You could just go to Jazz Fest.

It's only about two miles east of the Mississippi.  Fuck you Gazza, Will ya?

I'm glad there will be more NJ/Philly dates in September since I missed the last group of shows, all were completely sold out and my concert money is very low these days. I was really hoping for Labor Day weekend in Atlantic City, but I see Philly got the show instead which is surprising since Governor Christie was on TV begging Bruce to headline at the new REVEL Casino. That would of been a 5000 seat venue compared to a 75,000 seat venue, you do the math! Bruce is cashing in big time!

Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band
The Palace of Auburn Hills
Auburn Hills, MI
April 12, 2012

Audio Technica AT-853 Cardioids > Battery Box > Edirol R-09 > Adobe Audition > Flac frontend

Recorded dead center of the main GA area

"This is Detroit"

Disc One
1. Intro
2. We Take Care of Our Own
3. Wrecking Ball
4. Badlands
5. Death to My Hometown
6. My City of Ruins
7. E Street Shuffle
8. Candy's Room
9. Jack of All Trades
10. Trapped
11. Youngstown
12. She's the One

Disc Two
1. Waitin' on a Sunny Day
2. The Promised Land
3. Apollo Medley
4. Incident on 57th Street
5. American Skin (41 Shots)
6. Because the Night
7. The Rising
8. We Are Alive
9. Land of Hope and Dreams

Disc Three
1. Thunder Road
2. Rocky Ground (with Michelle Moore)
3. Out in the Street
4. Born to Run
5. Dancing in the Dark
6. Tenth Avenue Freeze-out

I screwed up and arrived at the venue too late to participate in the lottery. If I'd gotten into the pit I wouldn't have recorded so in a sense my loss is your gain.

This recording has a bit more crowd noise in it than I would have liked. I was dead center on the floor amongst a group of twenty-somethings and they were really into it so it is what it is. I always like seeing the next generation of fans at these shows and this recording conveys some of the excitement of being in the middle of an enthusiastic crowd.

Off to Cleveland tomorrow. I questioned my sanity at first when I decided to go to 4 shows on this opening leg. But considering how good the shows and the setlist's have been so far. Not to mention the dicey nature of tour scheduling from Springsteen inc. I don't think I'll have any regrets. BRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCE!!!!! Fuck you Gazza, Will ya? Fuck you Gazza, Will ya? tell that to the 70,000 who wouldnt be able to get tickets just because he chose to indulge a politician instead of perform to his fans....    Roll Eyes

'Cashing in' is when you play a stadium and charge someone $500 for a side view of a video screen..

Casinos - very rock 'n' roll!

Bruce is still cashing in even at $115-165/ticket, all the shows have sold out. He's hot! I'm glad he isnt charging more, even at the current "low" price not everyone can afford to go.

Hardly the same ballpark in terms of cashing-in - especially when he's playing for over 3 hours a night,

Where are the tickets $165 - 115? Is that for the stadium shows in the autumn?

Just did a quick random search on TM there, and the Los Angeles and Newark shows next week are $98 and $68. Not exactly through the roof price-wise.

Dont see any prices listed for the August/September leg.

Incidentally, I saw this on TM - should we contact our lawyers?

The April 20-21 weekend looks pretty interesting!

Bruce is the last guy anyone should accuse of "cashing in," at least by the standards of A-list rock stars. Ironically, though, I think it would be better for his fans if he did cash in somewhat. The reality is, the price that he does charge is far outpaced by the actual market value of his tickets. The money he leaves on the table ends up in the pockets of ticket brokers in the wake of legendary on-sale snafus.

My main gripe with Bruce re: tickets is that in his eagerness to treat all fans equally he's never done enough to prioritize his most loyal fanbase with things like fan club allocations, pre-sales etc.

Its almost like an opposite end of the spectrum from the Stones (ie getting you to pay $100 for a presale which usually gives you no better tickets than you can get on a venue presale for nothing) - but it's still quite unsatisfying to see so many 'hot' tickets snapped up by secondary markets. I know that he and Landau have taken some steps over the years to battle it, but its never been diehard-friendly enough really.

Back from Cleveland with my Bruce High and sad that I am not going to see him again...Just might have to try and get Wrigley tickets!

I can't explain it, but this was the best Bruce show I've ever seen and I've seen a few (albeit, not as many as Gazza-LOL) and I had declared that they were the best I'd ever seen.  The E Street horns and the E Street choir add a dimension that just puts it over the top.   I liked Seeger Sessions, but this E Street transformation makes those concerts seem like they were training wheels for Bruce. No other entertainer I've experienced, can bring me to tears and then make me laugh or smile in the same song.  And Bruce did this several times last night.  The intensity and energy, the fun that the band is obviously having, the vastly improved sound, the wonderful music...It was absolutely sublime.  Yes I left Quickens without a voice, with a little less hearing, with sore feet and back, with an emotional high, and with an overpowering need for another show.

Christ - that's saying quite something, as you must have seen him about 15-20 times (I've seen 29 - but then again, I started back in 1981...)

I'd be pretty confident you'll get arena shows near you in the autumn though - AND a third run of US shows in early 2013.

Steve Van Zandt alluded to a 15-month tour. If so, that would take it up to June 2013.

I know there's been talk of an Aussie leg too, but that wouldnt take more than a couple of weeks.  I think there'll be quite a few more US shows as well as a return visit to Europe next year.

I was in Cleveland last night as well. Great setlist. Never seen the band this hot this early.Even with the added players, the core band was still on fire, The whilring dervish that is Nils Lofgren was in fine form on an excellent Youngstown.Racing was an absolute delight. My 15th show. I'd put in the top 5.Best part,I got three more to go and I'm already dying to see more.

Remembering Bruce Springsteen's big moment at the 2006 New Orleans Jazz Fest

 By Keith Spera, The Times-Picayune

As I joined many thousands of fellow New Orleanians and visitors on the New Orleans Jazz Fest's Acura Stage field late on the afternoon of April 30, 2006, anticipation ran high. We all knew that Bruce Springsteen, aided by his new Seeger Sessions Band, would likely do something special at the first Jazz Fest since Hurricane Katrina's devastation only eight months earlier.

...
David Grunfeld / Times-Picayune archive

At Jazz Fest 2006, thousands of fans gathered around the Acura Stage to hear Bruce Springsteen.
But we had no idea. I am not alone in ranking that show as quite likely the best, and certainly most emotional, musical experience of my life. And given my profession, I've seen a lot of concerts.

In preparation for Springsteen's return to the Fair Grounds on Sunday, this time with the E Street Band, it's worth looking back at his 2006 concert for the ages. What follows is the review I wrote in 2006, immediately following that show. Share your own memories in the comments below, or write a letter directly to The Boss.

-

As Bruce Springsteen led his sprawling Seeger Sessions Band onto the Acura Stage on Sunday, he confessed to a hint of trepidation. "It's our first gig, " he said. "Let's hope it goes well."

Moments later, he encountered a "technical problem" with his pants. Grinning, the embarrassed Boss turned his back to the vast audience and made the necessary adjustments. "It's not just a new band, " he later explained, "but a new belt."

That was his first, and final, glitch. For two hours, Springsteen and his glorious Seeger Sessions ensemble -- six horns, a banjo, accordion, pedal steel, fiddles, piano -- rendered vintage folk and protest songs stirringly alive and relevant in a tour de force performance. Like few others in popular music could, he crafted a show that spoke eloquently to the city's struggles, both welcome distraction and poignant reminder.

The opening "O Mary Don't You Weep" set the tone. Springsteen led, then the full ensemble swung in behind him. A muted trumpet, a trombone and a saloon piano all took solos. Springsteen, as usual, heaved himself into the material at hand. The gravel in his voice stamped a ragged glory on "John Henry" over banjos and accordion. "Old Dan Tucker" and "Open All Night" were each a hoot. Big horn swells lit up a gritty "Jesse James."

The best folk songs transcend time. In the old Irish anti-war ballad "Mrs. McGrath, " a cannonball claims her son's "two fine legs"; it could just as easily have been an improvised explosive device.

Certain lyrics resonated more directly for locals: "There'll be better times by and by." "God gave Noah a rainbow sign, no more water, but fire next time." "The bank holds my mortgage and they want to take my house away." "The only thing we did right was the day we started to fight." And it was easy to imagine "Louisiana" swapped into the lyrics to "My Oklahoma Home, " which was "blown away" in a natural disaster.

In his most overtly political statement, Springsteen recalled his visit the previous afternoon to the 9th Ward. "I saw some sights I never thought I'd see in an American city, " he said. "The criminal ineptitude makes you furious." In response, he adapted Blind Alfred Reed's "How Can a Poor Man Stand Such Times and Live" with new lyrics dedicated to "President Bystander": "My old school pals had some high times there/What happened to you folks is too bad, " he sang, mocking President Bush's comments in the early days after Hurricane Katrina.

The set's watershed moment, literally, was "My City of Ruins." Originally written for his adopted hometown of Asbury Park, N.J., on Sunday he dedicated it to New Orleans. To a hushed audience, Springsteen closed his eyes and began: "There's a blood red circle on the cold dark ground, and the rain is falling down/The church door's blown open, I can hear the organ's sound, but the congregation's gone . . . the boarded-up windows, the hustlers and the thieves, while my brother's down on his knees . . . now tell me how do I began again? My city of ruins. . ." And then the refrain: "Come on, rise up! Rise up!" Thousands lifted their hands to the sky. I wept, my wife wept. And we were not alone.
Just as quickly, Springsteen kicked back into good-time gear with "Buffalo Gals" and a zydeco rubboard and accordion reimagining of "You Can Look (But You Better Not Touch), " from his 1980 album, "The River." A tuba, improbably enough, was the final instrument onstage before the encore at a Springsteen show.

Then he presented one last gift. A hundred bands in New Orleans, Springsteen said, could play this last song better than he. But he had come across two lesser-known verses that he thought might be appropriate. With that, he unspooled "When the Saints Go Marching In, " not as a boisterous, high-kicking second-line, but as an acoustic prayer, delivered in a desperate hour. Face clenched, he sought the promised land: "Now some say this world of trouble is the only world we'll ever see/But I'm waiting for that moment when the new world is revealed."

No other artist could have spoken to, and for, the city of New Orleans at this most important of Jazzfests more purposefully, more passionately and more effectively than Bruce Springsteen and the Seeger Sessions Band.

That's actually a short show for Bruce. But you'll enjoy it EG. I'd go,but I'm covering all three California shows this week. That's enough for me....For now. Fuck you Gazza, Will ya?

Meg, that sounds orgasmic! I'll have to get to one of these shows for sure!   Tongue

Actually I'm surprised there isnt something big "missing" ~ Clarence! Does his replacement (nephew?) sound as good?
