Bruce has obviously been listening to some of his old bootlegs. The most famous versions of that song to Bruce fans were the first three times he played it - in Boston in 1977. Its only ever been played one more time at a proper show - as an audible at Mountainview, Ca in May 1988. Apart from seven appearances at club shows between 1977 and 1995, he hasnt played it. Probably another 'request' song - saw a few signs for it in Milan.

Jesus wept. Thats the best fan story of the tour yet, and there's been some crazy ones in recent weeks. Talk about thinking ahead.

For the benefit of those who didnt click the link to the story :

Well, a real dream come true tonight. Entered the pit with my sign. A lot of snickering at such a "crazy" request. "He'll never play that one." "Wow, that's a long shot." I have to say....I knew the odds were long. But I actually figured if Bruce picked my sign.....I'd have to write the lyrics on the back of the sign.....since I knew he wouldn't have the lyrics in his database in the teleprompter. Sure enough, he grabbed the sign and had a great reaction to it. He continued down the catwalk and collected many more signs. It was a priceless moment when Bruce walked back up to the mike and showed the band the request. Nils, Steve all looking at the sign and laughing at it....they couldn't believe someone was crazy enough to actually write the lyrics and post the key the song was in (F). They ended up playing it in (E).....what a fucking moment.
