A couple of Americans who I talked to reckoned his demeanour seems a bit different in Europe. A lot more goofing around and being relaxed with the audience (and thats saying something by Bruce's standards) and they were surprised to see how at ease he is about going almost into the crowd and letting them paw at him (I know that he lets the folks in the front row play his guitar during 'Born to run' but some of the antics at the European shows are akin to a cross between foreplay and outright molestation...)

Maybe he's just havin' more fun without the missus being around.

Well I mentioned that in Sacramento, when he played Spirit In The Night,he sat on the very front of the stage with his feet dangling in the crowd. It might have been the first song of the show, but it looked like Bruce was getting a happy ending.  Tongue

Damn right he is. In Europe he's been lying down with his legs dangling over the edge of the stage during that song. In Dublin, it was quite obvious from the video screens that some female fans were pawing at his balls. Hence his "Feels good out there" quip afterwards!

Couldn't be more pleased for ya, Gaz. Must have been nice to get a solo acoustic "For You." You got some tremendous shows this summer, kid...and it's only the end of June!  Let's go get drunk

..and now its all over apart from Mr Waits in 4 weeks.... you made a grown man cry

Was thinking that with Dublin being a 3 night stand (the only place on the whole tour to get such a run apart from Giants next month) I would get most of the songs that would be played in Europe  - I didnt expect as much variety in stadium shows as would have been the case at the US arena dates this spring. I got something like 43 different songs over the 3 nights in Dublin.

By my reckoning, we got 10 songs over the Milan and Paris shows (almost all of them being songs that werent even on the setlist but were played as requests or audibles) that I didnt see in Dublin...and I'm still frustrated at some of the songs I missed by maybe one show...

Glad you had a great time Gazza.  I don't know.  After reading your comments on the show, and watching the videos Meg posted, this maybe better than Waits.  I'll find out in Hershey.  However, I'll let Lefty do the talking afterwards.  He is much better with that than I am.  I tried my best to describe the Mr. Waits experience.

Well now their are fairly credible rumours that he may add a couple more shows in Sept....Bruce,your killing me. First of all why even think about more mid-west shows. Oh,now it comes to mind that finishing the tour with a corporate gig might not look good for the legacy. YA THINK! You won't sell. More NY shows, give me a break. Just come out west and finish the tour in LA. YOU WILL SELL!! Fuck you Gazza, Will ya?

ASBURY PARK — Madam Marie Costello, who had told fortunes since the 1930s and became famous in rock music history for her presence and predictions on the Asbury Park boardwalk, died Friday, her great-granddaughter, Sally Costello said today.

Family members were attending morning services today, Costello said.

The psychic reader and advisor was in her mid-90s, and became known worldwide from Bruce Springsteen's homage to her in his music, specifically the song, "4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)."

''She really wasn't sick. She just wasn't feeling well,'' Costello said. ""She was very, very strong until the day she died.''

Sally Costello is one of the family members who still does readings at the Madam Marie booth not far from Convention Hall on the boardwalk.

Marie Costello, herself, closed down her regular operations on the boardwalk in the mid-1990s after a dropoff in business. She continued telling fortunes in Ocean Township.

Just pulled up a pair of GA's for Richmond and Nashville, two shows that might be on my radar.
They went on sale last week...

Even if there was gonna be a September leg, Shore Fire et al. has to think it was wise to 86 it.
My guess is that Harleyfest will be the last show.

Legacy?

Egg washes off.
Eventually.

"Well the cops finally busted Madam Marie for tellin' fortunes better than they do."

When I first heard "Sandy" I was so curious about this line that I discovered that fortune telling was indeed illegal in many states in the U.S. I'm not sure about New Jersey - if it was illegal, it hasn't been for quite some time. I think it still may be illegal in New York though. Found this at: http://law.onecle.com/new-york/penal/PEN0165.35_165.35.html

§ 165.35 Fortune telling.
A  person is guilty of fortune telling when, for a fee or compensation which he directly or indirectly solicits or receives, he claims or pretends to tell fortunes, or holds himself out as being able, by claimed or pretended use of occult powers, to answer questions or give advice on personal matters or to exorcise, influence or affect evil spirits or curses; except that this section does not apply to a person who engages in the aforedescribed conduct as part of a show or exhibition solely for the purpose of entertainment or amusement.
Fortune telling is a class B misdemeanor.

R.I.P. Madam Marie

Sounds like a Nashville-St. Louis get together from my standpoint too. Still figuring it out though.Wink Way too expensive to fly into Harrisburg for the Hershey show, believe it or not,  and I'm not driving 7 hours by myself!!  We might just manage to have a little RO summit in good ole Nashville! New 4-track download mp3 available on Amazon from 15th July :

...

MP3 Songs

   1. Always A Friend (Live Version featuring Alejandro Escovedo) 4:51
   2. The Ghost Of Tom Joad (Live Version featuring Tom Morello) 8:40
   3. Turn! Turn! Turn! (Live Version featuring Roger McGuinn) 4:10
   4. 4th Of July, Asbury Park (Sandy) (Live Version featuring Danny Federici) 7:08

Info here :

http://www.amazon.com/Magic-Tour-Highlights/dp/B001C0DJ5K/ref=dm_ap_alb1?ie=UTF8...

Presumably the version of 'Sandy' is from Danny's farewell guest appearance in Indianapolis.

Apart from the McGuinn song, all of these songs have appeared on the official site on video. The version of GOTJ is the high point of the entire tour for me so far.

Here is the rest of the scoop on the Magic Tour Highlights(from backstreets):

MAGIC TOUR FOUR-TRACK LIVE EP DUE JULY 15
Special guests in the spotlight on new digital release
With official live Springsteen recordings few and far between (even though they've stepped up the game in recent years), we've always been fans of the Chimes of Freedom EP model -- no grand statement or tour summation, just getting great live music out fast. Twenty years later, we've got something of the same species: a four-track live EP with recordings from mere months ago, to be released even as the Magic tour continues.

Magic Tour Highlights, available in less than two weeks, embraces the digital era, delivering mp3s and videos online with no physical release currently planned. The EP will be available for download from all digital downloads stores, including the iTunes Store and Amazon.com.

Four songs from Bruce and the E Street Band's spring 2008 U.S. leg have been selected, each highlighting a special guest -- if you count Danny Federici's re-emergence for his only 2008 appearance, what turned out to be his final performance in Indianapolis. A "guest spot" or not, it was an emotional high point of the tour that's captured here, along with three other unique performance highs. The tracks:

    * "Always a Friend" with Alejandro Escovedo (April 14, Houston)
    * "The Ghost of Tom Joad" with Tom Morello (April 7, Anaheim)
    * "Turn! Turn! Turn!" with Roger McGuinn (April 23, Orlando)
    * "4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy)" with Danny Federici (March 20, Indianapolis)

In addition to the audio tracks, each of these will be available in accompanying live videos. The recordings were mixed by Bob Clearmountain and mastered by Bob Ludwig; Thom Zimny handled re-editing on the videos.

The artists, songwriters, and music publishers are waiving all of their royalties, and Columbia Records is donating all of its net profits, for all sales to benefit The Danny Federici Melanoma Fund. The iTunes Store is donating their first year's net profits as well. Magic Tour Highlights will be available for download beginning July 15.

I think people just throw that one out because he's one of the few major artists who, by now, havent done so.

Hope to hell he doesnt.
