Not familiar with this Stan Goldstein, SCL - who is he?

If true, then thats two successive posts on this thread which have made me aroused.

Interesting choice of words there - "a tour with E Street Band members ". Maybe a sort of E Street Band/Sessions band hybrid?

* Edit - just read on Greasy lake, that Mr Goldstein is a respected NJ music journalist who seems to have a good inside track on all things Bruce.

I see the whining about any Bruce activity that doesnt have the ESB all over it has started already. Peasants.

then why not say 'with the E Street Band' ?

After all, you wouldnt read speculation on a Stones tour next year as 'Mick Jagger will tour with Rolling Stones band members'.

Its a strange choice of words.

No matter what, it's all good.

Bruce Springsteen Releases New Sci-Fi Concept Album About Struggles Of Poor Miners Working On Mars
September 14, 2011 | ISSUE 47•37

RUMSON, NJ—After more than a year of writing and recording, Bruce Springsteen released his 18th studio album Tuesday, a concept record titled Red Dust that explores the everyday lives and struggles of immigrant workers scraping by in the 23rd-century carbonate mines on Mars.

...

According to the 61-year-old songwriter, the new tracks depict rugged Martian colonists as they come to question what's happened to their lives, finding themselves saddled with unpayable debts and hard-pressed to put food on the table for their embryonically harvested juvenile-clones.

"These are songs about growing up on a tough planet," said Springsteen, telling reporters that when the idea of humans and aliens working side by side in an extraterrestrial labor colony first occurred to him, he immediately knew he "had to tell their story." "The Martians aren't trying to run away from their lives or make excuses. They're proud of what they do and where they're from, even if the high-impact ion-compression carbonate mining industry isn't what it used to be."

Springsteen says the album taps into the real feelings of blue-collar Martians, humans, and humanoids alike.
"I try to write about universal feelings and desires," Springsteen continued. "There's tragedy, grief, redemption. But there's also nostalgia for one's carefree younger days of racing souped-up hyper-thrust cruisers through the Valles Marineris canyon, and for nights spent chasing Martian girls along the rusting boardwalks of a crater-side spaceport."

Springsteen explained that in addition to its stark, poignant portrait of a decaying futuristic mining colony, the album serves as a cautionary tale about the extinction of the galactic middle-class and functions, in itself, as a protest against the policies of a corrupt Planetary Federation that willfully neglects its poorest and neediest organisms.

The album's first single, a swaggering radio-ready stadium anthem called "Dead Man's Home," tells the tale of a construction worker drafted to fight in an unjust interstellar war, only to return disillusioned to his Martian hometown, where the ground is too frozen to bury the remains of friends killed by a burst of plasma shrapnel.

Guitarist Steven Van Zandt said that while E Street Band members had reservations about the album's concept, they were impressed with Springsteen's earnestness when he explained how the miners had moved to the colony seeking a good, honest living and then had nowhere to turn once the Martian economy failed.

"Frankly, we weren't really sure what he was talking about," said Van Zandt, noting he still has no clue what the song "Icecap Cadillac" is trying to say. "But he seemed really passionate about it, and we'd already been through 16 straight hours of rehearsal, so eventually we just went along with it."

Thus far, the album has earned mixed reviews. While many critics have expressed deep bemusement at Springsteen's sharp departure from realism, others, such as Rolling Stone editor David Fricke, have hailed the effort as "another well-executed and stirring tribute to working-class heroes by the Boss."

"It's a triumphant return to Springsteen's populist roots—when you hear these tales of yearning space loners on the economically ravaged olivine plains, there's an instant emotional connection," said Fricke, adding that Red Dust was arguably Springsteen's finest work since 1987's Tunnel Of Love. "You can't help but feel the desperation of hard-drinking Crazy Davey sitting at the space-dock bar in 'Solid Ground,' or the communal sense of resolve to rise up after a terrorist asteroid attack in 'Martian Shoulders.'"

"It's vintage Bruce, really," Fricke continued. "He hits you with a driving heartland rocker about getting your first ion-boring union card, and then turns around and delivers a stirring elegy to a Venusian migrant who was photon-blasted 41 times by merciless police droids. These are really powerful images that stick with you."

Praising the album's sparse, harmonica- laden title track, Fricke cited the acoustic number's bleak chorus as the record's finest expression of the battered miners' resilience:

We drill our way through thick basalt

Beneath a distant sun.

The two moons rise and nothing's left

But red dust in our lungs.

The album is currently available for purchase in stores and online, with 10 percent of all proceeds going to the Red Dust Fund to help poor Martian miners should they ever come into existence.

Ok,I have a serious question. With strong rumours about both Bruce and the Stones touring next year. When was the last time,if ever they both toured at the same time? If they do both tour at about the same time next year,do you think one might start in Europe. Like Bruce maybe? Either way,if it happens my credit cards are gonna get a workout. Do you mean both touring in the same continent at the same time?

Late 2005.

Bruce's final leg of the Devils & Dust tour was in the US at the same time as the Stones opened the Bigger bang tour.

They both toured in Europe and North America in '06 but not at the same time.

In 2007 the Stones toured Europe June-August and Bruce's 'Magic' tour opened in the US in October.

The E-Street Band's 'Rising Tour' started in the US in August 2002 and pretty much ran through the rest of the year at around the same time as the first US leg of the Licks tour which started in early September. Both tours picked up again in early 2003.

I seem to remember that Mick and Bruce had dinner together at the Four Seasons in Toronto. Bruce was playing there, and the Stones were rehearsing.

Presumably that was during the Bigger Bang rehearsals.

Bruce played Toronto 14th July 2005. The Stones started rehearsing in the city on the same day.

Yup, it was '05. Can't find any record of it on Google, but I distinctly remember reading a squib about it.

Van Zandt: E-Street Band to decide future soon
By John Carucci
Associated Press / September 23, 2011

NEW YORK—Steve Van Zandt says Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band will get together over the next couple of weeks to discuss how the band will proceed without Clarence Clemons. The saxophonist died in June following complications from a stroke.

Van Zandt said the band, which has periodically toured and recorded with Springsteen since 1972, will never be the same without Clemons. But then he added it wasn't the same after keyboard player Danny Federici died in 2008.

Clemons provided the band with its trademark horn sound apparent on such hits as "Blinded By the Light," "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out," and "Jungleland."

"That's a void we will never replace," Van Zandt said.

But the E-Street band guitarist feels they will still play music until the end because he says: "That's what we do."

Van Zandt made the comments while attending "Ocean's Kingdom," in New York, a new ballet with music by Paul McCartney.

More Springsteen tour speculation from BTX:
This past weekend, my friend was doing maintenance at the Live Nation headquarters in NYC, where I interned last summer...
He was in one of the offices of the building (I won't say which, and who's) and came across an email that was printed out the desk, with the subject reading: "Springsteen Summer 2012 Venues"
My friend didn't have the chance to read the entire email, as his job would've been at risk if he got caught. However he was able to notice some of the names of the venues on the list (he was texting me as he read the names on the list): 1800 Ask Gary (Tampa), Comcast Centre (Mansfield, MA), Riverbend Music Center (Cincinnati), Verizon Wireless Amphitheater (St. Louis), Bradley Center (Milwaukee), and United Center (Chicago).

That is by some distance, the worst name for a venue I've ever heard of.

The only one that comes close to that is the Wankdorf Stadium in Bern, Switzerland.

WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (AP) — A New Jersey university will be the new home for nearly 15,000 documents associated with Bruce Springsteen.

Books, concert programs, magazines and newspaper articles formerly kept at the Asbury Park Public Library will be moved to Monmouth University in West Long Branch on Nov. 1.

The material has outgrown the library, which offered viewing by appointment only.

The university's Bruce Springsteen Special Collection will be accessible to anyone and have enough space for it to grow to include recordings, film footage and other documents.

Monmouth University President Paul Gaffney II says the school's music industry students will benefit greatly from having access to the documents.

The university is about five miles from Asbury Park, where Springsteen performed in his early days.
