Listened to the NPR stream of The Promise yesterday for the first time. Not bad. Doesn't jump out at me as spectacular on first listen. But I do like the reworked Racing in the Street. Which I was hesitant about because that's always been one of my favorite Bruce songs. I also liked Candy's Boy. You don't hear Bruce do reggae very often and kind of amazing how that morphed into Candy's Room. I also liked Ain't Good Enough For You. Probably my favorite among the previous unreleased songs.

Great stuff. Bruce opened solo with "A Good Man's Hard to Find", "For You" (excellent!), and "This Hard Land". He mostly let Joe take the spotlight from there. Although, "Atlantic City", "Darkness on the Edge of Town", "Adam Raised a Cain", "Promised Land", and "Fire" were performed. I think I covered them all. I loved "East Carson Street" and "Pumping Iron Sweating Steel" (a Pittsburgh anthem). The Bruce and Joe encore sucked musically, but it was fun ("la Bamba" "Twist and Shout"). Bruce then close the show out solo with a stunning version of "Thunder Road!" I'll post more on Saturday after the second show.
