Was a great night(and morning as I drove home after) and a great show!  Cleveland crowd was totally into it, which always makes it fun.  Bruce and the band are performing on an entirely different level since I last saw them this tour and they were good then.  Everyone playing with lots of intensity-especially Bruce, who has to be absolutely drained when he leaves the stage. It is sort of sad seeing them and knowing this might be the last of the band as we know it.  Feelings I had reminded me of the last London shows with the Stones.  Of course anyone here knows my highlights were: 1) hearing Born to Run from start to finish 2) finally hearing "Backstreets," 3) a great "Higher and Higher"- Yes, I assisted Bruce, Susie, and Curtis up the step to the mid stage platform  Wink 4) and the absolute jaw dropping, goosebump producing moment was "Back in You Arms"

I don't know if the Detroit people will match last nights crowd, but I do know that Bruce and the E Street Band will do all in their power to make it an enjoyable night.  Friday will be a little special, as I am taking my son and girlfriend (both Bruce Virgins) and we will make the "long" attempt to get up close and personal with Bruce for the last time (for only a short while -I hope).

P.S. I didn't take my camera tonight, like a dummy.  But how do you take pictures, make eye contact with Bruce, and assist him up to the stage at the same time??!! Wink Grin

Oh and I forgot...

I could have sworn the guitar Bruce used for Born to Run was the one I saw hanging in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame a few hours earlier!!??

The money spent to see that exhibit- oh and the Stones too of course- was well worth it. I could have spent hours reading the notebooks and steno pads full of Bruce's lyrics....

Also shocked that NONE of you freaks are coming to Buffalo.

I may not be a Springsteen fan, but hell, I'd be happy to set you up here.

OK.. It is official..

post Bruce depression has set in.

I guess all we can hope for is that the Stones come thru or that Bruce gets bored and sets out on his own soon..

Yes Bruce goofed up and once he realized it- after Stevie told him...
He spent the whole night proving himself to Detroit. "Working on the Highway",  a really rocking "Johnny 99", "Because the Night"-with Bruce doing the solo, and the requests Leftie mentioned.  Oh and not to forget- my very first" BITUSA"!!!  My Bruce Virgins really enjoyed the show and Lisa this morning was able to say she felt "revived" even though her feet hurt.  On the other hand my son stayed up til dawn with Scotch and Poker, so I have no idea how he feels!. Neither one could believe the process that one must go thru to get into the PIT.
A great night.. Fuck you Gazza, Will ya?

now back to my melancholy...

Meggy,

Don't be sad.  Come to Balmore, jack.  I think Balmore First Mariner Arena is going to be very very special.   I hope to get Ramrod.

'Wreck on The Highway' ?? If only!

Thanks for the calls and voicemail messages. Told ya he'd do 'Ramblin Gamblin' Man' !!

Know how you feel about the 'depression'. I've had mine for four months. The multi-night stands at Giants and Philly were bad enough, but when he announced that the two-nighter at MSG last weekend would feature WIESS and The River in full, that made it worse!!

I can't see him taking a long break though - even though he's been touring and recording pretty much solidly now for FIVE years. That amount of activity would suggest he's almost in Dylan NET mode.  Plus he's long past the writer's block problem he had 15-20 years ago.

I think we'll get a solo album and tour next. He mentioned a couple of years back in an interview in Dublin that he had a lot of songs written that would suit that style.  Looks like this will be the last E-Street Band tour as we know them - I think he'll tour with them again, but there'll be a few line-up changes from the one we've been used to.

I've been dealing fairly well with my PSD (post springsteen depresion). It took about 2 months after I got back from Mansfield. But I'm almost fine now. Oh no! not you again

Gazza, what do you mean, the last of the E Street Band as we know it? What lineup changes do you see happening?

I am not as "knowing" as Sir Gazza but I see either a solo tour ala D and D, or a slightly reinvented EStreet/Sessions band myself.  It is obvious the horns sound great with Springsteen compositions and I really enjoyed Curt Ramm's role (as well as and all the horns at MSG) in the shows I've seen and heard recently.  Cindy and Curtis add a lot to the vocals, so I think they will stay around, as well as Roy, Charlie, and maybe Soozie. It is clear that Clarence needs and wants a break.  Max has his Conan responsibilities, Stevie and Nils probably just need a long break and time for their own projects.  Bruce enjoys sharing the stage with many people and he seems to be energized by their contributions.  So I guess my hope is a reinvented band with new Bruce material.

And thank god Bruce seems to be on the Dylan NET mode..

I'll take him any way he wants to perform, even though I would miss EStreet without Clarence, Nils, or Stevie

Clarence is the only real question mark.
He's mentioned retirement in a couple of interviews.

The others will make themselves available should they get the call.

I think Bruce will take a break to decompress and plot his next move.

Figure that by next fall he'll be ready and rarin' to go...

Thats basically what I was alluding to. In fact he said it outright ("I am retiring") in an interview with AP just a few days ago. I was pretty taken aback to hear him say it without leaving anything open to interpretation other than the timescale (he suggested it would happen if his wife has a child).

I think there'll maybe be a few tweaks to the line up in future years to reflect band members wanting to do other things. A Clarence-less ESB maybe wouldnt see him directly replaced (how CAN you replace such an iconic part of the band?), but maybe they'd have a few horn players instead as they've had in recent shows. We've already had one replacement during the last couple of years with Danny dying and being replaced (on the road at least although not 'officially' as a band member) by Charlie Giordano and Max's Tv commitments seeing his son Jay being brought off the bench for a few appearances. Both of them have done outstandingly well, considering the big boots they had to fill, and at short notice - although I do think that in the long term Max will stay in the band and work around his TV schedule as he did this year.

I mainly see it as a bigger band than before, with maybe more crossover from the Sessions Band to the E-Street Band. The use of Cindy Mizelle and Curtis King on this tour and a bigger role for Soozie Tyrell (who has played more shows with Bruce in this decade than ANY other musician) being perhaps an indicator that Bruce himself sees it that way.

I agree that most of the band will make themselves available should the occasion arrive. I dont see any problem with Steve or Nils doing so, for sure.

Well thanks Gazza,Meg and Lefty for the info.(the unholy trinity of Springsteen experts Wink Pretty much what has been speculated. ALthough I kind of wondered about Nils. I love his playing, but it seems like Stevie has kind of had a rejuvenation on this leg of the tour and Nils has kind of been featured less. But the more guitars the better right. You rock!
