Not to start another Bruce vs The Stones argument. But I was thinking about this last night after showing a friend of mine the Bruce clips from Jimmy Fallon the other night. Pretty good pull for Fallon to get both the Stones and Bruce on his show. Both promoting remaster projects. Both doing comedy bits. One significant difference. Bruce actually played live, You rock!

On Tuesday, December 7, Bruce will be convening the E Street Band on the Jersey Shore to play tracks from The Promise for a special future webcast. And unlike the Darkness '09 film, they don't want to play to nobody... so we've got the chance to send a small number of fans to be extras for the filming.

Bear in mind, this won't be a concert, exactly -- it's a shoot, with all the stops and starts that usually entails. And it's likely gonna be a cold, windy December afternoon, not in the cozy confines of previous Shore venues like the Paramount Theatre or Convention Hall. But it'll also be a unique opportunity to see Bruce and the Band in action and up close, working up performance debuts of songs from The Promise, and to be part of the small crowd in an intimate space when they capture it on film.

We'll be selecting a handful of fans by random drawing to be part of the audience, each able to bring one guest. To enter the drawing, all you need to do is send us an email (see details below). Please only enter IF:

· You're able to get yourself and your guest to the Jersey Shore on Tuesday, December 7, in the mid-afternoon.

· You're sure you can be there -- we want to get as many fans in as possible and may not be able to adjust for no-shows.

· You can make it on short notice -- all winners may not be notified until late Monday evening.

· You can stand the weather!

If that's you and you'd like to enter for a chance to be there, please send an email to [email protected] with the following information.

For the subject line, type the name of the musician (a longtime Jackson Browne associate) who played violin on The Promise's version of "Racing in the Street."

In the body of the email, include your name and address (as it appears on your picture ID), as well as your cell phone (or other contact number) and preferred email address, for any and all notifications about Tuesday.

Entries must be received by Sunday, December 5, at 2 p.m. ET to be eligible for the drawing. One entry per email address, please. Those selected to attend (plus one guest) will be contacted by email as soon as possible (but again, it could be up to Monday night) with full details. We'll post a notice on the News page to let you know when all notifications have gone out.

Good luck, we'll hope to see you there!

Quick report from today's Asbury Park video shoot
by Stan on Dec 07, 2010 4:01 pm

I hung out for most of this afternoon at Bruce's video shoot at the carousel house at the Casino in Asbury Park.
I wasn't one of the lucky ones to get in, but you could hear very well from outside the Casino.
This was once again, the 1978 version of the E Street Band, no Nils, Soozie or Patti, but David Lindley was there to play violin as well as a horn section.
Charlie Giordano was on the organ.
The various members of the E Street Band arrived one-by-one, Clarence coming in his usual stretch limo.
Bruce was the last to arrive, at 1:10 p.m.
As he exited his SUV, he came over to where the fans were standing and went down the line and said hello to everyone and shook hands.
He did sign one autograph at the end.

A long soundcheck started, It eneded at 4 p.m.
Among the songs played:

1. Racing In the Street (the 1978 version from The Promise)
2. Come on (Let's Go Tonight)
3. Gotta Get That Feeling
4. One Way Street
5. Outside Looking In
6. The Brokenhearted
7. Candy's Boy
8. Save My Love
9. Ain't Good Enough For you
10. Talk to Me
We could hear Bruce goofing around during the middle of the song.
11. Blue Christmas
12. The Promise

Some of the songs they worked on a couple of time.

The contest winners and invited guests were let in after 3 p.m.

The actual taping of the webcast began about 4:35 p.m.
I had to leave to go to work but thanks to a friend for texting me the songs being played.
He said about 50 people were still outside in the cold, It was about 30 degrees but the windchill was brutal.

Songs played in front of the audience for the taping (order may not be correct):

1. Racing In the Street (1978 version) (played twice);
2. Gotta Get That Feeling
3. Outside Looking In
4. One Way Street
5. Come On (Let's Go Tonight).
6. Save My Love (played three times)
7. The Brokenhearted (played a few times)
8. Ain't Good Enough for You
9. The Promise
10. Talk To Me
11. Blue Christmas

Over just before 8 p.m.

There was an unofficial dropline list, which had close to 125 names on it, but no one from that list did get in.
There was a very limited amount of people inside the Casino. Vini "Maddog" Lopez was seen going in also.

Ah, sometimes I wish I was closer to Asbury Park.  Made
the trip once, went to Seeger Sessions show, then next
day Good Morning America with Bruce.  What a place, if
the boardwalk could talk....

Wow that sounds really cool. The Carousel house is just an enclosed Merry-Go-round with pretty painted horses that kids ride on, its not a concert hall at all, thats for sure! It's an indoor playground for kids! Bruce is going nostalgia, this place has been there forever!

Stunning stuff, and a wonderful early Christmas present to the fans from Santa Bruce.

He somehow manages to be artist and live performer of the year despite not releasing new material or going on the road....

Any word on whether the rest will be released? Don't tell me he recorded the entire thing and is only releasing a half hour of it?

I've heard nothing about a release or even a longer broadcast. Its the standard for these kind of 'special' shows that what gets broadcast is only an edit of what was filmed - the 1992 'Plugged' MTV special, 'Live in NYC' spring to mind.

It's a bit odd that the only two songs which were attempted three times - Save My Love and The Brokenhearted - didnt get aired at all.

Thanks Meggy! I rode the painted horses on that Carosel every summer when I was a kid. The building was recently restored and the horses repainted beautifully. Wow. Bruce is fabulous! Some fvcking great harmonic, mind blowing music. Love it! Really great videos!

If the reported soundcheck is anything to go by, it would appear that Bruce will be playing at the Light of Day benefit at the Paramount in Asbury Park later this evening...

Wow,a good old fashioned set list watch:
With Jesse Malin: Broken Radio

With Willie Nile: Heaven Help the Lonely

Solo Acoustic:
1. Your Own Worst Enemy
2. This Hard Land

(Assuming now with Joe G)
3. Atlantic City
4. Never Be Enough Time
5. Adam Raised a Cain
6. One Way Street
7. "I'm Not Sleeping"??? Anyone have any idea?
8. Save My Love
9. Talking to the King
10. Pink Cadillac w/Danny Clinch on harmonica
11. Darkness on the Edge of Town
12. "The Promised Land." The place is going insane.
13. Light Of Day
14. "Twist And Shout" finale with all the night's performers. Even Big Pussy.
15. "Thunder Road" all audience sing along.

very good version of 'Atlantic City' but that version of 'One Way Street' is just off the radar-stunning. That solo at the end is fucking wonderful.  Right now I'd kill for a few shows that featured JUST the 'Darkness'/'Promise' material.
