What a night! Bruce came on like gangbusters with "Summertime Blues" and then went totally off the rails with "10th Avenue Freeze-Out," playing like a man possessed. I think he did his slide right after that, and just hung off the mic stand, soaking up the roar from a packed-to-the-rafters Giants Stadium. And that was only the first 10 minutes. At 3 hours and 30 songs, this was a BIG show - too big for me to give it a proper review in the state I'm in. Everything about it - from the venue, to the propane truck accident on the New Jersey Turnpike (which held up at least two-thirds of the audience), to the setlist and performance - was epic.
We hadn't even heard about the propane spill until we were on the road and tuned into Sirius, but from where we live we're east of the Meadowlands and don't take the Turnpike. So not only didn't we hit traffic, but there was actually less traffic once we got out there.
I had a feeling it was going to be a special night once things got going, and when the place was finally packed and the lights went down at about 9:30, I was not disappointed. This was a show for the books. Everyone was in great form and Bruce really pulled out all the stops. I think the encores were over at about 12:45, and I was home before 2AM. I don't know how he does it. I'm dead on my feet today - dog tired. But it's the best possible kind of tired.
I'm glad you guys enjoyed the calls and texts. I enjoyed sharing it with you.
