Yes, Meggypoo, here I am ......
I just got back from Manchester, and, what can I say???
Don't know what took me so long to catch Bruce Springsteen live, let's just say that losing my virginity to him was far more pleasurable and memorable (it also lasted A LOT longer!) then the last time around.
Blank Frigging Stare
Perhaps I've never wanted to go because his music has never really gotten close to my musical G-spot, but this concert is definitely amongst the best 10 I've seen in my life. What a performer! And, although he can't even hand Mick the water when it comes to fitness, he beats the shit out of him in genuine spontaneity. It is obvious that he is a total and utter sweetie, is having a real blast and truly loves and appreciates his fans, not a feeling I have ever gotten from the Stones, I have to say.... Amazing crowd, fantastic musicians, great athmosphere, can't even remember when I last had this much fun in the rain, probably when I was 6.....He really knows how to play the crowd, and the interaction is genuine, it was a bit like watching Jesus of Nazareth laying hands onto an adoring crowd.
Anyway, I loved it!
Oh, and sorry, no memorised setlist, I'll leave that to the setlist "nerds". But he played a great version of Patti Smith's "Because the night belongs to lovers", if anyone's interested??? I was hoping for "The River", cause it's my favourite song, but I'm sure he played a lot of gems instead, there were 4 or 5 I didn't even recognise, but then, until tonight I wasn't a Springsteen fan....
Oh, and Judy (from Richard and Judy on the telly) was playing the violin, that was a bit of a surprise!
you made a grown man cry

Have fun on Friday, Ade!
Night-night!

Testify, jostorm, testify!

Seeing Bruce and the ESB in the flesh does have a way of making one an instant believer...

BTW, 'Because The Night' is a Springsteen song.
He gave it to Patti Smith years ago, and he's been trying to steal it back ever since.  Wink

Ah, there's the setlist!
The thing with 6 year-old Brad was quite sweet, he was hoisted onto his dad's shoulder, and stood in the FOS section about 3 meters behind the front, and was wearing a pair of those red kiddies's earphones (like the ones that careful parents make their children wear, they look like Bose noise excluders), smiling and waving all excited, and Bruce changed the lyrics of the song , adding an extra verse "this is the first time I'm at a rock concert, and my Dad made me wear this pair of enormous earphones".... It was really funny...Also, he actually took requests and delivered,  talking of spontaneity! (or of actually still being capable of playing your own back-catalogue!)I finally understand why people go on and on about him...

Anyway, gotta go to sleep now, otherwise I'll kill everything I touch tomorrow, and that wouldn't be so good.
Cool

Glad you enjoyed your first Bruce show, Jo! He really is quite something - one of the most exciting performers I've ever seen.  As for "Because The Night," it was actually written by both Smith and Springsteen while the two respective bands were recording albums in the same studio. Bruce's band does quite a job on it live, with Nils spinning like a dervish during his guitar solo. There's a bit about it here on Wiki if you're interested:

Well, I haven't come down yet, which is a feeling I haven't had for a while.
You'll be happy to hear I  postponed two ops, I just felt fuzzy, almost jet-lagged today, good job I don't fly 747s for a living...

I forgot to add that at the concert I was actually stone-sober, I don't drink alcohol at all, and as GTRM can testify, I ALWAYS say "no!" to drugs, so my impression wasn't tainted by any substances whatsoever! Yep, he's just unbelievably amazing!

Thanks for readjusting reality for me, leftshoeshuffle and GTRM, it's funny, for thirty years "Because the Night" just epitomised Patti Smith for me...and I loved Bruce's version!

One last comment, am I the only one who really gets reminded of Robert de Niro when you see Bruce's facial expressions, especially when he smiles with an open mouth??? I think it's the underbite that does it . And he has a genuine sense of humour, I was thinking yesterday while he was playing the fool and using the microphone stand like a dancing pole, that he is real, it suddenly occured to me how false and poserish and primadonnaish Mick is in contrast.

Have an absolute blast tomorrow, Ade, and thanks for the link to IORR.

Nah.. It ain't just you, Jo.  Much as I do love Mick Jagger and all his affectedness, I love Bruce all the more because what ya see is what ya get..and it is all totally real.  And I love a man who can make a mistake, laugh about it, and start all over without skipping a beat.  One who will take a request song out of the audience and play it even if the band hasn't practiced it in years.  One who will take a sip of a beer from a fan standing in front..That be REAL!!

Sorry you had to skip your surgery today... Wink Grin

Hey Joey, where are you going with that gun in your hand???
No, seriously, have you been weeding a lot today, Dear??? What is the significance of the Black Power logo??? And who's black anyway?? Bruce or Patti??? Or me??? I do not get it, transatlantic humour translation kindly requested, over and out....

I'm really jealous of Ade now, but in a very good sort of way!
Sure he's having a blast...

Meggy: is there really a Bruce Springsteen setlist-whinging-thread??? How funny! I thought we were the only bunch of whingers in cyberspace...Surely,I must be the only person who never goes anywhere else in cyberspace but here...
