OK,I realized after I posted that he hasn't done the title track and I forgot about I'm Going Down

LJ their is no wrong answer when it comes to the stones and Bruce. Their is nothing wrong with loving both bands. Some of us are just wrapped up  a little more in Bruce these days.

Ya know I can appreciate Bruce. I saw him in December and it was a good show. However, I was bored at times and I longed for The Stones. That's just me.

well, yeah because youre a Stones fan and not a Springsteen fan. So the connection isnt there. Perfectly natural. Personally speaking, Ive always liked the Stones and Bruce (plus Dylan too) all much the same, so I've a different perspective.

>See Shine A Light. Tell me THEN that the Rolling Stones aren't the GREATEST ROCK N ROLL BAND IN THE WORLD.

I'll tell you that without hesitation if youre talking about who is the better live act. SAL is not a great reflection of what a Stones show is. Its a decent enough performance which is well-filmed and which has some lovely moments.  And the ABB tour was a definite step backwards quality wise from Licks, BTB and Voodoo Lounge. The ESB have always been a better live band as far as I'm concerned. Not just now. I've always maintained that in the 30 plus years I've followed them both and collected recordings by both. Doesnt detract from how fantastic a live band the Stones are or can be, though.

>I am sorry that the STones didn't kick your asses on the last Euro tour. Perhaps if they grace the States with another few shows you should consider crossing the Pond. You will never see a show like a Stones Show at Madison Square Garden.

I'll certainly never pay $450 for a nosebleed either! I've seen lots of Stones shows that were better than the ones I saw at MSG in both 2002 and 2006 (and those shows were very good indeed).  The 02 shows last August for starters (the first 2 nights anyway) and several of the 2003 Licks shows (Wembley, Astoria, Glasgow, dublin) . New York is no more special as a crowd than anywhere else, and the last tour saw some great and some substandard performances in BOTH the US and in Europe..neither continent had a monopoly.... And a Stones crowd in this day and age bears increasingly less relation to a rock n roll audience than anything else I've seen, I'm sorry to say.

the greatest frontman of all time, isn't up for debate, LadyJane.
My thoughts, are based on here and now, 2008.
whos providing the best value stadium concert experience.

Who's in tune with their fans?
who listens and connects with their fans? throws out the setlist, and plays requests?
Who keeps ticket prices down, at a price range  that young, upcoming fans can afford, as well as fathers/mothers, who can afford to take their kids?
I saw a different demograph of concert goer last night, to the one thats present at Stones shows.
Less corporate,
less 'lets milk our fanbase dry'
less 'we're play the hits for the highest dollar.'

..and yet, wouldnt it be SO friggin' simple and honourable for the Stones to do likewise? (Ok..we maybe cant expect them to play for an hour longer than they do, but otherwise what youve stated above is so achievable..)

I still fuckin' love them despite everything and will do so until the day I drop, but you still feel that with a minor effort they could make things so much more fan friendly and better musically.

he got fined £80,000 for going over the curfew, apparently.

That prospect didnt happen at Twickenham 2 years ago unfortunately - the Stones just dropped a song and shortened the gig....LOL

Whoa. 80.000. That's a pretty hefty fine. No wonder why he didn't push it past the curfew the second night. What's the s tory with him playing that stadium anyway? From what I read, that was the first ever concert there and the neighbours were quite nervous having him play their at all and supposedly the police were threating to pull the plug on him once he passed the curfew.

There'd be a curfew on every stadium in London - any time I've been at a stadium show there (Wembley, Twickenham) its always been the case.

They're in residential areas, so there's always some local council regulations regarding noise after a certain time (ie 10.30) - we dont really have the same system/culture as is the case in many American cities where a lot of stadiums tend more and more to be built outside the cities and people drive all the way out to them (eg Giants Stadium, Anaheim etc)

Oh ok. Although nowadays the trend in the U.S. is reversing. A lot of cities (like San Francisco) try to build downtown stadiums to help revitalize the area. I remember the last time the Stones played AT&T Park in downtown SF,their was no curfew. But plenty of noise complaints...Oh well,I'm sure Bruce can afford to pay the fine. Roll Eyes

thanks Jostorm - a bit of a watershed evening, for me really.

I don't think i have the will or the finances to attend multiple Stones shows, per tour, in the future.
Last nights extravaganza, put Stadium shows into context.
They should be entertaining, the frontman should connect with his audience, listen to them, give them what they want
and deliver. And do it, without fleecing the fanbase, and give value for money.
There's not much point, imo, if a stadium show doesn't reach this criteria, and it leaves you broke, for months, after.

Last nights show was everything a Stadium concert experience should be.

Hiya, Ade!
I know what you mean. I have to say that , although the Stones will musically always remain my Nr 1 love, in the past few years my perception of their not-even-faintly-disguised disdain for us fans has greatly altered the way I feel about them. Mainly cynical. Yes, their music is the best, it always will remain that for me, but they have turned into cut-throat businessmen with extremely large incomes, and on the way to becoming mega-rich they have totally forgotten their fanbase.

Heart-of-stone posted a thread asking "how would you describe the Stones to a friend?". The usual accolades ensued. I added:

Yes, yes, yes, I second all that.....
But,  I would also add that they are the only band that force me to ask my bank manager "May I  go" ???
They are also the only band that chronically shits on me and other fans through RS.shite, and that literally sells off any aspect of "being a fan" at maximum gain, including standing at the front of the stage courtesy of Fanasylum.
They are also the only band to fuck their fans by cancelling any number of shows extremely late, just so they get all their losses recovered through insurance, while leaving us out of pocket on hotels, flights, etc.  And then they are the only band to then go and stage "Shine A Light". Then they are the only band to up the ante by allowing some fans to fill seats at the Beacon,to then get chucked out for young bimboes, because they look more photogenic than us, who have financed their superstar-lifestyles for years.

Did I forget anything?????

The thing is that it is simply refreshing to see Springsteen being so utterly different.
After the 40Licks tour and seing them in tiny clubs, any Stones stadium show has been wrecked anyway for me. But the great difference is that nowadays I simply prefer to pick one or two cities (connected to meeting up with friends), but there is no way I would spend so much money on them as I used to.

They say love is blind. True. And being constantly raped in the arse by the Stones has been a great eye opener....

Kiss my undercover ass

I have to agree with LJ. My show at Nassau was quite good but it wasn't the Stones. Much much much more excitement & whilst I agree that ABB lacked somewhat as far as setlists, the playing over here on the 1st half of the tour was superior to the ESB. Maybe I needed Patti Scialfa to play the tambourine to get me more excited. If the Stones are a 100, ESB is an 85.
