's Xmas album is AWESOME.  Good music is just that no matter what the sentiment.  I am looking FORWARD to Bob's take on the season.  And YES I for one will listen to it on October 13th...on my way to the Palladium!  Ho Ho Ho! Better seen on weed! Better seen on weed! Better seen on weed!

Don't be so humbug people! Fuck you Gazza, Will ya?

Charlie Sexton To Rejoin Dylan?

According to Diane Scott of the Continental Club, Charlie Sexton has rejoined Dylan’s band, replacing Denny Freeman for Dylan's October tour. The Continental Club is a renowned live music venue in Austin, Texas and Diane Scott works as PR for the club. The club’s newsletter, August 21, 2009, appears to confirm a story that was picked up by ISIS a week ago. It seems that the news has been confirmed by Denny Freeman who apparently told Scott: “Well, at least it’s Charlie”. If the report is true, then it seems that this change in the tour band came about after Sexton joined Dylan for ten songs during the concert at The Dell Diamond in Round Rock, Texas. The current line-up is the longest running since the so called Never Ending Tour began in 1988. ISIS has been unable to confirm this story.

News of Sexton rejoining Dylan at this juncture seems strange. In March 2009, Charlie Sexton’s band the Arc Angels announced that they were reforming and that they were excited about making a new album, a DVD and a tour. Arc Angels’ band member Doyle Bramhall even left Eric Clapton to reform the band. The Arc Angels have extensive plans to tour in late 2009 and have already opened shows for Eric Clapton in Great Britain & Ireland.

What??????  Denny's out?  We just talked to his old high school sweetheart/classmate who happened to sit next to Chris at the Fresno show and she never mentioned this.  She did say it is hard to see Denny cause Bob won't let the band go and do when they want to.  LOL

There was talk towards the end of the Euro tour of a bit of a bust up. At the shows I saw in Dublin, Bob didnt even introduce the band which I thought was a bit unusual.

Freeman's good, but for me the best line-up Dylan's had on the ENTIRE Never Ending tour (if not his best since the Rolling Thunder Revue) was the one in the late 90s/early 00's which featured Charlie Sexton and Larry Campbell. He also sang some back up vocals, which has been notably missed ever since.

'The Death of Emmett Till' did eventually get an official release on vinyl. On the various artists 'Broadside Ballads Vol.6 - Broadside Reunion' LP which came out in 1972. Dylan is credited as Blind Boy Grunt', the pseudonym he used for a lot of songs that he recorded for Broadside magazine in the early 60's. My guess is that he didnt use it because those kind of songs tend to have a more limited shelf life on 'regular' albums as they become less topical with time, and Broadside's format suited them better. Also, its almost the same tune as 'House of the Risin' Sun' which he had already released on his debut album.

'Seven Curses' is on Bootleg Series Volume 2, and is a 'Times They Are A Changin' outtake.

The latter was certainly good enough to be released on the album it was recorded for. I guess the simple answer is that Dylan was pretty much pulling great songs out of every orifice at that time and he had a massive surplus of quality material.

www.hungercity.org

I cant access the site from work, but I would imagine its up there as well as on dimeadozen. Both sites tend to get pretty much every new Dylan torrent and hungercity is the easier of the two to get registered on.
